IC Tourney Second Round: Final Matchups

Man, who are the 24 idiots who wasted their votes on HHH?  Probably the same 24 who will waste theirs on the Miz here.

http://challonge.com/bodic#_=_

Another couple of interesting matches here to close out the round of 32.

Comments

  1. Vince is under no obligation to induct Savage (much as he deserves it). It'd be strange if him sticking it to Savage involved a HOF induction at all.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Hogan's words were so devastating that Bret Hart died the next day but was then revived due to the power of Hulkamania brother!

Meanwhile Shawn Michaels was in Syracuse, fighting off the entire United States Marine Corps. He survived the fight without minor injuries, but he did briefly lose his smile.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I doubt Punk would lobby for the induction, since it'd make no sense for him to get that role. What connection did he have with Macho Man other than using a shitty version of his elbow and wearing his gear in tribute after he died? Hogan, Lanny, Steamboat and Flair are all better candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Honky Tonk Man/Rude - Went with Honky because I can't remember what Rude did during his reign

Barrett/Von Erich - Barrett because he made a less shitty champion than Tornado

Warrior/Owen - Toughie, but went with Owen just because I marked out more for Owen's first IC title win than Warrior's first title win

    Rock/Miz - LOL Rock

    ReplyDelete
  5. I like him in the ring just fine. There have be plenty of far worse wrestlers to main event shows. He's not great on the mic, but for fuck's sake, I doubt I could even keep a straight face reading that horrendous shit. He was good in the shield, and he was good saying small bits or just being quiet. Hell, even DB got kind of annoying when he had to do those neutered, ultra babyface promos. I just don't get how WEE can be so repeatedly tone deaf. When I first started watching again a couple years ago, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking it was all part of a bigger plan. Now it feels like they only accidentally get something right.

    ReplyDelete
  6. "What do you expect out of Terry Bollea..."

WOW, COOL! You know his REAL NAME! Go you!

    ReplyDelete
  7. He's just flashing his smark card.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Even Bret would begrudgingly admit that he didn't have guys lined up outside his hotel room until 89 or 90.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Vince or at least Vince's cronies knows talent where they see it and generally respect their opinion even if they have no plans to push the guy. Fact was Kid was in the top 5 best workers of the company, but Waltman wasn't the only "good hand", Owen was as well as they also tested newcomers against him.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I voted Owen but then immediately changed my mind thinking that Warrior was the only IC champ to defeat the world champion. Doesn't matter, either are just being kept strong to put the Mountie over.

    ReplyDelete
  11. DB being made to say “Now I may look like
an extra from the Hobbit….” was pretty damn embarrassing to me too, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. "Perhaps Douglas rubbed Nash off the wrong way..."

I think you mean he rubbed Nash the wrong way, not off.

...or maybe you did mean he rubbed him off?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh Mohamed...

    ReplyDelete
  14. To me, Heenan holding down Warrior's leg for the Rude pin is as iconic as anything Honky (or any other IC Champs) did.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Warrior/Owen was a tough one for me, but I had to go with Warrior. Him squashing Honky is probably the most memorable IC title win ever. The title changes with Rude and eventually winning the wwf title while still ic champ is some legendary stuff.

Looks like we're going to get Austin/Savage and Perfect/Bret down the line which should both be very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Fuck Austin, he shouldn't have made it this far.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Aye, it just wasn't gonna be for the title I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hated it when Superstars went from original squashes to another friggin recap show.

    ReplyDelete
  19. People are going to think that Rougeau only beat Bret once in 1992, and that having the flu is some kind of excuse, so let's just rewatch this match from 1988 and see what happens. Oh look Rougeau wins again! 2-0.

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9siub_bret-hart-vs-jacques-rougeau_sport

    ReplyDelete
  20. Bret also shows unsportsmanlike conduct by attacking him after the match. That's not how a champion should carry himself. Bret should have shaken his hand after the match, that's what Jacques would have done if he lost.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I respectfully disagree. Hogan and Savage are linked at the hip in history and I think its only appropriate that it is Hogan who gets to talk about Savage and induct him. Poffo will be giving the acceptance speech, which is also the way it should be.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The OP is clearly overthinking it; the writers/Vince really are that terrible and think that having Reigns act as a cartoon superhero will make him the next Stone Cold.

