  5. Adam Cole is being wasted in ROH.

  6. You can't come up with the Stump Puller story without being at least a little bit fun.

Now, Jeff Amdur. THAT was a guy without a sense of humor.

  7. Only the second time where I voted for 5 songs

    ReplyDelete
  8. First time I only voted for 1 song. And that was Mr Big, which barely even counts.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes but still really young, as he his only 25 so might as well do all you can before going to the WWE

    ReplyDelete
  10. He is probably better off waiting a couple of years and hoping VKM is out to pasture before hopping over.

Shawn is the chosen one...by our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Just ask him.

  13. That Barenaked Ladies song is one of my least favorite songs of all of the times.

For some reason, JR screaming TEARDROP SUPLEX! TEARDROP SUPLEX! TEARDROP SUPLEX! doesn't sound come as great.

  18. X-Rated Fucking League sounds like something Vince would have tried in 2004.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So how many hours of WWE is it this week? Raw + SD + ME + Troops + NXT? What is that. 3+2+1+2+1? Is it 9 plus?

    ReplyDelete
  20. so....TNA will have impact...then a show that goes "deeper" into the show and characters..oh and Don't forget the never before seen footage. This sounds terrible. Although if you look at it optimistically..if they are spending another hour a week picking apart impact maybe they will start to see the what they are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In fairness to Brock, when you don't promote the guy's return, it's not going to make a difference in the viewership.

The question I have, since we don't get quarter hour breakdowns anymore, is how low does the early part of the third hour get since I assume the main event/overrun still does well? It has to be under 3 million viewers for the 10:15-10:45 parts.

    ReplyDelete
  22. They should calls it Impact: Unwatched right?!

    ReplyDelete
  23. MikeyMike, JuggernautDecember 17, 2014 at 7:34 AM

Smackdown was a really easy watch last night; hoping for the same from Tribute to The Troops.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think the thing that was so great about Shawn, and Bret too, was their slow, but steady, rise up the card. You could get behind them and not have to worry they'd job put on Raw, because they went from tags, to singles, to IC level, to world title level. Seriously, look at their card placements from Wrestlemania 7-14. I think that's why a lot of people backed Cena, because it felt like "here's a guy the office likes, so we don't have to worry about him getting buried." Of course now he's beyond stale, but that's beside the point.

In a way it's kind of like a new TV show. It's hard tonget invested if you feel like its just going to get cancelled midway through season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's more how badly they've misused Lesnar. They didn't promote his return and you telling me they couldn't have just have some pretapes already in the can about him just talking shit about how lame the competition WWE is? Have Heyman go out and tell people Brock will NOT make an appearance tonight because you don't deserve to see him. Things like that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Something tells me that Nikita Koloff would be a part of this discussion as well... if he ever won the world title.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think, at the time, Shawn was pegged to be a Mr. Perfect level IC champ who could work a main event program when needed, but was never pegged to be world champ or focal point of the company.

    ReplyDelete
  28. At that point Vince was probably fully expecting to live off Hogan, Warrior, Sid and guys like that forever

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well they DID try to push Janetty as a singles star a few times. Its not their fault he sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That moment when Jannetty returned after six months, appearing in the mirror behind Shawn... Greatest thing my ten year old self had ever seen!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, it wasn't bad

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hiiiiiiioooooooooo

    ReplyDelete
  33. Doesn't seem like a bad idea at all actually

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't think there was that same fear back in 2003 about Cena getting buried, because WWE was still of the mindset to create new stars. It was after Lesnar and Lashley bailed that we started getting obvious "burials" to test guys out (think MVP). The first instance I can remember of a crowd clearly rallying behind somebody and the office keeping them down out of spite was Christian in 2005.

