HBK

It's been nearly 5 years since he was retired - are you still convinced he'll come back for one last big match, or will he do a Monsoon and actually honour the career-on-the-line stipulation?

He'll be back.  He won't have "fuck you" money forever and there will come a time when all the part-time main eventers are unavailable for Wrestlemania and Vince will come crawling to his hunting range with a suitcase full of ugly trucker caps and camo outfits as payment, and we'll get one more DX reunion for a very, very large payday.  Of this I am absolutely confident.

  1. Damn, we should be betting money on this. Like, which WrestleMania? Or when the actual announcement date will be.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I thought he has enough fuck you money considering he's made a lot of money and has lived 2/3 of his life so far. Unless he's a big spender or something.

I hope Shawn stays retired, but what I'm really hoping for is that Shawn becomes Hunter's number two guy (much like Vince and Pat) after Vince dies. As it is, I fear Billy Gunn will be Hunter's number two guy and that would be a sad day in wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  3. If they still believed in managers Shawn would make a great mouthpiece for someone. Or even do a storyline where he takes Ziggler under his wing.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I wonder if Austin doesn't work out or 32, HBK is the backup plan?

    ReplyDelete
  5. That SNME angle was amazing stuff for 87 WWF. It was THE angle for a time.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I always felt most of Savage's paranoid and jealous behavior re: Elizabeth was when she was out of his view. Her taking a bump with Savage nearby is as controlled a setting as they could find.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Shawn, like Hunter, only.cares for Shawn. He could never be a legit mouthpiece. When he tried with Diesel, he eventually usurped him

    ReplyDelete
  8. Exactly. And they should have Heyman serve as everyone's mouthpiece as he tries to get the whole roster over.

    ReplyDelete
  9. As I understand it, Shawn makes considerably more from his weirdo deal than everyone on "Legends" deals do, which fits with his connections to Hunter and Vince. Plus, between his DX royalties, his actual paydays, his TV show, and whatever investing he's done, he probably DOES have Fuck You money.

That said, I think ultimately he'll be back. Hopefully for a match with either Rock or Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Eh. His second run was mostly about getting other people over. Even when he went over in a feud, it wasn't usually super strong/decisive and the other guy came out of it looking ok. And, for a star of his caliber at least, he didn't really go over that often.

    ReplyDelete
  11. He will be 50 in July and I do not think he needs to come back. I guarantee he will not be back.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't see Shawn ever returning as an active, in-ring competitor. I can't think of any other wrestler who took *this* much time off in retirement and came back. Some may have been out of the national spotlight for the same amount of time, but are usually still active on the indie scene.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Shawn vs. Bryan
    Punk vs. Austin

    That sells out AT&T Stadium

    ReplyDelete
  14. That sells out Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't think he will, I think he had the right guy to have his last match with, went on with a classic -- at WRESTLEMANIA -- that he won't be able to top now that he's crossing the half-century barrier, and unlike most guys, he was smart enough to craft a fulfilling and content family life away from the ring. Not only do I think he won't be back, he shouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It still wouldn't work because it's Shawn Michaels. Shawn will steal anyone's heat because people just like Shawn over 99% of the other guys they have.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's a possibility. It could work short-term, I think, with somebody who had a bit of an HBK-ish vibe to begin with (Ziggler or Morrison, basically), but they'd have to handle it pretty carefully.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think they would be seen as just a Shawn Michaels knockoff, especially when paired with the real deal.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Gotta agree with you here. I think if he was truly gonna come back, it would have happened by now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with you. I think Scott's wrong on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I fly from CA for that.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If he does come back, I expect his inverted atomic drop to somehow look even worse than it did before he retired.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Shawn's ego won't allow him to come back. His claim to being the greatest rests on him actually leaving when he says he will.

Scott will probably still be predicting a comeback match after Shawn is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I can think of a guy. Shawn Michaels.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The only way he comes back is if he gets into some kind of financial jam. Otherwise I think he would have done it with Bryan.

