Hi everybody!
ReplyDeleteNo more Mojo. Please, no more.
ReplyDeleteDarren young is one of those wrestlers that if they just never wrestled again, I would never notice. However, he would be never be future endeavored because of his sexuality.
ReplyDeleteSo, the Rumble's not too far away - who are we predicting to make a surprise appearance?
ReplyDeleteAdrian Neville?
Baron Corbin?
Daniel Bryan?
RVD must be a shoe-in, seeing as it's in Philly, surely?
Rey mysterio at number 30
ReplyDeletecoming out to Daniel Bryan's music, with a fake beard attached to his mask... :)
ReplyDeleteChristmas NEWZ must not be that hot.
ReplyDeleteIs that how the previews for Raw usually look? Yikes.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything more utterly worthless than Raws in late December? I know I can skip the live thread tonight (let alone the actual show) and not miss anything.
ReplyDeleteYou're gonna miss the banter dude, the bantz
ReplyDeleteCorbin is probably the safest bet, but Neville is also a good choice. My inner mark keeps hoping for a crazy Finn Balor entrance and mini-push though.
ReplyDeleteu wot m8
ReplyDeleteproper bantz
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see that too, although at the same time, I'd be sad we'd miss out on an NXT-booked Zayn v Balor feud...
ReplyDeleteAnother reason I miss WCW. They'd be focused on Starrcade coming up on Sunday (assuming they had it on the 28th).
ReplyDeleteA Raw right before Christmas? If you want your sanity, you would avoid this show at all costs. Vince McMahon comedy will be in full force.
ReplyDeleteI think the fact they tape Smackdown before Raw is broadcast tells you all you need to know... ;)
ReplyDeleteCan we please get Seth Rollins away from John Cena? I was sitting here wracking my brain about this: who was the last person that actually benefitted from a program with Cena in the long run? Bryan, maybe? Because outside of Summerslam 2013, I think you have to go back to 2011 to find a Cena feud that actually elevated someone higher.
ReplyDeleteI really hope they're sitting on a surprise Bryan return at the show. Every now and again then have something good, and him coming out to an insane pop would be on Best of the Rumble clip shows for years, like Cena in 2008.
ReplyDeleteCena's very good at benefitting from a system in which he does do jobs but never actually elevates anyone.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of sheer awesomeness NXT could deliver in 2015 blows my mind... Itami, Balor, Zayn, Owens, Kidd, Neville, women who can wrestle and wrestle well... Hell, they even have me semi-anticipating Corbin-Dempsey, and that's no small feat. I almost worry that with expectations so high, I can't help but be let down.
ReplyDeleteHi dr nick
ReplyDeleteWE GOT OURSELVES A TWERKIN ELF MAGGLE HAHA I LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteJust as long as someone waves some car keys in front of Vince any time he looks like noticing NXT, we should be ok. In fact, there should be a full-time job in that for someone - just waggle keys at Vince any time he looks to be getting too involved in anything...
ReplyDelete"Let's have Cena v Orton in a 60 minute Iron Man match main event at Wrrrrrrrestlemania, dammit!"
"Hey Vince, look at the shiny shiny..." *jangle* *jangle*
"Shiiiiiny. So, what were we talking about again? Who's Daniel Bryan? Did he sing Summer of 69?"
The only reason that doesn't work is that a Bryan return overshadows everything else, so he almost has to win. If they want to pull the trigger on Reigns, Ambrose or Ziggler, a Bryan return would kill them dead.
ReplyDeletetop,top bantz
ReplyDeleteI like the cut of your jib.
ReplyDeleteIronically, the Shield *as a collective* were elevated superbly by the fact that no-one, not Cena, not Orton, not Big Show, not Sheamus, etc, was able to beat them, even when united. It then led to the superb breakout elevation of Daniel Bryan - the crowd reaction when Bryan basically took them out single-handedly was roof-raising and probably the last genuinely superb bit of booking involving Cena at all.
ReplyDelete(I'm choosing to forget Cena getting a victory over them, via countout was it, because it was clearly a fuck-up in booking terms and never mentioned again...)
Nothing going on.
