BoD Daily Update

Reasons For Samoa Joe Leaving TNA

The main reason for Joe leaving TNA is that they were unable to match what he was making on his previous contract, which had recently expired, and that Joe had made the decision. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Joe and TNA had been negotiating all the way to the end but were unable to find a common ground to make both sides happy. Johnson also reported that both sides were friendly throughout the negotiation process as well. Another lesser reason for Joe's departure, according to Johnson, is that TNA is seeking to invest more in the newer talent that is coming into the company.

There's no way Greatest Songs of the 90s is still happening.

You'll finish the 90's PPVS first.

Holy shit did I burn myself out on NG lol

  5. Cool, the Bischoff Timeline should be good. These are the best shoot interviews for me, because it keeps the guys grounded in the reality of what happened, which is hard for guys like Nash and Hogan who live off their mythologised versions of history.

Bret's kind of a dick for cranking back on that Sharpshooter after Perfect submits right away. Perfect's back was shot at this time wasn't it? Seems like a dick move.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Was this finale always inevitable?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Art "AllAmericanBoy" VandelayFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:11 AM

    At Summerslam 1991 I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  10. At some point cornette will have a done a shoot on every topic and person in wrestling history.

    ReplyDelete
  11. You mean Samoa Joe quietly leaving TNA as a much lesser (and much more broken down) star than when he came in? Yeah, that was inevitable.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hmmm...so they can't salvage his character and they want him to take a massive pay cut. Seems like a decent offer.

"Joe, we think you've been ruined beyond repair, sooooo...you're going to need to take 50% less."

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have long since reached the Maximum Desired Amount of Jim Cornette in my life. Forget that he's a classless unfunny inbred redneck Hillbilly, it's just that I don't need any more information from him when he hasn't been relevant to pro wrestling in ages now. Let's move on.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sure you're making less money, but it's an honor just to wrestle the likes of Rockstar Spud here on Destination America, following "Hillbilly Nazi Gold Hunters!"

Wow, Samoa Joe shoulda done this shit 6 years ago. Now it's a big who the fuck cares.

    ReplyDelete
  15. TNA: Cross the Unemployment Line!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm not a big Joe fan tbh, but dumping him, Bad Influence, and AJ seems pretty bad. Who's left, just the Indy Geeks and lashley and MVP? I'm sure most TNA fans are glad Daniels, aj, and Joe our gone because now TNA has more to sign guys like mike Knox and brodus clay. Or offer ADR 400k to have him immediately reject it!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I hear he finally tells us his opinion on Vince Russo in this one.

    ReplyDelete
  18. All of those guys they dumped are near 40 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Art "AllAmericanBoy" VandelayFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:18 AM

And on that day I will be sad.

I seriously just want shoots of Cornette reviewing every year of every promotion regardless of whether he was there or not.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey come on Samoa Joe, we're partners with the new network. In a few years we might have about a million viewers a week...

    ReplyDelete
  21. At this point, if we're counting NXT as it's own brand, than TNA is no better than the #4 wrestling company in the US, and #5 if you count New Japan cause of their Axis TV deal and US PPV availability. And honestly it's not even an argument.

TNA is basically an indie with limited TV exposure.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The heck? TNA is still drawing WAYYYY more viewers than only other company that isn't WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hopefully they get rid of Aries so he can be free too. TNA has no stars.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Art "AllAmericanBoy" VandelayFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:21 AM

Wow Summerslam 1991 and Vince is still milking whatever he can from Andre. And Andre looks bad here.

    ReplyDelete
  25. They're still better than the alternative that TNA wants to sign/keep.

    ReplyDelete
  26. And we're doing great things with Wrestle-1 and Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore. Don't you wanna be part of the invasion angle???

    ReplyDelete
  27. Art "AllAmericanBoy" VandelayFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:21 AM

Didn't Aries turn down a spot on Tough Enough in 2011?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I thought Tough Enough rejected Aries.

    ReplyDelete
  29. They're a bad joke. So if nxt is 2, then you got lucha, roh, NJPW, all the old territories you can watch on the network, some high school kids backyard league, BoD Raw, pwg, and then TNA. I'd call TNA more of a circus reality show on a awful TV station than a actual wrestling promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  30. All three participants of the legendary Unbreakable three-way dance are gone from TNA.