I bet even Hurricane Helms is watching Reigns and going "Man what a fucking goofball."

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rude beaten the Warrior, something Honky had never done.

    ReplyDelete
  24. But, back in say 1998, there were far more steps on the "profile" ladder that would allow you to continually grow before you were expected to be in a program for the world belt.

For instance, look at HHH in that year. He certainly had profile being with Shawn for the Austin program, and upped that even more for the DX invasion, but because the IC title was still so meaningful, winning it in the semi-main of Summerslam and blowing the roof off the place was still a step up.

If HBK leaves DX and heel HHH is forced to challenge Austin in main event programs, without the spring and summer that he had, it would have totally lacked credibility.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Let's see...
Honkey Tonk Man because he is the longest reigning IC champ ever who drew butt loads of money so that people can watch him get what's coming to him

I choose Wadw because he did what he could with the belt. Kerry winning it was a cool moment but ultimately proved unreliable

Warrior for one of the greatest moments in wrestling history by murdering Honky Tonk and, as mentioned, went on to headline and WIN the Championship at Wrestlemania as IC champ

Rock because he's the Rock, period

    ReplyDelete
  26. Honky called himself the greatest IC champion of all time, something Rude had never said before. Probably because he knew it wasn't true.

    ReplyDelete
  27. There wouldn't have been a WrestleMania III without Hogan, period. So the bashing is unwarranted.

Who else would induct Savage if not for Hogan? Hogan was his all-time greatest opponent and the MegaPowers storyline defined both of their careers.

And as I pointed out before, WWE can use this Hogan exposure and link with Savage to play into his final comeback later this year.

    ReplyDelete
  28. In that case, they should totally drop his last name and have Maggle go "Someone has lost the reins on Roman and now he's a free man!!"

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's like those Punk fans that refer to the Rock as "Dwayne".

    ReplyDelete
  30. There is a zero percent chance this is some long con based on Vince's experience with the Rocky Maivia character pre-Nation. Not only are they not smart enough to intentionally pull that off, but it just doesn't make sense. There's so many people who have indicated on the record at this point that Reigns is Vince's next 'it' guy. They were thinking about Reigns as the long term face of the company as far back as when The Shield fought Punk and they were stressing to Punk that he has to make Roman look extra good.
There's a slightly less than zero percent chance they may pivot in that direction when this blows up in their face. But the more like scenario is the Luger/Hart 1994 booking where Vince finally realized and had to concede that Luger sucked and rebooked everything. I could see them not knowing who is going to win the Rumble until they day before or the day of and then going with Bryan.
Or, they put over someone unexpected in the Rumble match as a placeholder to buy them more time to figure out what to do and then have someone win the right to the match from the Rumble winner.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think Rude wins for his memorable victories and overall hotness. HTM's only famous match that I can recall was one he lost in 30 seconds. He's a jobber. And jobbers have no place in this IC tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You're delusional if you think The Mountie won't get his man, sir.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Shield needed to stick together a few more months to keep seasoning "The Storyteller" Roman Reigns.

Between the early break-up and his injury, Reigns' push has been derailed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Strangely, I could see Hogan knocking this induction out of the park. As others have mentioned, he still has the truth to bullshit ratio down when talking about himself, but he's "mellowed" when he talks about others.

    ReplyDelete
  35. "I bet you any money though that Hogan will tell a story about how Steamboat and Savage had their classic at Wrestlemania III Wrestlemania V and then Hogan was the first one to go shake his hand and congratulate him on the great match or something the next night on Raw."

    FTFY

    ReplyDelete
  36. The Mountie is 2-0.....in matches he's won against Bret. He's like 0-40 in others. I read in PWI that Bret once beat him in 3 seconds a la Rock/Bossman at Survivor Series '98. He didn't get his man that time

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would love it if The Genius inducted Macho with a poem while holding the scroll.