ReplyDeleteepic banter
ReplyDeletearchbishop of banterbury
ReplyDeleteIs Barrett healthy?
ReplyDeleteI'm inclined to think we have correlation without causation here, though. Cena didn't decide to go clean over Bray to end their feud, or for Bray to have no clear direction for months after that. Because if Bray wins, then what? Lesnar obviously wasn't negatively affected by wrestling Cena; Orton is just whatever. Daniel Bryan certainly benefited from a clean win over Cena. Before that was the Mark Henry program, which was a one-off sort of last hurrah for Henry as a top guy. Before that was Ryback, who was arguably way higher on the card than he should have been in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI could keep going back, and you'll probably find more guys who didn't benefit from a Cena program that did. I say it's correlation without causation because I think it's more of a function of a lack of a clear direction for almost everyone (even Cena himself at times), rather than guys being damaged goods specifically because they feuded with John Cena. Rollins is someone they've put a lot of time and resources into and they clearly think he's a huge part of their future. They could still fuck it up, sure, but I don't think specifically feuding with John Cena is going to derail him.
Seriously, I'm trying to go back and think about Cena's biggest feuds over the past five years, that I can remember: The Nexus, Miz, Punk, Miz and Truth, Rock, Big Johnny and Big Show, Rock again, Ryback, Bryan, Del Rio, Orton, Wyatt, Brock and now Rollins/Authority.
ReplyDeleteTake out the guys who either were already top guys beforehand (Rock, Show, Brock, Orton) and the authority figures. Miz was an afterthought after Wrestlemania XXVII, Ryback fell into mid card Hell, Miz and Truth never went anywhere afterward, Del Rio was pretty much a non-factor after he lost the WHC for the last time, and Wyatt was set back six months after their feud, and still hasn't quite gotten all the way back yet in my opinion. Lest we forget Cena killing the shit out of the Nexus angle at Summerslam 2010. That is a horrible track record; only the Punk feud and the standalone Bryan match had a positive impact.
That's a good shout, actually - I'd forgotten all about him.
ReplyDeleteDefinite easy crowd-pleasing return, that one.
Henry should have won the title against Cena. That retirement speech swerve was heel gold and he should have been the guy to finally be the first black WWE Champion (not counting the Rock as he's only half-black).
ReplyDeleteHe may not be all that in the ring, but it at least felt a bit fresh.
In a perfect world, Rollins feuding with Cena is a great thing; makes him a legit main event threat, etc. The problem has always been the execution I think. Once Cena wins in the end, you are almost invariably deflated and less effective.
ReplyDeleteWe probably wouldn't have gotten Bryan vs Cena ,though.
ReplyDeleteThey continually make people look like chumps in cage matches against Cena - Wyatt and Rollins both looked very weak and totally reliant on their sidekicks. The Wyatt one in particular was a fucking embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sure Cena would have won it back a few weeks later ;)
ReplyDeleteHenry was in the miracle zone between 2011 and 2012. He was a treat to watch; it's a shame injuries and age (and Creative) conspired to kill the character dead.
ReplyDeleteLast day of work before Christmas vacation. Please let it not be stupid.
ReplyDeleteCENA beat all three.
ReplyDeleteCM Punk beat the shield in a 3 on 1 handicap match.
ReplyDeleteI agree that he was good and hall of fame worthy but I never really took him as a World title threat. Not to Hogan or Warrior especially. Maybe he could've had some shots at Bret in late 92-93.
ReplyDeleteYour profile pic is awesome. I use to play the heck out of Mega Man 2. Anyway, getting squashed by Vin Erich at SummerSlam was terrible. The Beefcake loss was bad but not as bad. In 1990/91, Hennig went 0-7 on WWF PPVs.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he would have been a threat to Yoko in 1993.
ReplyDeletefor some reason the Awesome Truth thing really bothered me. I like Miz (I know I'm in the minority on that) and him and Truth were getting some seriously great heat with that team and what they were about. I thought they had a chance to finally have these two guys break through (and yes I know Miz main event Wrestlemania, but he was prop for Cena and Rock).
