Update on TNA Live PPV's and House Shows

Presently, TNA does not have any plans to run house shows in the near future as the company wants to improve it's television product. TNA President Dixie Carter has confirmed that the company will hold a few live PPV's throughout the year.

WWE Adding New Content to the Network

The WWE will soon be adding episodes of "Tough Enough" to the network. No word on the exact date this will happen.

Also, I forgot to mention that the 2008 WWE Blue Timeline with Brian Myers (Curt Hawkins) won the shoot interview poll by three votes over the 1963-69 WWE Timeline with Bruno Sammartino. That review will be posted on Thursday at noon.

Comments

  1. The 2008 WWE Blue Timeline won by three votes, you sure there wasn't any shenanigans with the vote?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Why would there be?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I did the Tough Enough addition, though the first season and the Stone Cold season a few years ago are the only ones I really would watch again.

    ReplyDelete
  4. TNA House Shows. Never Forget.

The month of January is so boring.

    ReplyDelete
  6. At a Grizzlies game the main event of Fast Lane was advertised as Cena & Reigns vs. Big Show & Rollins..

    ReplyDelete
  7. Considering recent events on this blog who knows. :D

    ReplyDelete
  8. Matt_INDEED's ZOMBIEJanuary 12, 2015 at 7:11 AM

That sounds like quite the abortion of a main event.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Point taken with the photo, but shouldn't it be the other way around? That you put your energy into the house shows so more people watch your TV show?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ha, I forgot all about the IC Title voting stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh good. Tough Enough. Just what we have been craving... a show so fucking bad that MAVEN was the best thing to come out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. In wrestling or just in general?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Maven, I got his shoot interview. That is about all I can say about him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. You trying to say that Linda Miles isn't talented?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I bet not a day goes buy that he doesn't tell his co-workers at the Dairy Barn about how he once eliminated the Undertaker from the Royal Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  16. MAH Bad.

I guess Jackie Gayda was nice to look at.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Both to me anyway

    ReplyDelete
  18. He got busted for drugs a few years ago and was on the Surreal life too. BIG STAR, FOLKS

    ReplyDelete
  19. No, that's Raw.
Any Raw. For like the next six months.
I tell ya, I've watched every PPV of the Network Era so far, and even the bad ones are fun to watch, mostly. If that's the main event of a PPV, though, I really see myself skipping that one.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Outside of the Rumble I agree about wrestling... in general it sucks also... I live in a tourist area so January is by far the most lifeless time of year.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think if your TV’s awesome, people will
want to come to your shows. I know Bischoff culled house shows from WCW for a
while in the early 90s because they were just losing money. If they’re losing
money TNA shouldn’t run them. I think it’s probably a good idea. They’re not
going to be running many shows though. I think the 3 UK shows at the end of
January cover all TV up until mid-March.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And WWE Wrestling so far has been brutal to say the least. Unless you are interested in the trainwreck promos from Reigns.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I loved the first season of the original run, but it's been so long I don't know if I'd still like it. I don't think I ever bothered with the rest.
The Stone Cold version on USA a few years ago, though, was great TV.

    ReplyDelete
  24. How anyone who has ever had any amount of celebrity isn't smart enough to build that into a life long source of revenue is beyond me.

I heard young MC once say that sometimes he gets frustrated at being a one hit wonder because he feels he got a lot better as a rapper but no one ever cared... but at the same time he admitted he hasn't had to have a real job in 20+ years because of that song so he is still grateful.

    ReplyDelete
  25. SUFFERIN' SUCCOTASH on them uploading Tough Enough. BUT STILL NO WCW SATURDAY NIGHT. :(

    ReplyDelete
  26. I only caught a few episodes of the Stone Cold version, but it did seem like it was a bit better quality.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 've missed the last couple weeks so I can't really comment either way... but the Rumble is always fun so I am looking forward to that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I wonder if this is an attempt to see if Network viewers are interested in TE too see if it is worth it to do the show again.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think that's ever coming. And certainly the lower shows never will. Have they even put up a Nitro past December 96 yet?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, it has its advantages and disadvantages. But a one-hit wonder can make you set for life financially unless you are a complete moron.

