Why is Reigns still in the Shield?

Hey Scott,

Was just thinking, is the fact that Reigns basically the same guy he was in the Shield hurting him?

In the past, if a tag team broke up and Wrestler A was getting a push, that guy would get a total make over (Re: Rick Martel, HBK, JBL, Scott Steiner) Meanwhile, the other guy, if nothing was really in the works for him, would basically do the same old pre-break up stuff (Marty, Tito, Rick Steiner),

With the Shield, it's entirely reversed. Rollins and Ambrose got new and distinct personalities, outfits and music while Reigns (Intense love of Looney Tunes aside) is basically the same guy was before.

Shouldn't they be doing everything possible to help him stand out?

That is the LEAST of his problems, but yes, absolutely.  If anything Ambrose should have kept the Shield music and look because it fits his character and personality.

Comments

  1. If they were interested in getting them over, they'd just have to take it seriously and invest time.

But they're not and never will be at least as long as Vince and Dunn are running the show.

They'd also have to change the type of women they hire and go after athletic women and women who have prior fighting experience. But you're already hearing that Charlotte's not hot enough to be a "diva," so good luck with that.

  2. I think Reigns is the best fit for the music and look of the Shield. If they changed his look and music people would be blaming that for not getting over. The big issue is not really giving him a personality or a dominant presence.

I agree. With Ambrose being the crazy one, it makes sense that he would be the one to cling to the past and keep the music, gear, etc. He could have even recruited new Shield members (from NXT or even guys like Cesaro). Reigns should be his own man, especially since he is the one who pretty much no-sold the Shield break-up

  6. To be fair, the male championship is pretty far down on the list of goals, too. You most want Triple H's respect,if you can't get that then a movie role,if you can't get that a Hanna Barbara role, then maybe if you fail at all that try to win the world title.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think the injury's the biggest problem. That was time he would have presumably been beating midcarders so he looked like a rising star. Now he just looks like a guy who got lucky at the rumble then beat Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The Shield was badass and they want to realize Reigns was what made it badass.

    ReplyDelete
  9. the ring gear actually bothers me. He's huge, has a cool tattoo, and they just hide it all in those cargo pants and flack jacket. Why? If he's ripped and impressive, that needs to be evident.

    So dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Can we all just accept that everything that WWE did to try and push Reigns as the Next Big Thing was totally and utterly miscalculated?

    ReplyDelete
  11. In kayfabe, it bothers me that a guy who struggled for weeks trying to beat the Big Show and couldn't even get a pinfall win over Kane beat Daniel Bryan, the guy who beat Evolution in one night on top of beating Kane in back to back weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They have him cut promos. If you wanted him to get over, you would have to make him completely unique.

He's really good at trash talk when he's in the ring, have him do that instead. A guy who bats away every mic handed to him in favor of kicking someone's ass is bound to get over.

Ambrose managed to pull off being unique before they cut his legs off. He doesn't wear wrestling gear because he's fucking insane. It's a miracle the guy even shows up, much less taking the time to play dress up.

But there's nothing unique about Reigns. He just comes out through the crowd and proceeds to be the same guy everyone else has been for the last 25 years.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've always believed that wins and losses (and how they're obtained) as well as how a wrestler performs in certain situations can make or break themselves and even other guys completely.

Not only did Bryan beat Evolution, he's beaten Big Show and Kane. More importantly, he kicked the shit out of the Shield by himself on more than one occasion.

So the fact that Reigns can suddenly hang with and even beat Bryan comes off feeling weird.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ever since they discontinued the jerk off mags/dvds the Divas have slid further and further down the pecking order.

Because simply put that's all that Vince & Dunn see in them. Take that away and they get bored, if it wasn't for Stephanie i doubt they'd employ more than 3 or 4 women at all.Instead of the whopping 18 they have now.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agreed on Sasha and Charlotte staying in NXT forever. And Bayley as well, because I can only shudder at what they would do to her if she made the main roster...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Can they retrain the audience? Absolutely. They can train the audience to like pretty much anything, even if the process is painful and fraught with resistance.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Don't forget the Hall of Fame. Every wrestler has dreams of being in the WWE Hall of Fame.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It's like some chef preparing a dish and then forgetting to cook it or not cooking it long enough. You can have the best ingredients and preparation, but if you serve me lukewarm steak I'm not eating it. WWE decided that Regins has the series of moves at the end, a good look, good music and then stopped. They forgot to train him on full singles matches, promos, etc. Bear in mind I LIKE Reigns so I can only imagine how annoying it is for someone that dislikes the guy to see him getting this push without the proper platform.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's annoying enough to not watch tonight

    ReplyDelete
  20. He's really not that big, or at least cut. look at his old FCW run. He's just a mid-sized Samoan dude like Rock, but without the personality or steroids.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I really WANT to say you're wrong on this, Scott, but sadly you're probably right.