ReplyDeletePunk called them out on it too, said that at SS they thrown Rock and Cena together against them and the show bombs, they blamed Miz and Truth.
AMBROSE took the pin of course.
ReplyDeleteGod Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless are the worst sports journalists to have their own ESPN show.
ReplyDeleteThey wrestled on a NITRO.....I specifically remember during that stage where Ric Flair was courting him for the 4 Horsemen, Curt Henning responded I'm not saying yes, I'm not saying no....all I'm saying is "I'm in the main event against Randy Savage..." over and over
ReplyDeleteI enjoy them.
ReplyDelete"Journalists"
ReplyDeleteNeverrrrrrr
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't get HYPED. He STAYS HYPED!!!!
ReplyDeleteMe too. I like that they have "characters" and aren't just standard analysts.
ReplyDeleteIt's fine if you watch without any expectations.
ReplyDeleteEspecially the expectation to be entertained.
ReplyDeleteWell if your definition of a good worker is someone who can illicit a response from the crowd, then Hogan as one of the best.
ReplyDeleteIt was a couple great moments (children's choir in sheep masks, Bray promo while wearing Cena's merchandise) surrounded by crap.
ReplyDeleteTNA is getting ANOTHER show on Destination America. That's three shows they will have now. Impact Wrestling airs Fridays from 9-11PM. UNLOCKED airs Saturdays from 10AM-12PM and TNA Wrestling's Greatest Matches airs Saturdays from 12PM-1PM.
ReplyDeleteThe King of the Ring qualifiers with Doink in 93 were good, too.
ReplyDeleteWrestler returns from injury! Not Daniel Bryan, not Wade Barrett but Darren Young. Yay.
ReplyDeleteNow we can get the bunny payoff!!!
ReplyDeleteThat greatest matches thing sounds interesting. I don't know why there's no show for wrestling like they have for ufc which gives you like an hour or so of random classic matches thrown together on a show.
ReplyDeleteBOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteHey these are some good time slots!
ReplyDeleteBut they are over at the same level!
ReplyDeleteRoman Reigns: Future Top Babyface
Seth Rollins: Main Event Heel
Dean Ambrose: Clumsy Buffoon
Man, now the whole humping situation is REALLY awkward.
ReplyDeleteI think the Series match actually worked out better without Warrior. It was a nice touch that Perfect still had heel tendencies instead of him magically turning good overnight. I remember him being heelish in the Bret match at King of the Ring also but showing respect after it was all over.
ReplyDelete"I LOVE IT MAGGLE!...prefer it tied-up in the shower...BUT I STILL LOVE IT, MAGGLE!!!"
ReplyDeleteVINTAGE YOUNG!!!
ReplyDeletePerfect. If you showed me the "WWE now" exchange and didn't tell me that you wrote it, I would've totally believed it as genuine.
ReplyDeleteRollins' takedowns and grappling holds were honed in the rings of low-budget homosexual federation, Cyberfights. It was also in Cyberfights where Rollins learned his trademark facial expressions. "In Cyberfights, the fans focus on your face even more-so than the wrestling", Rollins says. "So I had to excel in that category as well. You know, really look like you're in pain one moment, then in a fit of pleasure the next." Rollins then displays an array of his dazzling demeanors, from one titled "Alone with the Boys in the Dark" to "Happy, Happy Ice Cream Day."
ReplyDeleteWell, we can't all cut promos like these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvCo2PAVuXE
ReplyDeleteJemelle hill still exists and works for ESPN you know.
ReplyDeleteLike when she farted on Bubba Ray..oh wait wrong Young
ReplyDeleteESPN: Where if news doesn't exist we create it.
ReplyDeleteBayless is much more annoying, but he's supposed to be. He's basically the GOP/right wing crazy guy.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them are annoying, so I never watch. I don't even watch PTI that much anymore.
