Muraco's Monday Morning Matches of the Week - [s2, e8]

TITLE MATCHES! 4 big title matches here. Three great matches, and one of the biggest stories of the year when a main event title match ends in a legit bloody shoot (!) that will be referenced for years to come.

ZERO1: Kohei Sato (c) vs. Masato Tanaka - [2/8/15]

For the ZERO1 World Heavyweight Championship, as Sato defends against the legendary Tanaka. This match had everything I love about wrestling: Hardway blood from legit headbutts, vintage Masato Tanaka no-selling, and 2.9999 counts. Super heated down the stretch.

NOTE: The bullshit pop-up spam stops about halfway through.

.

BJW: Shuji Ishikawa (c) vs. Yuji Okabayashi - [2/2/15]

Big Hoss Style! Another absolutely killer match. Shuji Ishikawa defends his BJW Strong Style Championship against the recently returning Yuji Okabayashi. Two big fuckers beating the living shit out of each other. Another one that has the crowd losing their minds by the end.

AJPW: Go Shiozaki (c) vs. Zeus - [2/7/15]

For the AJPW Triple Crown World Heavyweight championship. Granted, Shiozaki looks to be calling each move one-by-one, but you gotta give credit to the former ZERO1 U.N. champion Zeus (NOT Tiny Lister from HBO's 1st & 10), dude has a ton of star power and moves well in there. Shiozaki puts together a pretty good match here, and Zeus plays his role to a tee.

STARDOM: Yoshiko (c) vs. Act Yasukawa - [2/22/15]

Finally, this one is the story of the week by far. For reasons we don't fully know yet, Yoshiko & Act Yasukawa don't even waste time trading holds, they just legit THROW DOWN. An ugly, ugly scene as Yoshiko absolutely thrashes Yasukawa, breaking multiple bones in her face.

  1. That shoot was nuts man. Love the Okabayashi/Ishikawa match, BJW is so underrated man, they have a stacked roster and tear shit up. Sekimoto and Okabyashi are just money.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Yoshiko was stripped of the title and fired from Stardom. She decided to legit shoot Act Yasukawa because she didn't want to drop the belt to her.
Now Act might be blind in one eye and will need months to recover, really disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  3. A bit of controversy would be good right now. Anything to break up the dull tedium that is WWE broadcasting at the minute.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Watching Yoshiko, I can only conclude that Brock Lesnar really was going easy on John Cena at Extreme Rules.

    ReplyDelete
  5. This exact Brock situation in...1985-2012? Awesome. He draws enough buys to maybe make it worth something.

This Brock situation in a weird land where PPV buys aren't a thing? Not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Next week, Bryan or Reigns vs Show or Kane! Triple H calls out a mid-50s guy who's never worked with him! Orton doesn't commit to being face or heel so no one gives a shit! FAST LANE TO WRESTLEMANIA MAGGLE

    ReplyDelete
  7. Well done piece that gets most of the details right....except calling Hassan a 'talented wrestler.'

I could honestly watch a 20-minute superclip just of shocked reactions after Undertaker's loss. That never gets old.

  8. Now that Mir beat Silva on Saturday, there's no debate to be had here now. Brock vs Mir III is so much money, and I hope he does it. If he beats Mir, there's a bunch of semi-washed up heavyweights like Overeem he can fight as well. He can have his own little legends division.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That Yoshiko looks a proper evil bitch as well.

    ReplyDelete
  10. We already have people doing your exact schtick, we don't really need other.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes, PPV buys don't really matter BUT they have to sell the Network somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  12. If they know that Lesnar isn't that big draw, why hadn't they switched the title to Rollins at the Rumble? Reigns vs Rollins would have been a much more interesting match than Lesnar vs Reigns (at least IMO). Even Bryan vs Rollins. They could have made then something like Cena vs Lesnar as their final encounter - if Lesnar leaves. Or put someone else over Lesnar like Ryback or Cesaro.

  14. Yep, anything to shake up the old tired vanguard. There are no big rivalries or even stories just the same old nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nothing has been decided yet with regards to 世Ⅳ虎's punishment.

She apologized for her actions in a meeting with Stardom today.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It's not worse than Scott's Reigns Hater gimmick

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ok, reading from http://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/2wuafs/update_on_act_yasukawa_after_being_hospitalized/ I was under the impression that she was forced to leave Stardom. If it's not the cas I hope they fiure her ass.

Love how the ref in that second women's match no-sells the bump and red mist and throws the match out in disgust. "Fuck this..."

    ReplyDelete
  19. Shades of WCW when you think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Probably know by tomorrow. They are discussing the punishment along with whatever measures they can take to assure that something like this doesn't happen again.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Exactly. Brock had this aura of being a completely different animal. It was fresh and unique.

But Cena beating him and cutting a promo afterwards really damaged that. They could've salvaged it a bit by having Brock just tear HHH apart, but no - we had to have Hunter actually be competitive.

