BoD Daily Update

Backstage Reaction to This Past Monday's RAW

The entire script of RAW was re-written at 3pm EST on Monday. Also, the reaction to the show backstage was negative as many felt that the ending left Ryback, Erick Rowan, and especially Dolph Ziggler were left in a bad spot after the firing angle.

Meeting Reportedly Held With Talent Backstage Prior to RAW

It has been reported that Triple H held a meeting backstage prior to the show Monday night where they told the talents that the company is not sure who will win the Royal Rumble match or the title at WrestleMania 31. He also told the talent that they would be evaluated over the course of the next few weeks and to step things up. Also, there has reportedly been a lot of divide backstage on who should win the Rumble match, with Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan being the two choices.

Update on 2015 WWE Hall of Fame Class

According to PWInsider.com, Randy Savage is currently being considered as the top candidate for the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Another name being discussed is Ray Stevens, who has a history of wrestling in California. As far as Sting, he is not being considered for this year but rather for next year's show as he does live in Texas.

One Reason Why Dolph Ziggler Lost the Intercontinental Title

According to Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com, one reason why Ziggler lost the IC Title is that the office was upset with him for booking a stand-up comedy gig without notifying the office first.

  1. Well it's a good thing Dolph booked that stand up comedy gig since he's been fired. That's forsight.

  2. Lol I don't get this company at all.

  4. "...as many felt that the ending left Ryback, Erick Rowan, and especially Dolph Ziggler were left in a bad spot after the firing angle."

It's good to hear that the locker room used their brains for at least a matter of 4 seconds to realize this.

    ReplyDelete
  5. So they have 20+ writers with a full week to work on the show... And it's getting entirely rewritten at 3pm on the day of the show? That is absolutely astounding. In what way is this a healthy way to run a tv show?

Although if the shows lately are being rewritten I'd hate to see the first drafts...

    ReplyDelete
  6. Theberzerker Von HUSSingtonJanuary 7, 2015 at 7:07 AM

Right, the TALENT needs to step it up. Of course. It's not the writing or the booking that's been insultingly stupid, it's all that talent not reaching for brass rings.
That and the Dolph thing...man, what a bunch of cocksuckers.

    ReplyDelete
  7. What the hell does "step things up" even mean? It's not like they're allowed to go out and do anything improvisational.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Has the morale ever been this bad backstage in WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Deliver these shitty lines with the POWER OF A LOCOMOTIVE or something.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why doesn't Vince just write the whole show himself every week? It'd be more coherent than him fudging up what a committee put together.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Not that it's a huge difference but Sting going into the HOF makes more sense in California than Texas. Sure he lives in Texas now but he was billed from Venice Beach, California for much of his career.

Again, not a big deal, if it means Savage getting in this year then semantics be damned.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm more excited to see Savage finally get what he deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  13. They'd always bring up the geography and I never thought it matters. You'd hear "Goldberg is rumoured because Mania is in Atlanta and WCW was in Atlanta". What does that matter?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I would've thought Taker is headlining in Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  15. well, he fucked a comic for awhile, I guess that's credentials enough

    ReplyDelete
  16. It doesn't matter at all because Mania weekend is filled with people from all over the country. It's a ridiculous reason to induct or not induct someone.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The talent is doing fine with what they have. If anyone needs to step it up, it's the guy giving Superman promos.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If they're upset with Ziggler, they should *keep* the IC title on him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Aside from the certain performer who is extremely popular in their hometown moreso than others(like a CM Punk in Chicago) it really doesn't make a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  20. how about the guys writing the superman promos?

    ReplyDelete
  21. You know what? Fuck Total Divas (well, chance would be a fine thing!) - the real potential ratings draw for a reality show would be to stick some hidden cameras in the creative office.

