Rumble match and a potential "Cancel your WWE account" campaign

Hey Scott.

After tonight's Rumble match, it has to be clear to even McMahon or HHH's staunchest supporters that they are clearly out of touch with their viewers.  You could tell by the audience's reaction pretty much every potential winner fans would have been happy with.  Without a doubt Bryan, Ambrose and Ziggler would have gotten huge cheers as the guy to get the "Ending Undertaker's Streak Re-Rub", and I'm pretty sure they could have safely gone with Mizdow, Wyatt and maybe even Ryder.  And of course by the end, when reality had sunk in, the crowd made it known they'd even take fucking Rusev over Reigns.  But no, Vince and/or HHH knew better than we do what we actually want, and now Brock gets fed to Reigns.

I usually feel like people over-react about how bad the product has gotten.  NXT is enough to balance out the bad parts of RAW for me, and even in the same show I'm now complaining about they had a pretty enjoyable title match.  But screwing up the A story as bad as they are now is the last straw for me.  I know the only way WWE will actually listen to the fans is if we vote with our wallets, so I am canceling my WWE account as of tonight.

So it occurs to me, if you agree about the need to send a message to Vince and HHH, you could try to start a "Cancel Your Account" campaign on your site, to make it absolutely crystal clear what we as fans think they need to do.  The more people that can collectively each pull $120 a year out of WWE's coffers, the more likely they will actually make a lasting change to the product.

And to be clear, at least to me, the change that needs to happen is that whoever currently has the "final call" when it comes to important matters needs to step down immediately.  New blood is needed at the top level of the company.

Maybe it's a waste of time, maybe they are actually willing to go out of business before admitting they've lost touch, but for me at least the line has been crossed.  They get no more money from me until they can right this ship.

Yeah, but I love the WWE Network.  Why cut off your nose to spite your face?  It also allows me to go back and watch GOOD shows, like 1996 Nitros!

  1. I have been crying for the past hour non stop.

  2. It's entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  3. How about writing Donald Trump instead to persuade him to start a wrestling organization. The last time an egotistical billionaire decided to compete against Vince, it turned out well for wrestling fans.

    ReplyDelete
  4. "Why cut off your nose to spite your face?"

I don't know... WWE seems to do a good job of that every week.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I guess I'll throw in to the "campaign".

Your renewal changes have been processed. Your subscription to WWE Network will end on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

First day subscriber... cancelled. They've gotten a year of my money. That's plenty. I was expecting to start splitting my time between New Japan and WWE. The split will be a little uneven, I fear.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yeah, I can't get behind this. I actually need the Network more than ever, because I love wrestling, but I sure as shit ain't gonna watch RAW or TNA.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It's hard to argue with Scott's logic. I would personally love to see Vince, Steph, and HHH tossed out to the curb, penniless and forever forgotten from pro wrestling. But the Network is pretty awesome and, even if I don't watch the current product, it's still worth $9.99 per month to me.

    ReplyDelete
  8. problem is how many people will not have the network for wrestlemania; if it's just a few cancelling, then we are screwed

    ReplyDelete
  9. Or if you are a Nielsen family and are desperate, watch Destination America!

    ReplyDelete
  10. P.S. I am glad I at least missed most of it for the good shows tonight...anyone else watch Galavant? The season as it were ended tonight, but it ended up being pretty fun.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lost me at Mizdow and Ryder being okay candidates to win.

  13. The funny part is a Reigns win would have been awesome if they didn't write themselves into a corner with the "Rumble winner faces the WWE champion at Wrestlemania" thing. Heck, they were spouting "Main events Wrestlemania" all night. They should have pulled the plug on that meaning an automatic title shot and just had a co-main event with Reigns in a Shield three way.

