Rey Mysterio Update
The WWE has reportedly offered Mysterio a lucrative deal to return to the company on a full-time basis. According to Steve Sims of the Figure Four Weekly Newsletter, Mysterio has had a change of heart about returning and the WWE does not have a major name to help them in the Mexican market. Sims also reported that the deal he heard offered to Mysterio was the best he is going to get for the rest of his life and will most likely have a reduced in-ring schedule to avoid major injuries.

Great idea WWE.. cut your talent budget and then spend a shitload on your most injury-prone heatless superstar. #AnotherNailInTheCoffin
ReplyDeleteI actually like the idea of Rock vs. Cena vs. Punk in a three-way. Rock/Cena 2 seemed so forced and uninteresting, Punk would have added a cool heel element to play off both guys.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with that. Never a bad match.
ReplyDeleteThats actually one of my favorite matches. Yeah I know it was no benoit/angle and it didnt give meltzer an orgasm, and no ono will confuse it with all japan's hayabuku vs Ken Ryuhishamuru (im not even sure they are real people). But it was entertaining as hell and thats all I want wrestling to be.
ReplyDeletePunk and his minions seem to. But I totally agree with you. Why is this guy playing the "victim card" again?
ReplyDelete40 year old Rey and 55 year old Sting getting WWE deals. Love it....
ReplyDeleteTo me that's solving the wrong problem. The problem should always be "What's the best and most interesting main event we can make?", not "How can we make a second Cena/Rock match more interesting?"
ReplyDeleteWithout an obvious outcome?!!?!
ReplyDeleteIn this scenario, Punk would've been champ for over 500 days, and he's facing JOHN CENA, and Punk is the HEEL, in the MAIN EVENT of WRESTLEMANIA...
#LOLCENAWINS
To me, 100% = 100%. But that's just me.
ReplyDeleteThe swearing is off the charts. Rock openly says "Shit!" outside the ring at one point, and literally yells out something like "Fuck you, motherfuckers!" when he has Hogan in the Sharpshooter. Such filth!
ReplyDeleteIt's the "Fall of the WWE" happening right before our eyes. We're witnessing history.
ReplyDeletewell, alright alright :)
ReplyDeleteBut when you think about it, technically, Rock/Cena "never had a bad match" by then either. But hey, they just had to beat the dead horse by having them wrestle a *gasp* SECOND TIME.
ReplyDeleteAnd they couldn't give this deal to punk why?
ReplyDeleteAt least Rey can sell merch.
ReplyDeleteI was there live. It was also the debut of his incredibly awesome "helicopter intro" theme.
ReplyDeleteThey should really start making new stars. (Sorry, trying to bait vj)
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that with so much talent just laying their in developmental or not being used as they should be on the main roster, they still continue to push guys that are wayyyy past their primes down the viewers throats. I could count on one hand the number of WWE stars that have been built in the last 12-13 years. Who seriously wants to watch a show with Triple H, Sting, Undertaker, Rey, etc. in 2015? That's what Mania is going to be like.
ReplyDeleteThat's the major point that I disagree with Punk/agree with Alvarez & others on, that his WM29 match with Taker wasn't a main event and therefore second rate and not enough. For 10+ years taking on UT at Mania was a marquee match and a definite major selling point of the show. Not saying he shouldn't still want that one time to be the last match of the show, but in terms of "WrestleMania moments", being against Taker in the far-and-away match of the show definitely counts as one. I mean, which HBK/Taker match is more famous? The one that DIDN'T close the show, the one that WASN'T a closing chapter to a career.
ReplyDeleteTremendous stuff.
ReplyDeleteMiz was great back then. He was even winning Observer awards at that point. Miz earned that one.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't want to give him a Mania main event?
ReplyDeleteI bet some still bought it. For example, I have been hounded by my local phone company with incredible deals to get a smart phone. I KNOW it's a great deal, I KNOW it's better in every way... But gosh darn it, my 2008 flip phone is still working, and THAT IS THAT! New technology scares me, so that dinosaur flip phone is staying until it breaks! I bet tons of older fans feel the same about PPV vs Network.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised WWE doesn't bring in a few masked Mexican wrestlers as a tag team, they're easy to get over (to a midcard level)
ReplyDeleteIf any match should have been retconned to a threeway, it's that one. Punk/Cena/Miz would have been fine, and foreshadowed the Pipe Bomb to come.