Of course, it was almost ten years ago now, but that's still surprising to me.

    ReplyDelete
  31. They can't sell 20 tickets to a show though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's how I remember it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Should we expect Joe in NXT ...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Crikey Mate Down Under AussieFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:26 AM

    http://botchedspot.com/comic/iwc/

    ReplyDelete
  35. Too old for NXT, and if they really wanted him they would've signed him years ago.

He'll probably go the AJ Styles route and do a mix of big indies/Japan. He'll do all right for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  36. TNA does need to be newer and fresher. There isn't much point keeping anyone like Joe anymore. They wasted him for ten years, just like they wasted Daniels and AJ and all the other great wrestlers. They should go with youth. Even though Kurt Angle is their champion.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Don't let NPP see that!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Maybe they communicated about it backstage and Perfect gave him the okay? Bret said that Hennig stepping up to drop the belt despite his injury was something Curt wanted to do for him since they respected each other so much.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ROH's viewership via syndication is equal to TNA's via their 5th rate cable channel. Absolutely not that TNA is drawing wayyyyy more viewers. NXT is on a channel that has 1 million dedicated WRESTLING FANS subscribed to it, plus they're on Hulu Plus. Absolutely fair to assume they'd have the same viewership as TNA's 500k.

Both groups run house shows, which TNA can't anymore because fans long ago stopped paying to see them live. (They drew flies a month ago in fucking NEW YORK, the wrestling fan capital of the world.) Yeah NXT just started selling house show tickets, but ROH has successfully done that at a level WAY beyond TNA for years now.

ROH is still in the PPV business. New Japan has a massive live event business (yes, TNA has more TV viewership). TNA is out of the PPV business, aside from those Coliseum Video-esque releases that we all know nobody is buying.

Again, TNA gets their ass handed to them in several categories, and New Japan is the only one that TNA can even claim a definitive win in TV viewership. How is TNA a bigger organization than any of them, other than that you really want to say it is so?

Also, this is coming from someone who is not an ROH/New Japan super fan, not in the slightest.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think that is the wrestling landscape now, sadly. WWE, and a bunch of glorfied indies with limited TV exposure, TNA being the biggest of them.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Just watched that match the other day for the first time. It was fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  42. He is? Wow...that's...pretty sad, really.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah, I don't see Joe as a big loss at this point. He hasn't been important to the company since 2008, he is not in great shape, and he's slowed down in the ring. But it's ridiculous that the likes of Joe, Styles, Daniels, Kaz, Sabin, Shelley, Lethal, and so on have been replaced by Gunner, EC3, Samuel Shaw, and Rockstar Spud.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Does Joe have any value to WWE at this point? I mean besides the lulz of Vince bringing him in as Umaga like nothing was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sable on those 96 Raws ... wow.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I wonder if him being so tight with Punk might hurt him ... Japan seems more logical.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That'd be fine, but so far TNA's youth movement consists of the BroMans, Sam Shaw and Gunner. Nothing to get excited about.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Enter Sandman. The answer is always Enter Sandman.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I said this below, but he's too old for NXT and if they really wanted him they would've signed him years ago. What does Joe offer that a guy like Steen doesn't? THEY'RE BOTH FAT!

He'll probably go the AJ Styles route and do a mix of big indies/Japan. He'll do all right for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think Joe would need to go on a string of stellar matches in Japan and the indie scene to prove he still has what it takes. Then WWE might look at him.

    ReplyDelete
  51. HAHAHAHA. Seriously I think you nailed it. At this point TNA is more akin to Hogan's celebrity wrestling or that All Star Midgets show that Bischoff produced. Christ that shit is so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Who knows? Maybe Daniel Bryan might vouch for him?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Not a chance. He's an "old TNA guy," plus he's fat. Not TV pretty. Can't wrestle WWE style. Should I go on?

    ReplyDelete
  54. No, WWE rejected him.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Fuck those pants-less neckbeards!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Gunner is the same age as me. Christ, I thought he was pushing 40. He looks like a bum.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Maybe as a trainer in NXT. He'd be better than Hugh Morrus, right? But no--I don't see that happening.

