CM Punk owns the internet while you sleep. Again.

http://www.prowrestling.net/article.php?Former-WWE-star-C.M.-Punk-returns-to-Art-of-Wrestling-podcast-says-Vince-McMahon-should-be-a-man-and-call-him-if-he-s-truly-sorry-for-the-wedding-day-firing-40003

Unfortunately, like most sequels, it pales to the original. Still some good stuff though.

  2. I put up a brief recap on the other thread. I can copy it over here if anyone wants?

  3. Punk says he has $20 million in the bank. If he has that much then Cena must have a giant swimming pool full of gold like Scrooge McDuck.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Punk said someone on Twitter will say it's a lot of money and he would love to work for Vince McMahon for $5,000. ""That's exactly who he wants to have work for him, so go f---ing work for him. I know what the f--- I'm worth. Know how I know what I'm worth? Because Wizard World was going to pay me twenty thousand f---ing dollars to sit in a chair for four hours."

  6. That might be my favorite quote of the interview. The other one is where he talks about being scheduled to go over the SHIELD in a handicap match. The agents kept telling him over and over to make sure he still made them look strong (especially Reigns). Punk says "the thing that would make them look really strong is if they went over since there were three of them."

  8. Does this mean I'm never going to be able do download The Art of Wrestling again?

    ReplyDelete
  9. T-Rex has had more turns than the Big Show.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I haven't been able to download since the 1st Punk interview posted. I presume it's due to heavy traffic since other podcasts are loading. I read about some other folks having the same problem, but it isn't totally clear why.

  13. What CM Punk realize is that he was only worth that much when the WWE Machine was behind him.

In three years time he'll end up starring in gay porn like Chyna.

    ReplyDelete
  14. God bless Punk; One of the downsides of Vince owning everything is 'the boys' forget that there's a whole 'nother Universe of wrestling out there. Punk's 'I'm an independant contractor so I'm going to walk' is a total throwback to the Bruiser Brody/ Stan Hansen/ Steve 'Dr Death' Williams/ Nash & Hall/ Rick Rude/ every guy who was happy to make their own path. Funny to juxtapose this versus Vince's comments about all those darn 'millenials' working for him - this is the *ahem* 'universe' you built Vince, it's too late to complain about it now-!

People forget that you can still make fucking bank working in Japan too. There's a reason that AJ Styles can support himself on that and the indies. There's a whole wide wrestling world out there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Did quite the fucking burial job on the raptors, but they weren't getting their heat back after jobbing to Lex and Tim anyway

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's a shame, because ultimately most of these guys give everything they have to stupid wrestling and don't have anything to fall back on, so you'd think they'd risk pissing a couple of people off for a chance at some kind of career immortality.

It did work out for Punk, really. He was only a legit main eventer for about three years (I'm not counting the bleh years where he was World Heavyweight Champion, because who watched that?) but if he's permitted (which he would be in only a couple of years' time) he could return and be a top guy automatically, AND he apparently had $20 mil in the bank AFTER taxes.

Wrestling is such a small world.

  33. You can just back off Lex and Timmy right the hell now. They may have gotten their spot through the owner of the company but those two were a pair of bumping freaks. Going off cliffs, fences and trees, getting crushed by cars. Tim eats 10,000 volts and Lexy sells Jell-o AND the raptor threat like a goddamn world champ. Meanwhile Malcolm's kid chickens out of big spots but goes over the raptors anyway because nepotism & gymnastics.

Let me tell you something. I saw Gymkata. Gymkata is a movie of mine. And Lost World, you're no Gymkata.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You have to remember too that punks standard of living is much lower than cenas. He lives simply in a Chicago loft apartment. Cena lives in a Florida mansion and buys range Rovers for nikki.

  45. Can we stop the "breaks the internet" trope? Were I in marketing, i'd shut down my site at any minor news moment to automatically give it the illusion of popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He's being sarcastic. Cm puke could never crash a car let alone the Internet or iTunes

    ReplyDelete
  47. Punk giving specifics about his finances?

    Vintage Kevin Nash!

    ReplyDelete
  48. And I'm fine with that. I do like him, but I'm glad he's making it in Hollywood. Good for him.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Punk and Styles? Whatever floats your boat, I guess...

    ReplyDelete
  50. I put Sable, Chyna and Mick Foley in the same category. All 3 truly believed that they were above WWF/WWE, and could become super celebrities without that machine behind them... All 3 failed miserably.

Foley's story about how he didn't want the WWF cameras on stage for his Katie Couric appearance because she liked HIM HIM HIM, and it was all about HIM, well that was.... Incredibly arrogant and even childish. I read that part 3 times just to make sure I read it right, and... yep.

    ReplyDelete
  51. So he was bitching that he was booked to WIN a 1 on 3 match? Wow. He really CAN'T ever be satisfied.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Good for him then. (And I mean that. I hope he ends up having a happy and wealthy life, I guess I'm just tired of him whining and trying to make us feel like he's a poor screwed victim).