Then he can turn to Hogan and say "My brother may not have beaten you before, but don't forget my count out victory over you Hogan!"

    ReplyDelete
  38. Or at the very least Roman & Dean should have stayed aligned. They could have put the tag straps on Rollins/Kane or Rollins/Orton and had a feud that way where Roman's deficiencies are being shielded by Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He congratulated Savage on a show still nearly four years away?

Damn, Warrior's smoke, trap doors, and mirrors have NOTHING on Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The podcast he did with Jericho last week was awesome

    ReplyDelete
  41. PWI dude? That's kayfabe. This is real life.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Mountie wanted to give him a receipt because it's no fun if you beat a guy all the time. Even Hogan found beating Savage every night boring.

    ReplyDelete
  43. But you're talking in Kayfabe with wins and losses! Mountiemania is rattling your brain!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hogan is the best carny bullshitter when he's on the Today Show or doing some other non-wrestling appearance. And why not? Nobody ever became big in wrestling by telling the truth.

He's always been much more candid in pro wrestling circle interviews. He did fine inducting Mean Gene a few years back. He'll do well inducting Savage.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Eh a countout once every blue moon doesn't cut it. Can't be Savage never beat Hogan. Even in stupid WCW!

    ReplyDelete
  46. A guy always comes out of a breakup
stronger if he’s the one initiating it too.

    ReplyDelete
  47. And it feels so good!

    ReplyDelete
  48. That Rick Rude is so hot right now

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah in last nights Imfamous IC Champs countdown on WWE network, every clip of Honky winning was against a jobber. Every one (except the title win of course). Rude strangely didn't make the list. Stupid WWE universe....

    ReplyDelete
  50. OK, but HBK still fucked up Mania plans, title or not, by faking an injury.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Honky has to win this

    ReplyDelete
  52. Bret probably paid Bill Apter to write that column. Don't you know Bill Apter takes bribes?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I thought it was Stephanie who was going to induct the Macho Man.

    ReplyDelete

Page or Jake wouldn't have been bad "Plan C" choices.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonJanuary 14, 2015 at 7:04 AM

    So Lanny WILL be there?

    ReplyDelete
  57. "I've gotta tell you brothers, every time I bodyslammed, legdropped and pinned that stinky, wart-infested Giant, King Kong Bundy, the Taskmaster or the Sting Mon, I thought about how much better it would be if I were going over Randy. I tear up just thinking about it, brothers."

    ReplyDelete
  58. These the kinda homies that meet Undertaker and be all, "It's an honor to meet you, Mark."

    The fuck outta here.

    ReplyDelete
  59. As every day goes by you have to suspect that the sensible Main Event is Brock/Bryan. Top Heel vs Top Face. Simple as that.

However, the company want Reigns and if Reigns/Brock isn't going to work the most obvious match - playing off the last year - is to get the belt on Rollins and do Rollins/Reigns/Ambrose. Play up the Shield History and the fans certainly won't turn on the match - they may turn on the winner though....in which case call an audible and turn him heel on Ambrose.

    Do:

    Brock/Bryan
    Ambrose/Rollins/Reigns
    Cena/Rusev
    HHH/Sting

As your big four matches and the cards a winner - you could even have either of the top two matches be your title match.

    ReplyDelete
  60. ''What do you expect out of Terry Bollea on March 28th?''

I don't know, but Hulk Hogan's going to be inducting Macho Man into the HOF.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Agreed. Personally, I thought it was going to be Steamboat since he's a good non-controversial choice. I'm glad it's Hogan though. Most of the other possibilities are dead.