The only hope I (and we all) have is that WWE has done something similar before, retraining an audience. In the early 2000s, they successfully retrained fans to get away from the garbage wrestling and buy into submissions and mat-based wrestling. They did that by throwing guys like Benoit, Angle, Jericho and others out there week after week until it clicked.

Maybe there's the slimmest of slim chances that if Total Divas gets canceled next week and they call up the NXT women's division, there's hope that over time they could change people's perception. Barring that perfect storm scenario, yeah, the women are screwed.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It comes off weird because Reigns spent a majority of his WWE career as a tag team or three-man team wrestler, and just as he was beginning his singles push he went down with the hernia injury. He also really hasn't beaten anybody to set him up for Bryan. His match against Bryan was only his SECOND PPV singles match.
Hell, Brock Lesnar won that many singles matches in ONE PPV (King of
the Ring 2002) during his rocket push in 2002, and that was in a far
    shorter time period.

Reigns singles career trajectory is this:

    1) Beat Randy Orton at SummerSlam
    2) Missed a few months
    3) Won the Royal Rumble
    4) Traded wins with Big Show
    5) Beat Daniel Bryan at Fast Lane

That is REALLY inconsistent and more like 50/50 booking than a rocket push

    ReplyDelete
  23. Gotcha. Its just weird that they hide his body so much in a business where that is so important.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The huge test for Reigns will come AFTER Wrestlemania, when he will be expected to carry feuds and spend most shows cutting promos and not wrestling. And so far it's not looking good.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nah, he's pretty big, and in FCW at least he seemed to be more cut than Rocky was in his full-time wrestling days. He has shrunk since coming back from the injury.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ambrose making the shield Two to battle Rollins and the authority could have been great fun

    ReplyDelete
  27. Kinda off-topic, but I was surprised at how much support Reigns got last night. I was expecting it to be 90/10 in Bryan's favour, but it seemed to be close to 60/40 instead. The Roman Reigns chants were quieter than the "Let's Go Bryan" chants, but not by that much, and the finish got a decent pop.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i think people still want to root for him -- he got the rocket push for a reason -- it's just that the fans have been displeased how they've gone about it. Give him a well booked run like Batista's face turn going into WM21 and he'd be super over like Dave was

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love that idea of him swatting mics away so he can get back to kicking ass

    ReplyDelete
  30. You COULD retrain the audience by calling up the talented NXT women but it would take a lot of time and effort. Worth it? Absolutely. But try convincing Vince McMahon of that. It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What was that suplex he busted out 3 times last night? I guess that's another thing he added to his repertoire along with the outside of the ring boot to the face, superman punch, samoan drop (I think), and spear. So thats something.... I guess...or not.

    ReplyDelete
  32. BAYLEY TO BELLY! That was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ambrose definitely should've kept the Shield music but he doesn't even have the same character almost. Shield Ambrose was a calculating leader even if he was a bit of a loose cannon. Ambrose now is a buffoon. He should be pushed like Eddie Guerrero. Finds ways to out cheat the cheating heels.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The Amazing GamecockFebruary 23, 2015 at 9:12 AM

The music fits Reigns, if they want to portray him as a badass. However, he hasnt entirely been portrayed as a badass.

    First three feuds:

    2. Big Show
    3. Khali (he will be brought back)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Shouldve put him over in the fatal 4 way battleground match. That was when the crowd was hottest for him. Get the belt, have him get destroyed by Lesnar like Cena was. Spend the rest of the year killing everyone. And let that be the wrestlemania story, beating the one guy he couldnt beat. That would give people a reaso to care about him instead of....He's winning the royal Rumble, and going to wrestlemania because we said so. Oh and for the love of God DONT have Bryan come back at the rumble. That didnt do him any favors.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Amazing GamecockFebruary 23, 2015 at 9:13 AM

Look - a storyline that makes sense.