Sorry for TJ but wanted to get this off my chest. Was watching attitude era stuff on the Network and, with hindsight, saw what became the start of HHH’s reign to the top of WWE in real-life because of his blooming relationship with Steph. I can’t knock him for it, because WTF look at Chyna, but I still feel bad for how her life turned out. So, in watching that era of HHH’s rise to power in real life, it shows no one is all bad and no one is all good. But let’s take it a step forward:Trips simply took a turn that led him down a road he could not veer away from once he started hurtling forward. Power is both a corrupting force and a heady form of existence. Power is addictive. Beyond that it instills a feeling of righteous entitlement…which makes one wonder what the product would be like today if Steph dumped his ass back in the early 2000s.
ReplyDeleteThat may the be loosest use of journalist ever.
ReplyDeleteSkip's gimmick is that he goes opposite of whatever people are saying, no matter how ridiculous it is. I can't stand him and couldn't bring myself to watch anything that he's involved in.
ReplyDeleteProbably worse, since Triple H is the "good" creative force that checks Vince just a little.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how you build a character around the fact that this guy is just excited all the time...unless that guy is the Warrior and you are pushing him to the moon.
ReplyDeleteKnowing how fickle we are, when HHH is actually in charge, we'll all be crying for Vince to return.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way when Shawn turned face. He was always my favourite but I didn't expect he's ever be a good guy. Exciting times. I was pumped over the Perfect turn to. It's cool seeing guys you think of as bad guys suddenly become good. That's probably lost these days when Randy Orton turns face every two years.
ReplyDeleteIs there any good quarterback that Houston could get in the draft that's not mariota or Winston?
ReplyDeleteBig Show.
ReplyDeleteKane.
Orton.
Mark Henry.
OR what if 17 year old Steph marries Macho Man in 1993 go
ReplyDelete"Wait a minute, TNA's Greatest Matches is nothing more than dead air!"
ReplyDelete(j/k, actually that sounds like a good idea)
Hundley?
ReplyDeleteNo. The answer is there are none.
ReplyDeleteBeen reading a little about the Network trying to figure out exactly what they miscalculated that's led to it failing and it really just comes down to numbers.
ReplyDeleteThey bought into the BS that they had 'brand awareness' in 50m or whatever homes in US and the truth of the matter is that RAW viewership bounces between 3.5-4 million people each week. That is their audience.
Out of that (let's be generous) four million, approximately 25% shell out for Wrestlemania, and anywhere from 5%-12% (12 is higher end like the Rumble, most are closer to 5%) shell out for everything else. That's on most given months 90-95% of your audience who doesn't pay for content.
So their calculation had to have basically been they could get almost everyone who pays for Wrestlemania to subscribe to the Network, and that will be a break even point for the transition and then we can grow from there, but, of the million people or so who buy Mania each year, how many of those are just impulse buys? People who find themselves with nothing to do on that night and just decide to buy it for the hell of it? Those aren't people who are going to decide to subscribe to WWE for the long term. How many of those people are parents who have no interest in wrestling who's kids bug them to buy it the day of and they just give in and get it, but aren't going to buy/aren't technologically savvy enough to understand WWE Network?
And then I think they drastically overestimated the appeal of their library. People remember moments. You want to watch Hogan join the nWo, you go to YouTube. Very few people want to watch the entire Bash At The Beach '96 show. Horsemen return on Nitro? YouTube. Again, very few people are sitting there watch the entire Nitro.
So I kind of think WWE is stuck unless their product gets better in the broadcast TV audience gets larger. About the only card they have left to play is live streaming RAW & Smackdown which would hold some appeal for cord cutters, but they would cause issues with their TV deals and possibly cost them more cash.
It looks like a pretty weak QB class after those two.
ReplyDeleteShe's nowhere near as bad as those two.
ReplyDeleteVery weak. Good draft for running backs though.
ReplyDeleteIs Unlocked a hidden camera show where they open the doors to the arena and see if anyone shows up?
ReplyDeleteI want this alternate history written soooooooo bad.
ReplyDeleteI dunno man, she's pretty bad. At least Bayless and Smith make me laugh on occasion, even if for the wrong reasons.
ReplyDeleteShe's worse.
ReplyDeleteI hate taking sick days (because then I'm not making money that I always need) but I can't get rid of this fucking cold and woke up dry heaving again. Working the weekend didn't help so I need ONE. MORE. MATCH., er, day to try to get rid of this damn thing.
