Honestly, I was more outraged that Goodell lengthened the suspension on Rice than his initial two-game banishment. Either stick with the two games or wait until the video eventually comes out and then make a decision.
I am really happy for Davis; at least he gets some recognition, even if he was a Pro Bowl snub this year (again). I think I'm in the collective throes of football fatigue, and coupled with the most unappealing Super Bowl match up since New York/New England has just soured me.
In three weeks, I'll remember that football is over and begin crying inside.
It's Super Bowl Sunday, and I couldn't give a shit about the Super Bowl. A team that I loathe more than almost any other versus a fan base who has become my sworn enemy? I'm in this for the snacks and the commercials this year, God help me. I hope it's the worst fucking game ever.
That Deadspin post on how little the NFL has done post-Ray Rice and the fact that no one seems to know what kind of organization No More actually is because of a suspicious lack of information regarding them and their brain trust (right now, Deadman Inc looks more like a legit company) was a great read.
Well, I have Sunday afternoon basketball on ABC to look forward to. Although I don't know why there isn't a game on ABC today but this Michigan/Michigan St game has been aces.
Yeah, I think that was the first domino to fall in the "Wait, he really doesn't know what he's doing?" shitstorm that he's been taking. I have no sympathy for Rice regarding the act and its consequences, but I did support his right to get that Goodell suspension overturned because the only double jeopardy that's allowed is the second round of Trebek's show.
I'm rooting for Seattle, the team, because I hate New England immensely and will enjoy it when an NFC team finally cracks Seattle's mini-run (preferably Carolina, because we've emulated Seattle's building plan and are 1 or 2 years away from being great). But I only wish misery and suffering on Seattle's fan base, and especially your radio hosts.
I'm watching the rise and fall of wcw doc. I really like it but its hysterical to hear Mike Graham say he was singlehandedly responsible for the deal to shoot at Disney, signing Hogan and moving to 12 ppvs a year.
The fan thing is amusing, we retired the 12 jersey in 1984, we just never won anything so no one outside bothered to notice, now people act like it's a brand new bandwagon thing.
I like Carolina, in general I love this new school scramble quarterback stuff, it's time to put to bed that old "qb stands like a statue for 9 seconds" kind of offense, it's fucking boring.
Def. rooting for Seattle, because as a Chargers fan I hate the Pats and Niners (so anything that benefits Seattle is A-OK by me), and Sherman and Lynch might be my favorite players, even if not on my team.
It's nothing personal against Seattle fans, but Carolina's been around for a relatively short amount of time, and has sucked 3/4ths of that period, so 2006 resonates profoundly. Seattle radio hosts calling us inbred hicks and mocking us all week almost had me ready to commit murder, and to this day I still hate those flaming bastards in an intense way.
I got New England winning 27-23 although I see a few dumb plays coming from Brandon Browner a mile away. Even though the Seahawks' WR corps are average, they still find a way to make plays when they need them. I believe the Patriots' corners will do the job.
So it has taken me 8 DAYS to get through Clash V on the Network. Every time I turned it on, I fell asleep, and man! What a bait and switch main event. Genichiro Tenryu & The Road Warrios defend the six man titles against Michael Hayes/JYD/Sting until Kevin Sullivan locks them backstage, and the Varsity Club takes over the match.
I likely won't be watching it. It's just so much hype for a football game when we just got done watching 16 every week for 17 weeks. I don't get why people who don't watch football get so into it.
Guess that's how they coach them up in NXT. He is truly a corporate guy but unable to handle the pressure at the moment. It was noticeable on Smackdown and he came of really defensive in that interview. This company is going to ruin this guy of they keep it up
I'm actually going to play some video games and try watching more Arrow. Man, Season 1 is a slog at points. But I hear it's worth it since the show gets way better after that.
I liked them the way they were. I hate complaining about one team never getting the ball back if the first team scores. That's why you play defense. Play good defense and you get the ball back.
Eh, it was fine the way it was. Sudden death, a little luck, a little skill. Now they're dicking around too much. And, while I'm sick of Costas, I do like his idea (10 minute periods played til a winner) but can't see that happening in the love-y dove-y new NFL
Hate all these companies being in bed with each other. Who gives a shit if Boston gets the Olympics or not? If I were any closer to Boston, I wouldn't want it there, it'd be unbearable to move around up there if they get it
"WWE wishes Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, and Zack Ryder all the best in their future endeavors. They were getting cheered too much. They had to go."
I think they're going the Corporate Champ route with him, either at Mania or the RAW after Mania. The Rock's appearance followed by the staredown with Trips and Steph foreshadowed it. I'm gonna guess RAW because that can be the big angle to kick off post-Mania WWE.
