Comments

  1. This is my first time watching Luger in 88/89. HOLY FUCK HE IS A GOD. How did they fuck this up?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Whats up my man

    ReplyDelete
  3. Flair and politics.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Just started 2010 rumble. On DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Saw the first Joe/Punk match.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's old school.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Savage in WWF, and Luger in NWA in 1989, two of the greatest heel runs I've ever seen and both promotions couldn't figure them out.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Savage had a year long run as WWF champion, he had a nice career.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I know.

Also I literally have to login to Disqus Everytime I make a comment from my phone. Every. Goddamn. Time.

    ReplyDelete
  10. This might be my favorite Clash. Great 5 minute match between the Steiners and Skyscrapers with an awesome 4 team brawl afterwards when Doom and the Road Warriors run in. **** Luger/Pillman match with a fucking awesome showdown between Sting and Luger. And finally Funk/Flair I Quit.

    ReplyDelete
  11. If the Vikings go to the Super Bowl in '99, do they still do the job to Denver?

    ReplyDelete
  12. When TNA and ROH inevitably go out of business someday, do you think WWE will buy the tape libraries? And how long will it take to get them up in the network?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Temple of Doom is on, I'm comfortable on the couch and I'm eating chicken and dumplings. My night is now booked for me.

    ReplyDelete
  14. They will 100% buy the libraries.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Matt Strikef on commentary is the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  16. They made money off Savage...could have made more..I don't know I've always thought about that and I'm not sure how you fix it. in 88 at the height of Hulkimania I don't think you can have the heel go over at Mania. Maybe Savage could have turned heel at Survivor Series or something to give us a longer heel run.

At the least they could have gone with a less burying of Savage and had some sort of controversy with Hulks win setting up a SummerSlam rematch that certainly would have made more money than Zeus.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I reckon TNA and ROH would really appreciate if people bought their DVDs now rather than waiting for them to die and getting it all on the network.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hate how Flair takes piledrivers. He does a handstand, take it like a man you pussy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Time to watch the Austin vs Michaels Mania Rewind. I may watch all of these in a row tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Fuck Zeus. Savage should have retained at 5 and kept the belt until SummerSlam at least.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That will really suck for CM Punk's entire career to be owned by someone he hates.

I mean, except for the UFC stuff... But I'm pretty sure he'll grow to hate Dana too.

    ReplyDelete

  23. I think they win.

    ReplyDelete
  24. How would you get through Mania without Hogan getting the belt?

    ReplyDelete
  25. What is the difference between the two main awards?

    ReplyDelete
  26. As a kid Temple of Doom was always my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wrestler of the year is Kayfabe and workrate

    Most outstanding values only workrate

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with most awards.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Overrated for Kane? He's justifiably pretty lowly rated to begin with, they're going to give the guy a complex

    ReplyDelete
  30. I thought Best Technical was the workrate one. :/

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm on the Women's tag match and WrestleWar 91 has been pretty swell so far.

    ReplyDelete
  32. He gets screwed out of it and spends all summer chasing Savage drawing a ton of money.

    ReplyDelete
  33. NOBODY takes a piledriver like RVD.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Maybe have Hogan win, then have Savage take the belt back at SNME on July. Savage retains at Summerslam through shenanigans, hogan pins Savage in a Survivor match and wins the belt back at either the No Holds Barred cafe match in December or the 3rd main event.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Best Technical is about who's the best technical style wrestler, like best brawler is for brawler, dud.

    ReplyDelete
  36. How does TNA win WOrst Promotion of the Year when nearly every single bad award was won by a WWE wrestler?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Where's feud of the year?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I saw Imitation Game. It was solid but pure Oscar bait

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jones vs. Cormier

    ReplyDelete
  40. I wasn't watching WWF in 1991, but when I watched the PPVs a few years after they happened I always hated the Hogan-Slaughter match. That should've been Hogan-Savage III with Hogan-Savage somewhere in between.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with the money in the chase..but in 88 Hogan not getting the belt back seems like you would have a riot on your hands

    ReplyDelete
  42. true. or had the balls to turn Warrior heel.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Bullshit, it should be Bryan/HHH or Briscoe/Cole or Shibata/Tanahashi.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah but I'm cheap and lazy. I didn't pay to watch the Interview and I'll be rewarded by it showing up next week on Netflix. So my strategy of patience pays off.