Sadly, as much as I hated 2 world champions... Like last year, it would have worked perfectly right now.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If NXT is anything to go by, HHH is actually the lesser of the three evils. Plus he's done things Vince couldn't/wouldn't do, esp. regarding the HOF.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I want to cancel so badly because I've already recorded to DVD pretty much everything I want and they're not posting any NWA or Mid-South stuff but I can't because NXT is too good.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Then they need to find a way to screw him out of it and you already have a sneaky ass heel on the roster to do it (Rollins). And Rollins/Reigns was never properly blown off.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thing is, I'm not even maddest about reigns winning. He wasn't the right choice but at least he's young and someone new and they're trying to make a star.
What angers me is in 2015 they have kane and the fuckin big show dominating and eliminating people the crowd actually give a shit about like ziggler and Ambrose. Like seriously how can you fucking possibly think the crowd wants to pay their money to see these old stiffs dominate

    ReplyDelete
  18. Question: if the Network fails, what becomes of the classic programming. I mean, they've relented on some of the censoring because of it. Do they let things like the new deal with the pandas run out and we're back to blurs everywhere? And not that I care, but does Benoit go back in the dungeon?

    ReplyDelete
  19. having 2 world titles would have definitely helped

    ReplyDelete
  20. I demand that Triple H come over and console me while I cry.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would respond with a jpg attachment of my bare ass with spread cheeks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I really don't think that HHH is on board with Vince's direction. I think he is just biding his time until the old man croaks or becomes too senile to do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  23. A better way to spite them is for everyone to receive a refund on their Wrestlemania tickets

    ReplyDelete
  24. True, he appears to be the least of three evils, but given the option I would like to see him gone as well. He's been a top star for 20 years and deserving of (maybe) 2 of those years.

    ReplyDelete
  25. They'll just blame Bryan and Rollins anyway. Or the entire NXT roster.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Good for you. Welcome to the club!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Meanwhile, /r/SquaredCircle is claiming that the cancellation page crashed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Switch to Hulu instead.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is Batista winning Royal Rumble gonna be an annual tradition? Who will be next year's Batista?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think your definition and my definition of "entertainment" are very different.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, February is free, so if you like the old shows I would stay on, but really paying $9.99 a month for this dreck? Do you know how many starving children you could feed instead of financing VKM's personal playpen?

    ReplyDelete
  32. #CancelWWENetwork is apparently starting to trend.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kane or Big Show.

I canceled. I'll subscribe again in a few days (maybe weeks) because I DO like the Network and want it around, but it's a good way to send a message, and that senile out of touch old fuck needs a boiling hot message enema at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  35. And #cancelwwenetwork is legit trending on Twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  36. For some alternative perspective:

    https://www.facebook.com/BRWWE/posts/860143284046560

    ReplyDelete
  37. I canceled my Network subscription and I implore others to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I canceled my Network subscription. This show blew chunks.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm with Scott here. Why give up a fantastic archive of actually GREAT wrestling just as a "movement" that will do absolutely NOTHING to change Vince's mind anyhow?

    ReplyDelete
  40. If enough people cancel, I assure you we will get Vince's attention. he doesn't care about smarks booing at shows, but he does care about losing money.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I get "RoyalRumble" and "Reigns". Honestly. What region do you live in?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry, I just can't continue giving money to a company that has such open contempt for its audience. If I want NXT I can get it on Hulu Plus (I work Wednesday nights anyway). If I want to watch a Clash or SNME, I've got 'em on DVD. I'll just have to live without old PPVs.

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOL at Royal Rumble winner Zach Ryder.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I did notice lagging when I was watching an old Clash after the Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's a pretty defeatist attitude. Maybe I'm just a blip in the ocean, but the thing is the #1 worldwide trend on Twitter right now. If it effects change, I can be brought back. But we have to at least try.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Because they haven't actually put the things I wanted to watch on the archive.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Did Zack Ryder write this E-mail?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm looking at Worldwide Trends and it's #1.

    ReplyDelete
  49. For me it's also more of a moral crusade. Any company that has this level of blatant disrespect/contempt for their own audience does not deserve my hard earned money. Fuck their archive, I can watch what I want to watch on YouTube, DailyMotion, etc. anyway

    ReplyDelete
  50. I won't give up nxt and the archives so my subscription stays alive. That said, wow, I wonder what the fuck Vince is thinking after tonight. Sid tweeted that the fans were blocking the wrestlers cars in.