ReplyDeleteThey had Bull Dempsey squash him. That is like 10 times beyond giving up on a guy.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever taken a sick day
ReplyDeleteEverything about this is sound and logical.
ReplyDeleteYou sir, sicken me.
I mean, the reasons are obvious (porn, overall craziness, heat with the owners), but it is amazing how Chyna doesn't exist in WWE history at this point. I think JR said she was clearing seven figures easily at her height, and was one of their biggest draws in terms of everything. If ever there was a hall of fame worthy person, but absolutely no chance that ever happens.
ReplyDeleteI think more than anything, the biggest miscalculation wasn't what they thought the upside would be, but publicly boasting that they'd get it. This isn't a new thought by any stretch, but overpromising and underdelivering- both on the Network and the value of their new TV deal- is what hurt their stock more than anything this year. If they'd pitched the Network as a short-term loss leader that was going to, over time, be at the forefront of content distribution, they could have sold themselves as being ahead of the curve and bought themselves some time, perception-wise.
ReplyDeleteAlso- and I've had people with more business savvy than me explain why this wouldn't be a great idea, because it would look desperate, but I can't shake it- I wonder if starting at $14.99 and then lowering it to $9.99 after the first six months would have worked. For the value you're getting- and to the people who actually care enough to subscribe, it's still an incredible value no matter how little non-diehards care about the archives and whatnot- I'd think the subscription numbers wouldn't really have changed that much at $14.99, and then you could have a serious chance at a boost with a 50 percent discount after six months.
Holy shit, Solomonster just had a crazy idea for WrestleMania. If Cena goes over Lesnar at the Rumble, and you do Roman Reigns vs. John Cena in the main event, why not do Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar in the David vs. Goliath match in a semi-main? Let Triple H wrestle Dolph Ziggler to give him the rub, Sting vs. Undertaker, let Randy Orton wrestle Rusev, and then have Rollins and Ambrose end their long-standing issue in the proper setting.
ReplyDeleteI'd buy the shit out of that show.
Damn, I can't imagine a world like that.
ReplyDeleteBingo. I said it in a thread a couple of days ago that I'm a desired type for the Network, one who wants original content like NXT and the biggest archive of wrestling ever compiled in good non-shitty YT quality on my TV, but WWE's misfire was thinking I'm the majority and not the minority in their fanbase. It's a niche product and fans like ourselves are niche within that circle; most of their fanbase are like my mark fans, people who do watch it weekly and order the Big Four, but don't have a need for archived content on top of Netflix/Hulu and regular TV take up their other screen-watching time and money.
ReplyDeleteYou don't get paid for sick days?
ReplyDeleteAmbrose read this on his phone, didn't see a waste basket, tripped on it, Bray showed up in his home, Sister Abigail, pin.
ReplyDeleteWith Survivor Series doing 33,000 domestic buys last month, is it possible that Mania somehow ends up with 200,000+ buys or something next year, on top of the network subscribers? That'd be a nice hunk of cash on top of the network money.
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm technically freelance, so I don't have a salary, it's play-for-pay.
ReplyDeleteI would hope that's their misfire, because that's at least rational. Misguided, but rational. But I'm actually skeptical.
ReplyDeleteI think they actually thought somewhere out there there's 50 million people who still kind of like wrestling and those people are itching to subscribe to the network. And that's just a delusional thought process. Or they thought their audience was going to be reinvigorated by this cool new network and the whole product would grow because of it.
And their perception of themselves was just flat out wrong and crazy.
That makes business sense, but I'm not sure there's enough potential subscribers there for them be doing much better.
ReplyDeleteThis IS the same company headed by a man who went on Austin's podcast and said it was Cesaro's fault for losing his heat when Austin said that pairing him with a heel manager was probably not the best thing for his fan momentum.
ReplyDeleteI'd expect Mania to do like 5x whatever they're doing now which is consistent with how Mania always does, so yeah 150k-200k.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, no Rock, maybe no Taker this year. Not sure they have the big top of the card draw that casual people want to see.
