Roman Reigns = RATINGS

...for stuff on the other channels.

Hey, don't worry, things will pick up again when it's Wrestlemania season!

Seriously, I don't think I could possibly come up with worse ways to book the top players right now.  How hard is it for Rusev to keep coming out as "Russia #1, USA, HOCK-PTOOEY!" and Cena's all like "Hey, America is the home of free speech so shut the fuck up, commie!" and then they fight?  It's worked for SIXTY FUCKING YEARS NOW.  You bring out Cena with an American flag and a Marine honor guard for Wrestlemania and this shit writes itself.  But instead the heat is supposed to be because John Cena, who is 5 years or so younger than the average age of the RAW viewership, is the grizzled old veteran who is too old and beat up to face the young lion.   Oh, and apparently top babyfaces Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns are too stupid to figure out that HHH is manipulating them, even though he goes on TV and SAYS SO.

On the bright side, NXT will glorious tomorrow night.

  1. Yeah but it is getting HHH over, he's the cerebral assassin jack!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Am I too optimistic that they MIGHT actually see this and go..hmmm maybe people really don't want to see Big Show and Kane. Yeah I know more likely HHH is going "See...See what happens when I don't start the show with a 30 minute promo segment."

    ReplyDelete
  3. Have a shitty opener, then REBOOK IT for 2 hours later?? That might be something.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Just about everyone from Meltzer, Keller, to PWInsider are shitting all over last night's RAW. And funny how Cena is the grizzled vet when he is a few years older than Ziggler and Bryan, and does not even look old to begin with. He is still in his prime.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hey WWE.....BETTER CALL SAUL!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Based on the past say 14 years of evidence I'd say yes, you are being too optimistic.

  7. Dream match: John Cena vs Tanahashi.

    ReplyDelete
  8. But where would we BE if Cool Funny Guy and his wife aren't the smartest people in the room?

    ReplyDelete
  9. ................Kane and Big Show waddle out to be The authority's Monster Enforcers....but Cena is the old grizzled vet.....

    ReplyDelete
  10. Guess you can say that viewers are ROMAN away from the product?

    Eh? Ehhhh? ROMAN away? Roaming?

*taps the mic* Hello? Hello, is this thing on?

  11. 2 drink minimum people. Try the veal.

  12. Bryan comes back and ratings go down. I don't think its coincidence.

    ReplyDelete
  13. But yeah, no football, Better Call Saul only in the third hour, still had a 14% ratings drop.

EVERTHING IS FINE! EVERYTHING IS AWESOME! EVERYTHING IS COOL WHEN YOURE PART OF A TEAM!

    ReplyDelete
  14. The drop was slow. The big problem was the small amount of viewers they got in the first hour, which was an awful hour of television

    ReplyDelete
  15. How about......

HHH: "I'm sick of you Daniel. I'm just going to break you, and make you quit. I am going to just run you in a 5 match gauntlet tonight because VINCE DID THAT TO ME in 1999 and I am going to see if you will leave in one piece. See you at your funeral"

    ReplyDelete
  16. So... was last week's big RAW rating an outlier boosted by them airing the Rumble matches the week before, or is the half million or so drop in viewers this week the anomaly? A look at the 18-49 rating shows they scored a steady 1.2 all 3 hours. That's close to their average, meaning it was the younger and older viewers who didn't even bother to tune in last night. There was no notable competition (Better Call Saul did well, but only went up against RAW's 3rd hour, which held up well all things considered).

I'm wondering if the Rumble outcome & WWE's subsequent booking basically chased away all the fans they picked up when football ended? Guess we'll see next week, but between that and the talk of the #CancelWWENetwork thing having a bigger impact than expected, suddenly we're back to the gloomy outlook of the beginning of the year.

  17. Vince: THATS TOO CONVOLUTED GODDAMMIT

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bob Odenkirk as Saul would make for a fun week of Raw. Vader can even come back for a week as his personal security guard.

  20. One thing they need to do is to stop having Reigns, Bryan, Rollins, Big Show, Kane, etc. to STOP HAVING MATCHES with one another in various different forms from week to week (and twice this past week!) and expect us to care by the time the PPV/Special Event/Whatever rolls around and we get the same old shit.

    ReplyDelete
  21. OH NO, Dont you hate it when competition destroys your ratings?

For the record, Vince wont blame the drop on Reigns. It'll be blamed on Bryan for being added to the top mix in the last week, considering how quickly the ratings crashed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. They went with Rocky Balboa when they should have gone with Rocky IV.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'd much rather see John Cena va Shinsuke Nakamura.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's like a half million of last week's viewers said "nah... pass."

