Draw at Fast Lane?

Hi Scott,

Could the DB vs RR match at Fast Lane end in a draw? If the match ended with a double count-out (hypothetically), the WWE could then declare either:

A) Triple threat match at Mania

or

B) Wrestlemania 10 set up where the Brock vs Roman winner fights Daniel Bryan in the main event.

I'd say because the triple threat match occurred last year, that they should  go with the WM 10 set up.

Your thoughts?

I'm very over the whole triple threat idea.  If they want to push Bryan, they should just have him win his spot and then beat Brock.  If they don't, then further stringing people along is only going to make them angrier.  The #1 contender match at Fast Lane is manipulative enough as it is.

Comments

  1. Not sure why everyone wants Bryan to be in Mania main event. He had his time last year. This year have a mid card show stealing match like Angle and Jericho tended to do.

  3. "Not sure why everyone wants Bryan to be in Mania main event."

Um, maybe it's because he's the most over guy on the roster, has the best matches, is generally likeable, and people want to see him in a status that fits his popularity?

    I'm just spitballin' here.

  4. ELIZABETH!

    ......nice.........

    ReplyDelete
  5. I know that there is pain, but if you hold on for one more day, then things will go your way!

    ReplyDelete
  6. If the original plan was to job him to Wyatt again, I can't see them putting him over Reigns now. This is just a 'see? We gave him a match and he blew it' lip service match.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ok, just wondering if you saw Mania 30. Bryan won the world title at that PPV. This year he'll have a great match with Ziggler probably and be on the upper end of the card. Next year, if he stays uninjured and is still as over as he is he'll probably be in the main event again.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I was there and it was a great moment. That said I don't think doing it two years in a row is smart. Let him chase till SS.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You said "Not sure why people want to see Bryan in the Mania main event." I just told you. Regardless of Mania 30, people are still on the Bryan bandwagon, mainly because the injury gave him no chance of a run with the title.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Exactly. Like it or not Bryan's injury sent him down the card a smidge and now he has to steal the show at Mania to get it back. He's very very capable of doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Cenavsorton posted some stuff from Metsfan about the Reigns match definitely being just to keep us lot calm for a bit while they work on getting Reigns more over. I was convinced by it. Reigns is winning.

    ReplyDelete
  12. But if he has an all time classic with Ziggler then it's as if he was the main event. You can't run the same ending two years in a row. As someone said build his run to a SummerSlam title win.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Don't know why they bothered putting Austin out there in the main of Mania either 15, same old shit as the year before.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Agreed. That really should have been Rock's time. I'm amazed he handled it so well.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't know why people are getting psych'd out. It's Reigns/Lesnar at Mania. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  16. As much as I still doubt they'll put Bryan in the WM main, of course Bryan vs Brock would be better than Reigns vs Brock, so I would be happy they did the right thing.

However, it would be deeply annoying that they incompetently fucked up the Rumble TWO years in a row, making the same mistake both times. The destruction of their most popular gimmick match should not be a casualty of their slow learning curve.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I guess they can always go back to Bryan long term if it really does turn out be a bust, just like they went back to Bret at Mania X. I'd still much rather Bryan/Lesnar this year though, mind.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Time to our garbage for Mania.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I guess Savage paid the officials to keep her locked in a basement.

Oh, the question is about the kayfabe reasons. In that case, no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 80's: Hogan wins consistently. 90's: Austin wins consistently. 00's: Cena wins consistently.

You can run with the same guy twice in two years. Do I think that will happen? Absolutely not. But it wouldn't be an original feat.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes but what I'm saying is they shouldn't repeat the exact same story two years in a row, ie scrappy underdog gets put into the main event by fan demand and then beats everyone. Hogan had big monsters to battle at least.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, the way to combat making it the same story, is them actually giving in to fan demand early, realizing that it should be Bryan, and giving him a storyline besides "The Authority trolls the IWC". Of course they won't do this, but it could be easily remedied.

