Vince Russo to Lucha Underground?
Russo is heading to Los Angeles this weekend to speak with Lucha Underground. The public story is that he is going there to interview talent for his podcast. However, some in the company, such as Executive Producer Eric Van Wagenan, have been pushing to get Russo into the company. However, others are not keen on him besides his track record, stating that he has no knowledge of Lucha Libre, but do expect Russo himself to make a push for a job.

DON'T DO IT LUCHA!
ReplyDeleteIt'd be awesome if he handed TEW screenshots as part of his CV.
ReplyDeleteI love the dot com features. Kinda hard to fathom they work under the same roof as the rest of the company.
ReplyDeleteDid you skip the first paragraph?
ReplyDelete"Some people like Vince Russo, some people don't. He may be angling for a job, or he might just be doing interviews for his podcast."
ReplyDeleteSeriously, every day we mention Vince Russo anywhere is another day away from his just disappearing entirely. Especially when the news is this stupid.
That's more hilarious than depressing like our usual booking and lockerroom updates.
ReplyDeleteLOL this can't be real:
ReplyDelete"Thousands of fans in Bolivia were so upset by a recent time slot change for The Simpsons that they took to the streets in protest.
The New York Post reports that these fans -- some of whom dressed in costume as their favorite Simpsons characters -- flooded the streets of La Paz, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba to demand that Bolivian network Unitel return their beloved TV series to its old time slot."
It's hilarious that he's convinced he's getting hired.
ReplyDelete"People never learn,do they".
ReplyDeleteFTFY
As bad as Russo is, I'd still take him over the Hogan/Bischoff combo.
ReplyDeleteI think doing what he's doing now is the extent of what his contributions should be. Interview some folks, tell stories from when you were relevant, stop getting TNA in so much trouble.
ReplyDeleteHey hey let's not jump the gun folks. Russo hasn't actually been hired yet. That said the professional wrestling industry is run mostly by morons that never learn....
ReplyDeleteMore like Yabba Dabba Don't.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until Dixie hears about this and gives Russo three times his asking price yo come back to TNA.
ReplyDeletehttp://imgur.com/TCzexY6
ReplyDeleteUSA! USA! USA!
ReplyDelete*Slow clap*
ReplyDeleteRusso also was the one who "Accidentally Sent" an email to PWInsider about how he worked for TNA, when Dixie Carter and Russo himself was lying about him still working for the company to Spike. Who knows what to believe when it comes to Russo.
ReplyDeleteThe original story has photos of the protest:
ReplyDeletehttp://nypost.com/2015/02/10/bolivians-protest-en-masse-to-bring-back-simpsons/
It's worth noting that the NY Post is owned by Fox, which of course broadcasts the Simpsons, so it makes sense why they're running with this article. It's nothing new in journalism, of course.
The Nasty Boys just beat down Johnny Mundo backstage but Bubba the Love Sponge will find out who did it.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder McMahon gave Russo a lot of free reign.
ReplyDeleteWatching Starrcade 91. I'm actually a fan of the Lethal Lottery.
ReplyDeleteAnother news bit: Meltzer says ROH is planning a June PPV on a Friday night that will go head-to-head with a taped Impact:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.pwmania.com/roh-reportedly-planning-to-run-live-pay-per-view-against-tna-impact-wrestling-in-june-from-nyc
The Most Dangerous Man in the World, Steve Blockman!
ReplyDeleteFor the love of all that is good and holy in this world, please do NOT let Russo get his stench on Lucha Underground and ruin what is the best wrestling program on TV.
ReplyDeleteThe Friday Night Wars begin in earnest.
ReplyDeleteThe fucked up part is he might be right. Our only success stories in the modern era are Rey and Eddie. Who are both American.
ReplyDeleteROH's PPVs draw at most 7,000-10,000 buys. Impact has been getting about 500,000 in their timeslot. Not really a competition.
ReplyDeleteIn McMahon's defense, Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio did quite well in the post-Russo WWE. Of course, that probably doesn't outweigh the Mexicools riding lawnmowers to the ring, but you get my point.
