Tag Tournament Blocks I-P RESULTS

Mostly as expected, although I thought the super-patriot team of Hogan and Edge would destroy Sheik and Volkoff, which is not what ended up happening.  Some mighty routs in this group, but also some surprisingly close ones, with the US Express getting upset in something of a surprise to me.

More first round matches later tonight!

Comments

  1. Not surprised, even some genuine hardcore fans seem to have all but forgotten the US Express even existed.

I would have been absolutely shocked if the US Express had won over BoD darlings Hell No.

And so far, the Quebecers have the most votes of any team that's appeared. That's amazing.

  3. "Quick, name something more people would rather see Sean Morley do than John Cena!"
"Shut the fuck up about Libertarians?"
"No, som...you know what, good enough."

Can't see how people could vote for Sheik and Volkoff over Hogan/Edge. Sheik/Volkoff were never really taken seriously and had a cup of coffee as tag champs. Hogan and Edge were each individually highly ranked singles stars which should have translated into a win for them.

You know what? Fuck it, it's a fake tournament.

I never heard Windham and Rotundo ever billed as "The US Express" in anything I've ever seen them in. When Rotundo teamed with Spivey is when I started hearing that moniker.

  11. I always wondered how Iron Sheik went from a main event threat and ending Backlund's 6 year as a champion to a guy that had little credibility as tag team champion in a span of a year.

Iron Sheik only had a month as champion himself. That's like....a four day title reign converted into 2015 title currency.

  13. The Sheik was booked to look weak. He had to Pearl Harbor Backlund to get the win. And Bob didn't submit; his manager did for him. A heel that practically stole the belt from Backlund. Honkey Tonk Man would be a good analogy. To me at least. A tainted win for a gimmick wrestler designed to make the fans hate him and be in anticipation for the other guy to take the belt from him. He was never considered a true threat. He was the definition of Transitional Champion.

  14. Rotundo & Spivey were the "American Express". Like the credit card.

  15. They were slightly before my time as a fan. When I came in around 86 the Spivey version was the US Express so that's what I associate them with.