    ReplyDelete
  23. No, if he has an all-time classic with Ziggler in the midcard it won't be like he was in the main event. It will be like he had an all-time classic with Ziggler in the midcard. You and Vince McMahon must be the only two people on earth who buy the "it's like you were in the main event!" nonsense.
Building toward a Daniel Bryan Summerslam win is all fine and well, but you don't put off what should be your WrestleMania main event in service of fucking Summerslam. If there was another babyface on the roster who was ready for the WM31 match with Brock, terrific. Make that guy a star and do something else with Bryan.
But there's no one else anywhere near that level.
So he's the most popular by far, has the best matches, has a built-in story of having never lost the title, plus the absolute dream match of the ultimate underdog against the unstoppable heel champion.
Yeah, I can't imagine why people want Daniel Bryan in the main event again.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Exactly what I said, but yours was worded better.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Even if it was another triple threat it wouldn't be the same story. It would actually be a fairly clever way to get to a really similar match without telling the same story.
Last year, Bryan militarized his fanbase and hijacked the show to get what the people demanded. This year, he has a legit claim to a title match and is coming after it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Even if they insert Bryan into the main event (I wouldn't complain), it'd still annoy me that Bryan still doesn't have a Rumble victory under his belt and may never get another chance after this year. The future is always uncertain, but still, this year was perfect, even more so than last year given the circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tone the aggression down, Mike. If you're gonna be one of those fans who only wants Bryan in the main event and never lose then that's fine. But I remember Jericho/HBK at Mania stealing the show and couldn't tell you what the main event was. Same for Angle/HBK. If you want to be that stubborn guy and give me my Bryan main event and he better not lose, well whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The truth is even they don't know what the main event is yet. I'm sure they expect things to improve with Reigns in the next few weeks but what if they don't? As HHH said in the Austin interview, they change their plans all the time

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kayfabe-wise, it was just one of those old fashioned wrestling things that everyone accepted as a given: Being ringside during a violent wrestling match was no place for a lady.

If she had a manager's license, she was magically protected from whatever violence could occur (or, more cynically, was asking for it if anything happened to her).

But some random housewife (which is what Elizabeth was being portrayed as at the time) just wandering down to ringside in the middle of a blood feud? She might as well be walking into a maximum security prison on conjugal visit day.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Who here is a fan of The Walking Dead? It's interesting to me that the Season 5 finale of TWD is on the same night as Wrestlemania 31.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Comparing Bryan to Austin and Hogan is really so over the top. Those guys changed the landscape of the business. Bryan is an insanely great talent and most over wrestler in a hardcore down period, not unlike HBK or Bret, even though I personally think Bryan has a bit of a ways to get to HBK/Bret status.

    ReplyDelete
  32. As much as I would have loved to see Bryan win the Rumble and go on to Mania, at this point the WWE should just play with the hand they dealt themselves. All the teasing and drawing attention to the situation is just going to make things worse.
Go ahead and run with Reigns/Lesnar if that is what you want. Give Bryan/Ziggler 15-20 minutes to steal the show, book the rest of the show appropriately, and let it play out.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I bet we get Ziggler & Ryback Vs Cesaro & Kidd at Mania. Got a feeling Bryan won't be wrestling Ziggler after all

    ReplyDelete
  34. Many people knew Reigns was winning the Rumble but fooled themselves into thinking WWE would do something different but they didn't(myself included)

Will they double down on that decision that sparked so much outrage or will they audible to Bryan again?

Add that factor in with the fact that it's really the first major meeting between the two on PPV and its a really interesting main event.

Reigns is winning but it's still an interesting match.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's just a comparison based on who the most popular guy in the company is at the moment. Not based on how popular he is compared to the stars of other eras. I'm just saying, as the most popular guy in the company, it would not be unheard of for him to be on top at WM again.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Maybe next year Bryan will get his Rumble win over more deserving winner Sami Zayn.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Very interesting. Didn't think I'd be looking forward to Fast Lane following the Rumble

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm all for an initial draw if it means that angry, gazpacho-faced Vince shambles out and tears both quadriceps just to make a point about wanting a winner.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bryan/Reigns is in my opinion the most interesting and exciting PPV main event since Bryan/Cena way back in 2013 at Summerslam(I would say Bryan/Orton/Batista but you could argue that technically wasn't booked until Bryan beat Hunter)

    ReplyDelete
  40. One of those officials was Billy Red Lyons

"Scandalous smut! Doncha dare miss it!"

    ReplyDelete
  41. Definitely. Another big time face vs face match with a lot at stake, not to mention the controversy surround it. Whatever the outcome it's going to be huge

    ReplyDelete
  42. "If you want to be that stubborn guy and give me my Bryan main event and he better not lose, well whatever."