That would be the most entertaining car crash viewing ever filmed. It would be like a less realistic Parks and Recreation.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, I figured that goes without saying.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You had me at Parks and Recreation.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Ziggler stand-up situation is another example of how these guys are not treated as independent contractors.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The that thing to me about all the rewrites is that the show is always the same. Do they just rewrite it so that different midcarders lose to each other? Scratch out Naomi and write in Alicia in the obligatory diva segment? What's the point?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I hope Dolph knows they'll be writing his stand up for him.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yep. Reigns is probably more hurt than anyone by scripted promos. Some guys (Rollins in particular) thrive with them, but some guys just don't have the acting chops. And that doesn't mean they're necessarily bad promo guys; I think Reigns has shown, in limited sample size, that when allowed to be himself he's a pretty good talker.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, how is Dolph going to grab that brass ring if he doesn't stand-up?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jericho's book leads me to believe Vince would totally want to write Ziggler's stand up.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That Superman promo was the worst thing written by the WWE this year. It also didn't gel that Teings delivered it the same way the guy from Blues Clues did to the children watching that show. Basically , Reigns cut a promo for the 5 year old demographic watching RAW

    ReplyDelete
  31. Is it really fucked up that I would love to see Vince do stand up? Just once.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That was totally a last minute Vince write. It was so lazy and out of date.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, in fairness, the year just started.
They have plenty of time to write plenty of things that will be worse.

    ReplyDelete
  34. So it's January and they still don't have 31 planned out? I remember when they used to book a year in advance. My how times have changed.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just to see Vince deal with a heckler? Absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I honestly thought it might have been a deliberate troll of the audience - a reaction to him being "the new Super Cena" in-waiting.

"We know you hate Cena being Superman. So this guy's going to BE SUPERMAN, you bastards. Now give us $9.99 a month."

    ReplyDelete
  37. He did that speech at the Oxford Union a number of years back, probably at the height of the Attitude Era

    ReplyDelete
  38. http://www.solie.org/newsletter/svwn394.html

    ReplyDelete
  39. I honestly think he'd just wade in with a chair.

In fact, I have serious doubts he knows the real world actually exists outside of Wrestling Logic at all. I'd love to see him stopped by the cops, at which point he'd leap out of the car, attempt to suplex the first one he reaches and do a horizontal version of the Vince Entrance Walk when he's being tazered.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You know, Dolph kind of does stupid shit that hurts himself. I'm not saying that this isn't stupid or he shouldn't be allowed to do this, but they have given him several opportunities and he has not come through for them. I remember listening to Foley and Austin talk and Foley said he heard Dolph in an interview say that you work to the main event just to take John Cena's five moves. You can have a shitty company that doesn't push you, but he can be his own worst enemy sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Can't access that one at work, but I'll check it out later, thanks bud.

    ReplyDelete
  42. it's just a report, there's no video anywhere I don't think. He basically just talks about his life with a few "quips" thrown in.

    ReplyDelete
  43. See, I don't mind when they troll us with a low/midcard guy like Cesaro cutting a shoot-ish promo like he did last week, or a shit tag team like Ascension making the same comparisons about themselves the entire internet has already made fun of them for. At least it's something for them to do and who knows, sometimes that stuff gets someone over. Even the Authority's meta-trolling last year with Bryan was pretty brilliant stuff.
But if they're committed to Reigns being the guy- whether that means him main eventing WM31 or not, I don't know, but they clearly are committed to him being the guy long-term- that kind of shit is just toxic.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh god that white on blue color scheme is unforgiving.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Theberzerker Von HUSSingtonJanuary 7, 2015 at 7:24 AM

I think it's hilarious that everything is falling apart with Reigns purely because of how they're handling him, by insisting he read shitty scripted lines, and more than likely insisting he do the same spots over and over again in every match. Left to his own devices he could probably stay over, and smark resistance to him still being pretty green would slowly wear away. But, nope, they insist on doing it their control freak way, and in doing so they're ensuring they won't get what they want. Irony can be so ironic sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That's quite stylish for a 90s website.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I almost feel sorry for Reigns, as he seems like a nice enough guy, but he's been put into a toxic (good word) position by the bookers and it'll be very hard for him to recover from this if it all goes tits-up.