I feel like Sting should have come out the next night on Nitro and given a big "fuck you all" speech about how disgusted he was that everyone in WCW just accepted Hogan no questions asked after he tried to put the company out of business yada yada just because he started wearing red and yellow again, and how no one has ever appreciated what he did in fighting the NWO through 1997. If the fans boo him, you've got a heel, and if not you just use him as a non-goody two shoes face. Either way, you give him a solid run as champ and put him over Bret at Starrcade before he drops the title to Goldberg at Superbrawl.
I was wearing a Cleveland Indians shirt (I really am a glutton for punishment) and he looked me right in the eye with a big smile on his face and asked if I was from Cleveland. It wasn't just some polite conversation. You could tell by the way he asked that he really, genuinely wanted to know if I was from Cleveland and that was the only thing on his mind at the moment. It was actually a really nice feeling.
Reminds me of all those stories about how Bret Hart comes off as completely unfriendly and unable to converse in real life, except at random points (a few guys have good stories about him meeting fans- he talked with me for a fair bit about Carl Oulette of all people when I brought him up; people at the same show heard him give one-word replies to everything).
Yeah he came back right after this and left again after Havoc before random showing up on Thunder when Sid won the belt before turning heel and aligning with Luger before turning babyface and feuding with his kid and Russo before leaving again before returning as Stacy's possible baby daddy before leaving again before returning as babyface commissioner before turning heel and creating the Magnificent 7.
Don't forget- this is the stadium that replaced the Greensboro Coliseum. It holds 14K. 7400 showed up.
Interestingly enough, WWF Uncensored was held in Charlotte that month...and also didn't sell out (though that's because Charlotte's stadium holds 23K- they got 14K). Then again, this show had the infamous Kennel from Hell match.
This show actually might be the reason we got Vince Russo, as he started the next month. Think about THAT.
I wonder if anybody is going to get busted for picking up a hooker at the Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteGood question. It's an annual tradition.
ReplyDeleteWhen did Curry get posting power?
ReplyDeletehttp://411mania.com/wrestling/roman-reigns-says-he-doesnt-worry-about-fan-backlash/
ReplyDeletePrick
"Snacks and commercials" crowd are about half the Super Bowl audience every year, so at least you'll blend in.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I was more outraged that Goodell lengthened the suspension on Rice than his initial two-game banishment. Either stick with the two games or wait until the video eventually comes out and then make a decision.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Atlanta Falcons in trouble for possibly piping in crowd noise. That's kind of them that they still keep ex-WCW people employed.
ReplyDeleteI was ready to pull for the Seahawks tonight, but the idea of annoying you all night might be too hard to pass up.
ReplyDeleteI am really happy for Davis; at least he gets some recognition, even if he was a Pro Bowl snub this year (again). I think I'm in the collective throes of football fatigue, and coupled with the most unappealing Super Bowl match up since New York/New England has just soured me.
ReplyDeleteIn three weeks, I'll remember that football is over and begin crying inside.
An Adam Curry post!
ReplyDeleteYeah you do, you used to always talk shit about the company. Or was that Fuji? Yeah, I think it was Fuji.
ReplyDeleteIt's Super Bowl Sunday, and I couldn't give a shit about the Super Bowl. A team that I loathe more than almost any other versus a fan base who has become my sworn enemy? I'm in this for the snacks and the commercials this year, God help me. I hope it's the worst fucking game ever.

ReplyDeleteThere is a safety for a reason.
No surprise: the ShittyFalcons don't have real fans, just drunk plants.
ReplyDeleteThat Deadspin post on how little the NFL has done post-Ray Rice and the fact that no one seems to know what kind of organization No More actually is because of a suspicious lack of information regarding them and their brain trust (right now, Deadman Inc looks more like a legit company) was a great read.
ReplyDeleteOh I won't be here I'm heading to my bar, table already reserved.
ReplyDeleteA fucking march band went past my building at 9 this morning, the energy here is ridiculously palpable it's great.
Cheer up. Thomas Davis won the Man of the Year award.
ReplyDeleteI'm still holding out hope that Scott does a rant on Halftime Heat today.
ReplyDeleteDoggies eat applesauce to save the ozone layer
ReplyDeletelol no
ReplyDeleteWhy do think Scott keeps me on? Bayless and Stranger are always slacking.
ReplyDeleteAbout 3 years ago. I used to be the ROH guy, remember?