ReplyDeleteHe'll be World champion in six months.
ReplyDeleteBoth combined would be slain against Say Yes to the Dress!
ReplyDeleteMike Graham is the worst. He intentionally fucks with Liger in this match.
ReplyDeleteHe also looks like an old lady. In 1991.
ReplyDeleteHe told guys to remove their masks, thereby removing any sort of merchandising possibilities or uniqueness.
ReplyDeleteNEXT
So many questions...
ReplyDeleteWho is doing Barney's voice these days? That guy is fucking HORRIBLE. A chimp could do a better Barney.
How is John Cena-stone even a pun?
Where did the Boulder Twins name come from?
You couldn't come up with anything for Taker so you just used his regular ringname? Really?
When did Vince McMahon tell Rey Mysterio to remove his mask?
ReplyDeleteRIP Lucha Underground. It was nice while it lasted.
ReplyDeleteThey might be American-born, but "Mexico" is/was a big part of their character and image.
ReplyDeleteHow long does Russo wait before unleashing the pregnancy angle?
ReplyDeleteDanimal's Dangerous Daily Update is up now at
ReplyDeletewww.danimalcrossing.com
Tune in later this afternoon for a Cheesy Smothered Charbroiled Patty Meal, TV dinner by Banquet review.
TGIF!!! Let's have some fun out there today!
Which was the period of TNA that had Bischoff & Hogan but no Russo? Like mid-2012 to the end of 2013?
ReplyDeleteHey WWF1987, is there a place keeping a table of the Impact viewing numbers? I'd like to see how they've been doing.
ReplyDeleteNo, I meant Russo.
ReplyDeleteWe all know about McMahon's tomfoolery. Kerwin White.
NEXT!
The Lucha Underground guys pretty strongly shot this down I think. They could be lying of course, but I can't see any reason why they'd want to hire Russo for any kind of writing position. TNA did it because that was the style of TV they wanted. Lucha Underground is completely different.
ReplyDeleteWas watching the Fantastic Four cartoon (the most recent one looped on CN/Nick sometimes) and the way Johnny Storm dismisses people when they apply to replace Thing is awesome. As well as his scream when introduced to She-Hulk.
ReplyDeleteI think the Russo's rumors have a already been denied by the creative staff of Lucha Underground. Its like the false rumors about JR working for them from a while ago
ReplyDeleteVince probably doesn't understand "those internet tube things" enough to check on them.
ReplyDeleteI've got the official numbers from Destination America over at my blog www.danimalcrossing.com and Destination America is extremely happy with the 276K viewers they averaged for the month of January for the 25-54 age group. They are also very happy with the 345K they averaged for the same age group on February 6th while earning a .85 rating. It really isn't a contest between a ROH PPV and TNA's network show.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought. Not only did McMahon see the merchandising potential with Mysterio, he tried to make a second Mysterio with Sin Cara. Remember the rumored attempt in trying to break the world record of people wearing masks at WrestleMania with a never-happened Mysterio vs. Sin Cara match?
ReplyDeleteRusso is an idiot, but it wasn't his call for Rey to take off his mask. That happened in February 1999 -- way before Russo jumped to WCW.
This might be considered blasphemy to some, but the Flintstones was never a good cartoon. It is historical and everybody watched it, but it was boring even as a kid. The only thing worse than old-school Flintstones is new-school Flintstones. I didn't even know the franchise was still alive.
ReplyDeleteStick to harmful children's vitamins and breakfast cereals, Freddy.
Wasn't that Bischoff's call?
ReplyDeleteI can't find a table. I've just been going off week to week reports. Last week they had There is this press release from yesterday, though: http://corporate.discovery.com/discovery-news/destination-america-scores-big-first-month-premier/
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of weird for AA to agree to exchange talent with TNA while they are currently backing up their own TV show in america.
ReplyDeleteShoot, you might be right.
ReplyDeleteStill, I'll blame Russo - he's got enough black marks on his resume; what's one more?
Hopefully Russo can convince them to wrestle a mat based style, and lose the masks. Then it'll be wrestling.
ReplyDeleteIt's just stoopid cold out today, but at least it's a long weekend and we are closing the office early.