"Rawley appeared in front of the crowd at a NXT house show in Jacksonville, FL with his arm in a sling vowing that he will return in two months. The crowd started chanting, 'THAT'S OKAY! THAT'S OKAY!' and 'TAKE YOUR TIME! TAKE YOUR TIME!' and 'DON'T HURRY BACK! DON'T HURRY BACK!'"
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, it's not just us. It's everybody who has Internet access.
ReplyDeleteI really,REALLY don't want to see Cena as a champ ever again, even as a transitional one.And I like the guy.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if he's a franchise QB potential, but he's worth a flier. He's more reliant on his legs than the others so he's definitely a risk in terms of not panning out as going more pocket-heavy as needed in the NFL.
ReplyDeleteYou called that for sure, he is awesome! Actually I thought Reigns was going to be the breakout surprise, shows how much I know either. =)
ReplyDeleteIn the vein of Age Of Apocalypse perhaps?
ReplyDeleteOh for fucks sake..
ReplyDelete"- We noted before that WWE creative was working on a new gimmick forAdrian Neville on the main roster. PWInsider reports that the gimmick was described as being "Mighty Mouse-esque" which is a reference to the cartoon character."
If he's healthy, I still think their biggest draw is Bryan/Lesnar for the belt. On top of David vs. Goliath, the unstoppable champ versus the most over guy who never lost the strap. Sells itself.
ReplyDeletethis isn't rocket science, JUST KEEP HIS FUCKING CURRENT GIMMICK
ReplyDeleteSome sort of celebrity match,I suppose.
ReplyDeleteMuch like any team that needs a QB, just draft some and hope they work out. It'd help if the team isn't a garbage organization and actually help develop players.
ReplyDeleteThat would be awesome
ReplyDeleteSTING
ReplyDeleteSo they're downplaying the height and ears thing then. That's good.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Sounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteTHE VIGILANTE STING DAMMIT
ReplyDeleteTHE SHEYOCK! MASTAAAH!
ReplyDeleteYes!
ReplyDeleteWill it include mouse ears and a cape? PLEASE SAY YES!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds? I get it! An ear joke!
ReplyDeleteSo he will be an underdog of sorts.
ReplyDeleteYou know who was awesome? Ken Shamrock. Ripped and a crazy son of a bitch. They need to get more wrestlers like him.
ReplyDeleteWWHD?
ReplyDeleteWhat would Harley do?
That would be cool, even on just the Network. Instead of re-running the latest PPV, just have a random hour of best-of stuff stuff every night at 8 et/pt. Pick a month and have a theme, like great Royal Rumble non-Rumble matches.
ReplyDeleteShe's up there. It's like she has an endless supply of race cards.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of race, Colin Cowherd sucks and, as seen with his views on John Wall, seems pretty fucking racist (compared Wall to Mike Vick after Wall did the Dougie in his NBA debut)
They have a show on Sky in the UK called WWE Vintage Collection, which is actually this. Some weeks it'll be an angle laid out in order like Chavo vs Eddie in 1998, other weeks it'll be Best Survivor Series matches, stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteMain events in the Nitro era became more of a spectal more than anything, via name value & fantasy matchups....
ReplyDeleteI mean, Sting & Warrior tagged against Hollywood & Hart. On paper that has money ALL OVER IT. But the match was a throwaway & got zero promotion, especially the reunion of the Blade Runners.
BUT....holy shit, that's a bad ass dream tag match. And I could get into those big dream matches regardless of quality.
Sting v Hart, Hogan & Savage v Sting & Luger, Savage v Sting, Hogan & Savage v Flair & AA..... Hogan, Piper, Flair, DDP, Goldberg, Hart, Sting, Luger, Warrior, Steiners, Wolfpack, Henning, Sid...sick fantasy roster.
So is he gonna shout "HERE I COME TO SAVE THE DAY!!!" when making a babyface comeback or when he gets the hot tag?
ReplyDeleteGetting about 20 percent of your audience to pay anything
ReplyDeletemonthly for your product is really pretty good to be honest. But yeah I don't know if there's a business model in which 9.99 is really enough cash coming in.