ReplyDeleteFor people without allegiances I'd just say....Daniel Bryan likes the Seahawks
ReplyDeleteWell, I have Sunday afternoon basketball on ABC to look forward to. Although I don't know why there isn't a game on ABC today but this Michigan/Michigan St game has been aces.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think that was the first domino to fall in the "Wait, he really doesn't know what he's doing?" shitstorm that he's been taking. ReplyDeleteTurn him heel and let him be the corporate champ.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else else not watching the SuperBowl?
ReplyDeleteThey should be in trouble for building a stadium that looks like a giant anus.
ReplyDeleteStar Lord too for any other Marvel whores in the audience.
ReplyDelete(Cap has you covered if you're a Pats fan)
I'm rooting for Seattle, the team, because I hate New England immensely and will enjoy it when an NFC team finally cracks Seattle's mini-run (preferably Carolina, because we've emulated Seattle's building plan and are 1 or 2 years away from being great). ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Fuj, he has a pretty great comment at the bottom of the comments in Scott's GAB 90 rant. I highly recommend go reading it.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching the rise and fall of wcw doc. I really like it but its hysterical to hear Mike Graham say he was singlehandedly responsible for the deal to shoot at Disney, signing Hogan and moving to 12 ppvs a year.
ReplyDeleteI like it, because it's made in their image, since that's where Matt Ryan fucks them every time they make the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteYou going on a date with your boyfriend or something?
ReplyDeleteSUPER SUNDAY, WHAT IS IT, I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT IT'S CALLED, WHAT IS CALLED?! SUPERBOWL SUNDAY?!
ReplyDeleteI think that was on the legends roundtable show.
ReplyDeleteBroke 10,000 guitars - never drew a dime
ReplyDeleteI get confused as to why you have such disdain for me, but no.
ReplyDeleteExactly like the rock in 98
ReplyDeleteA LOW roundtable. But yeah, Graham is the worst.
ReplyDeleteI don't plan on it. Too shitty outside to go anywhere and I fucking DESPISE both teams, so I'll be playing video games and pounding beers.
ReplyDeleteI feel like they're turning him. He can't be that stupid to talk like that as a face.
ReplyDeleteI did like his like about Jeff Jarrett. Was it in that doc he said it?
ReplyDeleteThe fan thing is amusing, we retired the 12 jersey in 1984, we just never won anything so no one outside bothered to notice, now people act like it's a brand new bandwagon thing.
ReplyDeleteI like Carolina, in general I love this new school scramble quarterback stuff, it's time to put to bed that old "qb stands like a statue for 9 seconds" kind of offense, it's fucking boring.
Def. rooting for Seattle, because as a Chargers fan I hate the Pats and Niners (so anything that benefits Seattle is A-OK by me), and Sherman and Lynch might be my favorite players, even if not on my team.
ReplyDeleteLol because that is the only reason I could think of that someone would miss the superbowl
ReplyDeleteNothing better to do so I'll start, but have a quick trigger finger on switching off
ReplyDeleteIf he's playing up the douche-factor, great. Otherwise, he's firmly in douchecanoe territory.
ReplyDeleteGraham was such an asshole. He wouldn't have done shit in wrestling if it wasn't for his dad
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I've seen it.
ReplyDeleteI hope the patriots win by 100 points and they cart a few Seahawks off the field in the old meat wagon.
ReplyDeleteWell no one has ever accused you of having an imagination.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be morbid, but they should do up the cart as a mini-madden cruiser for old times sake
ReplyDeleteI hope they win and Gronk deflates footballs at the post game show
ReplyDeleteThe WWE has their "Top 25 Photos of the Week" on their website every week and one of the pics was Rosa Mendes without makeup. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
ReplyDeleteIt's nothing personal against Seattle fans, but Carolina's been around for a relatively short amount of time, and has sucked 3/4ths of that period, so 2006 resonates profoundly. Seattle radio hosts calling us inbred hicks and mocking us all week almost had me ready to commit murder, and to this day I still hate those flaming bastards in an intense way.
ReplyDeleteI'M RUNNING I'M RUNNING
ReplyDeleteI got New England winning 27-23 although I see a few dumb plays coming from Brandon Browner a mile away. Even though the Seahawks' WR corps are average, they still find a way to make plays when they need them. I believe the Patriots' corners will do the job.
ReplyDeleteI usually miss it because I'm working. Lucked out this year, and somehow got New Year's Eve off too.
ReplyDeleteYou're not Vince Jordan, you're just a wannabe who looks like him! Sorry, break out. You shouldn't even be here! Be gone! Wannabe, be gone!
ReplyDeleteWasn't he? I don't remember him doing anything significant on a national level.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I would call the Patriots' offense great this year but their defense is a whole better than they have been in ten years.