The creative team are stuck in the past and don't understand how to harness and utilise organic crowd responses. It's ironic, given that they push social media feedback on us almost constantly, that they ignore the majority of reaction from the audience at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  48. how hard is it to just send him out there and kill people?

    ReplyDelete
  49. RE: Ziggler

You know, one of the reasons CM Punk left was that he wasn't allowed to pursue outside gigs (showing up at UFC events).

I work a main job and have two side gigs. My primary employer doesn't care as long as those side gigs don't interfere with my main job. You'd think WWE would realize it's kind of a fucked up policy that their wrestlers -- who are after all, "independent contractors" -- can't book outside gigs in their spare time.

But then again, this is a company that is deathly afraid of guys pulling a Rock, Batista, Morrison, and Punk and saying "fuck this, it's not worth it to be your slave" and leaving to pursue other projects.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Once again, the lack of "managers" in the WWE brings up a big problem. Reigns should never HAVE to talk. He should turn up, through the crowd, kick arse, then leave. Be the silent force of good, but have an ally (a manager or whatever) who does the talking for him when it's needed.

I know they want their main eventers to be able to cut a 20 minute promo every week, but it's needless. The Brock Lesnar approach would have worked well for Reigns, imo.

    ReplyDelete
  51. LMAO at the Ziggler stuff. Who cares.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Theberzerker Von HUSSingtonJanuary 7, 2015 at 7:28 AM

Like Goldberg? Sorry, they don't do SOUTHERN RASSLIN' like that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. To be fair to the WWE, they have sponsors and whatnot to appease. If Ziggler's standup went down a controversial road - let's say he dropped the "n word" or something - then it would be reported as "WWE Superstar in racial slur" rather than "Stand up comic in racial slur."

So while it's a shame, I can understand why they would want to have some control over that.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Like someone said before they are independent contractors so who cares what they do on the side. If they get punished it sounds like they are WWE EMPLOYEES! without benefits and all that nice stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I really think they should just turn him heel and try again in a year on his face push.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ray Stevens was a 5'8" B+ player.

    ReplyDelete
  57. WWE: "You're not allowed to do anything without our say so!"

Ziggler: "Oh, okay. Can I get some health insurance?"

WWE: "WHAT?! You're an independent contractor!"

    ReplyDelete
  58. If Punk's comments are precedent for how to view this situation, then Ziggler is being punished because that should have been Rusev's stand-up comedy gig, goddammit!

    ReplyDelete
  59. That's true, but does any other show do this? Do Parks & Rec prevent Aziz from doing stand up?

    ReplyDelete
  60. But that's in any line of work. If you're a Harvard college professor and you do something fucked up, the headline is "Harvard College Professor does Something Fucked Up".

    ReplyDelete
  61. If only they could. ;)

A stockbroker got fired yesterday for posting a joke on Twitter saying "I hit a cyclist on the way to work, lol!" or something similar. Most places have these sort of clauses now.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yeah, and the same thing would probably stand. I imagine the Harvard bosses wouldn't be too pleased with one of their professors wanting to do stand-up, as they'd want to preserve a certain image.

From the report, it sounds more like it was the fact it was unsanctioned, rather than the fact he did it at all, so maybe it's just a case that they want to be able to veto parts of his act or something.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yes and no.

Once you sign a contract, you're contractually obligated to perform. If Aziz's other interests conflict with Parks & Rec, he has to adhere to his Parks & Rec contract first and foremost. But they have no say/don't care what he does if there's no conflict in terms of time/availability.

I remember reading that Gillian Jacobs from Community was offered something in an Apatow project but had to turn it down when Yahoo picked up Community because she's still contracted to that show.

WWE just punishing someone for doing something that doesn't affect them without telling them - that's just crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yeah, I agree. Although then they end up further into the existing problem where they have no decent, strong faces on the roster.

Plus, he'd end up feuding with a face Orton, you just know it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I once saw Sarah Silverman, he can't be any worse. The WWE is probably afraid he would badmouth them.

    ReplyDelete
  66. They never let anyone get above a certain level so some get involved in side projects to have something to fall back on and get their name out there. How dare those lazy millenials self promote themselves! They should be reaching for the brass ring!

