  1. 1st person to vote, and I voted Bruno.

  2. I don't know how much of a storyteller Bruno is, but that's an era that you really never see get covered. I'm voting Bruno.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Neither did Ted Dibiase (unless you count his North American title reign), Jake Roberts, or Hacksaw Jim Duggan. The fact none of them never won the IC title is more surprising than Undertaker not winning it.

  4. "If The Mountie wins this tournament, I thank cultstatus."

    FTFY

That 2 out of 3 falls match, fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Another sad attempt to discredit the greatness of The Mountie.

    ReplyDelete
  7. There's no joking around when it comes to the Mountie's in-ring work. He's terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  8. You need to get that checked out.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hart vs. Steamboat in the first round? How exactly was this bracket seeded?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Mohammed. You don't have to stay with Danielle. You can go back to Tunisia. You do not have to raise those girls and you do not have to lay with that beast of a woman. Jesus Christ, she looks like she smells awful.

    ReplyDelete
  11. By the Guinness World Records for biggest shit?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Did they ever show the entire match though? I remember the little bits and pieces airing on Superstars, but don't remember the whole match.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bruno is probably the BEST Timeline KC's done. He knows his shit, and has some awesome stories/insight. VOTE FOR HIM!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mountie wins clean with a small package. He then starts beating Bret with the belt till Piper makes the save. That's all that was shown on TV.

As for the "flu" thing. It obviously was just an excuse made by WWF to justify why Bret Hart, in the midst of a big push, would lose to perpetual mid-carder The Mountie. If I'm not mistaken, Bret was negotiating his contract at the time so they took the belt off him during the negotiations with the plan to put it back on him at WM8 against Piper.

As a Bret mark, I was always bummed that he wasn't in the 1992 Royal Rumble. He's the only relevant superstar of that era not in it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. By cumulative length of title reign.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The Mountie was champion for TWO DAYS. He shouldn't even be in this tournament!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Out of the 4, I voted for Rikishi. I'm not ashamed to admit that. One thing that he had over Mountie? He won his first title defense. Oh yeah, and heat. He had a lot more of that during his reign than Mountie. Who was also a comedy character I might add. I am voting based on the merits of each entrant's reign. In the case of multi-winners I'm voting based on their most memorable or best reign. Fuck Mountie.

    ReplyDelete
  18. He won a wildcard match for the 64th spot.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I worry for Jericho.

    ReplyDelete
  20. That picture of Stacey is a great reminder or how amazingly hot she was/is.

    ReplyDelete
  21. He definitely gonna beat Moralas.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm sure when no-one came up to Bret's hotel room to ask to see his match with the Mountie that Bret's feelings were hurt and asked Vince not to show the footage because of it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If the quarterfinals came down to Bret vs Shawn, Jericho vs Eddie, Savage vs Austin and Honky vs The Rock, I would have no idea how to vote on any of those. Total coin flips.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I always thought that *was* the whole match.

    ReplyDelete
  25. In my home, we literally have it as a rule, "We do NOT diss The Mountie" -- my girl just looked over in bed at my laptop and asked "Is someone knocking The Mountie?" with sleepy anger.

This was introduced after I'd started showing her classic WWF stuff. There was an incident when we reached the '92 Rumble.

About a week later, after a similar incident, a second rule was added, "We do NOT diss Repo Man".

Any other wrestlers are fair game for a trashin'.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Fun fact: All Canadians sing the Mountie's theme song to each other as a standard greeting. No lie.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Finally a grassroots movement that I can get behind!

    ReplyDelete
  28. BOOOOOOOOO! BOOOOO!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm going for the Bruno one

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hulk Hogan was at times mildly overrated!

I'm sorry to have to go there, but I feel very strongly about this.

    ReplyDelete
  31. shawn, jericho, savage, honky

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why did they even take the belt off Bret? You can still easily get to Hart vs. Piper for Wrestlemania without the title swap and meaningless transitional reign.

Why the Mountie? He was a comedy mid-carder, despite his talents. If Bret insisted upon a Canadian transitional champ, how about Rick Martel? He at least had more credibility than Mountie. Weird times

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, I wouldn't mind if the pace was slower. I'm literally going to bed, waking up and finding that voting has closed on entire rounds of the tag-team tournament. And I'm a light sleeper.

    ReplyDelete
  34. no matter which way you seeded it, you will always get one tough match-up.

By how many days they held the title seemed the most fair

    ReplyDelete
  35. I see. This answers the question I just asked above. I forgot about the whole "renegotiating his contract" part. I guess taking the belt off him makes more sense in that case.

    ReplyDelete
  36. that Rumble was the greatest announcing performance of all time
Heenan; "I once wrestled with a fever of 102, no big deal"
Monsoon; "WHAT!?! 102 and you'd be dead!"

    ReplyDelete
  37. Disregard, I found my answer to the first one. I'm still at a loss about the Mountie part though.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That segment where Lord Alfred narrates footage of the match might be a Coliseum Video exclusive feature on the 1992 Rumble release as Gorilla's pitch to it after the New Foundation vs. Orient Express match is definitely a post-production voiceover.
According to the Observer, the Update/Special Report segments on Superstars and Challenge the day after the match happened were actually taped several days earlie. If either Bret or Mountie missed the show and the match never actually happened, the plan apparently would have been to just claim it happened anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He's having you on. it was Bob Holly and the 1-2-3 Kid.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Why didn't the New Foundation remain a team? Was Anvil not available long-term or something?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anvil was fired... again

    ReplyDelete
  42. The shot of the Mountie valiantly reversing the inside cradle on Bret for the win and the IC title is my screen saver.

    ReplyDelete
  43. At least you didn't vote for Test.

    ReplyDelete
  44. What was awesome was that the article in WWE magazine about the match and title scene had photos that really made it look like Bret was sick as he wrestled.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It's a shame. You had Owen, the Black Heart, and Anvil, the Blacksmith. That's got to be at least six months of 94/95 WWF Raw angles right there.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anyone have a link to the Mountie's win or the clips of it?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mountie and his brother had been in the company for a long time, I've always assumed it was a belated nod of recognition for his years of service and entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Easily. You could listen to the audio of that entire PPV as a mp3 and be wildly entertained. Best commentary performance bar none.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Fuck yeah that footage exists, and its right on the rumble baby!!! Come on now emailer!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. big mountie fan here!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Was it true Bret demanded they make up a 102 degree fever to explain away a loss to The Mountie...that's so Raven. And Bret.

    ReplyDelete
  52. And then they make you feel bad for thinking that by having a miscarriage angle. #becausewcw

    ReplyDelete
  53. Probably Bill Goldberg

    ReplyDelete
  54. Lucha Underground needs to sign Los Fabulousos. Stacey. Silver King and EL DANDY~!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Exactly. I thought they could use Stacey as their version of Sable/Sunny but the moment she became popular they gave her a gimmick to make her UNSEXY. #wcwruinseverything only they could make freaking Stacey Keibler un-attractive.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I voted for Bam Bam, at least he came in a respectable fourth place. And Norman winning means we got to see a Stacy Keibler picture, so I can't really complain.
