First Annual Blog of Doom Yearly Awards Poll

For the last few years on the Blog of Doom we've tossed around ideas about having a year end series of awards voted on by the posters of this site.  This year, I am going to try to put this idea into action and - to use a snarky analogy from this place - we will let it play out and see where it goes.  If you have suggestions for what we should call these awards - our version of the Slammy's - then feel free to include them in the comments section.

Listed below are a series of categories for this year's awards.  Most of them pertain to the wrestling world in general, but there are a few Blog awards as well.  I avoided negative awards because we know that will not end in anything good.  I also tried to keep the categories below twenty so we didn't have to vote for a million things.

For each category, identify and number THREE choices, with your first being what you most want to see win and third being your third-best choice.  The way awards will be determined is that the ranking of each choice will have a point value.  A first place vote will count for 5 points, a second place vote for 3 points, and a third place vote for 1 point.  The recipient of the most points will win the award.  When voting please include the heading of the category you are voting for and then put 1-(Insert choice), 2-(Insert choice), etc.

E-mail your votes to me at logan.scisco@topper.wku.edu.  I will confirm that I have received your vote via a return e-mail within 24 hours of you sending it.  The deadline for voting will be midnight on Saturday (January 3rd).  I will post the winners late Sunday evening (probably around 10 p.m. EST or so), hopefully with a link to a Heisman-style spreadsheet letting people see what received votes for each category.

The categories for this year's Blog of Doom Awards (as suggested by various posters):

  6. Yeah, I'm not emailing anyone anything. I don't wanna get [more] emails to donkey porn. IMO this is way too complicated for a pretend awards thing... Punk wins the last category though. Best poster is Scott for replying to me that one time. Easy win, pass the trophy.

In my voting, I totally forgot about Brock Lesnar beating The Undertaker to end the streak. I mean, when thinking of Moments of the Year, that did not even cross my mind. It's either been a long year with too much going on, or The Streak held no real impact for me.

In fact, now that I think about it, I've seen The Undertaker lose matches between Streak matches, and it really didn't carry over any meaning. Was The Streak really that important, or was it the WWE machine building it up as something important that took the imagination of fans?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Having a couple of good friends willing to abandon their families on most Monday nights to smoke weed and "Mystery Science" Raw with me is the only way I get through it. And by the end, with the help of the DVR fast-forward button, I find I enjoy most of these Raws. I highly recommend this viewing method.

  30. for promotion of the year : shouldn't NXT technically be WWE ?

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's a separate entity right? That's what Triple H always says.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Adam "Colorado" CurryDecember 28, 2014 at 2:12 PM

There's just no one in WWE that really interests me to watch. It's not "it sucks", more, "I just don't care". And the commentators make the show unwatchable, get rid of them and I'd tune in just for the in-ring action. I would watch NXT if they had an actual TV show.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Adam "Colorado" CurryDecember 28, 2014 at 2:14 PM

I consider it a separate promotion, but I totally understand the argument against that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was wondering since i wanted to say NXT in no.1 but felt bad to put WWE instead, I guess i should have done like you

    ReplyDelete
  35. I do NOT want to
come right out and say that I like it when the WWE admits sports-entertainment is scripted or
pre-determined in the way Eric Bischoff, Kevin Nash, Vince Russo, et. al used to do in WCW (such as writing it so that performers to talk about the storyline itself), but rather just
give a quick wink at the audience, only for the wink to be immediately
slapped down--this is why Taker losing the streak, hands down, was the moment of the year. Yeah, we know it's fake -- but I'd be damned if I didn't feel like a 5 year old thinking it was real, even if it was just for a moment. I'm sure there are some holier than thou types who will disagree and say they say it coming all along, but that silence in the superdome was the sound of an arena full of people who, for that brief moment, all suspended their disbelief when the ref counted 1...2...3. I find it entertaining when the script calls for some sort of breaking of the 4th wall, and this was the pitch perfect way of them executing it to perfection.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Adam "Colorado" CurryDecember 28, 2014 at 2:17 PM

Funny, Taker losing, or more the crowd's reaction, is the only moment at all that sticks out in my mind from 2014.

    ReplyDelete
  37. YankeesHoganTripleHFanDecember 28, 2014 at 2:23 PM

What I remember is JBL basically breaking character as a heel and being upset that his friend had lost. It was scripted but yeah..it was real.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I've gotten a handful of ballots so far, so we're "building momentum." If some people don't feel like e-mailing and don't care if their votes are secret, I suppose you can also post them in the thread here. Just make sure to follow the format of listing your top three if you want your vote to count. We don't need any hanging chads!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hmmm... The list of match candidates that I can think of off the top of my head is...
-Money in the Bank Ladder Match (I need to watch)
-Daniel Bryan vs. Triple, Wrestlemania XXX
-Daniel Bryan vs. Batista vs. Randy Orton, Wrestlemania XXX
-The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family, Elimination Chamber (I need to watch)
-The Shield vs. Evolution Elimination match
-Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena, Last Man Standing
-Team Cena vs. Team Authority, Survivor Series
-Sami Zayn vs. Adrian Neville, REvolution (I need to rewatch)
-Sami Zayn vs. Antonio Cesaro, NXT ArRival (I need to rewatch)

If I remember correctly it began innocent enough and there were actually some T shirt ideas and blueprints tossed around then he started bragging about being friends with the fat guy from siskel and Ebert even though hes been dead for years. Then the word "otters" turned heel because he invented it (I think). Regardless, it has its history here.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Even though I just butchered his name.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thats the problem though. People like him and Khali probably are but they wrestle at times when everyone goes and does other things besides watching them. With kane amd Big show it's unavoidable because they're usually in the main event. You cant exactly skip over the last match of The Survivor Series, for example.