    ReplyDelete
  35. True no sense rushing to be in the Performance Center for several months before debuting on NXT

    ReplyDelete
  36. Actually I think that's more like Russo.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I really don't know if you mean as a competitor, or as a new business concept.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If that happens, I think Reigns should focus on promos where he talks about Cena's mouth and what he would like to do to it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You're a tough guy to have not already quit.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh i agree. What i mean is that he never looked out of place when had those single matches with guys like Savage and Steamboat. By the time he and Dibiase were the last two standing at Survivor Series '90, it was only a matter of time before they pulled the trigger on his singled push (the sevond time anyway)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Shawn - although always good - came on massively towards the end of
their run as a worker and more importantly as a character and soon
enough you could see who was going to be the star and who was being
positioned as such (Watch the 89 Survivor Series where Jannetty jobs to
Bobby Heenan of all people and Shawn lasts ages as a case in point).

    ReplyDelete
  42. WWE isn't a traditional TV program. Come on. If the NFL started seeing ratings declining across the board, do you think they would chalk it up to "well, TV shows don't increase year to year."

    ReplyDelete
  43. At Survivor Series 89, they randomly split the Hart Foundation up.
Neidhart got put on Warrior’s team in the main event, and Bret was on the
undercard. That was some weird booking. Reverse it, and Warrior’s team would
have been Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty, which is a pretty
    badass Survivor Series team.

    ReplyDelete
  44. No reason he couldn't have gotten him anyway. Early '87 Sting was just a solid prospect.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well, Rock didn't really move the needle either in his last run. No one is. Maybe wrestling just isn't popular right now, and nothing they do will change that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You'd be surprised

    ReplyDelete
  47. Some awful names here.

I don't understand why Kane ever get changed from "Big Red Machine" - it was perfect for the guy.

Another bad one - "The Rabid Wolverine" - what? What was wrong with the "Crippler"

I've always loved "The Game" and particularly loved the way it came about.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Raimi was forced to put in Venom, who he disliked, and since he and his brother were in charge of the script this time, they totally fucked it out of spite. I refuse to believe A Night At The Spidey was the result of good story telling intentions

    ReplyDelete
  51. Shawn was a major fuck up too so I'm not convinced that he wasn't one of the many pretty boy wrestlers that did some things to Terry Garvin or Patterson to get his major push. Never know.

    ReplyDelete
  52. But this phone has no cord!

    ReplyDelete
  53. "Big Nasty" is a hell of a lot better than "Big Show." I remember being disappointed when they changed it. How the hell is "Big Show" a description of a person? What does that even mean?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Shawn and most of the roster was still gassing at that point, as even below sized guys on the juice were pretty big

    ReplyDelete
  55. He still had his house arrest ankle bracelet on too....I kid

    ReplyDelete
  56. No lol. They were burying new guys long before 05. Rvd in 01, Jericho in 99/00 after Russo left and HHH got more power, and countless others

    ReplyDelete
  57. I was always under the impression that Jannetty was ear marked for that mid-card Tito Santana babyface type spot that was around the IC Title picture and that they never really had plans for Shawn past the initial Rockers breakup feud.

But then Jannetty got in trouble and it left Shawn in a position where he never got his comeuppance and it let him build the HBK character and that and the fact that he was a great worker really established that this guy is legit.

Vince still probably never saw him as a top top guy. That really took the steroid scandal and a change in philosophy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. What the numbers seem to show is the older and younger viewers are slowly tuning out, while the products has already been nearly abandoned by the teens to 30-somethings. The ratings have looked roughly the same because over the last 10 years the fanbase has gotten older. If you were already a wrestling fan you've stuck with it. New fans are made each year, but as they hit their teens they leave. That's why there's only been the gradual dip. The audience has been changing demographically. It's starting to look bad now because the turnover rate is increasing. Older fans are being driven off, and younger fans are losing interest faster.

Meanwhile the live crowd looks like the "right" age group, but that's because they are the most diehard of fans willing to actually pay to see the product. They are disproportionately represented. The key age group (which networks covet because it's who advertisers want to reach) has shrunk from roughly half to barely a third of the overall TV viewing audience.