Changing words and intent to fit your argument has sociopathic tendencies. Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Because a single match Reigns vs Lesnar will suck. Even Lesnar vs Rollins would have been a better match. And Bryan deserves his rematch. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Kid ROCK BawitdabadadangadangdFebruary 6, 2015 at 6:35 AM

I, for one, welcome our new Roman overlords!

    ReplyDelete
  45. This Reigns thing is going to happen, I'll respect WWE more if they just book him to beat Bryan straight up. They get themselves in these positions by all this 50/50 bullshit Scott talks about all the time. Reigns should have spent the last six months literally tearing through bitches and not saying a word. Instead he's dropping nursery rhymes and jobbing to Big Show.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Having them go to a draw to set up a Triple Threat for Wrestlemania is a terrible idea.

Big Show should knock them both out for a no contest to set up a Fatal Four Way for Wrestlemania.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So does lying for no good reason. Bull-fucking-shit he doesn't remember what the main events of WM19 and WM21 are.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The live crowd should appreciate that. Have you SEEN HIM LIVE?!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Kid ROCK BawitdabadadangadangdFebruary 6, 2015 at 6:37 AM

Big Show never got his win back from Brock at Rumble 14....

    ReplyDelete
  50. I personally think Reigns and Lesnar will be a fine match but if I was booker I'd def do a Shield triple threat because that's what they should have built towards.

    ReplyDelete
  51. No. That would result in nothing close to main event money.

    ReplyDelete
  52. How do you rate Roman's ring gear?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Reigns getting the title is like sex with Kobe Bryant. One way or another it's going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hope that's a joke because I don't see Sami Zayn winning a Rumble that quickly. I know they probably want Reigns/Cena as their WM32 title match, but I hope next year is Ambrose's time.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I love it! ... But how do you work in KANE? He DESERVES a Mania main event for being such a loyal employee all these years.

    ReplyDelete
  56. YankeesHoganTripleHFanFebruary 6, 2015 at 6:42 AM

That's what I always took it as. Also remember the last time she got involved in one of Savage's matches she got punched in the mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Was that not Liz's last WWF appearance ever?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Its a more apt argument to use HBK or Bret, not Hogan or Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I never said I "only want Bryan in the main event." In fact, I specifically said otherwise. My exact words on that subject, since you're a forgetful type:

If there was another babyface on the roster who was ready for the WM31 match with Brock, terrific. Make that guy a star and do something else with Bryan.

Again, though: there isn't another babyface on the roster who is nearly as popular, has as good of matches or has been pushed to the point where fans would accept them as the top babyface.

So, stop arguing against strawmen. No one here is being the frothing fanboy saying that anything but Bryan in the main event is acceptable under any circumstances.

    ReplyDelete

Nah she was in his corner for some stuff after he won the title. She is with Savage when he defends his title against Michaels's (who has Sherri) in that match thats on his first DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Stealing the show at Mania is worth more than money. That's not Vince hyperbole, that's fact.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Threadjack,

Almost caught up on NXT, but I'm a little confused about the booking. I'm only just getting used to teams wearing matching gear, and seriously being interested in the tag titles (what is this? The 80s?!) but Murphy and Blake beat a top contender team and then won the tag titles. Where's the part where they lose 18 weeks in a row to the Lucha Dragons so they can earn their place, brother? This is mind boggling.

    ReplyDelete
  63. They aren't doing Reigns any favors by covering up those thighs.

    ReplyDelete

Daniel Bryan is so over that McMahon can't put him in a program with someone he DOES want to push because the fans will turn on them and support DBry.

I wonder in cases like this do they regret the brand split? I think if there was a brand split Reigns could exist in his own world away from DBry and he could develop the way the Authority wants him to.

    ReplyDelete

Would the Big Show be a face or heel in this scenario?

I thought they pooed gold encrusted with diamonds?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Hopefully they'll rectify this ridiculous booking by jobbing Murphy and Blake in singles matches each week for the next 3 months

I'm also aggravated that Owens has managed to get a World title match without having to feud with Kane and Big Show first. Who the hell does he think he is?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonFebruary 6, 2015 at 6:52 AM

Were there any dancing Negroes on NXT? You can't have a proper wrestling show without one.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Always thought they ended the brand split for financial reasons (among others), but there's no way Vince would want anyone to even be considered on the same level as the Hair Apparent.