    ReplyDelete
  62. "He's Roman Freeman, Maggle! This is his redemption! Like in the movie! I love it, we're having fun.." and so forth.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I always thought it was rather ironical that the Undertaker's first name is Mark.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Theberzerker Von HUSSingtonJanuary 14, 2015 at 7:12 AM

Vince will go take a piss and stop at catering during the induction, I can tell you that.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Two things I hate about wrestling fans:
    1. Wanting to be so smart that they call talent by their real names, and use the term "this business" like they're involved in it some way.
    2. Anti-smarks that are just as unbearable as Smarks because 90% of their posts are about how terrible those "smarks" are, even though they themselves are defined as smarks.

So basically all fans are pretty terrible and lame. Except you and me, and maybe 50 other guys, and that's about it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I went to the hall of fame in 2005 and saw Hogan get inducted and now I'll be going ten years later to see Macho get in. I'm pretty happy.

Just gotta say that I find it embarrassing when fans get dressed up to go to the hall of fame induction. I mean, do what you want to do, but to me it seems so dorky to put on a suit as if you're going to a wedding or something.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Exactly, the break up came at the wrong time for Roman. He needed to reach the point where the fans were clamouring for him to break away from The Shield and go solo. Instead it ended to pop a rating with the focus on Ambrose and Rollins while Reigns wasted time in multi man matches for the title.

    ReplyDelete
  68. For those who want to see THE definitive meeting between The Mountie and Bret Hart, watch this video

It gets really good around 5:15-5:40

    ReplyDelete
  69. I might have to sit at the computer and vote for Bret 3,000 times like others here seem to do.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sebastian, is that you?

Just because you have a tendency to call wrestlers by their real names in your e-mails to Scott: http://www.rspwfaq.net/2014/12/punk-main-eventing-wm-takerrock.html

    ReplyDelete
  71. Do you really think Double J or Ziggler should've gone over Austin? I'm a big Ziggler fan but not over Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Two wrongs don't make a right, bill! Don't succumb to this level.

    *continues spam voting for Mountie*

    ReplyDelete
  73. I was one of those 24 people who voted for Triple H because I'm not a good person. However, I am not such a not good person that I would vote The Miz over The Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Definitely not. If this was a tournament for greatest world champions ever then sure, I'd vote Austin all the way but Austin did nothing as IC champion.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Still feeling hurt from that time Marty closed the door in your face when you tried to attend one of his sexy parties?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Some of those matches would be pretty interesting clusterfucks.
RVD/Savage would be a glorious train wreck b/c Macho planned everything
out meticulously and RVD, well not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Collared shirt should be mandatory at these things, at the very least. The 2004 one was done fairly classy, and that feel hasn't been duplicated since.

    ReplyDelete
  78. "... he died not long after."

    ReplyDelete
  79. Well, I loved Austin's ic title feud with the rock more than anything the other two guys did so he gets my vote. Even if it was brief, he was the hottest guy in the business while he had the ic belt. Plus I can't stand double j, so there's that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I still would prefer the Leapster do the honors than the Hulkster.

    ReplyDelete
  81. LOD turned up a couple more times - most notably the Sunday Night Heat battle royal before Wrestlemania XV and (I think) the Raw after vs. Jarrett & Owen before quietly seeing out their contracts

    ReplyDelete
  82. Raven put it pretty well: you wouldn't call Tom Cruise Mr. Maytother.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Not only did Austin do nothing with the IC belt, but he pretty much buried the title as he gave it to the Rock. At least Dolph and Jarrett acted like the IC title meant everything to them.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Tony Atlas and Saba Simba!

But I'm not sure the latter really helped get him in the hall...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Pedro Morales (almost 1 1/2 years) and Muraco (over 1 yr) are eliminated, and The Mountie (champ for what? 2 days?????) advances 2 rounds (rolls eyes)? No offense, but I think we can safely say this bracket is a complete joke

    ReplyDelete
  86. lanny should do the induction and jay lethal the acceptance speech

    ReplyDelete
  87. I get that Terry Bollea and Randy Poffo may have had a strained relationship, but who else is closer linked to Randy Savage's career than Hulk Hogan?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Perhaps. But it does seem like he liked having their input (or was forced to like it, on a few occasions) in this timeframe.