My own theory is that its a combination of the poor writing, 50/50 booking, bad acting, awful comedy, PG violence--basically all the stuff we complain about on the BoD--failing to emotionally engage & mentally stimulate the fans as they reach that age where they begin craving more sophisticated forms of entertainment. Add that to the fact that they are the very demographic that hates to be talked down to, pandered to, shilled to, and exposed to WWE's constant barrage of corporate branding verbiage. We older fans may hate the "WWE Universe" and "Lunatic Fringe" and "$9.99!" being constantly pounded into our skulls... fans in that younger age group just flip WWE the finger and change the channel to something less insulting. And they haven't been coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  59. That would at least explain that "pull down my tights so I can show my ass" spot he incorporated into all his matches. "Popping" the boys in the back with that one

    ReplyDelete
  60. "despite his size. "

This is maybe overly reductive, but arguably in part because of his size considering the steroid trials and whatnot.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "We older fans may hate the "WWE Universe" and "Lunatic Fringe" and "$9.99!" being constantly pounded into our skulls... fans in that younger age group just flip WWE the finger and change the channel to something less insulting. "

THIS IS WELL SAID. I just wanted to emphasise that.

Although PG violence did just fine in the 80s, and I would argue that NXT's brand of violence is in the same category (I don't know - does Hulu show ratings? Is it PG?), just far, FAR better than WWE's brand of PV violence.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Jannetty's awesome

    ReplyDelete
  63. All this is true, but the overall television universe itself is adapting, and WWE is starting to look even worse than how we see it in that world.

TV is still driven by ratings, and the number that the TV world cares most about is the 18-49 rating. Go to any TV ratings website and you'll see. The next key stat is "Live+3" which is counting DVR views over 3 days. You can also find that torrent downloads for TV shows are tracked, though usually not discussed unless it sets a record (like this season premiere for "The Walking Dead"). Overall viewership--which has been WWE's bread & butter, and is the stat we wrestling fans have been most conditioned to discuss--is almost the last number mentioned. That's not the horse race the TV world is following anymore. It's demographics, and that's where WWE is really starting to drop.

  64. Ambrose accepts the Moon Man statue...slips on leftover glitter from Salt n Peppa performance of "What a Man", Sister Abigail on the ramp, 1...2...3.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sadly, that's probably the outcome of this.

    ReplyDelete
  66. D'OH! I kinda thought I was missing one or two adjectives. "Human Suplex Machine" for Taz was another great one.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Stephanie over Charlotte for the Women's Title, and Hunter beats the hell out of Ambrose, just for giggles. God damn it. I can actually see that happening.

    ReplyDelete
  68. They brought Jannetty back three times and he started off with a nice push when he returned in 1995 so somebody must have liked him. In Shawn's book he mentions Vince and Piper telling him at various times that he had a future as a singles heel.

    ReplyDelete
  69. A problem that I believe that CM Punk addressed in his "Pipe Bomb" promo. Something about Vince not knowing what the fuck he's doing, and things not being any better under the doofus son-in-law, and his idiot wife. Of course, I'm paraphrasing.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Eh ric flair often did the same spot, as did a few others. I think it was a common thing designed to give the girls a little eye candy during a mostly manly soap opera

  72. This email is so dumb. Everyone knows Jeff Jarrett is the CH CH CHOSEN ONE *harmonica*

    ReplyDelete
  73. It wasn't even THAT good. At least that would have had tits and ass to stare at. Instead it was more Cena "overcoming the odds" whargharble, and bullshit featuring Kane, the Authority, and a Money-in-the-Bank winner that is about as effective as a eunuch in a whorehouse.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Over the last decade the entire cable universe has been growing, while network TV has been shrinking. Along with that there's been a fracturing of the audience, where things like football and awards shows have less impact than they once did. Gone are the days where one hit show draws away all the audience from its competition. Most networks have grown niche followings, and seemingly every major cable network (and many lesser ones) have developed one or more hit shows.