    ReplyDelete
  67. That said, I'm sure there's a certain amount of residual BS in Hollywood that goes with choosing certain projects that's not unlike this.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am loving these Parks & Rec namedrops. Treat yoself 2 thousand 15!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm a Jean Ralphio style trendsetter, clearly ;)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well, I'm something of an Orton fan so I actually think he'd be a great sacrificial lamb for heel Reigns. Their Summerslam match was good, and I think it could be great with the face/heel roles switched (as I think Orton has better matches as a face than as a heel, and Reigns' selling problems wouldn't be as big of a deal if he's going over as the bad guy).

    ReplyDelete
  71. If a Harvard dean told a Harvard professor he couldn't do stand-up, there would probably be a major lawsuit on Harvard's hands. Of course, if the Harvard professor was doing stand-up and said something bad he could be terminated for hurt the rep of the university -- but that's only AFTER the fact. Not preemptively.

But the WWE example goes even further. I don't think you realize is that WWE wrestlers are "independent contractors". If you hire a contractor to put in a toilet in your house, you can't prevent that contractor from taking another job at the same time, even if it pisses you off that he's concentrating on another job instead of putting in your toilet because you REALLY need to take a dump. Hence the "independent" part. You could sue him after the fact if he says the job will be done, say, on the 15th and it isn't complete by the 30th, but in that case he didn't follow his contracted obligations.

This is why Punk and Del Rio were able to get their lawyers to rip the "no compete" clauses to shreds.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I saw a really good abortion comedy with the Ralphio sister in the lead recently. She was smokin'. I can't remember what it was called, or what she is called.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well, that's what it comes down to now. WWE is deathly afraid of anyone getting mainstream exposure and leaving like Rock, Batista, Punk, Jericho, and even Morrison. Nobody is allowed to be bigger than the WWE brand.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Does that also mean that technically you're homeless?

    ReplyDelete
  75. HowmuchdoesthisguyweighJanuary 7, 2015 at 7:42 AM

Mad at dolph for bettering himself? Guess they should stop doing business with the rock.

Every damn day we get some kind of report that literally boggles my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I guess it comes down to the "it's our ball" aspect then. The WWE says "you're an independent contractor, but we don't want you doing (x) if you want us giving you a payday".

They're within their rights to set conditions on his use, and he's within his rights to tell them to ram it up their arse. Difference is, he's got a lot more to lose, so the ball's in their court.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I'm actually a couple of weeks away from that, so... yeah. Hahah!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Mona Lisa Sapperstein aka Jenny Slade in reality.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Uh oh that's no good. Hopefully you're open minded as heeeeeeelllll.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm sure she popped up in something else I was watching too. Might've been "Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23" or something.

Tell you what, though - I thought her casting was amazing. When she first appeared, I thought it was him in drag!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm just frantically trying to find a new place at the moment. I don't have the rich daddy to fall back on, sadly!

  87. Me too. I'm basically Andy but without the hot girlfriend, musical ability, personality, build, joy at life, etc.

    ;)

    ReplyDelete
  88. Huh. This raises a question from me: I wonder if Reigns would work well as a Paul Heyman guy?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Purchased at a discount and taken out of his paycheck through the WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  90. "he said that Nash had really bad knees and that both Nash and Hall would
be unable to compete to the standards that the WWF requires at the
    moment"

But Nash was good enough to compete 13 years later.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The irony of the Ziggler thing is delicious. They punish the guy for basically trying to cultivate some mainstream appeal for himself (he's been working stand-up & improv, probably looking to parlay that into acting at some point) which if he's actually successful will actually boost WWE's profile since he's still a full time wrestler.

BUT, at the same time they are shamelessly trying to push themselves as mainstream entertainment looking to suck up to any D-lister that will have anything to do with them.

So what's the lesson here? They literally have no fucking clue what they're doing most of the time? Or is this some Godfather II Don Fanucci type shit where Vince has to 'wet his beak' or nobody gets anything.