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's my thinking. I subscribe for the archive and nothing more. I'd be illegally streaming the PPVs if not for the network. So I won't be canceling...but I support the movement. Anything that will stick in Vince's craw is okay with me.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Now we're getting somewhere. I'm all for the end the reign of terror...terror...terrible shit that I have to see from those two 40+ jackoffs every week and the way they hold down a main event scene that might be interesting otherwise.

Want me to cheer Reigns? have him destroys both those fucks in 20 seconds apiece in a loser-never-appear-on-TV-in-any-form-ever-again-in-life match.

    ReplyDelete
  53. If you're not cancelling, you're not supporting shit. (Not that I would ever TELL anyone how to spend or not spend their money--that isn't my point. But don't say you're "supporting the movement" without actually doing anything.)

    ReplyDelete
  54. As Pete noted, if you change your regions settings for your trends, the very first item is, in fact, #CancelWWENetwork.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well I'll reword it to say I like that others are canceling to spite WWE but I won't be doing it myself.

    ReplyDelete
  56. At least wait until the next conference call drops and we get subscriber numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If the pattern holds, Rusev.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Vince thanks you for your support.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hulu Plus, yes, though you have to wait an extra day.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well In turn I thank Vince for WWF circa 1986-2002.....readily available to stream for the low price of....wait for it....$9.99! $9.99! $9.99!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Agreed. Such an insult that ziggler and Ambrose get treated like a joke and they keep these two around for 20 years and continue to push them

    ReplyDelete
  62. The Beast vs The Broski!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Problem being that canceling network subscriptions en masse won't be hurting Vince's wallet - network's not bringing in as much? Time to cut back on pyro or cut the wrestlers' pay because it clearly their fault this isn't working. Nothing's changing direction until Vince is dead and buried.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Pretty fucking stupid to cancel WWE network if ya ask me and my guess is half the folks on here are full of shit about either legit cancelling the WWENet or even having it in the first place....

    ReplyDelete
  65. Isn't that the point of the network? An excuse to put out garbage but who cares cause you can watch the attitude era? This is exactly what wwe wants. A way to make money off the "hardcore" fans who complain about the product today, as well as the 20 children/ladies who enjoyed the beginning of the Roman Empire.

I kinda feel like if we don't make a stand now there's never going to be a change. So maybe give it up til it changes. Or stop complaining about how shitty it is when you are giving them money to keep the status quo.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Just binge on Nitros every time WWE gives away a free month.

    ReplyDelete
  67. You don't NEED the Network. For the price of about a year of the Network, you can go to a second hand store, or hell, eBay or Amazon, and buy all of the great DVDs that WWE has put out in the past, and make your OWN network. They've put out some stellar anthologies in the past, and those are what I watch these days. Reminds me of the halcyon days before HHH/Steph/Vince were actively determined to destroy the product through horrid writing, narcissistic booking, and senile creative choices.

    ReplyDelete
  68. If you were a shareholder right now would you not be contemplating suing wwe for incompetence? I'm sure there aren't many big funds holding WWE stock but can't some major shareholders start a class action suit?

This is a public company that puts their own egos before making money and it's absolutely insane.

    ReplyDelete
  69. ...and his idiot daughter and her doofus son-in-law are gone, as well.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Cena or HHH....maybe Steph, if they REALLY want to boil people's bunions.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It's still real to you, damnit?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Good god, its an entertainment company, they can say wait until the entire story unfolds....

    ReplyDelete
  73. HA! "Appreciate the fans..." yeah, fucking right. Just like Conservatives appreciate Obama.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Mine said it would end on February 3rd when I canceled.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Venture Brothers just broke my mind. I'll need to rewatch a ton of old episodes to remember what the hell happened.