"RAW loses viewers during football season" is no longer as true as it once was. They still lose some, but they also suffer from a seasonal viewership pattern like many other TV shows. And, frankly, they are just losing viewers too. We'll know in a month or so how bad it is when football is done. Right now with the drop in demo numbers it doesn't look good, as those have traditionally been more consistent. This week the 3 hours of RAW were in 4th, 5th & 6th place for the night; they barely beat out the 7th, 8th & 9th place shows.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Not to speak for John, but I think PG violence means, oh, I don't know, exploding TV's

    ReplyDelete
  76. "Revisionist HHHistory" should have been the title of his latest retrospective set. No matter HOW much he tells you it's true, no matter how many self-fellating interviews he tortures us with on live TV, Hunter never has been, and never WILL be, on the level of The Rock, let alone Austin, Hogan, or even his buddy Shawn. And that includes him marrying into part-ownership of the business. He can have his little shit-show where he buries, undermines, and cuts the legs off of everyone to make himself look better....but guess what? Rock...Rock has the fucking WORLD right now. Hunter will NEVER be that big of a star, and that has to irk his tiny, fragile little ego.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Ah - if so, then righto. Mm. Yes. Agreed!

I took it to mean 'Wrestling without blood and with certain moves e.g. piledriver disallowed'.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The big story in cable TV this fall has been "The Walking Dead" beating the NFL in the ratings. While the NFL probably isn't (too) worried about that, it's waking up the TV industry and their advertisers to the potential of premium programming on cable.

What this means to WWE is there's a danger that the USA Network might see RAW is an overpriced show based on the numbers it draws. They might decide their money is better spent on trying to find that next "Walkind Dead", "Breaking Bad" or "Game of Thrones".

Meanwhile cheaper reality TV fare continues to thrive. There's a reason USA pushes "Chrisley Knows Best" so much, as dollar-for-dollar it outperforms RAW.

If RAW doesn't see significant improvement next month when football ends...

    ReplyDelete
  79. Booker T in '03

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yes. TLC was a perfect example. You saw Ziggler & Harper legit bleeding & bruised from that match. I'm not really applauding them for that as I feel it wasn't necessary, but... hell, thanks guys, you didn't have to but you did. If ever there was a show that bizarrely showcased the reality of violence and the silliness of WWE's version of it, it was that show. Big Show show took a nasty hit to the hip, but wasn't allowed to play that up the next night. Rollins was probably just fine, but he gets to limp the next night, and have taped ribs on SmackDown. And Dean Ambrose received & performed any number of hits & moves that should have been sufficient enough to hurt him, though they didn't actually hurt him, yet it's an exploding TV that we know didn't really hurt him that was used as the catalyst for his loss.

It's gone from PG to G. Dean Ambrose is Daffy Duck now.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I just don't understand why they didn't tape a bunch of Lesnar promos/vignettes of him training. Like they'd do in UFC, or that other combat sports company NXT

    ReplyDelete
  82. Oooooh a Cena Corps match.

    ReplyDelete
  83. That's kind of a fallacy. Rock segments did huge ratings actually, and he propped up the buyrates on 3 straight Wrestlemanias and did a pretty big number for Rumble '13. Hell, house show attendance was spiking when Rock was back pre-Mania 28, that's how much he heated things up.

Not saying Rock is the be-all end-all or anything, but he more than proved he was still a big pro wrestling attraction.

    ReplyDelete
  84. The crazy part, for me anyways, is that he still comes off as way better than the entire roster when he shows up.
The limited appearances thing does so much to make his character feel that much more special, it's amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Agree.

The product really is becoming... despicable.

    ReplyDelete
  86. It's the lack of logic in the booking and writing. Just go down the card:
Cena - Never in credible danger, and the one time he was (Lesnar whooping him at SS), they immediately backed off a potentially great story (which Heyman actually laid out for them on WWE Network pre-shows!) of what happens to Cena when his best isn't good enough anymore.
Lesnar - Non-entity on TV for months
Rollins - Directionless. He was suppose to feud with Orton, didn't happen, they cut his Ambrose feud short and without a culmination to get Bray into the mix. Now he's in this holding pattern on the fringes of Cena/Lesnar with this "bring back the Authority" storyline.
Ambrose - Pushed as a hot new babyface, yet loses every match. That'll get him over.
Ziggler - See Ambrose, but worst because they've gave him a signature win and immediately jobbed him to Harper on a RAW.
Reigns - He's been hurt, they get a pass here.
Bray - He's a not quite fully-formed idea. He's 'brainwashing' the WWE fans with his charisma, but he's not a heel, but he's also not face, and there's really no purpose behind his actions or ultimate goal to what he's trying to accomplish.
Bella Twins - Weeks and Months of complete garbage which ended in no payoff. Seriously WTF happened here???