That would be perfect. you could fill a week worth of 8pm half-hour/hour-long slots with stuff like the Jericho/HBK 2008 feud, replay snippets of their interaction on RAW that month heading into a PPV for the first half hour and then the match proper.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks dude. I had a virus the other week that was terrible, felt fine last week and all happy that I'd gotten it out of the way before Christmas, but now I've got a cold. This world.
ReplyDeleteThe product probably would be worse because we wouldn't have NXT, most likely, the one consistently great thing they're doing. It's still Vince putting the final say on most of this slop.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Chyna, I've thought the same thing. But wasn't there a fairly sizable gap of time between when HHH and Chyna broke up and when HHH and Steph started dating? Because they weren't dating for real for quite some time after they were married on-screen, right? And in terms of Chyna's career, it took off to even greater heights for the last couple years after she went off on her own. I feel bad for her too, but more in the general way I feel bad for all wrestlers who sink into the gutter after being on top, rather than any specific way related to HHH and Steph.
When I was a kid and it was still real to me dammit, I thought Ken Shamrock being labeled "The Most Dangerous Man in the World" was legit, like he could kill Navy SEALs and such, anyone you put in front of him, Ken could kill with his bare hands.
ReplyDeleteOh, to be young and stupid.
Dear Vince -
ReplyDeleteStuff has happened since your white trash childhood; lots of it, in fact. Negroes can vote!
Your pal, everyone.
PS fuck Mighty Mouse
I think Cena Rollins also should've gone on last, especially since Cena went over. The Wyatt Ambrose finish just left a bad taste in my mouth
ReplyDeleteI may have tried to gut it out if my family wasn;t coming up tomorrow for Christmas week, but fuck being sick during that, I'll sacrifice a day (that I already made up yesterday coming in on short notice) to make sure I'm 100% for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI always flash back to Canadian Stampede when Pillman was gouging his eyes and biting before slapping his arm on the mat and yelling "he's tapping out!"
ReplyDeleteNo not Underdog. Mighty Mouse!
ReplyDeleteIm in favor of a mighty mouse gimmick!
ReplyDeleteYeah whatever happened to guys just being intense wrestlers? Why does everyone need some specific gimmick nowadays?
ReplyDeleteGM Steph was the hottest Steph, had the best body of her career and pre-Chyna workouts.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VCqbCC28aM
They should book him to get squashed in all of his beginning matches. Give him a losing streak gimmick to boot.
ReplyDeleteHe really shouldn't have left. He became a bit of a wreck afterwards. Made a lot of money. Lost a lot of money, I think.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably just a side effect of grossly over estimating the subscriber base.
ReplyDeleteHo. Ly. Shit. This company.
ReplyDeleteSOOOO FUCKING HOT
ReplyDeleteThey should forbid him from using ice-packs as well
ReplyDeleteBecause they aren't having any fun!
ReplyDeleteStephanie right when she got the new boobs is untouchable. There was one SD that opened with her leaning over. That was a good day.
ReplyDeleteHe was very prone to internal injuries.it mustve been a rib or something but you could set your calandar around the amount of times he had blood coming out his mouth and JR telling us it was internal injuries.
ReplyDeleteNo surprise. Sad to say but that guy has hit his ceiling in wwe. The only thing left for him is to be a mid card jobber on Smackdown. Its the WWE, what do you expect or want?
ReplyDeleteThat's the link he put up.
ReplyDeleteHe also admitted that they could have done better with Cesaro (and with booking in general). So to say he said "it's his fault" is overly reductive.
ReplyDeleteHis comment about Cena being the only one to try and grab the brass ring was, of course, absurd. But his specific comments about Cesaro had a lot of truth to them. I love the dude, but he does nothing to make me care besides have good matches. Bad booking hurts, and I think how over he was through WM30 is more an example of fans responding to a talented guy because of GOOD booking. Because through that point, he'd been booked really well for awhile building up to his face turn. Turning him back heel and pairing him with Heyman, with no specific plan to elevate him, was bad. But we've seen fans stay with other characters through bad booking, and Cesaro hasn't been one of them.