    ReplyDelete
  31. TNA doing what WCW did, removing money losing house shows.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Rumble match is one of those things that no matter how bad the product, I take joy in watching. It was also the last PPV I purchased before the network

    ReplyDelete
  33. Other than John Morrison, all of the TE winners have been complete busts.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Smart business move. No point running shows if you can't sell tickets or make money.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah, I have a feeling my enjoyment of the MTV version isn't going to hold up.
One of the dudes that was eliminated because of injury from the Stone Cold version, Martin something or other, could've been a star. I wonder what ever happened to that dude and why he never got another look from them (if he didn't, he might've gotten another tryout for all I know) like past Tough Enough losers like Morrison eventually did.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh I forgot about JoMo... I guess Miz technically came from TE also.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Or you could be Scott Stapp. Jeremy Botter used to tell me hilarious stories about meeting Creed and how douchy they were on tour, so there's a certain karma in his downfall.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I thought Morrison didn't win?

    ReplyDelete
  39. No he and that kid that got brain cancer won I think.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, that's right, he co-won with Matt Cappotelli.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Stapp is mental though. That was inevitable.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Difference with Bischoff is WCW was on a major cable network with nationwide clearance. The first show on DA attracted 350k. If you're going to use TV to build your company, then use TV to build the house shows, just like the old days. I don't know where else the money is coming in from.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Matt Capotelli, the guy Bob Holly beat the fuck out of on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  44. God I have heard nothing but horror stories about what an asshole he is... Creed and 311 played at the House Of Blues here on consecutive days a few years back and he was being such a dick they ended up getting into a fight.

    ReplyDelete
  45. MikeyMike, JuggernautJanuary 12, 2015 at 7:25 AM

There isn't anything worse than that Andy loser than won the most recent season.

    ReplyDelete
  46. God Bob Holly is such a piece of shit... I was so happy when he got future endeavored.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Josh Matthews, too. He was the runner-up to Maven, wasn't he?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I posted this last night in the live thread but it got buried:
    http://www.impactwrestling.com/EVENTS/United-Kingdom-Tour

TNA is STILL advertising Bully Ray as being on the UK tour on their website even though he has no contract with the company (he's listed as an "alumni" on the roster site), Bully Ray has made no indication that he will be on the tour, and he obviously wasn't part of the latest taping cycle that leads into the UK tour.

    What gives?

    ReplyDelete
  49. They’re just gonna live off whatever money
DA gives them until DA has had enough, I presume, just like under Spike. With
no house shows, and TV’s being taped in clusters of several at a time, with
tapings really far apart, I feel like they’re just faking being a proper national
    wrestling promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah, what a waste. There were two or three dudes who could really go in that group, and he wasn't one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I know that for the most part TNA has been bad, but that photo just bums me out to no end. I really, really want them to be successful, but they still seem to wanna be WWE-lite (at least last time I watched) rather than a true alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Fuck, look at Virgil. That guy was barely even a wrestler and he still apparently makes a living by signing one autograph every six months.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Looks like they're a glorified ROH, which is a shame because we really need an viable alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Not sure, but he was on the show. Miz was a runner up to that guy that almost subbed Angle also.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Cena vs Orton,one more timeJanuary 12, 2015 at 7:30 AM

    #justTNAthings

    ReplyDelete
  56. Miz was a runner-up but he was the one the WWE wanted so he was kept around while the winner, Daniel Puder was never given a fair chance.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Scott Stapp? He's not doing too well these days: http://www.tmz.com/2014/12/15/scott-stapp-911-calls-audio-mental-health//?adid=TMZ_Search_Results

    ReplyDelete
  58. Puder apparently had heat from the beginning IIRC... a lot of people never got passed him shooting on Angle I think.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Maybe it's just that I hardly ever watch it, or that anything is palatable compared to recent Raws, but I got around to watching last week's Impact a couple days ago and actually liked it for the most part.
I like the way Impact is generally produced/presented on TV and there's enough good workers that, in a bubble, any individual episode of it is watchable enough. But I know by now that if I try to watch more than couple in a row, it quickly becomes more unwatchable than the worst nonsense Raw can fart out.