Mainly the entire Investors plot and possibly the Guild stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I canceled. There are only so many ways that we can let the company know what we think - by reacting at live events or on social media, or by not supporting the company financially. I have no idea if my cancellation will actually make a difference. But it makes me feel better anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  77. They've been away for so long, I had to do the same thing myself. When is the show coming back proper?

    ReplyDelete
  78. The thing is: Most of the stuff that you can watch on the Network? If you REALLY want to see it, there's always the slightly shady, perhaps the slightly more xtreme, backwaters of the internet. After having been a day 1 Network subscriber, I'm just done. I'm tired of giving these people $10 of my money every month only to wind up either bored or just plain mad. I don't care HOW great Roman Reigns hair is, this is just...no.

I cancelled 15 minutes ago. I'm officially over it.

    ReplyDelete
  79. NXT is on Hulu, if you only care about that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. And they are giving another free month away soon!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Sadly, that's probably true, but it would lead to some very uncomfortable moments with investors, some of whom are demanding a new CEO

    ReplyDelete
  82. Even if you don't want to use xtreme shady sites which have darn near everything on the Network, a lot of the PPVs spread to common free torrent sites, as well.

Plus, NXT is on Hulu if you only care about that. And you can NXT on said shady sites before WWE posts them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Tonight. Season 6 premiered tonight. Hour long episode that was fun/cool/WTF.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Apparently, there's another free month offer coming for February.

If so, then it's pretty fucking stupid to NOT cancel the Network and sign back up for free.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'd like to think things will be better when Vince is dead, but it will just be taken over by his doofus son in law.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'd rather do something that MIGHT effect change (cancel the Network) rather than something that DEFINITELY WON'T.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Because people used to have something called "principles".

    ReplyDelete
  88. Is that written in stone?

    ReplyDelete
  89. No. But what's the worst that can happen? You cancel, no free month, you sign up again. What are they going to do, not take your money?

    ReplyDelete
  90. The idea they should have called an audible and had Rusev win it... wrestling fans live in their own ridiculous little bubble, don't they? That said, at this point I want Bryan to win the title again solely so I can see his support drop, the ratings drop again, and his storylines to suck. Then maybe people would realise that he's not the answer to falling business anymore than Reigns is.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm sure that the shareholders are all secretly butt hurt Daniel Bryan fans.

    ReplyDelete
  92. So basically WWE can shit in your mouth, but its ok, HBK-Mankind was *****, and you need to see it again!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Subscribe to the New Japan network then.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Kane was the last eliminated in 2001 and Big Show in 2000. You know... 14-15 years ago.

That'd be like Superstar Billy Graham lasting til the final two in the 1990 Rumble or the Iron Shiek getting eliminated by Austin in 1998.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I don't care if he's the answer to failing business- I DO care that he's one of the few entertaining bits on an otherwise miserable show AND the crowd adore him. In any other form of entertainment, the most popular aspect of the show/film is maximised for profit and/or to entertain the fans. Not in the WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'm indignant too. Holding down young guys is Kevin Nash's job, not Big Show and Kane.

    ReplyDelete
  97. HHH's nose is so huge that it'll take years of cutting before it becomes the size of a normal person's.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Cole: "Ladies and gentlemen, WWE is the number one trend worldwide right now on Twitter!"
    Lawler: "Really? What's the hashtag?"
JBL: "It dun matter King! Just continue having fun with Maggle!"

    ReplyDelete
  99. I don't really see how cancelling the Network helps to be quite honest. I think it makes a bigger statement if people stopped going to shows altogether and the attendance figures plummeted to below 5000 in a 15000-seater arena. A mostly empty arena is something that might cause Vince immediate concerns, especially if it's a big market like NYC or Chicago.

  100. Or go really old skool. Stop watching RAW/Smackdown, boycott WWE sponsors (and tell them why...), sell your WWE stock, support one of the many alternatives ... UFC, TNA, NJPW, Lucha Underground, ROH.

    ReplyDelete
  101. The story is going mainstream.

    http://time.com/3682093/cancel-wwe-network-royal-rumble/

    ReplyDelete
  102. I cancelled the network right after the rumble tonight, before apparently the website crashed, although that might be more Vince pulling the plug.