    ReplyDelete
  92. That would be awesome if it wasn't for the fact she STILL looks too much like Jean Ralphio.

It's like seeing Maggie Gyllenhaal in Secretary. There's just something that short circuits your brain and screams "she looks like him too much!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  93. If either had somehow gotten out of their WCW contracts in 1998 he'd have snapped them up in a heartbeat

    ReplyDelete
  94. He can certainly set up his check so that some of it goes directly to his health insurance absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  95. He's not wrong, though. Hell, people used to say that about Hogan back in the day and no one got in trouble for THAT. Because everyone knew it was true.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yes. But at the moment, it would feel too much like Diet Brock - they'd need a bit of time between Brock buggering off to UFC again and Heyman taking on Reigns.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Let's be honest, Barrett is a much better performer than Ziggler anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  98. If Stand Up-gate turns out to be true it stuns that Jericho was able to record with Fozzy while on the roster at one point.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Ain't that the truth.

What it comes down is whether or not there is an actually condition within Ziggler's contract that says "You can't do outside gigs unless informing us" or something along those lines.

    ReplyDelete
  100. He probably felt like he would just be a rock star full time if they said no. He's a confident lad.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I think it's more of a feel good moment for the wrestlers to be honored in their hometown like that.

    ReplyDelete
  103. You and I both know what I was talking about.

I spend only $127 a paycheck on health insurance for two people. The same health insurance for me if I were to buy it independently would be nearly $600 a month. The point being is that health insurance through your employer is typically a much better deal.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I like Fozzy and Jericho is better than WWE right now. I'd rather him be off TV and be a full time Fozzy Bear.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Different era. Back then WWE didn't care as much about wrestlers' outside gigs. In fact, Vince used to LOVE when he could promote outside stuff that could mean someone in the media said "WWE wrestler". It gave him raging hard-ons.

Now? Vince doesn't want anyone becoming bigger than the brand because then they have leverage to leave. Things started to sour when Batista left to do movies (the first time) and Ryder was getting big on Twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I've never really listened to them much, but I like the fact they actually seem to be a genuine band, rather than just a gimmick side-project.

    ReplyDelete
  107. That's not much of a controversial statement around here Douglas. Lots of people love Barrett here.

    ReplyDelete
  108. They're both good in different ways, but both share the fact that they should have been pushed higher than they have been to date.

Barrett should have been holding one of the big belts when he was leading the Nexus.

    ReplyDelete
  109. They started out gimmicky and I stayed away because I assumed they were a vanity project. But I got Chasing the Grail and really liked it and got their recent album too. I was surprised. It's good.

    ReplyDelete
  110. He is not Cena, buried!

    ReplyDelete
  111. And the feud of the decade continues, WWE vs fans.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Another Jericho story then: he landed the hosting gig for Deadfall or whatever TV show he landed a hosting gig for but he did it without telling Vince and Vince told him no.

Jericho said fuck you basically and did it.

    ReplyDelete
  113. If you gave most of these wrestlers the choice of having 500 extra dollars or health insurance every month, what do you think they're taking?

    ReplyDelete
  114. It's like when WWF would harp on about Hulk, Savage and Piper being over the hill in WCW, but when WWF signed Terry Funk, suddenly Funk was in the prime of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  115. This is where I think Vince has a sliver of a point about the "millenials": I think part of him misses the old days where wrestlers weren't terrified of him and would stand up for themselves. Except for the guys like Punk/Bryan who made a big name for themselves on the indies and could've gone back to making pretty good money there if need be, I just don't think that's a skillset the current generation has.

    ReplyDelete
  116. What a petty reason to have Dolph drop the title.

    ReplyDelete
  117. It's just so short sighted and stupid though.

It's not like people don't know The Rock was a wrestler...

Sidebar: If they were smart, they'd be promoting the shit out of The Rock's stuff in the archives in their advertising for the Network.