I think you could make an argument for Tajiri.
ReplyDeleteMight be an attempt to get some of their guys noticed by Impact's audience before the TV program premieres.
ReplyDeleteKind of like in the old days of sitcoms when a character from a new series would show up on an established one. They did that like six times on Happy Days
From around 2010-2013, Hogan and Bischoff were involved in the booking. Russo was removed as a writer in late 2011. Pritchard came in right after Russo got canned. He was awful as well.
ReplyDeleteWatched the first ever Flair/Hogan match earlier from MSG in 91. Really fun match. Crazy that Flair was getting babyface pops against Hogan.
ReplyDeleteIf they didn't get to Rock to at least make a camero, everyone is fired.
ReplyDeleteThey've gone up each week
ReplyDeleteHmm... yeah that's a good start, but not totally concrete. Thanks though!
ReplyDeleteGet ready to head to work and have a flat. Downside is having to spend money on a new tire. Upside is miss two hours of work.
ReplyDeleteTires are fucking expensive too. And don't cheap out for a crappy set. Never worth it when it comes to tires.
ReplyDeleteHad that problem this week too. Only I almost sideswiped a state trooper as I was going out of control doing 60 on the highway.
ReplyDeleteLast 3 shows from the Observer:
ReplyDelete6/2 First Show: 394,000
Replay: 145,000
30/1 First Show: 338,000
Replay: 153,000
23/1 First Show: 517,000
Replay: 85,00
I always liked it too. I always wanted the battle royal to lead to title shots: winner world, runner up US, 3rd TV 4th and 5th team up for tag. Maybe too Russo-ish though with the last one leading to wacky tag partners. I always wanted the runner up in these things to get something though. Like Rumble runner up gets the IC title shot at Mania. Makes that belt more important. Right now Rusev would be trying to unify US and IC.
ReplyDeleteI started buying used tires from reputable dealers because I bought a set of top of the line ones and one blew out on me withing a month. Took it back to the dealer and they told me I was SOL b/c the puncture was in the wall of the tire and the warranty didn't cover for that.
ReplyDeleteI've got a slow leak in one of mine right now. Buying tires sucks.
ReplyDeleteWent down massively on the 30th, recovered somewhat the week after.
ReplyDeleteBad version of DDP/shitty Mike Graham vs Terrible Bill Kazmier/awesome Jushin Liger. Shockingly it is not that great of a match.
ReplyDeleteInaccurate. Those numbers are off.
ReplyDeleteThis was last week;'s ratings:
According to Show Buzz Daily, last week’s TNA Lockdown edition of Impact Wrestling averaged 525,000 viewers, a 22% increase from the previous week’s show, which took in 431,000 viewers.
The replay was also up from the previous week, as that show took in 166,000 viewers, an 8% increase from last week’s 153,000 viewers. Total viewers for the show on Friday was 691,000 viewers, up 18% from last week.
In the 90s there was a band, or more like a dance group I guess, that had a hit with a song called Fat Boy. The also did a remake of Sexual Healing. I've had that Fat Boy song stuck in my head all morning but I can't remember the name of the group - any help?
ReplyDeleteWrong.
ReplyDeleteFrom 1/30:
Friday’s Impact rating drew 431,000 viewers.
The replay at 11pm eastern did 153,000 total viewers so the total for Friday was 584000 viewers.
Impact: Unlocked that aired at 7pm eastern did 102,000 viewers.
Great Muta, Del Rio and Tajiri were all over at various points in the US.
ReplyDeleteMax-a-Million ?
ReplyDeleteI want to see TNA's reaction when they find out that AAA already has a talent deal with GFW.
ReplyDeleteI also want to see their reaction when Alberto turns them down AGAIN because he can actually make money going anywhere else.
Well lucha underground, you were fun while it lasted.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens when GFW reaches a talent deal with TNA?
ReplyDeleteMinds gonna be blown
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteI used to hang out with this little Cambodian criminal who thought that Fat Boy song was about the greatest ever made. For some reason he popped into my mind this morning and I've been humming that ever since.