ReplyDeleteLook at the NXT Tag Champs.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they have that fat electrician dude on Raw with his belly out and wearing a Rey Mysterio mask the other week? Didn't seem like a warm invitation for Rey to return
ReplyDeleteYep, lots of people seem to compare 2013 Miz to 2013 Punk when thinking of WM 27. Back in 2010, they were actually at a pretty similar level.
ReplyDeleteDo they really need to spend money trying to chase TNA's audience? How many young superstars could they hire for the amount they are spending on Sting?
ReplyDeleteAdd to that the insane pop Austin got when he beat up Bischoff (with Ross losing it on commentary), and a few solid matches including Brock/Benois vs Team Angle, and... One of the best live shows I have ever been to.
ReplyDeleteThey have at least 5 guys in NXT that would make these crappy Raw shows better and they don't have clue how to use them. Fucking idiots.
ReplyDeleteThe Rock arrives to Mania in a helicopter. Taker arrives from the depths of hell.
ReplyDeleteHe is slowly turning into this generations Bret Hart.
ReplyDeleteI know that, I'm just saying plainly that Punk/Cena was always good. That's all.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I was just adding to it. No prob. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great show. EXCEPT for the Ross bit. I remember finding that really embarrassing as JR went so over the top. :(
ReplyDeleteWell.. seems they are trying to chase WCW's audience. The guys that stopped watching wrestling 14 years ago. I'm pretty sure they've moved on by now.
ReplyDeleteHeck man Sami Zayn is wrestling in a Bunny costume!
ReplyDeleteYep, huge name, made his mark in the industry, but was only maybe 1/10 as important as he thinks he was. (note: very important, but.... ya know.)
ReplyDeleteUntil they leave the NXT roster I don't consider them to be part of the WWE roster.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I check out NXT so rarely that the only champion I can name off the top of my head is Charlotte.
It takes time to be that big of an egomaniac. Give it awhile longer.
ReplyDeleteEventually, The Shield members will have tears in their eyes.
haha, i only saw his mannerisms while being there live, but when I youtubed it a few years later, I laughed like crazy.
ReplyDeleteAND in a major wresting anomaly, Hogan didnt get his win back.
ReplyDeleteHow exactly would a dildo kill him? I sure it would hurt like hell, (unless he's experienced) but ultimately I think he would live.
ReplyDelete.... totally worked!!!! *hulk smash* haha
ReplyDeleteThe difference now is that wrestlers can learn their craft on NXT rather than being on the main show before they're ready. Imagine not having to watch the formative years of Chris Masters, Bob Holly, Rock, HHH and all the others who spent years before they became good/great
ReplyDeleteJust rehire Macho Libre.
ReplyDelete"SAY EVERYTHING TWICE! Say everything twice."
What was one of the biggest hooks of the WWE game a couple of years back? The ability to play certain points of the Attitude Era. The Monday Night Wars are STILL being brought up to this day.
ReplyDeleteI'm agreeing with you, btw - I just think they're chasing an audience that may not be completely moved on, but not as many as they think.
Wow, they really wanna keep Rey, I think he should take the deal, he'll be set for life. But yep, he's pretty much done as a wrestler, I think we'll all agreed on that.
ReplyDeleteHere's my theory as to why WWE keeps the older guys on the roster and continues to sign guys like Sting and Hulk Hogan, but first let's look at some statistics by way of The Wrestling Observer:
ReplyDelete"* The average viewer (for the three shows) is 41.4 years old. The report indicates that viewership is getting older instead of younger.
* Audience viewership is 63% male. Total Divas skews number down a bit because it would be closer to 68% for just Raw and Smackdown.
* The viewership for three shows is less than 19% under the age of 17. 22% of the viewership is between 18 and 34, and 22% between 35 and 49. 37% is over the age of 50."