Ill give you 20 bucks to write for WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is why Roman Reigns is a flop IMO. He's supposed to be a bad ass then BOOK HIM LIKE ONE. Stop trading wins with guys who are over the hill or selling for The Miz. Would Lesnar sell for that geek? No. The goal should be "Lets try to get this guy to look as tough as Brock." And they failed spectacularly at doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Amazing GamecockFebruary 23, 2015 at 9:14 AM

If you just actually BOOK these women, not WRITE, them into compelling stories and maybe let them have a match longer than 5 minutes that was creatively put together, then maybe people will pay attention.

Yeah I'm totally OK with the NXT ladies tearing the house down every month and garnering huge respect over them getting jobbed out to the Bellas on a roll up after three minutes every week and having all their promos whittled down to saying "bitch" all the time because that's the only word in the Bella vernacular

  45. The young male hardcore fans have louder voices than women, children and the non hardcore males. Beyond the smarkpop (tm) Bryan isn't near as over as the hardcores like to think. Roman is very much over, it's just the cheers he gets are drowned out by the louder people trying to make the wwe take notice and bend to their whims.

    ReplyDelete
  46. "Yep Mode" Abeyance Brown ©February 23, 2015 at 9:20 AM

Yep, I could have easily seen Reigns as an inexperienced champ lose to a more powerful Lesnar at SummerSlam, only for him to learn and get better by Mania story wise.

    ReplyDelete
  47. He beat bigshow like four out of five times.

    ReplyDelete
  48. As has been said elsewhere, he missed some of that time with the hernia. I'm not totally convinced it makes all the difference, but it definitely makes some.

But when that happens, you absolutely have to switch gears. It's not fair to the guy your strapping the rocket to. Reigns would be so much better off if they did the HBK/Undertaker mini match Rumble thing with Bryan and having Bryan win.

Reigns isn't ready and we sure aren't ready for him.

    ReplyDelete
  49. On the other hand, Bret Hart kept the pink-and-black tights and Hart Foundation music while Neidhart started wearing those weird checkerboard suits and parachute pants with Owen Hart. Actually, Reigns could do worse than watch what Bret Hart did and emulate him. Hart, like Reigns, wasn't good on the mic and didn't try to do too much on his promos. Instead, he let his work speak for him. Reigns isn't as good a worker, obviously, but he can go. He needs to just focus on kicking ass in the ring, getting better as a worker and giving limited promos where he says some variation of "I'm going to kick your ass because I'm big and strong and I can."

    ReplyDelete
  50. Why is "main stage" wrestling so sloppy and lazily done these days? The tag title match had it's fair share of awkwardness too.

Bare-minimum booking is what we should call WWE's booking style.

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's the thing, back then they just stuck some shades on Bret and asked him to just say what came to mind. In today's climate he'd be given a lame rejected Cena script.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I see Sasha as being totally adaptable to the main roster and Total Divas with the Boss gimmick. Actually being talented is just gravy.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Nope, Bryan beat Kane in his first match back, then beat him again the week after, and THEN beat him in the casket match. Then he won the majority of the matches in the tag team turmoil, some by himself.

Reigns vs. Lesnar would have worked if it was booked like two fucking superheros squaring off. Superman vs. Doomsday type shit. Thor vs. Hulk. Instead, it's gonna be some goof beating an unstoppable monster with a spear and punch.

  74. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogFebruary 23, 2015 at 10:18 AM

That's true. It goes beyond the size thing though. It's not like he has been booked as particularly clever, technically-gifted, or resilient. He's just a guy with a few power moves. I think people would buy Brock vs. Bryan within the context of wrestling, despite the fact that DB would die in a real fight. Bryan is quick, clever, and technically-superior to most. He could be booked in a David vs. Goliath sort of match that would be credible. Reigns has nothing going for him in that regard. They don't want it to be David vs. Goliath, but it's also not Unstoppable Force vs. Immovable Object either. It's nowhere near Hogan vs. Warrior and it's also not Vader vs. Sting

    ReplyDelete
  75. You didn't read the article. Scientists are now equating pedophilia to a sexual oreintation, not me. You claimed what I said as an opinion when it's not. It's science. I can source several other articles claiming the same belief if you want.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Great comparison. Unfortunately, we don't have a Batman to come in and save the day.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah, they hurt Reigns by putting him in various titles matches during the summer and having him lose. If they weren't going to put him over in those circumstances, he shouldn't have been in the match.