    ReplyDelete
  58. the fat thing is kind of out the window with Kevin Owens right?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah, but Owens is 5 years younger.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Perhaps, but he's on NXT, a show Vince only watches in the background. When KO ever gets called to the main roster...

    ReplyDelete
  61. What could he train in? How to stay in shape? How to stay motivated? The guy's a busted flush. Shame. He coulda been someone.

    ReplyDelete
  62. And Owens doesn't have TNA stink on him.

    ReplyDelete
  63. When TNA turns out the lights on the final Impact, I really hope the last match is Rockstar Spud vs Samuel Shaw, followed by them hugging it out as Taz proclaims "that's the heart and soul of TNA right there bro!"

Hell, the last Impact might have to be Sam Shaw vs Spud for 2 hours, since there's a solid chance they'll be the only two guys left in the company at that point.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Eric Young, dude. Cockroaches and Eric Young.

    ReplyDelete
  65. "I wouldn't go so far as to call the brother fat, I mean he got a weight problem. What's the n*gger gonna do? He's Samoan."

    ReplyDelete
  66. I feel like Joe has enough street cred, even with TNA, that they might take a look at him.\

    ReplyDelete
  67. Okay wait no, I got it. The last episode is a power struggle between Dixie and Spud for control of Eric Young.

    ReplyDelete
  68. When the question is 'when did Metallica start the downward slide to oblivion?', it most certainly is.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Put Joe in NXT with Zayn, Owens, Balor and watch him get motivated.

    ReplyDelete
  70. You and me, outside, RIGHT NOW.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Oh really, well TNA are trying to push him as someone for the future.

    ReplyDelete
  72. HELLO LADIES https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bfh4QOWCMAACNq0.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's really cold out.

    ReplyDelete
  74. MAYBE they bring him in purely as a jobber to work some 3-minute matches and team with Heath Slater and they get some laughs. MAYBE.

Otherwise there's no way I see them bringing him in to actually attempt anything serious. He's way too old and fat and indieriffic.

    ReplyDelete
  75. On second thought, you're not such a bad guy.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Cena vs Orton,one more timeFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:37 AM

He is far fitter than Joe is.

    ReplyDelete
  77. HAHAHAHAAH. The last 6 months of TNA will just be Spud and Dixie backstage segments, and Tommy Dreamer crying.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Creative use of Pulp Fiction quotes is an automatic up-vote

    ReplyDelete
  79. I used to love when Hogan or someone in TNA would condescendingly refer to AJ and others as "the future", despite AJ having won his first TNA world title like seven years earlier

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wait, is Kurt Angle the champ??? Thats amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I gotta laugh at the people who are annoyed that fans here and at other places are still complaining because now we're "getting what we want" in regards to Bryan and stuff. Like we're all results-oriented fans who only want to see the ending and don't consider the actual road to the ending and the TV content, which has been an enjoyable mess. Bryan ending up in the WM Main Event won't be completely satisfying if it takes a crappy storyline to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Sorry, it is a spoiler. The show airs sometime this century.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hey Scott Steiner, what do you think about Samoa Joe leaving TNA?

    http://youtu.be/dZqo4OZ0Pqs

    ReplyDelete
  84. I love that show. A personal favourite

    ReplyDelete
  85. People will complain one way or another. It's no wonder why Triple H and Vince hate the IWC.

    ReplyDelete
  86. He looks like Bang Bang Bart!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I just don't get the black and white "BUT YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANT" shit. The show still sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Calling it now, Austin Aries is the next one to leave

    ReplyDelete
  89. Can TNA really be "spoiled" by anyone other than TNA at this point?
That's so unreal that TNA-defenders are touting a youth movement meanwhile the 45-year old broken down pill head is their champ. Jesus christ that organization is a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  90. This is the NXT era. "Street cred" equals "bad indie habits".

    ReplyDelete
  91. We still get Kane and Big Show in main events either way.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm a bit surprised at how far Losing My Religion got in the poll.