And everyone else they just don't use or care about.

    ReplyDelete
  87. And the funny thing about this is Vince pretty much indirectly said he's conscious of his non-logical/linear booking style and that it doesn't matter because people have short attention spans, don't read, blah blah blah when he talked to Austin.

According to him his superstars are worthless Millenials who don't have balls, and his audience are a bunch of morons who get distracted by shiny objects.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I always thought that too. When the Rockers would hit their stereo manuvers, Shawn would hit his move with a little more grace.

    ReplyDelete
  89. That's just so damn ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Everytime Vince gave Jannetty the brass ring, Marty took it and shoved it down his throat then later on the night Vince would creep into his hotel room and spike his drinks with drugs just so Vince could tell everyone Marty doesn't have what it takes.

    ReplyDelete
  91. They pretty much buried Booker every year, except the year Booker won the KOTR.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Had Marty stayed motivated, I believe he could have done decent business with Shawn once Shawn won the world title.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Speaking of Tito, I always thought Martel was going to win the IC title once he broke up Strike Force.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Shawn eventually became a "mega-star"? When was this?

    ReplyDelete
  95. You're probably right. Shawn worked the houseshow circuit with Bret when Bret was champion in 93-94 and I imagine management thought that would be Shawn's ceiling.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wrestlemania 27. Highest grossing Wrestlemania, bud.

    ReplyDelete
  97. My general point was even with the Rock Bump, the ratings still aren't anywhere near where they were when wrestling was hot. It's just not popular right now.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Don't need him anymore, with Tripsy around.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yeah, how hard is it to go to the guy's house and tape a bunch of promos and play one or two of them a week until he returned? They do that for their DVD sets all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Where do you get all this wrong info? Chrisley outperforming RAW dollar for dollar? lmfao

    ReplyDelete
  101. They already do. I'm not sure what you guys aren't getting.

    ReplyDelete
  102. That's the highest rated show on TELEVISION. That's the exception. I should have listed it with WD.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Sure, and the main attraction was Lashley/Umaga (or more accurately Vince/Trump). Hell, Batista/'Taker was arguably a bigger match than Shawn/Cena. Not saying that Shawn doesn't get some credit, but that 'Mania and its buyrate doesn't make him a "mega-star".

    ReplyDelete
  104. a recipe for incredible television!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Last Tuesday's "Chrisley Knows Best" had 1.69 million viewers and a 0.7 18-49 rating. That show costs a fraction of what RAW costs. You can Google "cable TV ratings" and get all the numbers easily.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Shawn was the most over guy that night. Everyone brought tickets to see Shawn realize a 12 year old boy's dream that he realized 4 times already.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Wow, a roster full of divas and friggin' Stephanie gets the workout video....

    ReplyDelete
  108. Now it is, that wasn't the case three years ago. Like I said, they built up their viewership and fanbase by competing with MNF.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Even worse, humanities kid.

Still didn't refute anything I said.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I'm not going to avoid talking about a really ugly business (the United States TORTURING PEOPLE TO DEATH) because it makes people uncomfortable.

I know this isn't a political blog, but I don't think the opposition of torture needs to be politically motivated, I'd like to think that people, no matter where they fall on the political spectrum, can be against torture.

Were you against people discussing the Ferguson situation a few weeks back?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yeah...but torture doesn't work. All it does it radicalize more people against us.

What benefit is there in refusing to admit that we made mistakes and violated international law? I mean, everybody who matters already knows about it, we might as well own up to it and attempt to apologize for it.