Which is too bad, because the brand split was awesome for developing folks - we don't appreciate the Smackdown Six if there's no split, b/c HHH would be dominating both shows.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Comparing Bryan to Austin or Hogan is dumb. In any way.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonFebruary 6, 2015 at 6:53 AM

But that's my point. Smackdown was always treated as the B show, so HHH can continue throwing their "B+" at DBry if he was the Smackdown champ.

Too bad DBry wasn't around during the era of the "Smackdown Six"

    ReplyDelete
  83. Racist booking. YOU CAN'T. TEACH. THAT.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'd say they do "regret" inasmuch as they didn't want to do it. Much like with the third hour of Raw, they didn't want it. It was USA's call.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Why not give Reigns bullet points and let him cut his own promos for the next two weeks on RAW and Smackdown? If he somehow gets himself over, you have him win, if he doesn't or he gets even worse reactions, you give the win to Bryan.

    ReplyDelete

    Bryan vs Lesnar.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I care much about the direction of the company than about some contextless workrate. I’d much rather Bryan was world champion
than get to see a four star Bryan/Ziggler match. Bryan has three/four star
matches on TV every week and he always will.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Also the last thing they need to do is puss out and do a non finish. Pick whoever you want to go over and put them over.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Within the context of the conversation, it's not.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I thought that's why they did the Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm not the one making the claim that "stealing the show is more important than money. It's a fact." You're the one claiming facts. The one making the claim is the one to prove sources.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Do it again but book this match better than the rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  94. That's just the one race. FACT.

  99. Reigns sucks though. Like, really bad. Like he's really terrible at what he chooses to do for a living.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Because just about everything is telling you Reigns is not ready for the spot and/or Bryan should be back in the spot.

The attempt to give Reigns "the rub" from Bryan will backfire hardcore, because he's just not who the fans want. They really shouldn't have done this much.

But in any event, 1993. Yokozuna wins the Royal Rumble. Previous PPV history: he beat Virgil in a squash at Survivor Series.

I wonder if in 2001 there were a lot of Big Show fans pissed off that instead of him being cleanly inserted into a match at Wrestlemania, he had to fight The Rock at the February PPV in a 'Winner gets to be in the main event at Wrestlemania' match.

Instead that year we had a four-way match. Which is what I'm still expecting to see, this year personally. If only because I've been assuming so since May last year, when the poster was leaked.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Is that really fair to say? I'd give him two significant moments -- defeating John Cena at SummerSlam and WrestleMania 30. The Cena win was immediately negated by Randy Orton cashing in. Which was in and of itself fine, because it kept him in the title picture. But after a couple of months of failing to win back the title (through nefarious means), he was phased out of the title picture while Orton remained in it. I'll grant them WrestleMania and they did have him close the show at Extreme Rules. But one legitimate moment in the sun is "multiple times"? And if THAT'S the most amount of times in eight years, that's sad.

  139. I looked into it but it was too expensive and besides now I've spent all that money on warriors tickets and air fare. In tapped out for that kind of stuff, especially if I'm gonna hit some playoff games. And besides, I knew the show would suck. If they build that stadium in LA and do a mania there I'll go even if it sucks just to say I went.

Jesus. I wake up and discover DC Comics is making some HUGE changes to their line up. They don't want to be as constricted to continuity, for one, focusing more on stories. I think this means creative teams will have more freedom, which is a very good thing.

But yeah, even though there still doesn't sound like a Superman book will exist that I'll enjoy, there are some books here that I'm legitimately interested in.

    ReplyDelete
  142. You know what makes me sort of sad? The kids today who have to suffer through this crap and didn't get to experience the Attitude Era at like 2000-2001 and the 80's. Yeah the wrestling may be better today, but the booking wasn't the drizzling shits.

    ReplyDelete
  143. The only way a double countout would work is if we get a new stip, "Man who doesn't win must wrestle in his wife's Sunday dress."

    ReplyDelete
  144. I need to start making more money or something. Bank robberies or maybe some pimpin'

    ReplyDelete
  145. As long as they leave Snyder and Capullo alone on Batman they can do whatever the hell they like.

    ReplyDelete
  146. They are. Though Snyder said his Batman book will have a new status quo as a result of all this.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Small children who don't know any better are still the WWE's core audience.

    Gods help us.