    ReplyDelete
  93. So his gimmick is more Ron Jeremy now then?

It's sad when wrestlers get old. I bet he regrets showing up wasted for his brief TNA shot.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Me too... I think it was matchup based for most of it. At least it seemed that way.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Plus he wears a shirt when he wrestles, like fat kids who wear shirts in the pool

    ReplyDelete
  96. And it's giving WWE whole hell of a lot of benefit of doubt to assume that's even what we're getting.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Their fans will be happy if the product is good, which it absolutely hasn't been.

    ReplyDelete
  98. TNA will get rid of everyone until they can do the main event program they always wanted...Eric Young vs Robbie E.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Isn't it weird looking back at the WCW days when guys would jump from promotion to promotion and each organization kind of welcomed it with open arms bc it was shocking? Today, the WWE wants nothing to do with TNA guys. I miss those days.

    ReplyDelete
  100. "John Cena is good but he's no Detlef Schrempf."

    ReplyDelete
  101. I said this last week, but TNA is weird nowadays. I still watch and I still enjoy it, but it seems like they have no identity anymore. No monthly PPVs to look forward to, tapings months in advance, TWO heel stables as the focus of storylines, etc. Impact is a show I used to look forward to each week because they would usually provide something fresh like a 15 minute X-Division title match or innovative match types and a roster of stars that they were developing on their own. Now it just seems.....I still can't put my finger on it. There's just something OFF about it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Oh, 100%. He'll make way more bouncing between ROH, New Japan, and Lucha Underground/AAA.

    ReplyDelete
  103. "I've beat him before and I'll beat him again, AND HE'S STILL A FAT
BASTARD! The only thing I'd be afraid of him is if I was smothered in a
Twinkie, or I was dressed as a hamburger. Why would I be afraid of him?
I'm gonna beat Samoa Joe worse than before."

    ReplyDelete
  104. It sucks? Yeah, that's probably it.

    ReplyDelete
  105. It's not bad. It's just not fresh.

    ReplyDelete
  106. We've been kinda all been saying that for a while. Just with fruitier language.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Poor Joe has no options now. ROH is a shell of its former stuff and sadly there's no way WWE takes a flyer on him unless John Cena calls in a favour. Off to Japan?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Well that's what happens when shows are taped 3 months in advance with a roster of nobodies and the worst of the worst of indie talent, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  109. The only recent siging that got me exited was Drew Galloway. It's pretty funny that they try to recruit every scrub who left WWE, but the people with real market value (Del Rio, Punk) don't want to come anywhere near them

    ReplyDelete
  110. The shows being in the cupboard for several weeks at a time probably doesn't help the fresh feel. They look SO canned when Taz and Matthews appear in that strange backstage room.

    ReplyDelete
  111. do Cena and Joe have a friendship?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yep. They go way back.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Pretty sure you could draw some money with Joe coming and kicking Cena's ass. Do the whole "We were friends and you did nothing to help my career" thing.

Now, for that to happen he'd have to get on a treadmill for ten or so weeks. But I don't think it'd be a problem if the guy gives enough of a shit.

That's wishful thinking, but it would help bridge the gap to John Cena's 2016 heel turn.

    Or not.

    Probably not.

    ReplyDelete
  114. If WWE really believed in Reigns they'd take him off TV for a few weeks and put him in one of those high-quality WWE Studios productions, right fellas?

    ReplyDelete
  115. That just doesn't happen anymore. If it isn't a WWE creation, it won't happen. It's stupid. Would be fresh to bring in new guys and slot them right into big time programs. Those days are gone, though.

    ReplyDelete
  116. He can probably do 2 years of the Styles/ADR run, just on a lesser scale since he's not nearly as good as those guys anymore. Mix up ROH, New Japan, AAA/LU, and some spot indie shows.

But otherwise I hope the dude has either saved every penny he ever made or has learned how to fix air conditioners or something, cause I don't think he's got a particularly long run ahead of him.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I LOLed at the AC remark.

    ReplyDelete
  118. The average WWE fan has no idea who Samoa Joe is. Even less WWE fans know that Joe and Cena have a history.

Hell, it would make more sense to the average WWE fan to do that same angle with Zack Ryder.