    ReplyDelete
  60. MikeyMike, JuggernautJanuary 12, 2015 at 7:33 AM

True. Well, worst male to win. And then we still have a debate there.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Don McLean's common response to the question "what does American Pie mean?" is "It means I don't ever have to work again if I don't want to."

    ReplyDelete
  62. Tough Enough, eh? Place your bets on how many times the "groundbreaking" HHH guest trainer bit is pumped up on Raw! The line is ∞. Take the over. Other than the women's season were there more than two who ended up sticking?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Who would've thought that when Big Show debuted at the February 1999 PPV that he would be in the main event of the February 2015 PPV?

    ReplyDelete
  64. It’s possible that Alumni thing is just TNA’s
usual sad trying to work people thing and Ray will be there. They haven’t been
too bad about false advertising for the UK tour, never mentioning Jeff Hardy
for one and then going to all the trouble of this injury angle to make sure
people knew for definite he wouldn’t be there.

    ReplyDelete
  65. My favorite thing about Scott Stapp: how he claims the rapper TI saved his life from a suicide attempt and they then bonded over their mutual love of Bama football.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Not sure if it was posted on here this weekend but did anyone see the ridiculous bump Jeff Hardy took in the cage match last week? Holy shit.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oooooh....Tough Enough! Re-up my network subscription for another five decades!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Has any of the UK crew ever been to a TNA taping here? There’s
loads of tickets available and I kinda want to go for the story, but don’t
really want to pay that much. You know, because of the poor quality of the
entertainment. Do they ever paper over here, or be able to pick up cheap
    tickets outside?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Matt_INDEED's ZOMBIEJanuary 12, 2015 at 7:40 AM

Yeah, I'll probably watch the Rumble on the Network, mute the entire PPV on my smart phone while watching something else. Then watch the Rumble match, see Reigns win it, and go to sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  70. ...WILL YOU STOP

    ReplyDelete
  71. Tough Enough Season 3 contestant Lisa was removed from the show after what was referred to as a "psychotic breakdown." After being left at the house while the other contestants went out to dinner, she began throwing herself against the walls of the house, eventually breaking into the hidden MTV control room and working her way onto the roof. After being talked down by producers, she was committed to a hospital facility to receive psychiatric treatment. Her parents flew in from New Mexico to pick her up, but she physically attacked them, claiming she did not know them. She then escaped custody inside LAX, shutting down a wing of the airport until she was located. Again, she was hospitalized, but she was able to check herself out shortly after. She then contacted Tough Enough producers, claiming she was ready to return to the show. Producers informed her she had been removed from the competition due to her actions. The other contestants (and, subsequently, the audience) were initially told that Lisa simply decided wrestling "wasn't the right career for her." Lisa then reemerged in Louisville, Kentucky at the Ohio Valley Wrestling training center, claiming that trainer Al Snow and producer John "Big" Gaburick had sent her for additional training, both in the ring and to learn further about the structure of the developmental territory system. At a series of shows in California in September 2002, she managed to talk her way backstage and was even allowed to assist with the pyrotechnics for the wrestlers' entrances at a TV taping. One source claimed that she had a face-to-face conversation with Vince McMahon, who was apparently unaware of her status with the Tough Enough program. Soon after, her photograph was circulated to security personnel, and she was barred from any backstage areas.

    Fucking Awesome!

Okay, I keep seeing this "SUFFERIN' SUCCOTASH" meme line around here lately. Did I miss something this week? Keep in mind, I haven't watched even a second of WWE programming.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I remember that.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Reigns used it in part of his promo on Smackdown Friday

    ReplyDelete
  75. Good point. Didn't TNA once advertise Hardy as part of a UK tour when they damn well knew he wouldn't be able to enter the country?