    ReplyDelete
  89. To be fair, Nash's "cardiovascular issues" didn't really start until '97 or so.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lex Luger. Savage sacrificed his cushy desk job as WWF announcer just so he could save him from being beat up by Bob Backlund and the Native American Turncoat, Tatanka.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm going to admit to being the one fan of the Dean Douglas gimmick. "Grammatically incorrect!" Was a funny comeback. The changes I would make would be better ring gear and a change to focus on him critiquing others by staring out as some annoying backstage tutor that eventually starts to fight. As it was it made no sense to have a teacher just show up and start wrestling. The actual idea had potential though. A smug douche correcting everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The obvious answer is RIGHT THERE. Let him dethrone Rusev for the US Title at Mania. Reigns gets a big rub, a featured role at Mania, and is inserted in a spot where the crowd will almost absolutely back him 100%. It isn't rocket science.

    ReplyDelete
  93. MAYBE Ricky Steamboat?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Agree about Muraco. Disagree about Pedro.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonJanuary 14, 2015 at 8:51 AM

That was a difficult choice for me.

    Is he in hell?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Performing "Stand Back!"

    ReplyDelete
  98. Pedro generally sucks as a worker - no argument there, but Jannetty was champ for what? 2 weeks? At least Pedro had a few good matches with Muraco

    ReplyDelete
  99. whoever emailed this definitely looks and sounds like comic book guy.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Always glad to see a Shane Douglas topic on the BOD. Never fails to incite a lot of interesting opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Would either one of those guys won the tournament in the end?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yup. Would be very similar to Cena winning the US title in the opening match of WM XX, then taking on all comers for the rest of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  104. When I met The Rock, I called him Dwayne, but this was during the period where he was being billed as Dwayne Johnson.

    ReplyDelete
  105. You would think they would have learned this after Orton/Evolution

    ReplyDelete
  106. To show how subtley you can get someone over as a face, think of the pops Reigns was getting at the end of the Shield heel run just by simply stepping up and holding his ground vs the Wyatts/Authority etc as Rollins/Ambrose backed down

    ReplyDelete
  107. Even in Bret's book there's no firm plan for him to win the title and he admits Vince may have just lead him to believe that - which makes sense because he was harping on the idea of coming back to win the title at WM13 since he was asked to lose at WM12.

    ReplyDelete
  108. It should not be Lanny doing the induction, at all. When you think of Savage you think of Hogan an the Megapowers storyline from 1987 to 1989. Lanny is there to accept, but Hogan absolutely has to do the induction.

I don't get what's so hard for people to understand about this. So what if they didn't like each other? It's wrestling, it's all a work

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hogan would be my 1st choice for the reason stated above

    ReplyDelete
  110. HURRICANE WAS AWESOME YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH RIGHT NOW.

    ReplyDelete
  111. God's honest truth.. Marty got me kicked out of a Hall Of Fame ceremony at the Marriott Marquis in the 90's. I snuck past the security gate they had the fans in so I could get some photos as the guys left the ballroom. I hid in the bathroom for a few minutes, and I saw Marty in there. He snitched on me to the security guards and they had me thrown out.

    ReplyDelete
  112. The only way Lanny should be allowed to do the induction would be if he did it as a poem. In all seriousness, though, it'll probably be Savage's wife accepting for him. I doubt they would trust Lanny with a live mic.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Lanny will accept the award, and he doesn't need to give two speeches.

Savage will always be more closely tied to Hogan than to any other wrestler, and that's not even a close race. Hogan is the right choice.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Was it 2006 where Cena was talking about Eddie and the fans were just booing and heckling him? I thought that was pretty classless.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Stephanie Mcmahon ;)

    ReplyDelete
  116. All Blue Blazers look alike to me, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Even if HHH would have won he'd have not advanced

    ReplyDelete
  118. Reigns promos are being written by Vince himself according to Meltzer and like everything with Vince he is writing for an audience of one. I honestly believe he thinks he is turning Reigns into the Rock because the Rock could successfully pull off some crazy ass promos and still look cool.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm good with it being Hogan. Who else is more closely associated with Savage?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Hello no.....but Jannetty or The Mountie might!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessJanuary 14, 2015 at 10:59 AM

"It should have been Lanny doing the induction, period."