ReplyDelete1/10
ReplyDeleteSpoiler: Anything you want to see they won't make happen on purpose because fuck you customer.
ReplyDeleteBut still an improvement on the real Jordan.
ReplyDeleteThis is all we need for Luger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qyr6ww3x-aQ&spfreload=10
ReplyDeleteI'm not rooting for Seattle but I think they'll win. Same rationale as last year: A great defense will shut down a great offense.
ReplyDeleteHavnt got work tomorrow morning so mite aswell stay up and watch the Super Bowl. See what it's all bout.
ReplyDeleteLocal sports radio for any sport in any city is always so goddamn amusing.
ReplyDeleteI wish Costas would retire. Or die, or retire then die at some later to be determined time
ReplyDeleteLooking like 2nd year in a row with a snow day post SB
ReplyDeleteHe was a tag team champion a few times in Florida. Kevin Sullivan teamed with him then turned to from the Army of Darkness or whatever it was called
ReplyDeleteI like good mat wrestling, but Graham was SO boring.
ReplyDeleteHe has to be. I don't recall him talking this way before.
ReplyDeleteHe's always sure to bury Luger so hard all the time too. Easily my least favorite non-McMahon talking head in these retrospective things.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't do shit in wrestling with his dad either.
ReplyDeleteSo it has taken me 8 DAYS to get through Clash V on the Network.
ReplyDelete8 DAYS for that ending.
HHH's big announcement, Reigns in now in The Authority.
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for his dad he wouldn't have even got that far. He would have been a TV jobber at best
ReplyDeleteMarv, our avatar bet still stands
ReplyDeleteHonestly, win or lose the real fun is going to be tomorrow at work watching all the kids stumble in still technically drunk.
ReplyDeleteI finally gave in and subscribed to WWE Network. let's see if I stay on after Feb or end March...
ReplyDeleteI likely won't be watching it. It's just so much hype for a football game when we just got done watching 16 every week for 17 weeks. I don't get why people who don't watch football get so into it.
ReplyDeleteDuh, 30 days
ReplyDeleteThey probably should have just put the titles on the Rockers at this SNME and done the babyface match with the Hart Foundation at SummerSlam.
ReplyDeleteSo Costas was bitching about the OT rules? What's new?
ReplyDeleteWell they are terrible.
ReplyDeleteI'm not watchin', I'll be sleepin'.
ReplyDelete....o h.....nbc just ran a "football is in all of our lives" commercial that ended with a team logo draped over a casket
ReplyDeleteHe's about TRADITION
ReplyDeleteGuess that's how they coach them up in NXT. He is truly a corporate guy but unable to handle the pressure at the moment. It was noticeable on Smackdown and he came of really defensive in that interview. This company is going to ruin this guy of they keep it up
ReplyDeleteI'm actually going to play some video games and try watching more Arrow. Man, Season 1 is a slog at points. But I hear it's worth it since the show gets way better after that.
ReplyDeleteIf that's true, then Brock Lesnar better resign and retain the title, or Seth Rollins needs to turn face.
ReplyDeleteSpoiler: A football team will win.
ReplyDeleteI liked them the way they were. I hate complaining about one team never getting the ball back if the first team scores. That's why you play defense. Play good defense and you get the ball back.
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a man can do for that insane body love, though.
ReplyDeleteIs calling someone gay REALLY still a reliable insult anymore, in this day and age? Because it just comes across as juvenile to me.
ReplyDeleteEh, it was fine the way it was. Sudden death, a little luck, a little skill. Now they're dicking around too much. And, while I'm sick of Costas, I do like his idea (10 minute periods played til a winner) but can't see that happening in the love-y dove-y new NFL
ReplyDeleteIt's stupid. They should do it like how college football does it.
ReplyDeleteYou have bad opinions.
ReplyDeletelol at Ambrose main eventing WrestleMania
ReplyDeleteNope. I don't even care about football at all.
ReplyDeletelol at TNA. (Nyuk Nyuk)
ReplyDeleteI was only going to watch it because relatives were coming over, but they cancelled.
ReplyDeleteHate all these companies being in bed with each other. Who gives a shit if Boston gets the Olympics or not? If I were any closer to Boston, I wouldn't want it there, it'd be unbearable to move around up there if they get it
ReplyDeletePrediction: You hate everything.
ReplyDeleteIn celebration, I say watch something as nerdy as humanly possible.
ReplyDeleteThe infrastructure cannot handle that many more people in the city. For those who work in town it's going to be hell
ReplyDeleteI care when it's 2 teams I don't hate. But really, I usually have to work during the game and I don't really get upset that I can't watch it.
ReplyDelete"Look at the adjective; Play!"