Would be awesome if all the companies started working together. It would be the only way there would be competition to WWE. Imagine the PPVs they could put on? TNA matches, ROH matches, NJPW matches, AAA matches, all on one show.
ReplyDeleteRey is from San Diego and Eddie from El Paso. That's close enough in my books
ReplyDeleteDave's figures do appear to be different, but 30/1 would still be down from 23/1.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, especially where we live. Have to get the good ones.
ReplyDeleteDave's figures are way off. Not surprising. Show Buzz produces the actual numbers each week. Dave just reduces from that.
ReplyDeleteToo many egos,I don't think it will work.Plus, ROH fans will be livid at the mere thought of working with TNA.
ReplyDeleteThat's what i would like to see too, like a super inter-promotional card. I thought that's what Jarrett was trying to do with GFW
ReplyDeleteObserver's numbers are correct dude.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens when GFW becomes an actual company?
ReplyDeleteSadly, that's true, but you could also play that fact in a storyline, and have heel from TNA against ROH babyface
ReplyDeleteFor 30/1, The Torch reports 323k initial, 117k for the replay. There don't appear to be consistent figures anywhere. Is this a problem relating to DA?
ReplyDeleteI went with the best ones they have
ReplyDeleteFat Boy go round and round...
ReplyDeleteAnd nobody knows who the father is because they all wear masks!
ReplyDeleteKeller's numbers are more in line with Dave's. What do you think this Show Buzz Daily is getting numbers from?
ReplyDeleteBut since most of their guys are already on Lucha Underground, it's diffucult to imagine them appearing also on Destination America, but maybe they can work something out.
ReplyDeleteBut he was responsible for every good idea WCW had! Some people think he shot himself but the truth is his head was so jammed with great ideas it exploded.
ReplyDeleteObserver is reporting households, WWF87 is using the total viewers number. Both are right.
ReplyDeleteRiding to the ring on a donkey.
ReplyDeletelol his figures are exactly the same as showbuzz.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention the Simpsons, because I read an article on Yahoo on how there's a fan theory going on that Homer has been in a coma because of that prank Bart pulled on him on the clip show episode. Which is why all the episodes went from relatively sitcom-y to full on cartoon because Homer is dreaming the whole thing
ReplyDeleteAh okay. What do we normally use for Raw? The 3.6 million or whatever from this week that was reported in the Observer I presume is households as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd we all discovered that Rey Mysterio Jr looked like a 14 years old boy
ReplyDeleteROH did the same thing with Jigsaw, some people are just bettter of with a mask.
ReplyDeleteThanks! So it's still on average less than 50% the Spike numbers, but on a network that is in 50% as many homes. Those are solid numbers then.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're comparing two different source metrics. There's a snapshot view and an average
ReplyDeleteActually TNA seems to be doing fine since leaving Spike, their shows have been from ok to good and their fan followed them on the new station.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the tag team gauntlet, and it added a lot to the Reigns/DB fire. Daniel Bryan wrestling 40 mins every week gets a thumbs up from me!
ReplyDelete"Stone Age" Steve Austin you mean.
ReplyDeleteyeah there wasn't much to the Flinstones after the awesome intro.
ReplyDeleteGah. John Cement is actually pretty good. the best I could do was John Ce-gneiss, but I felt that no child would get that. Or most adults.
ReplyDeleteIt had it's moments.
ReplyDeleteJohn Cena-stone makes me want to Inoki Slap everyone involved.
ReplyDeleteDO BETTER.
John Cement is so much better than John Cenastone it's not even funny.
ReplyDeleteIt's been years since a new Flintstones project. Warner Brothers has a handle on their semi-annual Scooby-Doo movies but there are so many other characters in the Hanna-Barbara library besides Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry. It would be nice to see new productions featuring those characters. Like it or not the future of the Flintstones rests on this production. Personally I would get the crew who did Flintstones: On the Rocks back together and have them do some new Flintstones animation. That movie captured the feel of the first two seasons perfectly. The versions of the characters from the later seasons is more marketable but if they could just use the first two seasons as a template along with what worked in later seasons (please no Gazoo) the Flintstones could be a viable property. I would age Pebbles and Bam Bam to elementary school age and really explore the Flintstones and Rubbles as parents since that was never really explored in the original show, plus stories of trying to maintain lives of their own outside of parenthood would actually be a good premise to explore.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Warner do something with Hanna-Barbara characters besides Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry. Imagine a modern version of Space Ghost as a serious superhero character (I love Coast to Coast but I love to see the superhero version again).