Think about how strong Shawn put him over on that post hitc raw. Hbk turned fucking heel for one night and let Bryan totally punk him out on the mic, beat him down and tap him out.

Not saying its some kind of miracle for Shawn Michaels to make a guy look like a million bucks but to get him to heel up like that...he only did that for Hogan and D Bryan. I feel like Shawn put him over so strong there that if he had any desire to wrestle he would have done the match.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The beauty of being a wrestler is you just have to kind of look like you used to. I think Shawn could still do it, but I don't believe he will either.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Theberzerker Von HUSSingtonFebruary 7, 2015 at 12:52 AM

Given how tightly he was hanging on to his cowboy hat when walking and rolling into the ring on RAW last time, I doubt it. His bald spot was getting *really* obvious towards the end there. And I agree about his ego...sorry Scott, it's not gonna happen.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "He won't have "fuck you" money forever "

On what basis? Dude is pretty well off and gets paid well on his Legends deal and other residuals/royalties. If he has anyone remotely savvy handling his money he will have f-you money till he dies.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Never say never, but considering he's knocking loudly on 50 and by all accounts was smart with his money, I'd say he's probably going to stay retired. Quite frankly, I'd have no interest in an HBK comeback. What would it achieve? He spent the last couple of years of his career putting over so many people that beating him gradually ceased to mean all that much, so I fail to see what benefit there is for anyone in beating a fiftysomething (and bear in mind that he's started to look his age) Shawn Michaels; even if it is at WM.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Shawn wanted to retire after Hell in a Cell?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Flair was retired at Mania at the age of 59. HBK could work in 2023 and still be younger then that.

A desperate Vince, HHH, and a briefcase full of money could easily get Shawn into the ring. NEVER say never with Vince, the odds are a mile against you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Shawn knows how to make money.

    And money is two words.

    Daniel Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So would Hogan vs. Cena and Hogan is broken down totally now. But that will never happen either.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Shawn would only come back if the last couple years of his life had been totally an apostate lie. If he truly has tamed his lifestyle and does the other projects he does - there is no need for a comeback.

  36. I disagree. He'll be 50 in July and won't be able to do the stuff we expect of him in the ring, and he wouldn't want to have any other type of match. There are other ways for him to make money with the WWE without getting in the ring.

Fucking fuck off with your preaching bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Scott Keith as HBK's financial advisor knows. Is HBK NWO? DX? Tune into Monday Nitro to find out!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bryan as a heel proclaiming himself to be the very best and no one is able to out wrestle him, enter HBK for a one off match at a Wrestlemania.

I only need a paper thin "storyline" to be happy with getting Bryan vs HBK at least once in my life time.

    ReplyDelete
  41. He'll come back to put Roman over and like it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Let's add Sting-Taker while we're at it then.

    ReplyDelete
  43. If HBK returns and becomes a parody of himself like Flair was for the last ten years of his career, I'll be a sad panda. I think he'll leave well enough alone and I can't imagine him returning for a match given how amazing his send-off was. I guess money can make people do stupid things but I'd hope he's happy enough (he's certainly rich enough) that he can choose to leave his legacy as is rather than returning and becoming just another guy who couldn't leave the boots hung up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Kind of off-topic but here is Teddy Long telling a Randy Savage story about weed and coke. So yeah, it wouldn't have been hard for Vince to convince him.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If he still had the itch, he would have scratched it already. I think he's done as an in ring performer.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I know wrestling retirements are only permanent deals when a competitor is dead or crippled, but I can't imagine HBK coming back as an in-ring performer. Ever. He easily could've carried on for another few years as it was, winding down his role slowly - but he didn't. By all accounts, he was frequently offered title runs from 02 onwards - and Vince was begging him not to leave - but he wasn't interested.

As for people saying he'll run out of money - what planet are you on? He not only retired with a metric shitload of money, but he continues to make a lot of money.