Yes, we should absolutely give that job to one of the most outspoken critics of the WWE. Besides, I fully expect The Genius to accept the award for his brother.

Or, the WWE finally relented on inducting Angelo and Lanny, too, which they will announce at a later date.

    ReplyDelete
  122. True that, but let's not act like all things are equal. Douglass was not a good fit for that company. The end. The hazing and burying was out of line regardless of any other thing going on.

    ReplyDelete
  123. . Vince McMahon received some flack when Randy had a heart attack and rarely on tv he's seen until he ran into that tree. But on this day we honour him by snapping into a slim jim and send him to the Hall of Fame for hitting that before The Game.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Of course Hogan should do the induction, he has inserted himself into almost every major honor of Savage's career.

    ReplyDelete
  125. putting Reigns in glasses and a suit to walk around backstage like nobody recognized him as a secret identity would be awesome

    ReplyDelete
  126. he should tell us a story relating the Shield to the Three Little Pigs

    ReplyDelete
  127. "I was in that Jeep Brother"

    ReplyDelete
  128. "For most this will mean much less sex, for me it will mean muchmuch more!"

    ReplyDelete
  129. On Saturday Macho has his big HOF moment. Then Monday Night Raw comes and Hogan pins his corpse for the Hall of Fame ring, just for old times sake.

    ReplyDelete
  130. *Stupid Sexy Rude

    ReplyDelete
  131. imagine coked up Macho trying to lay it out with stoned RVD before the match. That should be a sitcom.

    ReplyDelete
  132. So did Shawn Michaels having to fake knee injuries to not lose the title.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Is there anybody, before or since, who wrestled like the Macho Man?

With other legends you can see their influences, if you know the older stars, and you might see wrestlers today patterning their ring work after them. But who's ever been like Savage?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Maybe Shawn Michaels ...

    ReplyDelete
  135. Shawn always seemed like a refined Ricky Morton to me, but I'm not a huge NWA guy, so maybe that's way off.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Cornette once compared Savage to a panther. I think that describes his way moving perfectly, at least when he was young.

    ReplyDelete
  137. And Warrior is no longer here to interject and stop it.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Hogan should do it - but at the same time - Hogan will probably talk about how 8000 Andre was the main event, but Savage stole the shoe.

    ReplyDelete
  139. The Hall of Fame ends with Hogan posing with Savages picture in the background.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Andre the giant farted on me at Wrestle-mania III

    ReplyDelete
  141. Disagree with you completely, Scott. I had no interest in Lanny doing the induction. By all accounts, Randy and Hulk made amends before the end, and I see no reason why the guy most associated with Savage's career shouldn't induct him.

    ReplyDelete
  142. THIS. The Rock is the ONLY GUY in probably the history of WWE that could pull off these shitty promos. I don't blame Reigns at all. He's being set up to fail by reciting garbage scripts.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I love this idea. But then what do you do with Cena? Hunter?

    ReplyDelete
  144. "He always said I was like a younger version of Miss Elizabeth"

    ReplyDelete
  145. I know folks will go for Owen but Warrior really did do good business as champ in his two runs, hot after destroying Honky Tonk and really fit things well.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I think Savage had closer friends in the business whereas him and Hulk always seemed on the outs with each other. Savage/Bret seemed pretty tight for instance. I think if Warrior hadn't have died then he'd probably be on the shortlist to induct Savage too.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I see someone has trouble remembering that length of reign isn't too meaningful in a fake sport =)

    ReplyDelete
  148. I don't watch this stuff anymore - but Roman Reigns needs his brother Luther to feud with.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Cena vs. Grandpa Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Heck, just watch tag matches with the Rougeaus before they hired Jimmy Hart!! Jacques wanted to shake hands all the time!! But those poor sports the Killer Bees were the sore losers...