    ReplyDelete
  45. How can someone be most improved if they've only been in the company for a year?
And I wouldn't say WWE insulting fans who bought PPV's is disgusting, just stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  46. No, it should have Savage vs Warrior in a title vs career match.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Haven't got around to it yet. Started with Big Eyes...wish I didn't start with Big Eyes

    ReplyDelete
  48. Was the problem with Ultimate Warrior on top lack of credibility or lack of good heels?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wasn't judging. I wouldn't either. But I bet it drives 'em nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I liked Big Eyes even though Waltz blew Adams off the screen

    ReplyDelete
  51. What did you think of Foxcatcher, wynxmcneal?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Eh, agree on the acting....was expecting more quirk instead of a relatively straight forward narrative

    ReplyDelete
  53. People act like Warrior not drawing like Hogan was a knock. It's not. No one was going to draw like Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  54. typo but my feelings remain the same.

    ReplyDelete
  55. No way. Denver was better at everything that the Falcons did to beat the Vikes. That was an insanely flawed team built on huge plays.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Winning an iconic passing of the torch match then just sort of having Hogan hanging around the periphery didn't help

    ReplyDelete
  57. Brryan/HHH was second.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You've been really angry lately and it is quite off putting.

    ReplyDelete
  59. UFC. That one is for both Wrestling and MMA

    ReplyDelete
  60. The WWE ECW belt looks like a toy.

    ReplyDelete
  61. The Sam Shaw-Christy Hemme-Mr. Anderson storyline was SNUBBED for a lot of 'worst of' categories.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Meltzer says the decision to take the belt off Warrior was made as early as June, so WWF must have been *really* disappointed in those early numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I forgot how good the Season Mode is in the original Smackdown game for PS1. I got it off Amazon today for $6 shipped.

    ReplyDelete
  64. We are going to die!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Holy Crap it was half way through the match before I realized there was a Jumping Bomb Angel in this match.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yea, it gets bogged down in the middle with I PAINTED THESE PAINTINGS v. No you didn't, now shut up and paint

    ReplyDelete
  67. Its what the voters picked. And I think Rusev has come a long, long way since being brought up. But the other, yeah its more stupid but nothing is really all that disgusting nowadays. We are not seeing stuff like Fritz Von Erich faking heart attacks or anything like that again.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jesus christ, Vince is red eyed and teary in this Rewind too! What was wrong with him that day?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Another amazing post match beatdown after Flair/Funk. HOW THE FUCK did they not run with Flair vs Muta and Sting vs Luger at Starrcade 89?

    ReplyDelete
  70. They did! Just in the middle of a really dull tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  71. You know what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Must be the one day of year where Vince is sensitive.....dammit

    ReplyDelete
  73. Foxcatcher was fine, though way too deliberately paced. I get what Miller was going for and liked a lot of it, but the movie tended to drag. A lot like Capote.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Aye. That show is like a collection of dream matches with all the dreaminess of them removed.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Honestly, Clash 9 might be my favorite show of 1989. It's either this or SummerSlam 89. Great American who?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Would PS2 look better on a SDTV than a HDTV? It seems like everything is blurry when I play on the HDTV.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Shaw was runner up for worst character and Shaw/Anderson was 4th for Worst Feud of the Year.

    ReplyDelete
  78. This. Warrior had no memorable feuds besides the rehashed Rude thing and Savage begging for a title shot. Meanwhile Hogan was still the focal point and involved in the hottest feuds

    ReplyDelete
  79. Who was second on most outstanding wrestler?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yea to sit in on that meeting. We have a lot of momentum and great match ups and ....lets have a pointless tourney.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Did the padded wagon match (with Anderson stopping half way through to crack juokes with Jeremy Borash) place in the worst match list?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Clash is certainly better than SummerSlam..but GAB is still the best.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Which is why Reigns will never be the next face of the company because Cena is still there. The next TOP guy will be a lot like Bret Hart, someone who happens to be at the right place at the right time.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think his problem was just being a one note character. It's hard to do much with him.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Speak of 89 match ups..I know Steamboat left because of a contract issue but did he and Muta ever go at it? If not.....who cares what the dispute was..pay that man and put on that match.

    ReplyDelete
  86. It's a great show but "best PPV ever" talk is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Is it true that Jon Jones vacated the belt?

    ReplyDelete
  88. I don't really like that they mix pro wrestling and MMA, but other than that I agree with most of it. Hasn't Death of WCW been out for a long time though? Also, there has to have been worse matches than Bray vs. Cena?

    ReplyDelete
  89. To each their own, it is probably not my favorite as the matches are a little shorter and quicker paced compared to a more modern epic feeling great main event type match.