    ReplyDelete
  49. DX reunion? I threw up in my mouth :( If HBK breaks his retirement stip to prance around like a twat with glowsticks and make PG dick jokes with that old hag HHH, I'll wander out into the sea.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Doesn't he host a hunting show now? That's worse than anything he did in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Great. Now I'm picturing Jake as a pimp.

  52. Whatever happened to D'Angelo Dinero?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  59. The man main evented 5 Wrestlemanias, and had 20+ years in the ring, much of which was in the main event. Unless HBK invested all his money in RadioShack, or spends his free time shopping with Mayweather, he absolutely has "fuck you money."

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah but seriously, you were dead on with the hunter comment!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well yeah, notwithstanding that, I do kinda think that hunting is worse than
refusing to drop the world title to Dean Douglas at In Your House 4. I'm
not a meat-eater, I don't like shows about hunting. I try not to be a dick about my vegetarianism, but stuff like that I'm not cool with.

    ReplyDelete
  62. How do you know it is B. S.? Have you not considered the historical evidences that seem to prove Jesus Christ was not only a real historical figure -- but both the crucifixion and resurrection were also historical events backed up by witnesses and evidence?

Yeah head knowledge can be argued - and I realize there is alleged "historical scholars" that also say the Bible can be debunked. So the only way to truly know that the Truth is the truth is to repent and get down on yours knees and communicate with the One you feel isn't real. Ask Him to open up your heart and accept the fact that we are nothing but bile without Him and that your worldly living will in the end be nothing when you die and suffer the fate of eternal death from God.

Hey none of us is righteous or perfect. I'm a sinner saved only by His perfect everlasting Word. You should look up my posts in 2010 - I was a totally different person - who was walking in the paths of Satan when Christ rescued me.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nothing wrong with hunting. As it says in the Bible - we have total dominion over the animals. I don't personally hunt - but I know two guys that specialize in Bear and Boar hunts in Virginia, North Carolina and Maine. No better time for fellowship either.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Shawn vs. Bryan could happen. And also be awesome as hell. That one's not out of the realm of possibility at all.

  65. YankeesHoganTripleHFanFebruary 7, 2015 at 7:11 AM

Flair said in his book that Savage had no problem with him kissing Elizabeth after the Wrestlemania match. I think that Savage understood that on camera it was all just part of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Out of the last 17 years, Shawn Michaels has been retired for almost 10 of them.

He aint coming back at 50 plus.

    ReplyDelete
  67. YankeesHoganTripleHFanFebruary 7, 2015 at 7:13 AM

I think Shawn is genuinely happy with his life and at peace with his career, so I don't see it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. That was the direction I hoped they would take when they first crossed paths.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That's Bill & Ted 2nd show at the Grand Canyon level stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Do you support P.E.T.A? Even atheists like Penn and Teller have claimed they are basically terrorists. I also remember a pluralist philosopher once telling me terrorism was worth it.

Not trying to offend here because I have no problem with vegetarianism. It's healthy to eat a salad everyday if you can - but hey if people want to hunt and fish - let them. It is a method of fellowship and a source for food. Not to get into a OT/NT debate here - but God created the animals and the plants for food. I hope to someday see what bear meat tastes like.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would hope in the year 2015 there wouldn't be a need for Michaels to see in ring action. But when the company has created maybe half a dozen legit stars since the Attitude Era ended, that's just another example of one of the major problems that's plagued the WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Nah, I don't fancy a debate either.

    ReplyDelete
  73. To be fair 99.987% of all inverted atomic drops look like shit.

One of the business' absolute most wretched spots.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Shawn was retired from 1998-2002 - with one match in the middle - four years. Foley was retired from 2000-2004 for four years. Steamboat was retired from 1994-2010 - about 14 years and actually showed he could still move at Mania and I hear his match with Jericho was awesome too. Although the guy darn near had a stroke a couple of months after this from all the extensive work after a layoff. Shawn has only been retired for five years and sure it is feasible for his return. I just don't see it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. He's not coming back. How does Scott know when his "fuck you money" runs out?

