Brock Lesnar = RATINGS

Man, why hasn't a wrestling promoter thought of advertising someone for a show and then leaving him off before?  Apparently it's pretty effective at making people watch.

  1. I TOLD YOU NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE BRAND, PAL! I DIDNT EVEN USE PUT OUR CHAMPION ON TV AND THESE MONEY MOUTHS STILL WATCHED! LET THE SMARKS STEW ON THAT, DUNN!

  2. Bigger news is that they went up every hour. Not even sure when the last time that happened was

  3. NOW BRING ROMAN IN HERE TO MODEL THE NEW TANK TOPS ohwhatamaneuverthoseshoulders

  4. This is a little bit of a head scratcher. Personally, I regularly tune out during the third hour when something better is on (i.e. Better Call Saul).

  5. to me lesnar is top 2 i wanna c when i tune in, right now for some strange reason i wanna see HHH end this Sting-thing

  6. Regardless, according to WrestleZone ratings are down 11.6% from the same week in 2014 and 12.4% from the same week in 2013.

It's a slow swirling toilet, but WWE ratings are going down it

  7. How do you explain this anomaly? You don't. Its a fluke. Its not the first time either. I'm sure next week's ratings will go back to their usual high in the first hour and falling through the rest of the night.

To be fair, a Brock appearance usually means "he says a couple things than stands there while Heyman does all the talking during the opening promo", so I don't blame people for not getting excited about it.

  9. Yeah, it's not like he ever wrestles on Raw or even does a beatdown

    ReplyDelete
  10. Apparently Brock was there and left. Some sort of "business dispute"

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hey, we haven't been making Samoan Diesel jokes because it looks good on the T-shirts, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Reports are saying that Brock walked out of the taping last night due to some undisclosed issues.

He does have the top wrestling title in the world and shit... Maybe advertise him for, I dunno, a fucking WRESTLING MATCH? That might work.

Now, stay with me here, but I'm telling you, this used to work. At one time the champ had matches on a regular basis, and those matches were advertised in advance, and people were like "Oh shit, the champ is in a match, I want to watch that."

  14. I'm sure not having Brock will only make the ratings go up even more next week.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I just don't get this argument at all. To me, him wrestling on a limited basis is what makes his act special. It's not like Hulk Hogan was on Superstars every week wrestling One Man Gang.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Brock probably doesn't watch. They must've told him he was working Reigns at Mania instead of Bryan.

Yeah, I know that isn't true, but my God if it was...

    ReplyDelete
  17. They did specify that it wasn't related to creative. Some sort of argument regarding "the business". Whatever that means.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I know, it's crazy.

Frankly, I think one of the reasons the RAW is Snow episode did so well because it was the first time Brock wrestled on RAW in a dozen years

    ReplyDelete
  19. Brock drew the line at having to say "Roman, you may have been 19 at the time and playing football, but I knew you were coming to WWE eventually and that's why I left the first time!"

Comparing 1988 or whatever to 2015 doesn't even work. And this way beyond that. He won the title in August, he's had 2 matches since. Limited appearances are fine, the champ having 2 matches in 6 months isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I totally understand what you're saying. These are different times, etc. However, I am all for EVERY champ being a "special attraction". Title matches should be rare and advertised well in advance.

Right? Fucking toss him into the tag match last night and make it a six man, let him toss people around, walk off, then finish the match like they did because Brock Lesnar doesn't give a shit about who wins some Raw match.

Either people are stupid, ratings lie, or I am in Hell. You vote!

  24. Being inside the smark bubble makes it hard to know what's what. I don't actually know any true marks that watch so I have no idea what entices them to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If PPV was still a thing, it would make sense for Brock to only wrestle on programs you had to pay $40 for. But if the only excuse to have him on PPVs is to squeeze a few more $10 subscriptions from people, it's not worth it

    ReplyDelete
  26. How glorious would it be if Brock just said "fuck this" and didn't do WrestleMania? Be quite the fitting ending to an awful WWE "season"

    ReplyDelete
  27. Adam "Colorado" CurryFebruary 24, 2015 at 5:19 PM

Ok, it doesn't make sense to WWE. It kind of did at the time, but between cannibalizing their PPV business and the series with HHH it doesn't anymore.

  28. the original Nexus attack maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I've seen that clip. Yeah, that's the kind of stuff that would interest me. He got fired for it? Sounds about right.

  30. You need to start writing a regular column here so we can understand what marks think. Let Vince know and you might get tickets to every show in 2015!

Pretty much. Hell, my niece is 9. Hand her any kind of internet device and she knows what to do. Hand her a cable remote and she'll say that she can find whatever she's looking for online rather than us that old thing. Come on Uncle Adam, this thing does even have Wi-Fi...

  32. Kevin Nash will be happy when Reigns gets the belt. It'll make up for his poor draw as champion (which I argue was not really Nash's fault).

  33. Wrestling 25/8: The latest on Brock Lesnar

Sources close to the situation have reported that, allegedly, Brock Lesnar's no-show on Monday Night RAW is the WWE's latest attempt at "layered storytelling."

The thinking is that Lesnar's non-appearance will have a greater, cascading effect on social media (Twitter, Tout, etc.) than actually appearing in an on-air segment in person. It appears the WWE has been proven right, as the story has been picking up steam all day. It's been said that, due to its success, this angle may continue all the way up to WrestleMania, with a payoff that has yet to be determined. Lesnar will continue to be paid on a per-appearance basis, remaining backstage to fulfill contractual obligations.