  88. Matt_INDEED's ZOMBIEJanuary 12, 2015 at 7:50 AM

You would think after nearly 40 years, Vince would realize the right amount of push on a new guy so that the audience doesn't hate him, but he still struggles with that to this day.

    ReplyDelete
  89. How about the story that Pro Wrestling Syndicate debuted its new weekly show on a local channel here in NYC (WLNY) at 4:30-5:30 AM. It attracted 164k viewers, only 99k less than TNA's premiere of Impact on Destination America, which was on a network in half the homes in the U.S. in prime time on Wednesday.

Anyone know if there was any follow up on that story?

Alvarez summed it up nicely: "Every generation that comes along is different from the one that came before it, and the same thing goes for your top star in WWE. In order for your new top star to be a top star he's gotta be different from the guy that came before him. Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart were nothing like Hulk Hogan. You know who was a lot like Hulk Hogan? The Ultimate Warrior, and guess what? It didn't work. Y'know who was very different from pretty boy Shawn Michaels...Stone Cold Steve Austin, the badass. And you know who was very different from Stone Cold, was The Rock. And you know who was different from The Rock, was John Cena...although Cena wasn't quite different ENOUGH from The Rock, and that's why [he] hasn't really gotten over to the degree that other long term big time stars have gotten over in the past. The moral of the story is, if you wanna make Roman Reigns your next guy, it's fucking EASY. Reigns is nothing like Cena, but Vince is trying REALLY hard to make him into the next John Cena."

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  144. All this time wasting on Reigns when there's a perfectly good Hulk Hogan right there in Hulk Hogan, primed and ready to go.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Tough Enough, but not WCW Saturday Night or the rest of the Nitros or some Mid-South. If they wanted new WWE content where are the original WWF Superstars or more house shows, etc. At this point it's obvious they're interested only in presenting content that can add a category and not fill up that category. WCCW hasn't been updated in almost a year now...

Save for the whole exploding-into-a-fine-red-mist-if-he-ever-tries-to-actually-wrestle-again thing.

  147. They already did that with Crash Holly (rip)

  148. 2015 Hulk Hogan is primed and ready to go for a one or two-shot special attraction style match, probably to win the belt and then lose it to Cena (which is definitely in the works at this point). He's not the guy to carry the company, obviously.

They make movies, they don't do that RASSLIN' stuff. Coming this summer to the Network...the XFL!

  151. I'm wearing scarlet and grey today.

Benefit of being on the West Coast: the game starts at 5:30 here and RAW comes on at 8:00 so I can watch both. Win.

  152. That's not what he said on Jericho's podcast and the many interviews he's done over the past year.

  153. The red most is DANGEROUS!

  154. Is there any reason why WWE is so slow to roll out content from their archives? Especially with RAWs and Smackdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Bix reported they did a 0.2 which was less than 15k households. The other numbers were apparently made up.

  163. Who did a 0.2 - TNA or PWS?

    ReplyDelete
  164. Ah is it one of those things where people extrapolated the 0.2 rating as if the show aired nationally?

That'll bring in the second attitude era.

  166. Did you know Hogan used to do the axe bomber?

    ReplyDelete
  167. Remember when the WWE would actually make an effort to compete with this stuff? Now they either say "fuck it, no one's watching tonight so let's mail it in," or they do a normal episode but have Michael Cole talk to the camera and say how lame football is and anyone who is watching that game is a loser.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Still not available in 3/4 of Canada!

It amuses me to no end that Alberta will be one of the last places on the planet earth to have access to the WWE Network.

  169. It's not even really subject to debate that Roman was the most over Shield member by far at one point. He did it naturally by saying very little and them just setting him up as an intimidating asskicker.

So if your idea is for him to face Brock at Wrestlemania, that should pretty much write itself. Both these guys want to beat the hell out of each other. Brock is arrogant and a little weasely with Heyman so he's the heel. Roman's straightforward.

And then they just invest their time in making sure this guy can wrestle a match that meets the expectations.

He didn't need his personality redefined. They gradually could have had his personality adapt to different things based on the different challenges/heels he faced.