He's my favorite of all time so I wouldn't hate seeing him wrestle again but there aren't many better ways to go out.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Why should Austin come out of retirement? There is only one match I pay to see Austin wrestle and it should end with him eating a Hogan legdrop. Not happening, not would Austin come back to put over some young punk either. Maybe he'd job to Cena - but knowing Austin from his attitude in 2002 and his career wrap up in 2003 - he'll never do an actual match again either. Now Angle would - but Vince fears he'd go Benoit on everybody and won't welcome him back. Is Nick Busnick still around? I'd love to see the Bully or John Nord the Viking come out of retirement - but from a neck injury and his mere disinterest in the modern product - he wouldn't come back either.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  79. I thought Tajiri was Regal's butler?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I had always assumed that he would be back for at least a match.. Now I'm not so sure. He doesn't seem particularly invested when he does his appearances.

Celeb net worth says that he's worth 17M dollars which is more than enough for him to live a good life for the rest of his life, as long as he maintains even a remote bit of discipline.

    ReplyDelete
  81. It would be cool to find a Shawn Michaels looking guy that can wrestle like him - but a mask and body stocking on him and call him "The masked Heartbreak." Then everyone would assume Shawn really had returned - especially when they overdub the guys real voice and it sounds like a Shawn under the mask. But then Shawn comes out during a match to reveal it isn't him and BOOM - feud on. Of course we would need months of build up and matches and a feel this masked Heartbreak really was HBK before HBK came our and proved it wasn't him.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yeah but outside of WWE putting Flair out to pasture - you always knew he come back. I wouldn't doubt if the money was right - he wouldn't fly over to Brazil and wrestle right now. But since his health isn't great either - common sense may stop him from doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Desperate times call for desperate measures, but he'd have to be pretty desperate to come back given his age and the style he works.

It would have to be some situation when someone managing his money stole it or blew a large portion of it or the guy got divorced at some point and lost like 70% to alimony & child support

    ReplyDelete
  84. I thought for a minute they were gonna do HBK vs. either Punk or Bryan last year, so I guess you can never rule it out. But I'd be pretty surprised at this point.

What if the crowd pulled a Jericho and threw the sticks at him?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have no clue what this is based on.

You say he won't have fuck-you money forever, but you don't need fuck-you money to live a very comfortable existence, Shawn doesn't seem to live some impossibly extravagant lifestyle, he's got his TV show and some endorsement deals, he'll always have WWE royalties, etc.

And listen to literally anything the guy has said since his comeback and especially WM26. He seems as legit as anyone when he says that he considers his chance to come back at all a gift, he considers his retirement against the Undertaker a pact and doesn't want to go out on a low note. The dude ain't putting on a ***** affair at 50+ after years of retirement.

    He's done.

    ReplyDelete

  90. The definitive stance on hunting:

If you kill to eat what you kill, fine. (Vegetarians and vegans will disagree, but it's the most justifiable kind of hunting)

If you kill for trophies, I can't get down with that.

If you kill in caged hints or go sniping animals from helicopters or some shit, you're an asshole.

    Hulk didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Eh, I doubt it. The match'd probably be HHH and I doubt HHH is putting over Punk and I doubt Punk's coming back to put over HHH. Not sure how much bullshits involved but stories of Punk owning various apartment complexes around Chicago were around even before the walk out

Past the point of wrestling and maybe some kind of Jesse Ventura announcing role? Possibly

    ReplyDelete
  97. Next year would be perfect since they're in Texas. However, big of a fan as I am of Shawn Michaels personally, I'd rather he actually be the one of the few who sticks to his word and stays retired. I'm sure he has more than enough money from over the years to stay happily retired for a lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Vince runs the show. If Vince and CM Punk work something out it won't matter one iota what Trips thinks. Hunter's only power in the company is the power Vince allows him. And that power can be taken away in an instance if Vince wants it to. So don't worry about HHH.
Also, owning a few rental properties does not set you up for life.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  102. Vince runs the show for now. Regardless of what he thinks, he's not immortal.