They just didn't have the balls to go all out with him, which is what they do with evetything these days unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't think Brock can beat his way out of a wet paper bag in UFC anymore. And I think that a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Am I missing something? Looked to me like Yasukawa threw the first punch? Then proceeded to get her ass kicked. Was that first strike part of the show, then things go nuts? Hard to tell for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. They started off working, then it turned into a shoot.

If Yasukawa knew it was a shoot from the start, he actions would have been much different.

    ReplyDelete
  25. i made 2 posts and considered troll and he keeps posting junk about Reigns and he's a saint.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Pretty solid, agreeable list, although I would have got rid of Sting vs. Jeff Hardy and had David Arquette in the top ten.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think the Triple H feud damaged him much more than the one with Cena. because it was the Triple H feud where we first got Lesnar involved in typical "WWE segments" again.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Me and my love WatchMojo. We would binge watch it from time to time

    ReplyDelete
  29. What did you *think* the reaction to those insightful posts would be?

    ReplyDelete
  30. FWIW, Meltz has been saying that while he could see Brock wind up staying, going back to UFC or even Bellator, he thinks Brock stays in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think for the most part, and while they can't admit this, they're pretty much tapped out on Network subscriptions unless they can make the product hot again.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bellator doesn't have good heavyweight division, it's also time to someone to take Velasquez throne.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Brock has no real chance as a legit contender in the UFC heavyweight division; his standup just isn't good enough, as Cain and Overeem showed. However, this is the same division that just featured Mir vs. Bigfoot in the main event on Sunday. I could see them doing a money match with Mir to end their trilogy, and maybe another fight or two after that. He could easily fight in the UFC as long as he wants.

I think the medical rumors are a smokescreen. It's really easy to get cleared. Guys like Chris Leben and Chuck Liddell started to sound REALLY punch drunk by the end of their careers, but only retired because Dana made them. Other guys who have taken severe beatings, like Joe Lauzon and Nate Diaz, are still fighting and will continue to fight at least for a few more years.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't think there's enough data to say there's no money in anybody before they actually get on top

    ReplyDelete
  35. The loss to Cena was bad but I understand it, you don't know if Brock will honor his commitment so you always have that match in your back pocket. It was also one of the best WWE main events ever.

The HHH loss was totally incomprehensible

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's a swerve. They're trying to work the crowd into thinking that Brock is staying so they don't end up with another Lesnar WrestleMania 20 situation on their hands.

    ReplyDelete
  37. We had a controversy last year -- Punk leaving -- and that didn't make things any better in the long run.

    ReplyDelete
  38. "He doesn't want to work that much and he gets paid a redonkulous amount for the few dates he has."

Numerous reports have said that Brock is willing to work more dates, it's just that WWE doesn't want to pay him to do so. Problem is, the more they use him, the less special he becomes.

Other than that, you're correct here.

  39. Matt_INDEED is a GIANT PUSSY!February 24, 2015 at 6:53 AM

Cain isn't losing to Brock. Won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Willing to work more, but I doubt that means he wants to work 6-9 months of Raws and specials (and even if he did, the price would be astronomical). I mean, would doubling the number of appearances be enough? Probably not.

Just let Cena get his win at the Rumble and be the guy to put Reigns over at Mania. Then Brock can put Rusev over as the new monster before he goes

Im not sure what they consider controversial about Owen dying.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Lesnar resigns ... sometimes I think we underestimate what an absolute grind it is to train to be an MMA fighter. Brock is 37 years old and wrestling 5 times a year versus fighting three times a year with a six to eight week camp before each find is really a no-brainer.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My favorite is when Vince stares right into the camera and says that the WWF was a drug-free zone. Great comedy.

    ReplyDelete
  46. People that don't think Brock could at least be competitive in the UFC have no idea how thin the HW division is. He's not going to be Cain, but there's matchups w/ Mir (very winnable) and Overeem (winnable since Overeem seems to not be eationg as much, ahem, horse meat). I personally think Brock is very valuable to WWE. All they really need to do is have him work a couple extra PPV's. Had they not wasted one of his appearances a month after Summerslam, I don't think his absense would've been as noticeable the past year.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think that might be part of the draw, if Brock doesn't think he can be the same fighter he was five years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You people really think that Brock's win-loss record matters? You think if he had won all of those matches, that casual fans would just be tuning in in droves and subscribing to the Network? Come on.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't understand why they didn't just book Brock to work one major angle a year spanning 3 PPVs or so. Instead of pulling him out 4 times a year with a few random RAW appearances, you could consolidate his working dates into one 3 month stretch and do a proper angle with him, then he comes back next year for another long program.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The HHH series was totally bewildering. Why the fuck was a for all intents and purposes retired figure in a three match feud with the hottest property in sports?!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but if you're being serious...I didn't say that. I said relegating him to 'just a wrestler' status in his first match ruined his legitimacy. When he's just another guy - very much a sports entertainer - then he's basically useless. He ceases to become a special attraction and loses all the real world cred he gained in UFC.