    ReplyDelete
  90. They released an updated ten year anniversary edition in 2014. And it's still not very good.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The way to make the PS2 look absolutely best is on a SDTV with component cables.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Second worst match of the year was?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Heels. When you build him up as an unstoppable force, he becomes the immovable object once he wins the belt. He needed all the monsters of the month like they fed Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Stranger in the AlpsJanuary 21, 2015 at 6:05 PM

I saw that there will be a new episode of Old School on the Network Friday on the live stream, and then to the on demand section. The 1/23/84 MSG show where Hogan beats The Iron Sheik for th e title.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Stupidest thing I've read about the pat's ball problem:

If the NFL deems that the Patriots doctored the footballs to the team's advantage in Sunday's game, one of two things must happen:

    1) If Patriots owner Robert Kraft has an ounce of integrity, he will fire Bill Belichick immediately for toying with the integrity of the game for the second time in his otherwise magnificent career — the first issue being the SpyGate fiasco that earned Belichick and the team fines and a forfeited first-round draft choice.

    2) If Roger Goodell has an ounce of integrity, and he's not spending all his time going to pre-game soirees at Kraft's mansion, he will not only fine Belichick and take away draft choices, but suspend the head coach for the upcoming Super Bowl.

    Does this sound excessive?

It probably does if you're a New England fan. But this goes beyond New England and Indianapolis and impacts the essential fairness of every game being played on an NFL field.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Stranger in the AlpsJanuary 21, 2015 at 6:07 PM

So why didn't the Colts and referees complain about the balls during the game?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ah. Yeah, I would've picked The Squared Circle by Shoemaker.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I hate Kravitz..but I hate Belicheck more so it might be excessive but I am holding out the slightest of hopes for it because it would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Sakuraba & Nagata vs. Gracies

    ReplyDelete
  100. Itami vs. Breeze? Charlotte vs. Banks?! Balor vs. Axel!! What a loaded NXT tonite.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Colts did..that is why the ball got pulled

    ReplyDelete
  102. Austin/Michaels build is awesome but Tyson is such a HAM

    ReplyDelete
  103. Which Rewind is it?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Stranger in the AlpsJanuary 21, 2015 at 6:09 PM

The NFL needs to suspend itself for one year and donate all revenue to butthurt fans everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I think it was lack of good heels. I mean, once you beat Hogan how can anyone kayfabe be much of a threat?

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'm a belichick backer from his Giants days but I'd be ok with suspending him from the superbowl. This is beyond nuts at this point because I think he's the best coach of this generation and he didn't have to resort to this idiocy.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Funniest thing I've read about the ball issue:

Wouldn’t deflated balls help both teams? This was my fiancée’s question. My answer: “No, the Colts get to play with their own balls, and the Patriots bring their balls. Everybody plays with separate balls.” Note: It is impossible to explain this scandal without turning into a fifth-grader.

    ReplyDelete
  108. A few house show matches in June.

    ReplyDelete
  109. HBK is SO serious and nervous looking on his way to the ring for this match

    ReplyDelete
  110. Bryan vs. Authority was 2nd.

    ReplyDelete
  111. The Super Bowl becomes immediately tainted if you suspend him.

    ReplyDelete
  112. How I'd book things following Clash 9: Sting vs Luger for the US title as the main, Flair vs Muta for the World title as co-main. Sting finally ends Luger's reign of terror wins the US title, Flair retains. Luger stays a heel and steamrolls Flair for the World title in February. Build to Luger/Sting 2 at GAB 90. Sting wins the title, then do the Flair heel turn afterwards and build to Flair/Sting for Starrcade 90.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I liked that pace. I also like that with Foxcatcher and Moneyball he's sort of reinvented the sports film.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Eh, I'm fine with that

    ReplyDelete
  115. What idiocy? Slightly deflating footballs for one half? That clearly had no impact on the game? It would be idiocy of the highest degree to suspend belichick for a pre season game over this.

    ReplyDelete
  116. No one would take the game seriously, especially if Seattle rolled.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Nice picks overall. Especially Raw as worst show of the year and AJ Styles winning Most Outstanding and Match of the Year.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Feud of the Year:Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier
Worst Match of the Year: John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt at Extreme Rules

    Seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  119. So TNA couldn't, or wouldn't, keep the outstanding wrestler of the year and the best tag team, but they did try and throw a lot of money del rio? *slow clap*

    ReplyDelete
  120. You ever see the making of stuff for that where Lucas talks about his divorce and that being why that movie was so dark? It's funny how Spielberg throws Lucas under the bus for most of the Indy movies turning out the way they did.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I liked Moneyball and thought Capote was okay. No complaint with the acting nods, but no way did Bennett Miller deserve a nod.

