Network Show - VH1 I Love... Style

Hi Scott,

I hope you're doing well. The BoD is influential and gets ideas out there, so what are your thoughts about a new WWE Network show in the style of VH1's old "I Love the 80s/90s"?? They can easily pull out every year of the modern era (80s, 90s, 00s) and have current/past stars comment on that particular year with clips shown from all their content. For example, "I Love 1991" -- Have superstars choose favorite angles from all of the promotions that year, worst angles, best new gimmicks, biggest flops, etc. It feels like this type of show writes itself; they own the footage, and it is technically NEW programming. VH1, years ago, re branded itself with these types of shows and it brought in great ratings (it eventually led to Bret Michael's type reality shows though; so that's the bad).  Your thoughts??

Come on now, Bret Michaels Rock of Love was great trashy fun.

As for that idea, I love it.  Hopefully they could resist the temptation to make every episode about the Attitude Era, but it's exactly the kind of fresh take on the talking head and recycled footage formula that would be fun.  I can see Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder being all over this kind of thing.

  1. It's a shame Punk's gone because this style of show with Punk, Jericho, and Ziggler popping up all the time would rule.

  2. That's a fantastic idea! I'd watch that in a heartbeat. They should totally do it. I mean, John Cena and Chris Jericho are already on the VH1 "I Love the [X]" shows. They could do worse than lifting VH1's entire output. "Rock of Love" with Batista or Randy Orton. "Celeb Rehab" with DDP as the guy trying to get everyone off drugs. "Behind the Spandex: Hulk Hogan." They could even do a pop-up video for the various WWE-related music videos like "Stand Back." Make it happen!

  5. I love the idea, but I guess my concern is, there's only so much history to mine, and wrestling fans aren't getting any younger.

I think if the WWE were Smart they're expand themselves beyond their history and try and use the network to do cliched things with WWE people -

Why not a WWE Top Gear. A WWE movie review show.

Remember that WWE BurnRate thingy? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wyw3lJVToT1jNK8Sjqbv_7qrhLik0DT4m0JyKkeMuV8/edit?usp=sharing

History is great, but history isn't fresh, really.

Plus pretty much every WWE Show does that sort of talking head thing.

Pop Up Video: WWE PPV edition could be cool!

  6. "Pop Up Video: WWE PPV edition could be cool!"

Or depressing. The popups would all be "this guy is dead," "this guy is dead," "this guy is dead..."

  7. I'm of the mind that any of this extra stuff on the network that WWE does(countdown, VH1 I love the 90's, MNW) it sweetens the pot but I won't bring in new viewers. The only thing that's increasing Network subs is a better product. Simply, make people want to spend $9.99 to watch your monthly PPV and more people will do it.

I wanted to watch the NXT show and I paid $9.99 to do so. I thought I'd give TLC a shot, and I paid $9.99 to do so. Put on better shows and convince more people to pay.

  8. I would absolutely watch this show. In a sucker for the I Love the [insert decade here] shows.

  9. Don't forget "Flavor of Love" with The Godfather!

Or Ernest Miller. Or Slick Johnson. Or Teddy Long. Fuck it, make it rotating black wrestlers per season!

  10. How was 12 angry men?

  11. I Love 1991 would have to feature a segment on Furface or whatever the hell that Brutus Beefcake deal was. It would just have to.

  12. Can anyone who can get through the pay wall confirm if this tidbit regarding Del Rio signing with ROH is true.

"Meltzer said ROH only spoke to him because they heard TNA were talking to him and were able to make him a better offer."

  13. They somewhat did this with the Countdown show.

  14. Rock of love was awesome.

  15. Wasn't in the Observer this week and I haven't heard him say that on the radio show.

  16. Alright. I trust your word over most random people from the Internet, so until further notice I'll file it under "most likely bullshit"

  17. Nothing like trashy, drunk blondes conspiring against each other. Didn't they have a couple of pornstars on there, too?

  18. Question: Was HBK's character based on Bret Michaels? There are a lot of similarities there. The look, attitude, name, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So, basically copying Kayfabe Commentaries' timeline series, but with Vince's approval and rights to show matches. I'd watch.

  20. Was there a music video produced for Randy Savage's "Be a Man?"

  21. In still waiting for austin or anyone other greats to do commentary on their their matches like austin did on his podcast...is love to know what Goldberg are lesnar views on their wm20 match are..serious note imagine flair and steamboat commentating over their clash match

  22. He was probably calling himself Shawn Michaels before Poison were well known, probably just a coincidence... although it does give me the idea for an 80's hair metal type wrestler calling himself Shawn Hart.

  23. That show sucks

  24. I was an unabashed fan of Rock of Love. Nothing like overly-Botoxed cougars, porn stars, and people looking for their 15 minutes of fame going at it once a week. If WWE was like that, I'd still be watching Raw every week.

  25. A Penthouse pet won it the third year, which I think was the last season they did. I also remember some blonde named Megan who did Playboy and Beauty and the Geek (another "entertaining crap" type show), and they tried to give her her own spinoff...except one of the last guys left turned into a murderer right as the season debuted. Whoops.

  26. Megan was the biggest c*nt I've ever seen on television.

  27. I want a Flavor/Rock of Love style game show featuring WWE Legends as eligible bachelors. Mean Gene is the host. Season 2 features Pat Patterson and a host of young Indy wrestlers "vying for a spot."

  28. Although you could argue that the character had been changing for some time, IMO, this interview was when Shawn's title reign started to go downhill, even though he was more than 2 months away from winning the title. Not only was he pandering to the crowd (partly through Vince), but he allowed the chickenshit heel manager to dictate the terms about getting to the wrestler whom Shawn should want to do a major number on. Imagine what 1997 Stone Cold would have done in a similar situation? Oh wait, he fought back from nearly being paralyzed to get at him ('97 Survivor Series). Gee, I wonder who more fans would get behind?
Draw-wise, it was all downhill from there.

  29. Nah, a lot of what was HBK. I've seen a lot of the Observers at the time