This tells us a lot. The average fan is nearly 42 years of age. Nearly 60% of WWE's audience is 35-50+ years old. That is an alarming figure to read when you think that WWE's target audience is kids and younger adults. WWE reads into these numbers and figures that the older audience wants their older talent to be on TV. Guys that they grew up watching. Instead of building new stars for the younger generation of fans to get behind so that they can watch them when they themselves get older, they feed to the current fan base, which is the 35-50+ year olds. That is one of the main reasons that the WWE is also not retaining any new fans as well either. WWE is not looking at building the future at all. They are instead stuck in a now mentality which results in no new stars being developed and old guys being brought in so WWE can pop a short term buyrate or rating.
Not even close. If they were around back then Bret would have been on 400 podcasts pissing & moaning, not 2.
ReplyDeleteBig change from him not cashing in any of his checks.
ReplyDeleteEven with Rey, you had to think the WWE would come around eventually. He's one of their few positive marketing commodities and I'm glad he was in a position to get more money, but I really don't want to see him wrestle again (if his knees are shot).
The once on a life time match they had the year before too?
ReplyDeleteAnd when Sami Zayn unmasks and turns on The Bunny, it'll get a huge pop. It's a start. And from a start you could end up anywhere from being the next Daniel Bryan to the next Colin Delaney
ReplyDeleteFunny how both guys felt so entitled that they basically wanted WWE to change their entire main event plans "just because it's me". Both times, I agree with WWE that they made the right decision.
ReplyDeleteLike you've ever watch him wres-
ReplyDeleteoh, never mind.
;-)
That is exactly what I just explained. The way it was booked, it happened "organically". Like WWE didn't create the rematch, it just happened because "the cream rises to the top", and they crossed paths again.
ReplyDeleteIf he's kept to a part time schedule or in a tag team, he can still be a major asset in the ring.
ReplyDeleteI dunno the dude thought wrestling hhh was beneath him. Considering HHH singlehandedly took down WCW, I would say punks ego is on par with Hart's.
ReplyDeleteThe most recent demographics for TNA I found were from the Torch in mid-2013, the average age was 49.1. It's wrestling all over. In 25 years wrestling might be in rough shape once us old fogies start dropping off.
ReplyDeleteYep, or even just appearances and signings, like an ambassador.
ReplyDeleteI think the stats are a bit skewed, b/c while the main fanbase may be 35-50, they sell a lot of toys, and toy companies now aren't keen to putting their names behind what they used to do.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of marketing towards children, focused marketing towards the brand and a lack of cohesive character-driven stories is a huge reason why they're not doing well.
If "What's Up" makes it past the first round I will be forced to go to Justin Rozzero's house and replace his doorbell ringer with that godawful chorus as punishment for even including it in the poll.
ReplyDeleteI'd let him make me a taco. Didn't he and Chico have a stand in Tijuana?
ReplyDeleteGet Juicy to round two and I will ensure a loss for you ;)
ReplyDeleteHave to disagree with that. At no point did Rock/Cena II feel "organic". It felt like we were getting there no matter what. It was completely telegraphed.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have as big of a problem with Rock/Cena II, but I'm not going to say something as ridiculous as it was "organic".
It got my vote!
ReplyDeleteI fully support this plan.
ReplyDeleteWell we'll have to agree to disagree I guess. Plus it made the Rumble feel more credible again (after a few years of "Rumble Winner curtain jerks Mania)
ReplyDeleteHHH did what now? lol
ReplyDeleteNot a big R-Truth fan, I presume?
ReplyDelete"What's up! (What's up!) What's up! (What's up!)"
ReplyDeleteHow is this a bad chorus?
As long as he yells out the correct town.
ReplyDeleteThats what the network told me. Dont shoot the messenger.
ReplyDeleteWell if you consider the obesity rate of the average wrestling fan (myself included) 25 years is being very generous.
ReplyDeleteFor me - and, I think, to many - the difference was that Taker's last four WM matches were against other "legends", guys that were seen as being above the rest of the roster. Punk, as popular as he was, wasn't at that level (kayfabe or realistically), and instead of being some dominating force going into the match, was coming off several high-profile losses.
ReplyDeleteI still think that simply shuffling the titles of the existing card would have made the show/matches FAR more intriguing - Punk/Taker WWE, Rock/Cena WHC, and ADR/Swagger US.
