Sporting News: Rey Mysterio released from his contract

Comments

  1. He deserved a better sendoff than what he got though.

  2. It's insane when I think about this, but from January 2007 to April 2014 Rey Mysterio only wrestled on 42% of WWE's PPVs because of his injuries:

  3. Yeah. At least have him address the crowd on RAW

    ReplyDelete
  4. Despite everything he'll always be one of my favorite wrestlers ever. And one of the few who I followed since his days in south of the border

    ReplyDelete
  5. WWE still wanted to use him. I'm sure they would've loved to promote a PPV as "Rey's last match."

It was Rey who didn't want to be in WWE anymore.

  6. Well, I guess Rey is free now. At least Konnan can stop that stupid hashtag now.

  7. Yeah for real, I think he's actually wanted to leave for a while now so they would've had some time to prepare something. I think the story with Rey was that he went to Hunter to ask to be let go but Vince overruled him and tried to re-sign Rey to a contract extension instead. I mean, he was right to go ask Hunter but he was naive to think that Hunter's word had any credibility with Vince still in charge

  8. I believe Rey's contract actually ran out but instead of releasing him the WWE opted to roll over the contract due to his taking time off due to injuries. While the WWE may have had the "legal" right to do that it wasn't the right thing for them to do. That move is what caused Rey's bitterness to the WWE.

  9. I forgot about that. That is low as hell. Rey is one of their most loyal and most professional fighters too

  10. probably one of the few but i felt that his main event run was pretty painful to the eye.. i just hated when he made the big guys fall to the 2nd rope for he to run around and do that kick thing. i just think he was great as a cruiserweight but i just couldn't suspend my disbelief. he's always rey jr to me.

  11. "His last appearance on PPV was Royal Rumble 2014..."
I believe he appeared in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX.

  12. Yep, he did. Hopefully they can bring him back for a HOF spot years down the road. He deserves it.

His last appearance was him getting booed out of the building, and getting jobbed out to a returning Wade Barrett.

This may have been said in another thread, but I don't care I'm saying it...

EDIT: Rey was in the Andre the Giant Wasted Talent Battle Royal last year too. He was booed slightly, mainly by marks who watched the Rumble and thought he must have turned heel to get the reaction he did.

  17. TJ: im not watching lucha underground but im assuming homicide y hernandez are tagging?

Tell methey have not booked that

  18. Finally Rey can go do something he will enjoy. I stopped caring for his WWE run around 2006 but enjoyed everything he did up to then.

    ReplyDelete
  19. His '95-'97 stuff is incredible, and his '02-'03 run in WWE was really good, too, but he started breaking down around 2004, and I didn't enjoy watching him as much from then on.

  20. poor rey.im glad hes leaving though konnan will book him good

I'm happy that Rey can finally break his patellas on a weekly basis in peace.

  22. Is he the most successful WCW guy in the WWE that joined after the purchas?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hey, you following Konnan on Twitter is your problem, dude.

  24. I'm afraid I've got some bad knees...

  25. I suppose, if you define success by titles won.

I would probably choose Stacy Keibler.

  26. He was an undercover part-timer

  27. Booker T maybe? Booker T is in the Hall of Fame...

    RVD and Jericho as well.

  29. It's sad that Rey had to job to Cena right before CM Punk returned, I'd like to think the Company would have gone in a different, better direction if they had the balls to go with Punk v Mysterio, champion vs campeon

He worked at South of the Border?

Isn't there a young wrestler that calls himself Rey Misterio in Mexico? vince could just sign him.

    ReplyDelete
  32. But Jericho was pre-purchase and RVD was ECW. I'd say it's Rey.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You know what? fuck him- he should be wrestling Ambrose in a career vs career match at mania, if he had half the integrity his father did (look it up), he would do the right thing to at least TRY to protect the business and get Ambrose over

    ReplyDelete
  34. Got some cheap fireworks and fake Mexican merch from him there once. It was during his no mask/devil horns faze.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What changes? Nash still texts himself and Alberto Del Rio cashes in at Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Cool. I was a fan for a couple of years when he first showed up in 2003, but by 2005 that was enough. Lucha guys are unwatchable.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bill him as Rey Mysterio III and have him wear a monocle over his mask and wave a silver spoon at the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Rey WISHES that he could get hollowed out by George Clooney on a yacht in the Aegean.

    ReplyDelete
  39. His WWE title win in 2011 and then loss to John Cena in the same night was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. Good for him getting the hell out of dodge. He doesn't owe the company anything.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Vince to Rey: You'll come crawling back here!
    Rey: You think I'll beg?!
Vince: No. But the way your knees are, I don't see you walking back.

    ReplyDelete
  41. He should be happy he ever even got the WWE title for 2 seconds.
