NXT question

Hello Scott, I was wondering who you think has the best future in WWE
out of the current NXT stars? It seems like they have such a great
group right now that it would be a shame to see them get ruined after
getting called up to the so-called big leagues. Just curious to hear
your thoughts. Thanks.

If she's handled correctly, Charlotte.  Since that probably won't happen, we all know that the guy who they're probably gonna push the shit out of is gonna be Baron Corbin.

  1. ***** for Zayn/Neville? High praise.

I personally don't know if I would go that high but everything from the pre-match package to the post-match best down was simple and extremely well done. Beautifully executed pro wrestling.

In Layman's terms: that match was the shit.

  2. She was given the chance to showcase herself in a way that she will never get on the main roster, that's the difference.

And after watching Zayn/Neville a few days after everyone had been praising it I gotta say it lived up to the hype. Seeing the fans so passionate about the win was something I haven't seen in years and was probably my highlight of the year. And I'm not even a long time fan, only ever seen him in nxt.

  3. Fuck. It is gonna be Corbin.

At least until Vince doesn't know what SOA is and makes him the Captain of the WWE Universe's Love Boat.

  4. The guy I see having the most success would be Zayn. Fans today, more than ever, respond to workrate and guys can get over just by having great matches.

Dolph stayed over despite shitty booking because he had a bunch of awesome matches. Cesaro got over because he was having kickass matches around Mania and performing crazy feats of strength. Simply put, I think Zayn is the best all around wrestler in NXT and thus I think he can survive any potential shitty booking he may face and get over by virtue of having great matches. He's also got an amazing ability to connect with the audience that can help too.

Balor would be my second choice.

  5. I'd be fine with not seeing any of them get called up. Ever. Not when midcard geek purgatory awaits them.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Would you even want to be called up at this point? Going from an environment where everyone is into it and you could put on great matches, to wrestling four minute matches in front of a crowd of people sat on their hands? No thanks.

  7. Charlotte?

She's so wooden. Non interesting offence and can't really sell. What future awaits a woman in WWE anyway? Most male members of roster advance higher than them.

The obvious answer is Balor. Chad Gable has everything but height sadly.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Money and fame. Thought that would be obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I would hazard a guess and say a lot of the wrestlers want more than that. But I could be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  10. If the biggest potential is with a woman, then we're in a good bit of trouble when this class graduates.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Bitches be terrible! They should go back to the kitchen, AMIRITE?!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Corbin is one of those boring, muscle guys.

    So yes, it'll be Corbin.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The whole match and angle was extremely well done. Even for people like yourself with no longtime emotional connection it was simple enough and connects on a human level to where it could immediately get you invested. Plus, it was just awesome wrestling and who doesn't love that?

    ReplyDelete
  14. As long as it's a guy who's flippy moves are kept to a minimum, Mister_E is happy.

    Flips are lower midcard.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It was a great match that I had at ****1/2 originally, but now Scott is making me want to go back and watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The whole "crowd counting gimmick" seems like one of those things that an NXT crowd has decided to play along with that a RAW crowd won't. Plus I could see Goldberg chants in his future if they keep the same kind of push he's gotten in NXT.

    ReplyDelete
  17. What about flops?

    ReplyDelete
  18. That ruling is not Fair to Flair.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The Boss was definitely the Boss at Takeover. She was awesome, and I hope they let her keep doing her thing and continue to improve. She could be consistently awesome given the right opponent.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought of that after I typed it. I'll allow a Fair to Flair exception.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, he's also pretty generic. And isn't his finisher pretty damn close to Sister Abigail? That's kind of silly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Only if they're marks for themselves. This business is about money.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He does have a pretty swank vest though. That wolf on the back is main event worthy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You think they got into THIS BUSINESS to wrestle in front of a hot crowd and have good matches? Are you 8 years old? What a fucking joke. They want money and fame. They are entertainers. Jesus Christ. That's the dumbest thing I've read on the blog in a long time. You sir. Are an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I really enjoy Sasha's Rihanna knockoff music. Fits her perfect. But all the NXT music is great.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Poor DARIN Corbin. :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's quite possibly the dumbest comment I've ever read. They aren't doctors saving lives. THEY ARE PRETENDING TO FIGHT! They got into this for money and some type of fame. To think anything else is so delusional I hope this guy has a serious brain malady and isn't allowed to drive. That person needs to be sterilized.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I actually hope Corbin, Dempsey, Big Cass, the Ascension, etc all get over so it reflects well on NXT in Vince's eyes. plus i generally like those guys. Owens and Balor will get over no matter what, Zayn will be well liked but seen as a midcard kind of act, Neville's ceiling is the Evan Bourne/Paul London/ Billy Kidman midcard high flyer spot but he'll pop crowds with the Red Arrow. Tyler Breeze ain't gonna amount to shit, the Divas will all just be Divas, both Lucha Dragons will get lost in the shuffle, the Vaudevillains will never make ot to the main roster with that gimmick but English might get paired with Fandango. I like everyone i just named, this is just me being a realist. No one in this group is gonna jump to the front of the line and be champs but they will all get over to some degree.