Anyone else find it a bit odd how much wwe is fighting to keep Mysterio?
ReplyDeleteIt was paint by numbers though. RUMBLE: Rock beats Punk for title, Cena wins Rumble, Cena picks Rock. And this was all after Rock says he's going to be champ again, and it gives him the strap for 2 months, and he can go back to Hollywood after Cena gets his win back. It was all very "you can see every move coming a mile away".
ReplyDeleteBut again, I didn't hate any of it, and would gladly take a Cena/Rock match right now as opposed to what we're currently getting.
BUT....it was predictable as fuck and telegraphed in every way imaginable.
Maybe the blog could do a best wrestling theme tournament? Any thoughts on what would win? My guesses would be real american, pomp and circumstance, stone colds theme, or sexy boy.
ReplyDeleteNope. Kids buy his masks. Totally understandable why they're trying to keep him, even if it's on a reduced schedule.
ReplyDeleteRebooking Wrestlemania 29 is rapidly gaining steam! "Rebooking the Invasion" is now seeing it in its rear view mirror!!
ReplyDeleteThing is, it just as easily could have been for the WHC. I mean, ADR/Swagger, seriously?
ReplyDeleteThe fact that my first thought upon reading "What's Up" involved R-Truth tells you all you need to know about my feelings on this tournament.
ReplyDeleteLet's not go that far. It ain't on Mount Rushmore like the Invasion yet.
ReplyDeleteThe reduced schedule makes sense. He can be an asset. I guess I'm just surprised they are going out of their way to keep him.
ReplyDeletehmmm... the WHC was basically a mid-card title by then. Sorry, but that wasn't happening.
ReplyDeleteAmerican Dream.
ReplyDeleteGive it a year or 2. It has youth on its side. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought him teaming up with Sin Cara was a good way to use him
ReplyDeleteGive it time my friend. Wait a couple of years when AJ is gone and people forget about him. He might be comfortable financially, but that ego wont let him be irrelevant. I might also add he's my favorite wrestler so it's not a "punk hater" thing.
ReplyDeleteJakes original theme was just so awesome. Among others obviously.
ReplyDeleteI get it.. and it actually may work to a degree. I saw my Facebook page light up and a lot of them were people that stopped watching years ago. If I was WWE, I'd probably do the same thing. The difference is that after Sting wrestles there is no reason for anyone to stick around afterwards. The product sucks.
ReplyDeleteheh, heh, that's the 2nd post i've seen this week, not about "IF AJ leaves Punk", but *WHEN* AJ leaves punk. :)
ReplyDeleteI get this new plan. Instead of building up new stars like they used to, they hire older stars with name value or who have never been involved in WWE.
ReplyDeleteAss Man
ReplyDeleteI expect "One Sweet Day" to nake it to final five
ReplyDeleteSo it's still green? It's in the NXT of blog conversations, but eventually it will move to the main roster?
ReplyDeleteI seem to be stuck in an analogy.
Shame that after Sting, there's pretty much nobody left.
ReplyDeleteI felt that too that Punk vs Taker wasn't that interesting and good on the paper. It's sometimes that specifig wrestler combinations just don't work. Same with Punk vs Lesnar. Punk vs Cena would have been much more interesting. Or Punk vs Triple H. Punk vs HHH, Cena vs Taker and Rock vs Lesnar would have been nice for WM29. :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Invasion will pull it's creative control card to stop WM29 breaking through the glass ceiling.
ReplyDeleteBadstreet U.S.A
ReplyDeleteAgree, like it love it or hate it, anyone could see it coming from miles away. There was no intrigue to it at all. Predictability can be fine, but personally I had no interest in the match at all and still have never watched it. Cena/Rock as some sort of dream match up always felt totally contrived
ReplyDeleteI wasn't exactly a big fan of keyboards and synths, but I always liked the fact that it sounded different from everyone else's theme.
ReplyDeleteMagnum TA... he's in just as good a shape as Sting.