    ReplyDelete
  78. There were people in the audience doing "NO! NO! NO!" and the hand wave when he came out. Probably due to how his character has been booked recently... shades of whiny Bret Hart... so now neither of them are as over as they could be. WWE, y'all.

    ReplyDelete
  79. All under the cloak of the Authority, who will have some random complaint about Reigns and how he's a rebel.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It amazes me that the WWE after all of this time can't grasp that the people who get over are either a)entertaining (or have cool moves), b) given a lot of consecutive CLEAN wins, or c)both. Look back on the people who got near the top of the card like Austin, The Rock, early Cena, Bautista, Brock etc. Bryan's popularity comes from being entertaining in his skits with Kane and then being allowed to win matches convincingly over a long period of time. People like him and kayfabe-wise they know he's a good wrestler.
So far, Reigns has neither. As others have said, he has not been booked as the monster face that he needs to be to beat Brock. Brock turned away SuperCena and then Cena AND Rollins. Why would anyone think that Reigns has a chance against him?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I honestly think the ending last night on Fastlane (Bryan shakes Reigns' hand and says "You'd better kick his ass!") would have been better suited at the Rumble. Have Bryan enter early... Reigns enter at the midpoint... Bryan and Reigns at the end and after a hard-fought Final Two, Reigns eliminates him. THEN have Bryan shake his hand and do that. You're still not going to have overall happiness, but it's better than "whiny b*tch" Bryan and "petulant child" Roman Reigns heading into the Fastlane main event. C'est la vie. Time for Heyman to do whatever he can to salvage the WM main event...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Leave the women on NXT. The divas can stay on RAW. However, I want Paige back.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yes, I think it is a kind of mismatch. Even Reigns vs Rollins would be more interesting, because they are about the same size and because of the shield background. But even compared to The Rock Reigns looks small (even if they have about the same weight).

    ReplyDelete
  84. Now, I'm going to hear RR in my head, all day, signing "Look at this stuff, isn't it neat..."

    ReplyDelete
  85. I want to argue that he was given some solid wins against Evolution, but that was really the Shield as a unit.
Out of the Shield members, I'd say Rollins looks the best right now.

    ReplyDelete
  86. He's beat Big Show and Kane numerous times though, including in a Last
Man Standing match on Raw last year which was the night that Kane
relinquished his mask once again afterwards. Other than that terrible
loss to the Big Show on Raw a few weeks back, he's undefeated in singles competition from what I can tell.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Marketing campaign is not a push. Before winning the Rumble and beating Bryan, who did he beat? It's not a push unless he runs roughshod over a bunch of guys for an extended period of time.

    ReplyDelete
  88. HHH comes out of retirement. "Reigns, I feel threatened by your hair and your smoldering eyes."

    ReplyDelete
  89. I suspect that they'll give Reigns new music shortly before or after Wrestlemania. That always seems like an ideal time to debut someone with a new theme song (Austin, Cena, Batista, etc.) if they want to. The old Shield theme sounds bad-ass and suits him, but a new, original theme would make him stand out more, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  90. It's especially funny since they were able to build Rusev up very strongly by having him CRUSH everyone.

So how can WWE be so stupid in knowing how to build up a dominant heel (Rusev) but completely clueless how to do it with a dominant face (what they want Reigns to be).

    ReplyDelete
  91. Bryan's definitely got a lot of charisma and is the most consistently over guy in the company (especially as far as purely positive reactions go), but I'm starting to think his over-ness as of late has been more fragile than I'd expect. He hasn't been buried or anything since returning (losing to his personal thorn-in-the-side Wyatt, getting dumped out of the Rumble in unceremonious fashion, and losing clean to the heir apparent Reigns isn't ideal, but it's hardly terrible treatment either), but his reactions have seemed quieter lately. You could argue that WWE have mishandled his character with the "whininess" recently, but then WWE mishandles almost everyone's character (Reigns very much included).