    ReplyDelete
  119. The average WWE writer has no idea who Samoa Joe is either.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Hell, Vince McMahon probably has no idea who Samoa Joe is.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yeah them not even traveling to the shows and openly saying that they are in Nashville calling the action. The weekly Impact shows have already been taped through March and they are taping through May and early June next month. I miss when they'd tape 1-2 episodes at a time. Hell, I'd take a return to the Impact Zone if they went back to that taping format.

Building up to monthly big PPVs was a big thing for me. Even 6 PPVs a year would be fine. 2 hour TV specials does nobody any favors. TNA was pulling increasing ratings with Vince Russo, but they also had a strong focus on being a WWE alternative instead of trying to be just like WWE. Why not focus the X-Division more? It certainly can't hurt. There's only like 4 TNA originals left in the company now.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I would kick the tires on Joe. WWE has hours of TV to fill and a lack of star power. Not that Joe is a huge name, but hell, I never pegged Goldust to find his motivation and have the career resurgence he's had. Maybe this will be the kick in the ass Joe needs to get in shape.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I had the same thought. I think I was too busy jerking off to Sunny to notice or appreciate how smoking hot Sable was back then.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I would actually love to see a Heel Ryder vs Cena program, actually. Would be the perfect thing to keep Cena busy for some B-PPV like Payback.

Not even advocating Ryder get a win-- Cena could absolutely crush him in the match. Would just be a fun way to call back to their history and get some final value out of Ryder.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Eh, the roster isn't THAT bad. Angle, Hardys, Lashley, EC3, Low-Ki, Aries, Wolves, Roode, Storm, Manik, and some others aren't bad.

    ReplyDelete
  126. "My god, that's Joey Samoey, Maggle!"

I can't see it. I would take him though, as many guys new to WWE as possible I'd welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Goldust was a WWE creation and longtime star on their TV. Samoa Joe is pretty much a nobody, though.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Art "AllAmericanBoy" VandelayFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:55 AM

Shame Bossman left WWF in 93 or whenever he split. He could have done some awesome stuff with Bret, Shawn, Razor, Kid and others from 94-96

    ReplyDelete
  129. I meant from a physical standpoint. Goldie looked like shit for a LONG time.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Well, he joined the nWo so it wasn't all bad for him!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:56 AM

I voted against it every damn time, too. Hate that fucking song.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Eric Young is TNA's Tommy Dreamer. Of course Tommy Dreamer is also TNA's Tommy Dreamer.

    ReplyDelete
  133. But all they are is Impact. Aside from being inexplicably popular when they tour the UK, the company basically doesn't exist beyond their TV tapings. Viewer totals aside that puts them just a notch ahead of Lucha Underground, but somewhere behind RoH and several other indies. It's hard to count TNA as the "#2 promotion" when they are just a cancellation (again) away from being a name on a piece of paper.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I agree they seem to be recovering from the survival mode of the last days on Spike.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I watched Gone Girl last night. Really good movie, but man was the ending Russorific.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Art "AllAmericanBoy" VandelayFebruary 18, 2015 at 7:56 AM

He was in ELITE company there!

    ReplyDelete
  137. If WWE were to bring Joe out on Raw, does he even get a star reaction? Or any kind of reaction? Or does he get about what Tyler Reks would get if he came back?

Sure, maybe in MSG or Chicago or Philly, the ROH/smark towns. (Though even there I doubt it's a sure thing that regular TV MSG crowds would pop huge for Joe.) But if Samoa Joe walked out cold on a Raw in Denver, does the crowd react at all?

    ReplyDelete
  138. My Client, bROCK Lesnar!February 18, 2015 at 7:57 AM

    Life goes on without me.

A womp bibbety bomp de bomp de bomp bomp

    ReplyDelete
  139. Joe's only chance to get into WWE would be to scour Samoan family records Galdalf-at-Gondor style to see if he is in some way related to The Rock. Fourth cousin seven times removed!

    ReplyDelete
  140. They've got a 2+ year deal with Destination America and are their highest rated show on the channel. Why can't they just buy a lot in Orlando again, shoot TV every two weeks, re-introduce monthly PPVs, and try to build their fanbase backup.