ReplyDeleteNever stops being funny
"WWE wishes Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, and Zack Ryder all the best in their future endeavors. They were getting cheered too much. They had to go."
ReplyDeleteRowan cooking with wine would be funny, as would Sheamus making fried chicken and biscuits
ReplyDeleteSandow giving cooking lessons would be great.
ReplyDeleteKane would probably just make flames shoot out of the gas burners by raising his arms, and burn everything.
That was cut out of some of the NWO/WCW packages. That line was totally unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteBecause everything sucks.
ReplyDeleteLOD, Hart Foundation, Rockers, and Demos all in the ring at the same time is a cool visual.
ReplyDeleteCharles Fucking Haley. That is all.
ReplyDeleteI wish the judges would be as harsh on the kids as they are as the adults. Just because they're cute and trying means they get a free pass? FUCK THAT.
ReplyDeleteI think they're going the Corporate Champ route with him, either at Mania or the RAW after Mania. The Rock's appearance followed by the staredown with Trips and Steph foreshadowed it. I'm gonna guess RAW because that can be the big angle to kick off post-Mania WWE.
ReplyDeleteYour Favourite Descendents song is "Everything Sux."
ReplyDeleteDon't think I've ever heard it.
ReplyDeleteThe HOF itself had an asterisk without him.
ReplyDeleteShould be a nice competitive professional game between two teams trying as hard as they can to lose every game they play.
ReplyDeleteIt's nuts how the Lakers, Knicks, Celtics and Sixers are four of the most storied franchises ever and they're all jokes right now.
ReplyDeleteI can take or leave. I don't follow football at all, but I can watch it pretty easily if someone else is interested.
ReplyDeleteWith such luminaries as Robert Sacre and Lou Amundson, who couldn't get excited?
ReplyDeleteDebating whether to start SummerSlam 90 after this ep on SNME or wait until after the Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteJericho is definitely a strong voice that always brings up how important the killer WCW mid card was in mid to late 90's. He always brings that up
ReplyDeleteWhere's that from?
ReplyDeleteHow many more years is Carmello signed for? I can't imagine a Melo and Durant combo.
ReplyDeleteI hate both teams, but the Patriots are the lesser of 2 evils, since Inlive in Oregon, and there are tons of Seahawks fans. All of them disgust me.
ReplyDeleteEh, it's a touch self-serving though considering he was a big part of it. (not disagreeing with him either, just saying)
ReplyDeleteJust makes me think of how stupid Bischoff is thinking not being able to do raunchy stuff is what killed WCW.
ReplyDeleteFuck the Super Bowl, Summer Slam 90 is better.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Sting should have come out the next night on Nitro and given a big "fuck you all" speech about how disgusted he was that everyone in WCW just accepted Hogan no questions asked after he tried to put the company out of business yada yada just because he started wearing red and yellow again, and how no one has ever appreciated what he did in fighting the NWO through 1997. If the fans boo him, you've got a heel, and if not you just use him as a non-goody two shoes face. Either way, you give him a solid run as champ and put him over Bret at Starrcade before he drops the title to Goldberg at Superbrawl.
ReplyDeleteI was wearing a Cleveland Indians shirt (I really am a glutton for punishment) and he looked me right in the eye with a big smile on his face and asked if I was from Cleveland. It wasn't just some polite conversation. You could tell by the way he asked that he really, genuinely wanted to know if I was from Cleveland and that was the only thing on his mind at the moment. It was actually a really nice feeling.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of all those stories about how Bret Hart comes off as completely unfriendly and unable to converse in real life, except at random points (a few guys have good stories about him meeting fans- he talked with me for a fair bit about Carl Oulette of all people when I brought him up; people at the same show heard him give one-word replies to everything).
ReplyDelete"Page comes back and pins Page"
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the visual.
ReplyDelete11 year old me hated the Hogan transition back to red and yellow. Even I knew it was retarded and didn't fully understand it was fake yet.
ReplyDeleteHa, perhaps I should've said 'when even Sandman is in a good match...'.
ReplyDeleteWarGames was right there. Flair & the Triad vs. Revolution. Easy
ReplyDeleteONLY thing I have to disagree with... the Lenny/Kaz match was way better than a C+. I enjoyed the heck out of that match.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, spot on review.
Don't forget- this is the stadium that replaced the Greensboro Coliseum. It holds 14K. 7400 showed up.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly enough, WWF Uncensored was held in Charlotte that month...and also didn't sell out (though that's because Charlotte's stadium holds 23K- they got 14K). Then again, this show had the infamous Kennel from Hell match.
This show actually might be the reason we got Vince Russo, as he started the next month. Think about THAT.