ReplyDeleteAbdullah the Butcher
ReplyDeleteoh, good gawd, no. That was so bad it was amusing, but please.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm just trying to point out that in kayfabe terms, WWE really did mean the "once in a lifetime" thing, and at least they had a logical way to getting there. Like they didn't say "Screw it, we'll just do it again". it was "out of their control" due to the Rumble rule. So I was fine with that.
ReplyDeleteSure there was - go with the same set up they did, only have punk beat Rock for the title and get all snarky with vince about how things didn't go "according to his plans". Then have him beat the UT to end the streak. Since they would up doing that a year later, is it really that far fetched of an idea? Would've been exciting if nothing else, and you elevate Punk even more.
ReplyDeleteIs it just in house music or do we get to include stuff like Limp Bizkit and Saliva?
ReplyDeleteNew Jack
ReplyDeleteLOL at Punk beating the streak.
ReplyDeleteNikita Koloff
ReplyDeleteHe could be a mentor to Rusez before turning on him with the Russian Sickle!!
These are all great names.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of New Jack, it makes me laugh still to this day. Thanks Maffew
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xT0Cuytxx7g
I actually meant when AJ leaves the WWE. I dont know if I mentioned that. I was playing supercard on my phone.
ReplyDeleteToo bad his heel run didn't go on long, as his "trust me trust me trust me trust me" theme was great. It was similar to his face theme, just... more evil sounding somehow.
ReplyDeleteIn house, I would say.
ReplyDeleteWell, this email WAS clearly written by a butthurt Punk mark who thinks calling the dude by his real name is a nifty little dig at him.
ReplyDeleteHe had a great guest spot on Boston Legal.
ReplyDeleteVery true. Grown adults could wear Punk's gear and look normal -- like Austin's stuff or nWo shirts. Most of Punk's t-shirt designs don't scream "Wrestling Nerd"! Heck, I would wear a Punk shirt and I haven't bought or worn a wrestling t-shirt since I bought a Monday Night Jericho shirt in high school.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, any grown man wearing a Cena shirt often looks like he missed the short bus.
Same answer.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Freebird. What's your excuse??
ReplyDeleteI'm Hoss.
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeletePunk was not on Miz's stratosphere in early 2011, and I hate the Miz more than my wife.
ReplyDeleteOh, Al Sharpton is terrible. And a crook. And doesn't like paying taxes very much. His business is for profit. Nothing more. And he absolutely uses tragedy whenever he can to further those business interests.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not using Fox talking points or anything. I'm super liberal politically. (Well...for the U.S. I guess) But man do I not like that guy.
Good for Rey Jr. He can always go back to Mexico when he is in his mid-40s and wrestle in six-man lucha matches hitting his big spots until he is 70, like all of the other huge lucha stars. He really shouldn't be in any rush to go to Mexico despite being 39 and broken down. He can do a reduced WWE schedule (like Batista) for a few more years, make a few more millions, then spend his retirement in Mexico teaming with La Park 36.
ReplyDeleteI've always been a fan of Christian's "Blood Brother" theme(WWF The music Vol. 4) when he was in The Brood.
ReplyDeleteDamn you beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteBack to Mexico? Isn't he from San Diego?
ReplyDeleteThe reverse Abeyance.
ReplyDeleteI meant in terms of his career. His career started in Mexico
ReplyDeleteI wasn't intentionally trying to make a WE THE PEOPLE Zeb Colter statement.
ReplyDeleteMaybe.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I was saying "yup" before he went apeshit with "yep."
Bah. I don't believe that. Your first name is white.
ReplyDeleteYou hate your wife that much? *rimshot*
ReplyDeleteDamn beat me to it, I was going to remark how obnoxious that was.
ReplyDeleteBecause it was terrible and didn't have to be.
ReplyDelete"Yup" is so much better than "Yep"
ReplyDeleteTawana Brawley. That's all you need to say about good old Al.
ReplyDeleteI paid for it at the theatre, and felt I got my $30 worth. That's just me.
ReplyDelete"reduced in-ring schedule to avoid major injuries."
ReplyDeleteSo basically he won't be allowed to like look at or even think about a ring?
Hilarious names is one of the only bright spots about jobs like that "Gaye Hair" is one of my all time favorites.