    ReplyDelete
  28. No, sorry you don't like my opinions but you've hardly spoken to me enough to know whether I am one or not. If you'd like to rectify that situation we can discuss wrestling at length, or something else that suits your fancy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jon stewart stepping down from the daily show!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Then that means Rusev would have to kill Zack Ryder in the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Now's a good time as any. I figured this was going to happen since he directed the movie.

Those are going to be some big shoes to fill. Ah well...we still have Last Week Tonight, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  32. WWE is basically filling a vacuum now that exists because too many people are spending their time with activities that don't translate into it. However if they would increase the activation then the many would indeed be groups of people. Now one might wonder why the current conundrum about TV ratings when in fact the temperate climate in Haiti is more apt to be a trend to behold. I beg to differ!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Biff Kensington Has a PosseFebruary 10, 2015 at 5:16 PM

Do you still speak to dead people?

    ReplyDelete
  34. The scary thing is TWD might have set another record if not for the Grammys. As it was they were a few tenths shy of last year's mid-season premiere.

  37. Perhaps don't write shitty TV. And ratings almost always drop from first hour to 3rd hour, so why put the main event on last when fewer people are watching? Until WWE starts booking (yes booking) smart TV that doesn't suck, nothing will change no matter who is on top.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can sense your cuntitude.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Are you suggesting that they don't use Kane and the Big Show in prominent spots any longer? I'm not sure if you realized this or not, but they're both big. And the big show has large hands.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Be sure to tip your servers!

    "More Big Show and Kane!"

    - Vince

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's easy for you to say...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ryder is due for another US title match one would think. As Scott said, this stuff writes itself.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Awesome. He stopped being funny or original ten years ago. Now he simply makes funny faces and noises while republicans do something stupid

    ReplyDelete
  45. Man how do you fuck up a 'Murica angle? Could've easily had the flag not drop again as a storyline point to mess with Rusev. And this whole Cena is too old shit is ridiculous. He can clearly still go he's not breaking down like Flair or Undertaker and Rusev is not the guy to do that kind of a story with anyway. Do it with a guy you want to be the next top babyface or monster heel.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Removing Triple H would help ratings. You can refer to Raw as 'Better Cull Paul'

    ReplyDelete
  47. Only ones that my producers scouse out of unsuspecting audience members before my shows

    ReplyDelete
  48. Likening Zack Ryder to Apollo Creed is the greatest compliment he's ever received.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have tickets to Wrestlemania and I don't even watch this weekly crap!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm *really* curious how bad things are going to get post-Wrestlemania. I imagine subscriptions will drop back to that 700K base and eventually live gates will go down if they don't figure things out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Remember that the ratings are an average of the hour. And given that the main event was always one of the highest rated segments when we used to get quarter hour breakdowns, imagine how low the 10:15-10:45 shit must rate. But I agree that poor main events don't help.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Watched the Samoa Joe vs Kenta Kobashi match from ROH in 2005 earlier today. Good God was that violent and amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  53. But only in person. Which begs the question of why they don't just use him for live shows where he might actually be a bit of a draw along with Jericho and all of your favorite Attitude Stars. Also you can see a few good live show matches from the week on the WWE Network!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Outside of clothing style, does Cena look AT ALL different from 2004 to 2015? When I look at pictures from both years, I can't tell which is which unless there's an opponent like Booker in it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Any chance they're not doing the MURICA angle because they're worried it would turn off international viewers?

Also, any chance Bryan will get blamed for the bad ratings since they put the spotlight on him again?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think it was around 06 when he started shaving most of his hair off rather than just cut it. Other than that, I dunno.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Another off topic post from me, but is there any reason at all to start watching ROH's TV show on the website?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Seth Rollins' penis is at fault.

By the way, notice how TMZ didn't report the Rollins thing even though that's their type of story but always "breaks" WWE news? Wonder how much Vimce pays them to "cover" their stories

    ReplyDelete
  59. Or they can have Mark Henry be his personal 'Huell'.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The Rumble proves they're not worried about turning off viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  61. yeah, he'll be 38 right after Mania- that's old for, say, basketball or football, but we've clearly seen Boxing, Baseball, Hockey, and MMA guys succeeding at that age. Let's cool it on the "he's washed up" storylines, just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh those ratings are 1000% Bryan's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  63. For me, the opener and main event tells you everything you need to know.