    ReplyDelete
  141. While a Samoa Joe WWE run isn't going to happen, if they push the Joe-Cena angle hard enough people would buy the whole disgruntled friend angle. Fans don't need to know the particulars, especially considering the number of angles over the years based on fictional back stories ("she was mine before she was yours"), they just need to know that Cena became famous while Joe was left behind. The fact this has some basis in truth would make it even better.

    ReplyDelete
  142. There's such a stark difference between 96 Nitro and 96 Raw. Just watched the episode of Nitro after Slamboree and now watching that night's Raw. Nitro had a 20 minute opener of Flair vs. Guererro, while Raw has Savio Vega vs. Waltman tapped about a month prior. Raw just feels so bland.

  143. I swear one of my coworkers has a severe case of 24-hour flu every other week. I can't even remember the last time he's worked a full week, Monday through Friday, without calling in.

  144. Bossman got really good during his face run.
If he had stayed and turned heel again with his improved ring skills he could have been a mega over opponent for Bret, Razor etc. Basiclly his Attitude Era character but with good matches.

It's funny I gave you too much credit. I thought you would at least make it to 2003!

  148. Same.

I am just really glad it won't be November Rain.

  151. I've never gotten the idea that WWE fans are just WWE fans. It's like when they say that internet fans only make up a small portion of their audience.

Those are great ideas in theory, but it just doesn't hold water in my experience.

That's not to say that I would expect Joe to get a big reaction (maybe not even any), but people would know who he was pretty quickly.

If, of course, the creative staff would invest any time in telling the story. The fact that Ryder is right there ready to tell the same story and they refuse to even waste an off month PPV on it tells us all we need to know.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Yeah true, his run the last 2 years has been super impressive. It's crazy to think how over the Rhodes Bros were before they dropped the tag belts to the Outlaws.

I think specifically he and Razor in 1994 could have had a rocking match.

He also could have been a good opponent for Bret in 1993 to occupy him while building back to winning the title.

  155. VOTE FOR ENTER SANDMAN

    ReplyDelete
  156. Huh. I called in a lot in my early 20s but that was from hitting the bars to meet girls.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I'd say Russo was most likely wasted as he actually tried to push the guy when he first came in.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I wish they spent more focus on the X-Division. They have a LOT of good Jr's in that company.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I think they don't want that because they don't want people in the WWE to think that going to TNA is a possibility if you want your job back. They'll do it on occasion, but I count maybe three times out of all of those wrestlers? They really SHOULD bring Bully Ray into the mix for a brief stint in the mid-upper card. I think he'd be great for a guy like Reigns and he'd put him over strong.

  160. The average WWE writer has no idea what wrestling is

    ReplyDelete
  161. Lite years behind. They just showed a five minute clip from what happened "the night before" at MSG, which was actually the night of the curtain call. Unfortunately, it was a recap of The Godwins against the Body Donnas.

This Mountie/Bossman match hasn't been too good but the segments throughout the show after are funny.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Because they had gotten to a point where they were losing money on doing monthly live PPVs. The cost was more than the revenue they brought in, hence no more PPVs. And I doubt cutting their TV viewership in half will lead to higher PPV numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I think he admitted he was hungover or hadn't slept in days or something for his PPV match with Daniels. I don't think he was ever seen again. Motherfucker pinned Daniels clean. I remember a bunch of TNA fans in the front row turning their back on it in disgust.

  165. He's married, and pretty much the longest tenured person here in the department I work.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Ryder could cost Cena a bunch of matches for a month, do absurdly self aggrandizing promos and Youtube/Network videos and then have Cena absolutely murder him to the point of getting DQ'd.

Then you've got a heel ready to put other faces over.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Interviews, huh? I've been there!

    ReplyDelete
  168. "Huge wasted opportunity" is becoming kind of a thing with this company. If it was just Goldie losing to another older guy, I don't care, but Cody really has the chance to be a big deal.

I was really pulling for some Pearl Jam or Foo Fighters to be in the final match-up, because I feel the songs were a lot more representative of the 1990s - especially PJ - but I guess Smells Like Teen Spirit and Enter Sandman are the two most iconic early 90s songs, so people are going to vote for them.