ReplyDeleteTJ: Finally listening to Punk's podcast from last week. And concerning his online critics:
ReplyDelete"Nothing I do or say is going to make them happy"
HA! Pot/Kettle/Black!!!
What makes a wrestling fan lamer -- calling The Rock "Dwayne" or acting like The Rock doing a WWE PPV main event isn't a big deal/good business decision?
ReplyDeleteCena/Rock II didn't draw what Cena/Rock I, but anyone who thinks Cena/Punk XVI at Mania 29 would outdraw Cena/Rock I either is in a state of denial.
Only brass rings.
ReplyDeleteAnd guess who the only person that's been indicted in that mess is? The guy who filmed it
ReplyDeleteWell, except that now, he's actually happy.
ReplyDeleteYep me too. The emailer should realize that "Dwayne" is simply a better wrestler than "Phil" and that's why he has been in six Wrestemania main-events and Phil has been in zero.
ReplyDelete...and he can't reach for those because HE'S SO TINY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYep, I laugh at the notion that "It was a failure because it was less than the first one". Sure there were diminishing returns, but those diminishing returns still gave you over a million buys, WHILE saving any new/fresh matches for future PPVs. Sounds good to me really.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else thinking that the mask is the real reason for Rey's sudden change of heart? He's at his most marketable while wearing the thing, but he can't put it back on in Mexico without getting killed (allegedly). So maybe pragmatism wins the day?
ReplyDeleteSome of it was bad luck - I was bored by the idea of Rock/Cena 2, Punk tried hard to make his inevitable loss seem interesting, and I was into the new Swagger character but his DUI screwed that up. And god, HHH/Brock? Why? The combinations were all wrong, guys like Randy Orton were wasted in six man matches ... it was just a giant shit show IMO.
ReplyDeleteHey man, Nookie was an absolute fire jam
ReplyDeleteWell, more importantly than "better wrestler" (which is debatable), he's about a hundred times the draw that Punk is. That's what matters to WWE.
ReplyDeleteFull time basis with a reduced schedule.
ReplyDeleteSo...more appearances and less wrestling?
Given that most people seem angrier at Al Sharpton, who doesn't really have anything to do with the incident, that's probably not surprising.
ReplyDeleteThe better draw IS the better wrestler. Hull Hogan was a better wrestler than Shawn Michaels.
ReplyDeleteBut dood, Star ratingz and flippity flopz in front of 30 people!!!
ReplyDeleteTJ: Had Nikita Koloff indeed signed in the WWF in the mid to late 80's, his WWF ice cream bar could have been called the "Russian-Sicle". Thank you, thank you.
ReplyDelete-Er.
ReplyDeleteHe's crying on the inside. That's why he can't watch wrestling anymore; it kills him to see Daniel Bryan doing so well which is why he has to take credit for that too. I don't even necessarily believe that, just throwing it out there
ReplyDelete30 people? Just a smidge ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really fair to paint Jackson with the same brush as Sharpton. Jackson has his flaws, granted, but he's accomplished a lot of pretty amazing things in his career.
ReplyDeleteI count Concession Kane's colleagues.
ReplyDeleteI mean when he was in WWE of course. Nothing they could do or say would have made him happy, and he was gonna quit and be bitter anyway.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm with you there. I figured though using the term "better wrestler" would open up a can of worms, with someone claiming a guy like AJ Styles is a "better wrestler" than The Rock despite The Rock making in a month what Styles makes in a year.
ReplyDeleteHow about if Test had been around?
ReplyDeleteIf it ain't White, it ain't right.
ReplyDeleteHe can be the new Spanish Announce guy.
ReplyDeleteWell damn.
ReplyDeleteThe table splinters would kill him.
ReplyDeleteThe irony? Punk probably could have had his main event at 31 if he had just been a little patient.
ReplyDelete"A little patient" is what the doctors call Rey Mysterio!
ReplyDeleteBOOM.
Well, Vince still owes him 3 favors. He just never told Punk when he was going to cash those in.