  170. I know AJ loves what she does but you'd think she'd have an easier time just leaving WWE to be at home at Punk. She'd make a killing working indie and comic shows on the weekends.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I'm shocked at how much time she takes off and how the WWE is seemingly fine with that. The barely allow talent to take a honeymoon yet she got a few months to be with Punk when they got engaged.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Bill Barnwell thinks Rodgers played like his old self in the second half yesterday, which I suppose is true if "old self" means throwing short and watching Devante Adams run through the Cowboys defense.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I wonder if they're reluctant to really lay the hammer down on her because they view her as a future bridge to talking to Punk again down the road. Whatever happens with his UFC thing, there is at least a big money match, if not full program, down the road if they can ever get him to play ball again.

Keeping relations amicable with the wife is as good an in to that as anything.

    ReplyDelete
  174. McNabb thinks the Colts are winning against New England, the team who has beaten the shit out of Luck the last few times they have played.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Given how little effort they put into anyone who isn't on Total Divas, they probably didn't even notice she had left.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I can see that but I am under the belief that Punk is never coming back to the WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  177. This is a far better and realistic answer than my snarky reply below. He could probably get over some of the stuff that happened over time, but I don't think he'd forgive them screwing with his wife.

    ReplyDelete
  178. That isn't happening. The Colts had a specific game plan for beating Denver that can't be replicated against New England.

    ReplyDelete
  179. And someone pays that man to analyze football.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Did he not see New England run the ball down their throat earlier this year?

    ReplyDelete
  181. Then again, he didn't know how overtime worked either.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I think he believes that.

But, he basically had three gripes with the company.
    1) Creative/His booking/Money: Ok, well this is kind of a non-issue. If he ever plays ball again, he's going to be the top of the card draw. But doing what he did and now doing UFC he essentially elevated himself above everyone else. And for him to play ball, he'll expect to be paid and WWE will want to pay him this time.

    2) Health: He's never going to work a full schedule again, so that's not as big an issue.

    3) The wedding issue: This is the biggest one and the only true personal one. And again, if his wife is working there for the next few years without issue, on a certain level you would think that anger would subside over time. It's strange to hold that type of grudge for so long when your wife seems to hold no ill will over it. Now, if she bolts immediately at the end of her contract, then that tells me something.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I don't understand why more teams didn't run screens against the Cowboys all season. They simply could not defend them well. They either couldn't get off their blocks or over pursued every single time.

    ReplyDelete
  184. When Jonas Gray runs for 200 against you, its telling.

    ReplyDelete
  185. "Tough Enough," huh? Perfect.

Now all those non-brass-ring-grabbing millennials will be able to watch Triple H's "BUSINESS" punk-out 24 hours a day until they're ready to work WWE style, dammit!

    ReplyDelete
  186. Steve Perry managed my buddy's band out in Cali. My friend was telling me a story about how they were out at dinner one night and they were giving Perry shit about that awful song, "Oh Sherry". Steve finally snapped and said, "Oh Sherry is paying for your fucking dinner right now."

    ReplyDelete
  187. The main reason the Ravens had no problem scoring on NE is because they were able to run the ball so effectively. No way the Colts can run that way.

This is one of those games where if the Pats score first it's over.

    ReplyDelete
  188. There's really nothing left to do with her. She's been a heel. She's been a face. She's been a valet. She's been a champion. She's even been the freakin' GM!

She's young and in all likelihood, financially stable. Might as well try something different like acting or whatever. It seems like they're already zipping in Paige in that "alternative" diva spot.

    ReplyDelete
  189. To be fair, Punk seems like a guy that holds grudges.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Yep. It's back to reality after the festive, relaxed month of December. I always find it hard to get back into the groove until at least halfway through the month.

  191. A long, long time ago before I understand how US TV ratings worked, I was always baffled by the HUGE ratings wrestling in Memphis was doing and how nobody seemed to care. It’d just be buried deep in some news round up that “Memphis did a 5.1 rating this past week”.