    ReplyDelete
  151. I don't think you avoid a good idea in service of John Cena in 2015. He's John Cena. He'll be fine.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I think Honky/Rude would be entertaining just to watch Honky invoke the Flair Effect and turn lifelong heel Rude face for a night.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Reigns should absolutely turn heel.

    ReplyDelete
  154. When did you wake up from the coma?

    ReplyDelete
  155. In this case, though, that would be exactly what you want. Turning Reigns heel would be, essentially, punting on this face push and trying it again in a few months, a year, whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  156. In a perfect world - which this isn't - Bruce Wilhelm or Hulk Hogan would wrestle Cena. I'm shocked Vince hasn't created his own version of Bruce Wilhelm.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I almost think voting should have to be done here in the comments, but we'd probably get some fanatics who'd create 150 mock accounts to spam the voting still.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Rock still had intensity when he was mocking with stupid jokes and voices. You could tell he was trying to provoke or get the fact he was superior rattling inside his opponents head. Cena, Sheamus and Reigns just sound like they're having fun or trying to make the crowd laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Fair enough....let's talk about whats important - the bottom line: How much money did The Mountie draw as Intercontinental Champ (2 days - 1 defense against Roddy Piper, when he lost in the early part of the Royal Rumble PPV)?

    ReplyDelete
  160. People usually remember the Hawk pushing/sucidie thing - but forget about two weeks later they tried to do an angle where Hawk accused Droz of bring his dealer. The LOD was gone for good until the brief 2003 tryout.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Raven was played by Charles Saggs?

    ReplyDelete
  162. Hold the phone - that's Tony Atlas.

    ReplyDelete
  163. The sad thing is Owen went back to Blazer because he didn't want to do an angle where he was having an affair with Debra. They had given up on the angle by Mania, but then out of nowhere - he was back.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Those are the same 24 people that bought HHH's workout video.

    ReplyDelete
  165. He talks about others in golden tones, but it's just to make himself seem all that much better. Everything he does or says is to work someone over.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Someone seems to have lifted this already! https://www.facebook.com/fauxhogan.bollea

    ReplyDelete
  167. If they went into the audience at the next Raw and asked everyone if they knew who Leaping Lanny Poffo or The Genius was, do you think 5% of them would say yes?

    ReplyDelete
  168. I always thought Bret Hart's HOF speech should have ended with the podium falling ontop of him, and then Hogan comes out and legdrops the podium and takes Bret's ring.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I have zero problem with Hogan doing this, and I'm sure he will do as good of a job as anyone. My fear about this is that Lannys acceptance speech will be horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I'd put them against each other. Cena wants redemption for bringing back the Authority, getting his friends fired, etc. so he challenges Hunter to some kind of grudge match at Mania.
    So you have,
    Cena/HHH
    Reigns//Rusev (US)
    Bryan/Lesnar (WWE)
    Sting/Taker
    Orton/Rollins
Andre Battle Royal (Ryback goes over, last eliminating Barrett - also includes Sheamus, Big Show, Cesaro, Kidd, Stardust, Goldust, Kane, New Day, Ambrose, Rowan, Harper, Jericho, etc.)
    Usos/Ascension (Tag)
    Ziggler/Wyatt (IC)
Some sort of Divas showcase match

    ReplyDelete
  171. I agree. I'd be more worried about Lanny going on about how Randy got him in the business, how he taught Randy about mannerisms and catchphrases, etc.

Hogan will probably put over Randy like he's been doing since he died.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Length of reign doesn't matter as much as quality of Reign. Name me one Pedro Morales match you liked in wrestling history. Or even just one promo.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Exactly. A trial run of sorts for an eventual main event push and WWE Title reign (no pun intended).

    ReplyDelete
  174. Huh??? This one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqm7Q71NHSM I don't know, at least you could name a Pedro match (unlike everyone else who argued for Pedro) but man that match is definitely not my cup of tea.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Rock is a no brainer. I'm voting Barrett in the bracket no one cares about. Kerry beat Perfect and came in like gang busters but overall Barrett is probably the better IC champ.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I have to go Rude and Warrior. I love Owen, and like him way more than Warrior but Warrior was a better IC champ. I don't like HTM but respect the IC reign. However Rick Rude is like the prototypical IC champ and even beat Warrior for the belt. Plus he was with Heenan. I can't vote for HTM over Rude.