Also, real estate can absolutely set you up for life if you're smart about your investments.

As for Punk's side of things, after he gets his face rearranged in UFC and that well dries up his ego is too big too be ok with being out of the limelight too long. Then as stone Cold says, he and Vince will have their "Come to Jesus" meeting and that will be that.

    ReplyDelete
  109. If Vince sees money to be made, Punk will be back. Everybody's got a price. Even Punk.

    ReplyDelete

He'll be involved in angles here and there, take bumps sometimes, but I don't see him ever coming back for another match. He doesn't need "fuck you" money. He just needs enough to live comfortably, and between his hunting show and his occasional WWE appearances and Legends deal, he'll make enough to do that.

  130. >He won't have "fuck you" money forever

    What's your source on this?

    ReplyDelete
  131. Yes. The 2006 dx reunion was wretched and actually turned me off from wwe for a bit during a time where I had been a hardcore fan for years leading into it. A modern day dx reunion would really turn me off.

  132. Hey, it worked for Shawn's current lord and savior...

  133. HBK will have a special Easter match after he dies.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I don't think he'll ever come back and that makes me happy because:

    1. For once a retirement stip actually stuck.
    2. I was never a big hbk fan anyways.

  135. I bailed at that point too, for years.

Liz was such an effective plot device. All a heel had to do was look at her in a threatening way and you had Macho's next feud boiling over. I am forever disappointed we didn't get a proper Savage vs. Rude blood feud. It's such a natural. Flair-Macho was close enough I guess

    ReplyDelete
  137. THAT'S the one I was thinking of.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I think you're remembering that slap wrong... Jake threw 1/3 of a worked punch her way.

Despicable yes... but not much physically.

Rose tinted glasses? or... do THOSE EYES LUST ELIZABETH!?!!?

  139. I was at this show and I've never seen a crowd hotter than when Honky shoved Liz. Even Mania crowds are tame compared to that reaction. Sometimes less is more. Now a diva can be tombstoned and nobody gives a shit.

    ReplyDelete
  140. If anyone did something with Liz they'd wind up in a Dexter kill room.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Weed and coke should've been his WCW entrance song

    ReplyDelete
  142. that's because no one gives a shit about the divas today. we all cared about Liz, that is the real difference.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Exactly. All of these divas are interchangeable and mean nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I was he was more concerned with people fucking his wife than a pretend wrestling angle.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Jake slapping Liz over Savage's dead body could have made millions if they'd just have put it on Survivor Series but they wasted it on a ppv nobody watched and then stuck it on friggin Supertape'92

and then Monsoon and Heenan miss the best part, the bag was empty!

  146. and after being given the heat of shoving Elizabeth down, Honky Tonk refuses to drop the title... what a great guy

    ReplyDelete
  147. I was in 10th grade when this happened. My friends and I wanted Savage to kill Honky.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I remember pitching that here a couple years ago and even showing some of their encounters in Memphis that were on YouTube. General consensus is Savage was too paranoid to let his wife get that close to Rude.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Hell Savage throwing Liz down in the dressing room when the Megapowers exploded was probably a bigger bump than either of the two mentioned. She went flying.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Also when the Twin Towers dumped Savage over the top rope, right DOWN to her, in SNME.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Which is sad, because if you read Bret's comments, Rude was nothing like his character, but rather a guy who "never took his ring off".

    ReplyDelete
  152. also add; just after WrestleMania 5 on superstars etc. they aired footage from backstage of Savage grabbing Elizabeth by the arm
    Liz; "Randy you're hurting me"
Randy; " Yeah? Well I hurt to!"

they never showed or used the footage again though... think it came across as almost too real

    ReplyDelete
  153. Liz was a bump machine. Who knew?