See this match where Big Show and Kane get to look dominant over the next pay per view's main event? Well now you get to see them look dominant again later tonight.

I really do think a lot of this can be blamed on Big Show and Kane's huge pushes. Why would I, or anyone for that matter, want to sit through those two running wild on TV and beating up everyone they face with their rare losses meaning nothing to them? Bryan beat Kane in a regular match and then a gimmick match and it doesn't seem to mean a thing. Reigns pins Big Show, Big Show pins Reigns, and Rollins, the interesting guy in the whole thing, is just there as a filler until we get to more Kane and Big Show. It's so annoying and has been going on for months now with no end in sight.

Oh and shut up about the Survivor Series. Somehow we're almost three months after that show and they're STILL dealing with fallout from it. And it's the same fallout: the Authority likes to torment people who cost them their jobs for a month (because we can't live without the Authority you know) and those guys have hard matches. Ziggler of course loses them clean because we need to build up Wyatt for an Undertaker match and there is ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE COMPANY but Ziggler to put him over.

One last thing that came off as so stupid last night: Cole saying he's heard a rumor that if Cesaro and Kidd beat the Usos, they might get a title shot. Not only does it sound stupid, but there's no one else on the roster for them to beat but the champs? There are how many people in NXT waiting for a call up and we're still stuck sitting through the same 3-4 teams on the main shows?

Summarized version: if WWE would stop and think or actually use some fresh ideas, people might watch.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Even basketball or football. Look at Tim Duncan or Peyton Manning.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I still can't believe almost 4 million people watch this shit. Including me.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would actually start watching RAW again if Iron Sheik comes back and humbles Cena each week.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Are you accusing a tabloid paparazzi establishment of not having journalistic ethics and not being on the level?

[monocle pops off eye, explodes somehow]

    ReplyDelete
  68. But you have to use WWE Logic, whereas Vince REALLY believes pushing Reigns to the moon is the right choice and Vince REALLY believes that international fans would be turned off by a pro-USA storyline and thinks "old grizzled vet John Cena" is the way to go.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I could see Ryder in the red, white and blue coat and top hat, fist bumping to Living in America. Then, Rusev murders him, while Cena stands there and watches him die.

Then, Cena needs to go to Russia to train, specifically running up a goddamn mountain.

Seeing Del Rio cut loose has been good so far (I'm a wrestler! I'm not a fucking sports entertainer!) And there's a good flashy spot fest match every week. It's enough to keep you busy for an hour.

  72. Theberzerker Von HUSSingtonFebruary 10, 2015 at 8:19 PM

    NXT will be fucking awesome.

RAW is hopeless until Vince dies or is incapacitated...so it's just sit back and see how many lame Manias we get until fate intervenes.

  73. The Love-Matic Grampa!February 10, 2015 at 8:33 PM

They're fucking up Cena/Rusev? I mean, I still think the feud is a bad idea and will help no one, but I still expected them to do it RIGHT. I mean, Super Patriot vs. Foreign Heel is literally the easiest feud in the world to book. How do you mess that up? How?!?

    Unbelievable.

  75. Better Call Saul looking great though.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah I opted to start watching. Starting with the most recent show on the site.

    ReplyDelete
  77. yeah, there you go.

    ReplyDelete
  78. If Vince was really worried about the international fanbase, then he would have stopped doing Tribute To The Troops at least five years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Has Ryder even gotten his rematch since he lost the U.S. title three years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Remember when Raw did a really bad rating in December of 2011 when Zack Ryder, CM Punk, and Daniel Bryan wrestled against Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler, and the Miz in the main event?

Remember when Zack Ryder got the blame for the shitty ratings? Do you think Reigns will get any blame?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Ratings have actually been up since he's been back. I think it's the inclusion of that long haired guy who hasn't done anything of note outside of tag team with Rollins and Ambrose.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Since I'm not going to look it up... Who IS the youngest 'star' on the roster? Rollins? Seems like everyone else is at least 32

    ReplyDelete
  83. To be fair, I certainly wouldn't watch anything Ryder was involved in.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm honestly tempted to get cable just for that.

    ReplyDelete
  85. So...just out of curiosity...does anyone think the Bryan backlash stuff *might* mean Vince's read on things was initially right? I'm undecided myself but maybe it's a possibility...?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Maybe it's Hogan's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I doubt terrorists watch wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Maybe they wrote the storyline for Hogan and had to put Cena in his place.