...so any of these guys going on to bigger and better things raises their profile in a number of ways, even if it means they leave full time wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I'm getting fucking tired of jobbing I think I'll go to the Indies to rebuild myself.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Jericho seems like one of the last guys around who'll tell Vince to stick it.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think injuries are the biggest thing, obviously, that have held Barrett back. He's had, what, three serious injuries?
And injuries/concussions are probably the second-biggest thing that has held back Ziggler.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I'd have to think that the morale was pretty bad right after the Montreal Screwjob. A bunch of guys either left or wanted to leave after seeing how Vince treated Bret. Just because it led to the best period doesn't mean people weren't initially pissed... especially the wrestlers.

    ReplyDelete
  122. If part of him misses that, there's still another part of him that wants to bury someone for going against him or doing something without his approval.

And when you get mixed messages like that, no wonder the locker room is terrified.

  126. That's what I like about the Fozz. They know what they are and don't try to be anything but a fun metal band.

    ReplyDelete
  127. "Never mind the damn waitresses. Tip me."

    ReplyDelete
  128. Oh, I agree. But I somewhat get the WWE's point of view. I mean, they invested time and money in making someone like Rock or Batista big stars and then reaped the rewards. And then they leave and go and make someone else a bunch of money and WWE loses that cash cow, and the WWE basically has to wait around until they decide to grace the company with their presence... and probably only a brief visit to promote their movies if their schedule allows it.

Now I agree with you: If they were smart, they would be like "See big Hollywood stars Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista when they were wrestlers on the WWE Network!" But WWE is petty.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I don't think it's generational, I think it's that there are fewer opportunities available to make money wrestling. Obviously it can be done, as ex-WWE guys like Morrison have shown, or non-WWE guys like Styles. But the spots are few and far between.
Combine that with a company that's increasingly corporatized, where independent initiative is punished. As usual, the guys are getting blamed for the faults of a system someone else created.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Oh, I totally agree, don't get me wrong. Maybe someone like Ryder or Ziggler hasn't actually been insistent or in Vince's face enough about it. But the mixed messages between what Vince says one day and then says the next, or between what Vince and HHH and Steph all say...I can only imagine what a goddamn headache it is to work there right now.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Yeah, he hosted some game show, and while she show wasn't exactly great, he was very good. I think he may have done a couple, actually.

I'll always be a fan of yours, Bryan Carkson.

  133. Vince definitely seems like he respects someone who can look him square in the eye and tell him to fuck himself.

They only fucking thing they've booked well for years. Legit!

    ReplyDelete
  135. Don't worry, Dolph Ziggler will be Intercontinental Champion three months from now.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Well, he's not one of those damn Millennials.

But seriously, WWE needs Jericho more than Jericho needs WWE at this point. That's why he's just doing house shows.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Good god, this company is a disaster.

The saddest thing about all this? You know where we used read headlines like this?

    WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Pretty sure Dolph = Fredo.

DON'T GET IN THE BOAT, DOLPH!

    ReplyDelete
  139. I love how Dolph keeps finding new ways to piss off management.

    ReplyDelete
  140. The difference is guys begged to take Hogan's five moves for a six month swing because they made enough money for the rest of their lives.

I'm not saying he's wrong, I'm saying he keeps digging himself deeper and deeper by saying that shit out loud. You don't hear Bryan or Ambrose or Rollins saying that. Bray Wyatt. He hurts himself. It's too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I honestly think he gets off on it at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  142. "Come on, fire me! I dare you! I double dog dare you!"

    ReplyDelete
  143. Why is it ok or funny for Kevin Hart to derogatorialy state "White people" in a heavily played commercial for his new movie? Do you think any white comedian would get away with saying "Black people" in disgust in that manner or even think it was funny. The guys whole act is beyond played out and irresponsible.

    ReplyDelete
  144. After reading the smack down spoilers I think Barrett got it worse

    ReplyDelete
  145. By lying down and doing the job.

    Duh.

    ReplyDelete
  146. F'N Body Slams - Dan SelbyJanuary 7, 2015 at 8:05 AM

And they have the audacity to repeatedly point fun at WCW...

    Hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  147. That's what I love. Jericho gets to go out without 5 million(or whatever dwindling number of people watch Raw) eyeballs on him and just go out and wrestle and work a crowd like he used to. It's a sweet gig.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I don't like Kevin Hart either, but I also don't feel like explaining to you why those two things aren't the same. I'll bet you want a White History Month, too.

    ReplyDelete
  149. What's funny is they punish Dolph by punishing the fans. That makes sense. I'm glad he's getting a push, enjoy him in the ring and then he loses the title and I'm upset. I'm the customer.

Reminds me of TNA making Austin Aries job for sticking his crotch in the ring announcer's face.

Hey, Dixie's right. WWE does copy TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I wonder how much of their reluctance to be more involved from time to time has to do with how much WWE jerks people around.

I have a hard time believing guys like The Rock, Jericho, now Batista, wouldn't do more occasional spots on a RAW to promote something, or a quick backstage thing with someone, if they felt good about working with the company.

They're just not going to work matches (more Rock & Batista, less Jericho who will work) without the big paydays.

Like how much good would The Rock showing up to visit Roman Reigns at a RAW and doing a backstage cutaway or two with him and maybe a Rollins as an antagonist do for both of those guys?

    ReplyDelete
  151. "Oh, look how their business tanked with insipid writing, backstage mismanagement, growing bad morale, and backstage politics! LOL!"

    ReplyDelete
  152. :: facepalm ::

Well, wait. If I don't watch Smackdown, it doesn't happen, right?

    ReplyDelete
  153. At least give us May. No one cares about May anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Plus has plenty of time to interview guys for his podcast while they're on the road.

    ReplyDelete
  155. And now, the comedic stylings of Amy Schumer's ex-boyfriend, Dolph Ziggler!

"I don't know what hurt more...Amy riding me reverse-cowgirl or WWE management ass-fucking me without lube."

    ReplyDelete
  156. White history month would be sweet. We could learn about George Washington and Albert Einstein and Henry VIII!

    ReplyDelete
  157. I wonder if they buried Owen for an unauthorized fall.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Yep. All wins for Jericho.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Memorial Day weekend is pretty fun, plus the week before that is Summer Camp, a pretty kickass music festival here in central Illinois. NBA playoffs are in full swing, school's out or close to it for those still affected by that...May's pretty sweet, I'd say!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Great move, WWE. Invest tons of TV time and fan passion in Ziggler and then job him out for doing something completely unrelated to his job in his spare time.

Doesn't Vince remember that Hulk Hogan only became a mainstream superstar because of Rocky III and appearing on non-WWF programming? You have to branch out beyond your core audience or your audience will never grow.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Give us July. No one cares about July anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Yeah, I knew that was iffy as I typed it. I'm in a bad mood.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Anyone else catch this rumor on Cageside Seats this morning:

"Back to the 'Vince McMahon is grumpy' well. Apparently, according to Daily Wrestling News, the WWE Chairman is upset that NXT is perceived to be better than WWE and he feels that some of the NXT stars are overrated. Take that for what you will."

    http://www.cagesideseats.com/2015/1/7/7506913/rumor-roundup-jan-7-2015-grumpy-vince-mcmahon-triple-h-backstage-raw-meeting-royal-rumble-surprise

Granted, this is just a rumor, but if true, isn't this one of the most bugfuck crazy things an owner of a company could do? These are your own fucking guys! You're not actually competing with them. Why wouldn't you look to an area of your own company that's successful and examine why it is? It's hard to imagine another business functioning this way. If the CEO of Ford looked at how large swaths of the country bought F-150 trucks (which they do), can you imagine him or her saying, "Y'know, I find it irritating that our trucks are perceived as better than our sedans. Trucks are overrated. People should be driving more Tauruses, goddammit!"

    ReplyDelete
  164. Except Austin Aries sticking his crotch in the ring announcer's face was really fucked up sexual harassment. I say that's a lot worse than a guy booking an stand-up gig.

    ReplyDelete
  165. TNA was right to punish Aries

    ReplyDelete
  166. or White Entertainment Television..