    ReplyDelete
  177. All in on Rick Rude for this. Rude was a main event caliber guy after his IC title run. Honky was joke. Otherwise I went Warrior, Von Erich, Rock. I couldn't vote for Barrett with all the non title jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Yeah, the only thing in common any of the have with the rock is that they're all standing in a ring with a mic. The similarities end there. Sheamus sucks at it and Cena tries hard and falls flat all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Owen vs Warrior when Warrior came back in 96 would have been pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Fair Enough......

Nov. 23, 1981 - Pedro Morales vs. Don Muraco - Texas Death Match (Basically, in WWE this means No DQ). The one on the "History of the Intercontinental Title" VHS Commercial tape. A surprisingly GOOD match with lots of blood, and had 21,104 in the Garden as the semi-main (Backlund-Valentine). I haven't watched it in a couple years, but I remember it being a good match.

For good measure, the month before in Oct. 1981 - Morales & Muraco from MSG (Stopped due to blood)....on the same tape I think......drew 18,120 to MSG. Fair match, but had a shitty finish

The point is, either of these 2 matches alone is more memorable than anything The Mountie did as I-C Champion (again....2 DAYS!). Am I saying Pedro or Muraco was an infinitely better worker than The Mountie? No. But they were waaaaay better Intercontinental Champions.

    ReplyDelete
  181. In Vinces eyes he'll consider it 5 stars if Cena just literally carries a 300 monster.

    ReplyDelete
  182. It was Warrior's last Raw match and was pretty decent. I always felt Warrior had a few great matches still left in him at that point, but sadly we never got to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I have no problems with Muraco and voted for him in his round. Morales stunk. Absolutely was awful. Where as the Mountie was one of the best mid card heel gimmicks in history. I still fondly remember the Bret-Mountie-Piper stuff from when I was a kid. I never watched a Pedro match until I had WWE 24/7 but at this point in my life I've seen about 20 or so Pedro matches, and I've heard plenty of his mic work. Definitely not for me. Plus he was world champ for a long time. Hard for me to see Pedro as a great champ in line with his days with the belt.

    ReplyDelete
  184. And by "no problem with Muraco" I mean I'm a fan. The guy was a great champ, I'll never forgot him eating the sandwich in the jobber match.

    ReplyDelete
  185. 5% seems abound right.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Since when has Nash cared about jobbing? He's laid down plenty of times.

    ReplyDelete
  187. But look and their success and ideas - DX, nWo, adult direction, no more gimmicks - they were the guys to listen to.

    ReplyDelete
  188. At least Punk had this snarky way of saying any stupid joke they would try to get him to say.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Hunter was also young, willing to learn and respectful, whereas Douglas had been shooting his mouth off for years and thought he knew it all.

    ReplyDelete
  190. They decided Vader couldn't go? And what push did Waltman have? He was a midcard underdog who's high point was tag title reigns that lasted under a week.

    ReplyDelete
  191. So we agree on Muraco - dude as a heel was AWESOME!.....now if you can tell me a Intercontinental title defense of The Mountie's that you enjoyed, or a TV squash even as Champ,I might see your point.....but you can't. One doesn't exist. That's my point. I say it again: 2 DAYS! It isn't about who you think sucks, more about who made the better I-C Champion. By your logic, there's no way Ric Flair should already be out. Same goes for Ricky Steamboat. In that case, Why not have Savio Vega advance....he was (literally) Champ for 30 seconds before they held the belt up.....or Shane Douglas.....while we're at it, how does Shawn Michaels BARELY beat C.M. Punk?

    ReplyDelete
  192. Bret Hart liked Waltman. He wasn't going to be a huge star but he was universally regarded as a talent.