And how do you determine who needs to be tortured? We got the wrong guy and we tortured him to death. He didn't deserve that. Look, war is bloody and awful, I admit that, and I think isolationism and pacifism are pretty stupid, we live in a global community and as we possess the most powerful military in the world it's our responsibility to intervene when things get pretty goddamn bad (i.e. we should stop genocide with military force). But we're hurting our efforts when we act like vengeful lunatics. If we live by a code where we avenge every harm dealt to us with harm dealt in return, how can we possibly achieve peace?

And we're nothing more than our actions. We're not inherently good because we're Americans and our enemies aren't inherently bad because they're our enemies. Al Qaeda is bad because they kill innocent civilians. ISIL decapitates journalists, sells young girls into sex slavery and fights to create a crazy, oppressive theocracy. They're not bad because they don't like us, they're bad because they do bad things.

And...in what way do our enemies not respect us anymore? I think the fact that we can send our flying death robots to any corner of the world is pretty fear-inspiring.

  112. Fire? Depends on your definition. They're not pulling in 8.6s but that will never ever happen again. The world has changed. Pro Wrestling isn't on fire anymore. This is customary. (And not because wrestling is cyclical...its because every business is cyclical)
On the other hand, they are turning regular profit (which is different than every quarter being profitable)
They have grown to a global operation.

All within 10 years. Most companies would kill for this.

And if you have any doubts about branding, just go grab your latest iProduct.

But you know this, Scott. You have grown your own brand. When the Netcop branding failed, you tried something else. Until it worked. On a small scale, sure, but it worked. Now some schmuck can come to you and say "well, aren't you setting the world on fire" and you'd chuckle because you know that's a disingenuous auto reply. You're just happy that you're getting a regular profit. That's branding and youve been benefiting from it since 2002.

  113. You call that a push?

  114. Man, I remember him HATING Angle being put in that street fight against Shane at KOTR '01.

    ReplyDelete
  115. You're right. He only went from tagging with his stepson brother to headlining the biggest show of the year as NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Not much of a push at all!

    ReplyDelete
  116. that was the same year he fought Boogey Man at mania!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I thought that was a popular sentiment at the time. I remember someone (Scott? Kunze? Meltzer?) writing at the time that a world class athlete like Kurt Angle should not be rolling around in broken glass.

I like the Shane match, but it's a fair point.

  119. Weren't they in hot water over an incident during a Euro Tour a few weeks before that? I always figured Jannetty doing a clean pin to Heenan was some kind of punishment. Makes no sense, otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Nothing is as popular now as it was back then. TV ratings as whole have gone down, as people abandon cable or just find other things to do.

  121. If I don't care to discuss politics in this forum, then why would I bother refuting anything you said? With no offense intended, I don't care about your political opinion because I don't know you. It's not a discussion I come here for. I'll just say that it's rare I put any credence into what college kids say, because they typically don't know anywhere near as much as they think they do. It's likely that your opinion will have evolved quite a bit in 20 years, when you have the benefit of some real-world experiences and more time to observe what drives world events. It's wonderful that you have strong opinions (sincerely), but you haven't yet realized that no one cares. Your opinion is only important to you and some of the people you're closest to.

  122. I read about 10 posts in the daily thread when the grand jury decision was announced and bailed out. You seem to be struggling with my point here. Wrestling, by nature, is an escape from reality. When I'm already tired of news coverage of things like Ferguson, I don't read a wrestling blog for even more opinions on it.

  123. You know, all I hear is, "it's mostly the bookings fault! The talent is there!" Well what if the talent ISN'T there? I've said it since the start of this "era" that the guys who we root and cheer for now are only good workers, not GREAT workers. They appear great because the rest of the talent is complete garbage. So when we see a decent little Dolph Ziggler match, it appears "AWESOME!" And then cue the This is the Awesome fad. You can just see it when you watch the live audience or even go on these boards. Anything that is "acceptable" we hear, THIS IS AWESOME! Standards are so low at this point that I can't even imagine where there will be this year. Yes, the booking is atrocious and it's hard for these guys to overcome that, but it's time to start putting the blame on the talent as well, 50/50. They just aren't as deep as they were years ago. Just start from the top of the roster. John Cena, decent worker 7-8 years ago, never good on the mic, cheesy as fuck, never believable as the ultimate bad ass and winner he's being portrayed as. Roman Reigns, a guy who they are forcing down our throats ALREADY, just like John Cena, without letting him get over organically. Wait, he can't get over organically, because he's not good enough. The same can be said all the down the roster. Only four guys I can list within the last few years have gotten over organically.. CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, and Cesaro. They dropped the ball with CM Punk, BLATENTLY ignored Bryans mega rise until the fans had to force their hand by booing Batista, Dean Ambrose is still over, but the WWE is dropping the ball MAJOR on him and come back at me in 5 months and we'll see where he's at, and Cesaro.. well, you know the story. I mean, if I had to choose my favorite active workers in WWE as of right now, it would be Ambrose, Ziggler, and Bray, and only Bray could I see myself giving a shit about if this were 10-15 years ago. The talent sucks and the booking sucks. Way she goes, boys.