The full monty for Neville-Zayn? I'm not sure I'd go that high, but it's certainly the best thing the WWE has done since WrestleMania, and is really one of the few rivalries that developed over a title, free and clear of authority tropes, which makes it a throwback to a bygone era. I will admit that my appreciation for the match grows with each viewing.

  30. Corbin's not bald and he's not nearly as jacked up as Goldberg, so I don't think he'll get those chants.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'll second Petrock and say decaf may be a wise idea.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, considering the average income of someone with an NXT contract is like $25,000.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've been a fan of The Boss since her days as Mercedes KV and I'm very happy she's getting some well-deserved shine. Of course I have zero faith that she'll be used properly when she gets called up so I'm just enjoying her NXT stuff for now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Such a sweetie.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The guy is a moron.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Corbin is just awful. He doesn't look like much of anything.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Zayn is so incredibly good that he's gonna have a similar career trajectory to Bret, Punk, and Bryan - a guy that "has some buzz", is initially thought of as having a ceiling of being a midcarder, and then eventually gets pushed to the top because there's just no denying his talent and popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What does any of this have to do with Ray Traylor?

    ReplyDelete
  39. No you fuck off jabroni

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow, the full monty. Time for a rewatch. It's in my top five for the year with Bryan/HHH, Cesaro/Zayn, Suzuki/Styles, Ishii/Goto.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agreed. I'd say the same about Carmella's theme - very Iggy Azalea / DJ Mustard sounding & spot on for the character

    ReplyDelete
  42. The NXT crowd kept me from enjoying the match that much. Their enthusiasm was great, but I hate the "This is Awesome!" chant or any other chant where the crowd is basically declaring "Hey, we know this is all a fake fight and you are entertaining us with your display." I want a crowd that cheers like it's a real fight that they are invested in. I'm not sure if we'll ever really get that again.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Full Monty NXT match? Someone's in the holiday spirit! (Not that I disagree)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Re: Neville Zayn...

First viewing I actually went "ugh" at the 2nd ref bump, and Zayn taking so long to decide whether or not to use the belt. On second viewing--knowing that stuff was coming--you kinda just enjoy the overall perfection of the match. The niggly bits drop away. So I see where Scott's coming from. Take the build, the match itself, post-match celebration and Owens angle... it's all a ***** affair, and one of WWE's shining moments of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's why I love HHH / Cena from WM 22. The match is like ok-good, but the atmosphere is awesome, with the crowd just DYING for HHH to win.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Seeing as we're talking about ***** matches from this year, I don't think I've ever seen two guys so confidently, nonchalantly, and almost...easily pull off a five star match as Bryan and HHH at Mania. Walk out, good story, good heat segment, great, clean finish. Voila.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I can't go *quite* 5 stars on Neville/Zayn. ****1/2, maybe ****3/4. It just needed a slightly more epic finish. A Neville kickout of the kick that ended it and two more minutes of a finishing sequence, and it's an easy 5 stars for me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Totally agree. I don't think anyone but the most ardent HHH haters didn't think it would be good to great, but the ease with which they put on a near-perfect match was pretty incredible. They had a chemistry that Punk and HHH, for whatever reason, just didn't quite have.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Eh, enthusiasm is enthusiasm. Kayfabe isn't coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Completely agree. I dont mind chanting but it was non stop throughout the whole show. A bit too much.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I never heard of any of those people!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Feud of the year for 2014 is the debate in my head about whether Sasha is pretty or not. At some angles, absolutely....at others, nope.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ah, but was it better than T-Hawk & Eita vs. Jimmy Susumu & Jimmy Kagetora?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Not to mention that instead of having one of those WWE "epics" with like ten finisher kickouts, they kept it free of the melodrama and had the single Pedigree kickout. Not that I'm not a fan of the aforementioned epics sometimes, but I was pleasantly surprised by the understated route they took.

Plus the post-match stuff with Bryan clutching his injured, chair-struck arm surrounded by a fleet of concerned referees, with HHH on the ramp muttering "no happy ending" at the enraged, booing crowd was awesome.