    ReplyDelete
  167. Exactly. Christy Hemme could have legit sued the company for that.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Pretty sure this happens.

    Wait...what?

    Oh, we're talking reality?

    never mind. You are correct.

    ReplyDelete
  169. S'okay. I get like that sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  170. NXT invasion coming up! Everybody put their jobbing boots on!

    ReplyDelete
  171. F'N Body Slams - Dan SelbyJanuary 7, 2015 at 8:11 AM

Is it bad that i'm genuinely looking forward to seeing emptier arenas?

    ReplyDelete
  172. This is the same company that only advertises their network on their own programming.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Equality isn't something that should be determined on a grading curve. Just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  174. That's fine. Everyone knows whatever happens outside of NXT doesn't count, anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  175. To be fair a lot of companies to have rules about taking outside work. Like if you were working in a factory and on your days off you wanted to work part time delivering pizza or something and you did it without asking the factory could have you fired. In reality all you would have to do is ask the HR lady first and if the place you were working wasn't a competitor, vendor or supplier to the factory she would give you approval. But you DO have to ask first.

This logic falls a little flat when you consider that they still pretend wrestlers aren't employees, but in general requiring approval for outside work is a real, common thing

    ReplyDelete
  176. Really don't know how much longer I'll be at this job. The cumulative effect is substantial.

    ReplyDelete
  177. That would be a really weird feeling to have. That those people in the brand you own are well liked and well received.

I would say that there's no way he actually believes this but lately I've had too many "there's no ways" come true to feel confident.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Oh Lord, it's Vince in his "I need to trash WCW, even though it isn't actually a thing anymore" phase. On the plus side: Sami Zayn is coming to Raw, on the minus side, Sami Zayn is jobbing to Hornswoggle or Michelle McCool.

    ReplyDelete
  179. As a black dude, that "white people" joke trope is so tired. It's a lazy move to get laughs.

    Unless I say it.

    Sigh...white people, am I right?

    ReplyDelete
  180. JBL: These guys thing they're WWE Superstars! They should be bagging groceries!

    ReplyDelete
  181. Maybe, but do it behind the scenes - not in front of the cameras.

It'd be like making Captain Kirk not bang the green girl in the next Star Trek movie because Chris Pine got busted for a DUI in New Zealand.

    ReplyDelete
  182. WHILE insulting those who pay for the PPVs, no less.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Is this another situation where talent is supposed to stand up for themselves, but only in the properly prescribed manner?

    ReplyDelete
  184. I wonder how many of the guys who do those podcasts (Jericho's, Austin's, whoever) truly enjoy doing them, or if podcasts have become so mainstream it's like a junior version of doing a talk show circuit at this point, and it's just a thing you do. Some guys just seem kinda...there on them, but then there's ones like Jericho's interview with HHH, which was one of the most fun podcasts I think I listened to all year. HHH is either the best actor in wrestling or was just gleefully getting a kick out of nerding out on wrestling talk with an old enemy-turned-friend.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Black as NIGHT!

    ReplyDelete
  186. I do always like it when the black folks in comedies teach the white folks how to loosen up and not be so uptight. And then everybody dances.

    ReplyDelete
  187. What happens out of NXT doesn't count, what happens on SmackDown doesn't count, what happens at house shows doesn't count, what happens on Main Event doesn't count, and what happens at PPVs is invalidated. RAW IS WARRRR!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  188. What? Just because I'm not talkin' nigga this and nigga that and not saying how much I loves watermelon and fried chicken, I'm not black?

    That's racist, man.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Well that's the difference. WWE wrestlers aren't employees, and WWE says that all the time. They're "independent contractors." Legally, that's like telling the kid you hire to mow your lawn that he can't mow anyone else's lawn without approval from you first.

    ReplyDelete
  190. "Like if you were working in a factory and on your days off you wanted to work part time delivering pizza or something and you did it without asking the factory could have you fired. "

What? I've NEVER heard of this. Ever. Where has this been a thing? Please tell me.