I have already watched what I want out of the archives 100 times over. The only justification left is the PPV's, and they have turned them into complete garbage. I either know whats going to happen months in advance, or I have to sit though a TV ELECTROCUTION in the main event. Tonight was the perfect example.....the whole building knew the result all the way down to the Rock run-in.

    ReplyDelete
  103. The easy way is to cut the writers and get real wrestling bookers.

    ReplyDelete
  104. #CancelWWENetwork is trending, Maggle!

    ReplyDelete
  106. You really want WWE to change? Stop watching RAW! 4 million of you do it every week and it's showing them that no matter what they do people still tune in.

They just told you we don't care and how are you all going to react? By watching RAW and still attending the shows. Wanna make a difference? Watch something else!

    ReplyDelete
  107. And that would be THE most immediate thing to do. USA would pressure them to cut the shit. Whoever thought last night was horseshit needs to skip tonight's show.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I predict we will see RAWs largest rating in quite some time and the audience will only then have themselves to blame for the rest of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm still hoping they're forced to cancel tonight because of the storm at this point

    ReplyDelete
  110. Couldn't agree more. I was excited for about five minutes upon learning the network had become available in my part of the world, then I remembered that the product sucks at the moment and there's nothing on there of interest to me that I don't already own on dvd (not interested in old Nitros). The rumble sealed my lack of interest.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I stopped watching Raw, I preemptively cancelled the UK network by not ordering it in the first place, and the only money I spend on pro wrestling goes on New Japan World. Me doing my bit hasn't seemed to stop Vince being a fucking idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  112. "Roman Reigns made it to Time, ladies and gentlemen."

    ReplyDelete
  113. I already cancelled the network but that's because I figured out with these 30 day windows that I can generally get two PPVs if I time it right so I'm getting Royal Rumble / Fast Lane in one and Mania / Extreme Rules in another. No need to pay for those buffer months with no major shows.

    ReplyDelete
  114. It needs a mass of people for change to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Cancelled mine. If the product gets better I'll sign back up. Bothers me that apparently they're the only subscription based service that doesn't ask you to submit a reason when you cancel, because I would have lit them up. Network just says "We're sorry to see you go" and that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I ain't watched a full RAW since April and don't plan on starting any time soon. Reading results and YouTube'ing the noteworthy segments is enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  117. The words they're looking for is "lockstep", Johnny. If you aren't in it with them, you must be shunned like Charlie the unicorn. Now get in that cave and let them have your kidney.

And before anyone starts, I never had the network, never wanted the network, and don't care about the network. I don't watch it live anymore either. I just think Scott's reviews are more fun when there's a good product to review, so I support cancelling by others if it would help the good reviews come back.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessJanuary 26, 2015 at 5:01 AM

Scott's reviews are 100 percent more fun when the product is shit.

  119. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessJanuary 26, 2015 at 5:09 AM

Much like Spike in the last episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "I wanna see how it ends," so I'm definitely in until Mania. But after that? I don't know anymore. We'll see what happens. At least I have Prime Time Wrestling now. That's worth $10 in itself, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Yeah, I care so little for WWE right now that I'm just in it for the laughs and chaos. I would have been pissed about tonight a couple years ago tho.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Eh, I've spent $9.99 on dumber crap

    ReplyDelete
  122. All you've got to do is put a banana in your ear...

    ReplyDelete
  123. My first reaction after Daniel Bryan was tossed so early was I was going to cancel the network. But I love NXT and I love that I can watch any of the old PPV's at anytime on a whim. I also got to see a great title match last night. Yeah Vince is so out of touch that I don't he will ever get back at this point but it's still such a great deal

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'll continue to watch the Network because I want to show WWE "Hey! I'm willing to spend money on the stuff you do right!" So I'll pay for the Network but I won't spend a dime on merch, live events, anything related to the current product.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Not is on Hulu next day