  124. Take it up with Scott and make it a policy to not discuss real world issues. Until then I'm going to mention current events, just like a lot of people on this blog do.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Perhaps I will change in 20 years, who knows, that's a long time from now.

But...nothing I've mentioned is factually incorrect, and it seems a mite hypocritical to call me some ignorant kid (about my political opinions) at the same time expressing a desire to engage in political discussions.

You're making two arguments here and they're stepping on each others toes.

    A) You don't want to discuss politics because this is a blog that covers escapist fiction.

    B) You don't want to discuss politics because I'm a damn fool (my words).

Saying I'm a damn fool about politics is...a political opinion. You think my politics are unfounded and underdeveloped, which is entirely possible, but that'd still be a political discussion.

Don't argue politics at the same time as you're telling me not to argue politics.

    ReplyDelete
  126. "Take it up with Scott." What a douchebag. I'm clearly not saying you don't have the "right" to say whatever you want, I'm just letting you know how you're likely to be perceived. I'm sure you're loads of fun to talk to in person at parties...just veering the conversation into whatever direction allows you to spew some unsolicited opinion. How often do you catch people rolling their eyes at you when they think you're not looking?

    ReplyDelete
  127. My view of the credibility of college-aged kids has nothing to do with politics. You could be liberal, conservative, libertarian, socialist, or whatever the fuck, I still would think you don't know what you're talking about. The point is more that young people often shout the loudest, even though they know the least. It's not exclusive to you (or to liberals), you're just a shining example of the theory. That's not a political opinion. Not a single time in this entire conversation have I offered a political opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Except you haven't actually given an example about how I don't know anything. You're brushing off even getting to an argument because...I don't know, it's easier than actually thinking.

America tortured people under Karl Rove's watch and he is now justifying those actions and I think he's an evil bastard for doing so.

    ReplyDelete
  129. So...you want me to do you a favor and stop talking about politics because NOBODY on the blog likes it (even though you're the only making a stink) and then, after asking me to do you this favor, proceed to call me a douchebag who doesn't know anything.

You're not very good at this, are you?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Bully for you, you think Karl Rove is evil...because that addresses my point how, exactly? Let me see if I can make this easier for you, because you're having an exceptionally hard time understanding what should've been an easy point to digest. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. I don't care (politically) what anyone here thinks. I could agree with every point of your political philosophy and I'd still think you're a clown, because only clowns wedge political opinions into conversations where they're unwarranted. It's not about you, or your hilariously unsophisticated and partisan views (Karl Rove = Adolf Eichmann!! Ask an elderly Jew about that comparison, but get ready to be punched in the face). My beef, as it has been all along, is with the self-absorption it takes to wedge a political opinion into a conversation about wrestling nicknames. Your political opinions may never evolve or mature from where they are currently, but hopefully you'll develop the wisdom to realize when they're appropriate to espouse. Otherwise, you'll just come off like a colossal dullard for the rest of your life. You get a lot smarter by listening, not by hearing yourself talk.

    ReplyDelete
  131. For a dude who doesn't care, that's a lot of text.

And Adolf Eichmann and Karl Rove were both called the architect (hence the reference to Seth Rollins). For a guy obsessed with listening, you're shockingly unobservant.