    ReplyDelete
  170. "Why does he call himself Samoa Joe? That's like Jericho calling himself Canada Chris."

    ReplyDelete
  171. Exactly. Build Ryder up just enough that he can job to Cena, job his way down the roster, and then fucking fire him if you want. Not doing ANYTHING with the guy seems like such a waste.

    ReplyDelete
  172. "Holy shit. Call Jericho. He's got a new name, pal."

    ReplyDelete
  173. Wow thats very possibly true. There's a good chance Vince McMahon doesn't even know who Samoa Joe is. HAHAHHAHAHA.

    ReplyDelete
  174. There was a definite sense of growing pains in '96 for the WWF. You could see they were on to a positive change in direction, yet Vince was still clinging to the silliness of a few years earlier. Ironically in hindsight it looks like all they had to do was listen to what the fans liked and run with that: and the fans wanted badass dudes & hot chicks.

    ReplyDelete
  175. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" turned rock and pop music up.

All "Enter Sandman" did was tone Metallica down.

    Nirvana all the way here.

The WWE commercial on Hulu Plus has a kid who may or may not be gay talking about how he was considering quitting his job at Walmart so her could watch Raw on Monday nights.

The commercial ends with him saying, "I'm not a wrestling fan, I'm a WWE fan."

At the very least, WWE is trying to convince others that WWE fans are just WWE fans...

    ReplyDelete
  177. I want Joe to be hired just so Vince can turn to him and say "excellent question, Umaga".

    ReplyDelete
  178. I think it's pretty much still automatic heat for a heel to get a dq win and come out bragging about it.

You put a secondary title on a face, Ryder comes out crowing about his big win over Cena. Steals a couple of matches from the face, murdered again at the PPV.

But that shit is too hard.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Good thing Vince would never do anything like that today.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Gotcha, just looked it up. Forgot that Cena got his start in wrestling out in California.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Joe is a shell of his former self too

    ReplyDelete
  182. I was at that show! And I actually popped big for the Godwinns, not cause I liked the Godwinns but because HOLY SHIT a title change at a house show.

Also, that seriously was one of the best wrestling shows I've ever been to. HBK/Diesel in a cage, Razor vs HHH I think, an awesome segment where Austin beat Jake TWICE, and the reason I wanted to go in the first place--- Warrior beating Owen.

    ReplyDelete
  183. They're trying to convince themselves. Because if that is true, it justifies what they're doing.

It's not and it doesn't, but if they just keeping saying it...

    ReplyDelete
  184. What about switching to iPPV's for the monthly shows?

    ReplyDelete
  185. Goldust & Stardust could have been a big deal, but WWE never pulled the trigger. Even when they won the tag belts they still lost singles & non-title matches. Another example of the larger complaint that WWE never really pushes anyone anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  186. I'm calling that he's either interviewing for other jobs or he just gets really shitty one night a week and takes a day to recover. If he's in his late-20's, that's when hangovers really start hitting you hard (at least it was with me anyway), so if this is a recent trend, I'd put my money on that.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Would they be allowed to? They still have this old PPV deal in place I guess which is why they've shot all these One Night Only shows. Would they be allowed to run further PPV events? I don't know how it works. It's weird to me that they have these ONO shows going out each month and so little to promote them. I'm not sure it's really the best use of their PPV contract.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Extant1979 - Mr. Cable AccessFebruary 18, 2015 at 8:11 AM

Enter Sandman gets my vote simply because every time I hear it, I think of Mariano Rivera coming down to close out a game at Yankee Stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Exactly. ROH somehow has a higher TV viewership at this point. So in what world are a PPV-less, live event-less TNA a bigger organization than them anymore? They're not.

Again, TNA is more comparable to that Midget wrestling TV show at this point than an actual wrestling company.

    ReplyDelete
  190. As a teenager of that time, I agree. Nirvana really changed things.

The Black Album isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Take out Nothing Else Matters and it's a pretty damn solid album. Death Magnetic is really good too, but St. Anger can kiss my ass.