    ReplyDelete
  53. OR, maybe he has some good logic in him. Winning 1-on-3 versus the HOTTEST act at the time is rather stupid, wouldn't you agree?

    ReplyDelete
  54. That sounds like a really dumb marketing idea because you can't count clicks when your site is down.

    Eh, they're nice people.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Fun podcast. Not as earth-shattering as last week, clearly, but a few more instances of WWE's ineptitude and spitefulness. If there was any doubt Roman's their guy... sheesh, it's like all the old guys wanna shower with him.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You don't count the clicks, you put out a press release that interest was so HUGE that the site couldn't take it... Thus making a story out of a non story.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't necessarily see him "trying to make you feel like he's a poor screwed victim." He said he was beat up, he was tired, and he was dissatisfied with his job, so he wanted time off. They then proceeded to fire him on his wedding day. He's done with the legal stuff, so he wanted to tell his story (like everyone does when they leave). Yeah, there's some bitching involved, but everyone does that and he has cause for it.

I say good for him. He made a shit ton of money, he's apparently not hooked on anything, and he has a wife and a life out of it. But he still has a right to air his grievances.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I wish Dougie would tweet him "U mad bro?". He doesnt seem very pleasant.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You make nothing from that. You'll get one big influx, people will realize it's bullshit and never come back. It sounds like silly horse dookie.

    ReplyDelete
  61. The point in such an instance isn't to make money (since, assumadly your story/news isn't that big to begin with), rather to stir interest in your brand with the theory that it was so big that servers couldn't handle the demand... Selling yourself as a bigger commodity than you are. It's about perception not reality.

    ReplyDelete
  62. No, Dougie does not.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yeah, it's like going to a store and saying, "STORE BROKEN INTO AND ROBBED BECAUSE THE PRICES ARE SO LOW!!!" and you stay closed because of this for some time......to get publicity.

    ReplyDelete
  69. ROH's iPPV's crashed every time because their servers couldn't handle it. It was not a good advertisement for iPPV's.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Like most promoters, as long as he stops booking himself to be champion, he could be pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  71. ROH BREAKS THE INTERNET!

Uh no, my perception is ROH didn't pay for enough fucking bandwidth. Maybe spend more than $8/month from GoDaddy, cheap shits.

  75. HowmuchdoesthisguyweighDecember 4, 2014 at 6:42 AM

Damn. That's true. Was hoping for Dave to come back. I wonder if he is like rock and feels some loyalty to wwe. I could be wrong but batista doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would come back to do them a solid. His last run was a total bust until about 2 weeks before mania. Then he got rolling. As good as the evolution vs shield matches were, we probably only needed one of them. Batista should have faced Bryan at extreme rules.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I agree. I am very happy that wrestlers like Rock, Batista, Jericho, Nash, Austin, Michaels, etc. have found lives after wrestling and won't be hustling at indie shows for $50 a night before dropping dead of an overdose before they turn 50... like most of the stars of the 70s and 80s.

    ReplyDelete
  77. If he really does have 20 million in the bank, we can add the Petulant Child to that list too.

    ReplyDelete
  78. If were Batista, I would never got involved with WWE again. His last run should of been a victory farewell lap, and they botched it completely and made him look like a chump.

Lots of money was left on the table.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Listened to it this morning and thought they'd answer more reader questions.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Well, it depends on how much he splurges on Pepsi over the next 20 years. At least it's cheaper that cocaine and somas.

  89. re #2....yes, it was the intro to that song looped over and over so as not to get to the lyrics. Steve Austin used it in ECW in 1995 too. Obviously the Network or whoever dubbed it over.

    ReplyDelete
  90. No full episodes besides this? I wonder if MTV has partial rights to the first show. I'd assume music issues plagued other installments as well.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Wow that's ALOT more $ than I had thought he had. I was thinking more 8-10 mil

    ReplyDelete

  99. Punk is writing for Marvel and has plenty of money. He'll be fine.

    ReplyDelete
  100. C'mon, Punk isn't anywhere near that group. Besides, Sable's doing quite well for herself as a housewife.

Foley, on the other hand, is just sad. Once a carny, always a carny. At least Punk has slept with the Divas rather than just letching over them.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Serial is awesome. That's really all I have to add.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Or if they wanted Reigns to look strong, have him beat a former champ.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Agreed. However, for the time being I'm fine with all of my WWE-alternative eggs being in the Lucha Underground basket.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Whilst obviously not as revealing as the first podcast, I actually preferred this one as it seemed like two buddies chilling out having a retrospective, I think we got to learn and observe Punk's real life persona in this one a lot more because he was relaxed, which too me is always much cooler than the clichéd 'bitter wrestler' shooting on the WWE. I'd actually dig a regular Punk podcast where he just discusses past funny stories (both wrestling/non wrestling) and discusses his general interests/life.