I think the fact is that while most people would rather see Bryan main event 'Mania than Reigns, the desire isn't as strong as it was a year ago (where many Bryan fans' appetites were probably sated) and Reigns is simply more popular than many people believe. We'd like to think that the Rumble crowd was very representative of the overall fanbase, but I'm not convinced. Amongst the overall fanbase I think Bryan's still really popular and more popular than Reigns, but the disparity isn't quite as big as the especially "smarky" crowd at the Rumble made it seem.

    ReplyDelete
  92. What Reigns really need is some kind of intro part to his theme. His theme as it is now is like:
    Austin's without the glass breaking
Rock's without the "Do you / If you smell"
HHH's without the riff and "Time to play the Game"
    Shield's without the "Sierra, Hotel..."

I have the feeling McMahon will make the locker room come out to the ring and make them lift Reigns over their heads. While Lesnar shakes his hand and says something to the effect of "You're OK, Larusso!"

    ReplyDelete
  98. Then they passionately makeout. HHH then says its all a ruse, brings Katie Vick's corpse back, fucks it, Katie pins Reigns, Katie is WWE Champ until Aurora Rose is old enough to wrestle.

    ReplyDelete
  99. CM Punk, Randy Orton, The Miz, ADR, Seth Rollins, Big Show, Kane, Mark Henry, Luke Harper, Fandango, etc. Seven of those individuals are former world champions. He's also pinned the likes of HHH, Batista, and Rey Mysterio in tag team matches.

    ReplyDelete
  100. They probably think if his hair and looks are good enough for them it's good enough for us.

    ReplyDelete
  101. It all begs the question of why they bother with a divas division in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Him choking in multiple world title matches didn't help, either. Yeah, they were multi-man matches, but still.

I don't remember Austin or Hogan getting and blowing 2 or 3 world title matches before they got the belt.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Here's one little nitpick I have about Reigns "being the one to beat the 1 in 21-1" (although I guess it'll be 22-1 or 21-2 by the time the Brock/Reigns match happens): I don't think winning your first world championship by beating Brock Lesnar, the strongest booked guy in WWE history and the man who ended the Undertaker's Wrestlemania streak, is really a good idea. That sounds like the kind of victory you obtain only AFTER you've established yourself as "The Man" for about two or three years. I mean, Hogan didn't beat Andre to win his very first world title, he beat him after he had already spent a few years on top dominating and beating out most all the other competition. With Reigns though, he's STARTING OFF his main event run with what will likely be the biggest kayfabe victory of his entire career.

I know this can't really be helped since Brock just ended the Streak and they're less than 100% certain that he'll be signing a new deal and they want to go ahead and have him put over someone NOW while he still has a lot of momentum, but still. I also know you could probably poke holes in the criticism by bringing up examples like Warrior beating Hogan to win his first world title (although Warrior is considered by many to be a flop and one of the points that people argue is that Warrior just looked too invincible beating Hogan right out the gate), but I still think it's a valid point.

    ReplyDelete

  105. Oscar corespondents (for who, I dunno), E reality shows, keeping women employed because ladies can do stuff now. But yeah, another casualty of the brand split where you can use one show for the wrestling girls and the other for the catty model people headed to Playboy

  107. Four quick things:
    1. There's no such thing as misandry
    2. "Justice" is good
    3. A baker who won't bake a wedding cake if the people are gay does deserve to lose his livelihood. Hatemongers deserve poverty if not death. I realise this is a wrestling board, but you'd hope this backwoods yokel thing was a misinformed stereotype. This is 2015,our society has moved on from people like Jay Briscoe.
    4. "Social justice warrior" identifies you as a gamer gate troll now. Swastikas used to mean good luck, but if I wear one now,I'm a nazi. The yellow snake flag used to mean something else, but if I fly one now I'm a Neo-nazi.
Social Justice Warrior may have meant something else, but if you say it now it means you believe in made up things like "misandry" and calling women out for daring to review video games.

Oddly enough, the ultimate warrior was against social justice.

  108. It's not the audience that changed, it's Vince's mindset how he decides to use and views the Divas that changed.

  109. You are clearly young and idealistic, which unfortunately also makes you ignorant and immature. Time and the unforgiving realities of life will soon set you straight.

  110. Amongst other things, Reigns could really use a better finisher. The spear is probably the most overused finisher in the business at the moment, and Reigns' version doesn't really stand out in any meaningful way. Maybe even swap it with the "Superman" punch?