ReplyDeleteThe guy they've arrested, Ramsey Orta, says they planted a gun on him and while arresting him one cop said "karma's a bitch". Just beyond fucked up if true
ReplyDeleteWhy? Is it really that wild? He was quite over at the time too. I wouldn't have ended the streak at all but since they did a year later, that scenario isn't insane
ReplyDeleteYeah rr or whenever rock best him for the title
ReplyDeleteWhat's this about getting killed in Mexico?
ReplyDeleteOne part I didn't really get from Punk's podcast is what he was talking about with Triple H 3 years ago.
ReplyDeleteDid he mean that entire mess with Nash challenging Punk, and then ended up being Triple H because Nash got injured? I can't think of anything else, because Punk wasn't in Triple H storylines 3 years ago during WM. As I recall Triple H wrestled Punk in May or June PPV and won, and everybody was like WTF because it killed momentum from Summer of Punk last year.
30 wasn't in it
29 vs Taker
28 vs Jericho
27 vs ??? (I don't think I even saw 27 because I wasn't back with WWE yet)
Heightist!
ReplyDeleteIt's Bobby Eaton. He's always happy.
ReplyDeleteBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Maybe, maybe not. Punk definitely needed to shake things up with Vince and probably Triple H to get them on board with WM main event.
ReplyDeleteBut if WWE wanted Reigns to get the title, I'm thinking 31 wouldn't have been it.
Punk would have needed to bite, claw, and bitch his way into a main event even with Vince owing Punk 3 or more favors.
Nice Re-raise!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, but I do think that the fact it did 200k less means that doing the logical storyline thing- making it a Punk/Cena/Rock triple threat- means it wouldn't have done any worse than Cena/Rock II did.
ReplyDeleteI've been saying this since Punk turned heel in 2012, too. Not just parroting off what Punk said on Colt's podcast last week. Punk, Cena and Rock were just so far above everyone else over the preceding two years, and their stories so intertwined...I mean, unless one thinks including Punk would somehow make that buyrate worse, which is an argument I just have a hard time buying.
Maybe cause he was unmasked in WCW?
ReplyDeleteYou're just upset that he's married to your beloved.
ReplyDeleteECW's bad luck....the ONE guy who didn't leave or get injured was Justin Credible.
ReplyDeleteI preferred classic Mullet Magnum to the more 90s "Fight Club" Magnum who hung out around the concession stand in khakis and didn't wrestle.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't be happy getting stiffed on pay and being lied to?
ReplyDeletewhile Sharpton is fairly worthless (although the Brown family did ask him to come to Ferguson) he has become the white bogeyman. Any time he is connected to someting a certain faction of white people turn off their brains and just assume the side Sharpton is on is wrong. Reality is if you watched him in debates when he ran for President, he said a lot of logical stuff (and a lot of stuff that agreed with the other candidates for the Democratic nomination). But at this point he is such an anchor for any kind of real debate with people who already have a desire to put their fingers in their ears and say "nananana" while Fox News runs in the background. And that fact makes him an even bigger asshole, because he apparently doesn't care how counterproductive he is.
ReplyDeleteAnd apparently they take such things VERY seriously in Mexico. You can't just get demasked and then decide to start wearing it again, according to lucha tradition.
ReplyDeleteBut he should have been happy just being there and entertaining the fans! That's what WWE's all about, right? Putting smiles on faces!
ReplyDeleteThat's what Test said after someone helped themselves to seconds
ReplyDeletenot even close to the same. Just because both are black and happen to be prominent figures who protest what they perceive as racism and injustice does not make them anywher near the same.
ReplyDeleteHe's Smokin' vs. Don't Step to Ron would be a hotly-contested final.
ReplyDeleteHasn't he competed with the mask on during WWE's Mexican tours? I'm almost certain he did.
ReplyDeleteTriple H wrestled Punk at NOC in Sept. '11, and the ending was a total Attitude Era schmozz and I didn't think Punk lost any heat from it, personally. Then again, I have to admit I liked that period of time more than just about anyone else. I can't say it was, y'know, "good," but I was looking forward to watching every night at least, which is more than I can say now. A lot of it was nonsensical and I see where Punk was coming from, but for a couple months we had a Crash TV-type situation with a lot of intertwined stuff.
ReplyDeleteI was going to be a doctor, but I didn't have the patience.