I hope they don't have Bryan and Reigns even care about the tag titles, but if they do win them, I see them losing them to the Ascension in a fluky manner.
ReplyDeleteI love the voice work of Kevin Michael Richardson but he's not the right voice for Barney Rubble. It seems like they are trying to go for a season one style voice within a season five or six type of storyline. There's a recent the approach to Barney's voice changed after the first season. While an Alan Reed style Fred voice is perfect since it sounds so real, they should stick with a Barney voice that sounds more like his post-season two voice.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably the last time we're going to hear CM Punk in a WWE approved project in the near future.
ReplyDeleteThere actually was a Flintstones/Jetsons crossover.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jetsons_Meet_the_Flintstones
Yeah they are on par with what me and my friends used to meme about the Flintstones: just stick "rock" or "asaurus" at the end of every word. Speaking of which, Brodus Clay was still employed when they made this, no? Soooooooo.....
ReplyDeleteI think so but I don't think he was used even though he would have been perfect for this movie.
ReplyDeleteJohn Pleistocena is RIGHT THERE YOU ASSHOLES, TAKE A GODDAMN COLLEGE CLASS IF YOU WANT ME TO TAKE YOUR FLINSTONES MOVIE SERIOUSLY
ReplyDeleteBarney's kid Bam Bam made a pretty good professional wrestler. You might know him as Ric Flair.
ReplyDeleteYabba Dabba, friend.
ReplyDeleteBy some weird twist of fate, I watched it last night with my daughter.
I have always said this. I ask people to remind me of one single joke that they remember from the show and they always just say "ugh... Damn, you're right. Good point".
ReplyDeleteI have never seen someone that's this knowledgeable about the Flintstones. It's like those people that actually listen to that happy, upbeat Zooey Deschanel sounding music in the background of cleaning product commercials. You know they have to be out there, you just don't think you'll ever meet one.
ReplyDeleteCM Punk Rock works, the guy doing Fred's voice sounds like he gives less of a fuck then Dan Castellanetas current Homer "yawning through a mouthful of $100 bills" Simpson.
ReplyDeleteThey did a series with Pebbles and Bam Bam at high school age years ago, it was awful.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the betting it was initially John Stona before someone pointed out what that sounded like?
ReplyDeleteMy knowledge is mostly from watching reruns of the show throughout the years. If you really want to see knowledgeable hang around the Toon Zone boards.
ReplyDeleteIt jumped the shark with Gazoo and that was decades before I was born. The show was a caveman spoof on a 1950's sitcom outside of seeing dinosaurs being used as vehicles and house appliances not much for a kid to enjoy, same with Top Cat really. I don't get why they didn't do WWE Whacky Races, that would have been better.
ReplyDeleteNaked Obsideon.
ReplyDelete"Cold Stone" Steve Austin
ReplyDeleteWe are doing the wacky tag champs thing again, aren't we? *sigh*
ReplyDeleteNow I just want ice cream.
ReplyDeleteHey now, the Jetsons were great.
ReplyDeleteIt was an inoffensive and uncomplicated way to spend an half-hour. I don't think anyone's comparing it to Shakespeare.
ReplyDeleteAustin should have done commercials for cold stone.
ReplyDelete"This Stone Cold for Cold Stone. If you want me to open up a can of whoop ass on this ice cream give me a hell yeah! What would up you like?"
"Reese's pieces"
"What?"
Resse's pieces"
"What?"
"Reese's pieces"
"What?"
At least it was something different. "Gauntlet" matches can be fun.
ReplyDeleteThey could get ballsy and have Balor/Itami show up on Raw to randomly challenge and win the belts
ReplyDelete