    ReplyDelete
  122. It's more that he has a history of cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  123. And? League's a joke as is and you have the same story going the other way if Pats win with belichick......."oh, they probably cheated again". Hell, then give Pats the option, belichick's suspended for Superbowl or they can get one last shot and he's banned for life post SB

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'm not a butt hurt fan. I went in knowing the Colts probably didn't have a prayer. The Colts got their ass kicked and no amount of cheating or not cheating was going to change that. HOWEVER..Belicheck evidently didn't agree and went the extra mile incase the game was close.

The it didn't matter because of the score argument is insane. They cheated. They tried to give themselves an advantage and get one past officials (assuming all the evidence that has leaked out is all correct). This is not some innocent mistake from a first time offender this is Belicheck...the guy who has already be found guilty of cheating IN A SUPERBOWL.

All of that being the case it's just hard for me to go along with one we will fine him some money and take a draft pick away. He isn't worried about a draft pick, he is worried this is his last time at a ring ..especially with this QB.

I don't assume he will be fired. or suspended from the Superbowl ( I don't think Goodell has the balls to do that) but..You could make the argument that Sean Payton sat out a year and wasn't even the one behind bountygate...so second time caught cheating in the playoffs..a year suspension might put a stop to it.

    ReplyDelete
  125. IMO this wasn't cheating. Maybe gamesmenship. Spygate was 8 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  126. The whole thing is a mess, but suspending Belichick for the SB is not the answer, especially since we still don't know what is involvement in all of this.

Then again, he should've been suspended twice before.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Stranger in the AlpsJanuary 21, 2015 at 6:15 PM

I like that you challenge us, your readers, to a match as either Savage or Duggan. It's like what we used to do in the backyard after Superstars was over.

    ReplyDelete
  128. For repeatedly cheating in a variety of ways and getting caught at the worst times. There's still the bit about Brady allegedly never having his headset cut off on the field that came from Flutie

    ReplyDelete
  129. The superbowl isn't tainted with Belicheck on his second time caught cheating getting to and or winning the superbowl?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Pretty much spot on. However, hard to say Kane's overrated, there were plenty worse matches than Bray/Cena, and MMA feuds? No.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Whooooooooooo!

Ric not dropping the strap at Starrcade '88 is Top 10 worst decisions ever.

    ReplyDelete
  132. This is a league that featured a ref going out and fixing a game live on television just a few weeks ago.

    Integrity? All the luls.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Proof with sources please?

    ReplyDelete
  134. He wasn't found guilty of cheating in the SB. It was never proven

    ReplyDelete
  135. There's a rule. They broke the rule on purpose.

What is cheating if that isn't?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Or GAB 88. Dropping it there and regaining it at Starrcade would have been fine.

    ReplyDelete
  137. 500,000 and a first round draft pick says otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  138. What about Starrcade '89?

    ReplyDelete
  139. ^ Is so butthurt about Seattle he's projected it into Belichek love

    ReplyDelete
  140. I know we have some gamers on the forum, but I don't know if anyone ever played City of Heroes when it was still around. I was thinking about it recently when I tried DC Universe Online on my new gaming computer. Mostly disappointed with said game, honestly. But then, CoH kind of set a high bar for me.

Anyway, I decided to write about my thoughts on my time playing City of Heroes, specifically my time playing my favourite created hero: Doug the Troll. Have a look if you're interested.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Anybody watch Wrestling with Death?

    ReplyDelete
  142. I bet Doc Emrick would have made a fantastic wrestling announcer.

    ReplyDelete
  143. The person that should be really suspended is Pete Carroll. He cheated at USC and once he was caught, he left to the NFL and not take his punishment like a man.
Then, for some reason a bunch of his NFL players is caught with Adderall.
    Give me a freaking break.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Who takes the US Title off of Sting?

Either way i've always said Sting over Flair at Starrcade '89. The NWA wrestler of the 80's giving way to the wrestler of the 90's

    ReplyDelete
  145. This is the epitome of cheating, whether you think it's a minor issue or not

    ReplyDelete
  146. He hasn't been caught cheating yet. The Pats have. If they prove he did it, suspend him in the regular season

    ReplyDelete
  147. Sounds like the kind of discussion that could make people teste.

    ReplyDelete
  148. For those interested, here's a translated interview with Shinsuke Nakamura: http://yottsumepuroresu.blogspot.ca

Good points about the importance of card structure.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I wouldn't get invested in that hummer storyline if I wear you ;)

    ReplyDelete
  150. WEAR him? What kind of fetish is that?