Isnt bryan out for a really long time. If he ever comes back again?
ReplyDeleteYou never know. Neville's moveset/speed are so crazy that he could get over solidly just on the strength of his physical ability. No one can do what he does.
ReplyDeleteBeing NXT Champion outside of Rollins has been a curse.
ReplyDeleteBig E. - dancing and sweating guy in stable of losers
Bo Dalls - motivational guy that had a winning streak, but now gets squashed and is injured
Neville - cartoon character based on his looks
Zayn - working in a bunny costume
So do you think a higher price would have been the answer? I'd have paid $14.99 a month, because that would still equal what I was spending on the 3-4 PPVs a year I bought.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really surprised by it, just letdown.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure it was retaliation potatoes.
ReplyDeleteWe're not really called negroes anymore, FYI.
ReplyDeleteDo you really think it will make any difference if he gets over or not? In all seriousness, no one if the WWE will care if he gets a pop or not. Evan Bounes old spot is the best PAC can probably hope for IMO.
ReplyDeleteWerent you sick last month? Im getting you a new immune system for christmas.
ReplyDeleteWell, I try to be an optimist at times.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to blow Vince's mind with stuff like "African American" or "black people". The "people" bit would be odd to him.
ReplyDeleteWhat does this mean for Zayn, Itami, and Balor? It can't be good at all.
ReplyDeleteYeah, last month/the other week. It was the same thing. But yeah, I’ll take that new immune system definitely, cheers.
ReplyDeleteThe last two are speculative, and Zayn is just working as the bunny, but probably won't actually be the bunny.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not sure why I'm defending WWE right now.
We all know what kind of shit hole that place is. He shouldn't have expected more. I didn't. I think it's 50-50 they won't fuck up Zayn and he has the potential to be one of the biggest money drawing babyfaces of all time.
ReplyDeleteYOU are the new Vince Jordan!!!
ReplyDeleteDo you need a room?
ReplyDeleteZayn is so good. Like Punk and Bryan I think he and Steen can rise to the top, probably same for Balor to a lesser degree. The Japanese dude is fucked already.
ReplyDeleteWWE will probably bring Zayn up as a heel.
ReplyDelete*Darth Vader arm shake* NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly if he changed his name to Diabetes.
ReplyDeleteThey face off on Nitro on August 11, 1997. It was sad, both were slow and shells of their WWF selves.
ReplyDeleteYeah, especially since nothing ever happened (storyline wise) on Prime Time. So Perfect sort of turning babyface and joining the main event was a nice reward for sitting through Tatanka vs Hercules and Skinner squash matches.
ReplyDeleteAs a little kid, I started watching the WWF in 1991. The only wrestlers I watched for (you could tell who was athletic and great and who sucked) were Mr. Perfect, maybe the Bulldog, the Rockers, and Bret Hart. Then Flair joined. Then Savage got reinstated. 1992 ruled. Sort of.
ReplyDeletePerfect was never going to be Denzel, but maybe Denzel's good friend. His babyface character sucked and wasn't going to have the American family saying "That guy thinks he's better than everyone! Let's get front row!"
ReplyDeleteFlair/Perfect might be the best WWF free TV match from 1960-1993.
ReplyDeleteTo me, there was always something missing with Henning and for the life of me I can't figure out what it was. He executed his moves "perfectly", he sold as well as anyone ever, he was good on the mic (especially as a heel with the "I'm perfect and you're not" stuff). So I don't know what it was. Maybe as a heel he wasn't threatening enough to the superhuman babyfaces like Hogan and Warrior. And I always here people argue that if not for his injuries, it could have been him instead of Bret as the top babyface in 1992-1994. But I disagree with that. I was in the arenas (or at times, gyms) where the there were deafening "Let's go Bret" chants and the crowd never, ever gave Curt that type of love. I just don't know what it was, but something wasn't there apparently.
ReplyDeleteI've had that issue ordering UFC PPV's on my PS3. Now I just use my laptop hooked up to my TV.
ReplyDeleteBret was a guy kids liked. Curt was a guy adults liked.
ReplyDeleteYes! Very good.