  112. Should be a powerbomb. Simple as that imo.

  113. Without the swat gear, Reigns looks no different than a generic muscle-bound guy in tights. The unique gear gives him more of a unique badass vibe.

  115. Austin technically did lose a couple of world title bouts before WM14 --- the four-way match at the February 1997 In Your House show, and then to Undertaker at the May 1997 IYH show (due to Hart Foundation interference).

  116. Some claims from scientists are not scientific fact until proven.

If you wish to claim that being attracted to the underage, regardless of their gender (apparently), is equal to being straight or gay as simply being someone's sexual orientation, then that's your prerogative to share that with people.

  117. their idea of making the women the main focus of the show was that joke of a bellas feud last year, and they had people buy into that grudgingly as a main storyline after summerslam, but then they had them just make up out of nowhere. They have no idea what to do these women

  118. Yeah it did involve a lot of crotch grabbing.

  119. Given that Trish and Lita got the over with the crowd to the point that they were allowed to main event a Raw, I'd say that we haven't reached a point where it's impossible to get the women's division over.

They'd just have to try, which we know isn't fucking happening

    ReplyDelete
  120. btw: that's what so weird about it... they actually employ quite a lot of women and hardly gain anything from it.

  121. I don't even think there would be that much of "resistance", at least not from the audience. who wouldn't like more interesting angles and matches over the stuff we usually get? (and many times when they had even slightly more interesting and prominent characters like Eve, AJ or Paige, the crowd mostly accepted and went along with it)

  122. Thank you for seeing it my way.

  123. I'm not, I disagree with your pro-pedophilia anti-homosexuality agenda.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Pretty disgusting if you think that's my agenda.

    ReplyDelete
  125. That's what I've been remarking since I first started replying to you. Welcome to yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I never once endorsed pro pedophilia or anti homosexualty. You mistook my stance as pedophilia as a sexual oreintation as something I endorse. I'm simply relaying scientific fact. I'm sorry you're not able to grasp that.

    ReplyDelete
  127. And as I have said, you aren't relaying scientific fact. Unproven theories abound in science, and there is a wide difference between these and facts.

There are some who may believe that a foot fetish is a sexual orientation. But it's not, just as pedophilia is not. They are fetishes. This is a simple definition which considers all species within the natural world. Some creatures can asexually reproduce, some require 1 or more partners. For example, the mallard breeds via gang rape.

There are many species which do not discern by age. Humanity is the only species which fetishises the young (or the old for that matter). The only apologists and rationalists for this are those with a predilection for the younger kind themselves.

The fascination in the last century and a half over eugenics has led to all sorts of atrocities in the name of breeding out or chemically castrating the undesirables; gays, the mentally ill, anarchists. The history of Sweden is especially shameful here for example, and then of course, there is the Holocaust. To name just some obvious and extreme examples.

So to go back to the start of this: do I think that we should be trying to 'cure' gay people? No, not at all. So, how come you're trying to legitimise child molesters as being equal to homosexuals and heterosexuals?

    ReplyDelete
  128. I appreciate the lengthy reply, and it is well noted. I think the misunderstanding we're having is that you're misconstruing the similarities to child molesters and pedophiles. Molesters, those that act on their sexual urges, should be jailed and punished. There is no place in the civilized world for their love. Pedophiles, those that do not act but still harbor these urges, need to be monitored and supplied with coping mechanisms to insure that they never act out on these urges.

    ReplyDelete
  129. God damn it. Typed up a length reply then accidentally wiped it.

Short reply: Whether it's down to autism as an explanation for a person sexually desiring children, or that they are a part of the cycle of abuse, it's tragic. But it's still not an orientation. It is still a fetishisation. I have great sympathy for all involved. Pedophiles and any people whose brains are severely affected enough that they can think and perhaps do very abnormal and profoundly selfish, unnatural things, are victims.

To be hetero or homosexual or some variation along gender lines, as a person's reproductive orientation, is just not comparable to a person requiring their partner to be less than 8 or more than 80, and more than it would be true that requiring your partner to be wearing a hat during sex, can be called an orientation.

    ReplyDelete
  130. My main point of this argument, above all, is that pedophiles need be monitored closely so that they do not act on their urges. Whether it is fact or not is something that is debatable, and something we've debated on, I think they can never "cured", and should be treated as such.