  148. Gene Luen Yang is an extraordinarily talented cartoonist. I have no idea how he'll fare as a superhero writer, but dude's got the goods.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Nah I just bought separate. All the extras are things I didn't want to commit myself too. Compared the costs and it was way cheaper to just do what I did

    ReplyDelete
  150. Warriors games are greater spectacles at this point - the popular players get the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  151. You got to wonder if there is some guy out there who has big show as his favorite? Like he just saw him in person and truly was bewildered by his size or something.

  152. http://fansided.com/2014/07/11/leaked-wrestlemania-31-poster-rock-brock-lesnar/

Obviously, take a MASSIVE handful of salt. But it's interesting that as time has gone on, the poster has been updated with the new 'Press Play' Wrestlemania logo. The inclusion of Batista on the poster is the biggest obvious 'flaw'.

I just try and find stuff to speculate on, to keep my interest going despite the WWE's booking at times.

Shame it's still the same Superman from the new 52. And I'm not a fan of John Romita Jr's art. So no buy for me.

You seem to be forgetting he's been in the title picture pretty constantly since 2011. The only time he wasn't was during the heavily featured "Team Hell No."

  158. Even though I was just in grade school I fully expect to be thrown out of the iwc once when childhood awe and fear of Yokozuna and blind support to the guys Vince put him against gets brought out too many times. I was partially responsible for that and still hold Yokozuna in high esteem in my nostalgia.

  159. Would it be too much to have D-Bry come on a horse out to "Overture" from the Rocky movies?

    ReplyDelete
  160. The demos say otherwise, sadly. It's old neckbeards like us.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Today's wrestling better than 2000-2001? I'm not so sure. Benoit, Jericho, Austin, Rock, Hunter, Guerrero, Angle, Hardys, E&C.

WHAT THE FUCK DID THEY DO TO STARFIRE'S COSTUME?!?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  163. I joined in on the new 52 when it started
and bought a ton of books, including every version of Batman. I lasted about a
year and then kinda lost interest again. I might pick up the Snyder Batman
trades of the latest stuff when they come out.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Yeah but what about ziggler/ryback vs the usos?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Is it just me or did Hercules look REALLY weird with that stoner Afro?

Tomorrow ain't as bad it seems.

  175. No, no, the WWE's audience is just more *diverse* these days. HHH himself said it!

    ReplyDelete
  176. Rock vs Brock vs Batista would be surprising. How does this make you think there'll be a four way? :)

  177. Charismatic eNegro Jef VinsonFebruary 6, 2015 at 7:46 AM

I lost interest with DC when they killed Damien.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I can't believe people waste time from their short precious lives thinking of ways to book DB into the main event at WrestleMania. 'Pro Wrestling' is over. The angles are gone, the storylines are gone, continuity is gone, there are no title runs. Wrestler A tries to kill Wrestler B in 2015 and in 2016 they are tagging together. It's like a Tobey Maguire-Andrew Garfield Spiderman style Reboot every 3 months. You literally have to watch each match in a vacuum, because nothing that happens in that match is going to be relevant outside of that match. Nothing gets built and there's nothing to hang on to. If he holds the title, its flavor of the week or month. It means nothing. He'd lose it again in three weeks and then feud with Kane again or something.

    ReplyDelete
  179. That was so bad. Someone needs to make that their avatar asap. (Looking at you MrA)

    "THEY'RE WRONG!!!" - Vince McMahon.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I would normally *hate* that but for some reason with the way Snyder and Capullo present the idea I'm all in. Joker an immortal, timeless devil's conscience? YES!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Apparently he's back now though. Because comics.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Yokozuna was one of the best unbeatable heels ever. I was always way more fearful of him than Undertaker or Papa Shango or any monster heel from that time period.

Him coming out as Owen's tag-partner is one of my fave Wrestlemania moments.

    ReplyDelete
  185. He's back. With his own title, too.

    ReplyDelete
  186. As Kid ROCK Bawitdabadadangadangd stated below, Bryan has indeed gotten that brass ring multiple times. And in Vince´s mind clearly more times than needed. I don´t think he can grasp why this guy, not fitting his superstar mold at all, can keep on being so popular. However, let´s say they had given Bryan the SuperCena push all the way since winning the title at SummerSlam.. Would the boos have been here for him by now? Or would his popularity just have kept on soaring? I want to believe the latter, of course, but what if Vince is, in an assbackward sense, helping his popularity, though it´s messing up the overall product. Okay, I´ve been home 3 days with a fever, so I may not be thinking clearly now, but.. Whatever.
