BoD Daily Update

Brock Lesnar Update

While the exact reason as to why Lesnar walked out before RAW is still unknown, his argument with Vince McMahon was described as "loud and heated" and it became loud enough that people were became concerned, mainly for Vince. Also, at last Tuesday's Smackdown tapings, people within the WWE reportedly asked Vince if they needed to come up with a backup plan for the WrestleMania main event but Vince said no and assured them that Lesnar would be there working the show because he is contractually obliged to and said something to the effect that he would sue Lesnar if he did in fact no-show the PPV.

Samoa Joe Update

Independent promotions have been told that Joe will not be taking any more dates after April, which has lead to speculation that he might be signing with the WWE. Joe's last date for Ring of Honor is on April 25th.

  1. I think we know of one man who could defend the honor and prestige of the WWE Title if Lesnar walks out. He is the master and ruler of the word..............

  4. Finally all the "Vince hates Madusa for throwing the women's title in the trash can" rumors will be put to rest.

She's been featured on WWE.com several times and still gets royalty checks from the company. She's been on the company's good side for a while now.

That rumor always annoyed me because it made it seem like Vince was a mark for the belt. He of all people should've known it was just business, nothing personal.

Anyway, it would be hilarious if at the induction ceremony her inductor brings a garbage can and takes the old women's belt out of it.

  6. Any Brock "newz" I'm just going to go ahead and write off as bullshit until March 31.

  7. Things could change of course, but its looking more and more like Lesnar is done after WM. If enough word gets out about that, I fear a repeat of Brock/Goldberg at WM considering it will be against one guy who is leaving and another everyone apparently hates.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I remember some insider-y report in the local newspaper (probably just some guy with an Observer subscription - the times don't change that much) prior to Survivor Series '90 with a list of all the guys who were going to be gone right after the PPV: Neidhart, Ax, Honky Tonk, Valentine, Volkoff, Zhukov, Tanaka, and Sato. I didn't believe a word of it.

Then I watched the PPV and all those guys got jobbed out quickly and decisively. Couldn't believe it. And then Neidhart, Valentine and Tanaka kept their jobs (Honky did, too, I think, but left a month or so later). Never knew the real story about why half of them stuck around when they were apparently marked for death.

Stopping in just to share with you all this video of Hulk Hogan Appreciation Night. I was in the crowd, and it was such a moving experience to see such a hero of the ring be saluted and given his proper due. If only MSG would salute Sammartino and even Backlund with a similar banner (which I know will only be hung during WWE events -- still cool anyway).

MOST IMPORTANTLY, Hogan says ONCE AGAIN that's he got one more match left in him. The Reigns experiment will derail right after Mania and the final comeback of Hulkamania will reign supreme. It will FINALLY give me an excuse to watch WWE again.

The Summer of Hogan begins in three or four months. I'll see you all then!

  10. I've been watching Great American Bash 98 and it's a fucking sweet show so far. A great Benoit/Booker match that goes near 20 minutes, Saturn vs Kanyon and Jericho/Malenko up next. I know it's WCW and the show will fall apart as it goes on, but it's been a great first hour

  11. What if it started even earlier? Bret Hart was featured solo on the cover of the August 1988 issue of WWF Magazine with the byline of Bret "Hitman" Hart arrives Lean & Mean.

That was a legit BIG deal at the time. I know the Harts faced the Demos at Summerslam that year but it looks like someone at least considered pushing Bret as a singles act that year starting with a solo feud with Bad News Brown.

  13. There was a point when WCW's undercard coupled with WWF's main event scene was the greatest wrestling promotion of all time.

I know that's how I watched Raw and Nitro every week and it absolutely extended to their PPV's.

    ReplyDelete
  16. He did go solo for a while around that time. They seemed to always be flirting with the idea before actually going through with it, I was watching old Superstars episodes on YouTube and you'll get the random Bret singles squash match before his real push started.

    ReplyDelete
  17. WWE is lucky that Jon Stewart is a WWE fan. This could've turned out to be yet another example of WWE trying to cling to a mainstream star's fame only for it to backfire. Remember Charlie Sheen challenging Daniel Bryan to a match at SummerSlam 2012?

Then again, this will somehow turn out to WWE using Stewart to promote Roman Reigns, which will mean little or nothing to the typical WWE fan and even less to non-fans.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Watch HHH induct Sunny into the HOF just to fuck with Chyna.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  28. "They appear content on killing the overness of every face besides Cena and Taker on the roster so Reigns can be the top dog."

Heck, it's not just the people on the roster -- The Rock hasn't gotten booed like he did at Rumble 2015 in over a decade. Heyman's promo also put Reigns over just about every historical icon in the company's history.

All of WWE's 50-year history will be sacrificed in order to get Reigns over.

  33. Aye. Wasting Juventud here on a match with Reese, but then it's Eddie vs Chavo. Booker vs Finlay to come. Can't argue with this card much.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A more accurate assessment is do you send Joe to NXT where he can be booked like he did in 05 TNA or do you send Joe to the main roster where he'll end up getting booked like 03 Rikishi.

    ReplyDelete
  35. NXT. I doubt WWE fans know who he is unless he's intro'ed in a smark town.

  43. Did anyone else watch the RoH PPV last night? I thought it was pretty good, but not exactly memorable. I liked what they did with the Maria/ODB match, it was better than I expected. The main event was good and I thought the finish was ok. I always think a 4 way match needs a finish a little like that one...sort of clustery, without the guy that wins having to hit his finisher 5 times.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The truth on that situation came out a year or two back didn't it?

Basically Warrior didn't blackball or threaten anyone the day/week of the show but Vince got pissed and canned him anyway at least for a lil while.

    ReplyDelete
  56. True. I mean besides Bryan. Who else is over besides him that they're actively not killing?

  69. What's funny is that Brock works for Vince like 10 days a year. Brock was probably telling Vince as a professional courtesy, "I'm going to UFC 184." Vince didn't like it. But as I said, Brock works for Vince like 10 days a year. Despite what Vince thinks, he doesn't have the right to tell Lesnar what to do on his approximately 355 days off from WWE.

After all, Brock is an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR.

    ReplyDelete

  71. I was listening to Meltzer the other day and he was talking about how a good booker listens to the fans while a great booker manipulates the fans and it got me thinking how Vince is doing neither of those things at the moment. Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I liked it, but that's no surprise. I'm a bit immune to finishers in ROH. The matches are usually booked so the finisher is hit too early, out of cockiness, or when both competitors are absolutely dead.

I'm not a big fan of 4 way matches, though.

    ReplyDelete
  73. It was mentioned that anyone not named CenaTaker who is over is going to be sacrificed in some way to get Reigns over (Rock, Bryan).

If Brock stays, will he be added to the pile?

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'd add Ambrose and Ziggler to that list.

Ambrose was far more popular than Reigns with crowds, especially when Reigns was out with the hernia issue. As soon as Reigns comes back, Ambrose was jobbing to exploding TV sets and being a goof.

Ziggler was over as anything after Survivor Series. Once Reigns came back, Ziggler became an afterthought of an afterthought.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Well considering he'll be the one to put the strap on Roman doesn't that count?

    ReplyDelete
  76. I liked the finish as well. I was telling a buddy that is the sort of finish you should have for a 4 way match (not really a fan either since it really involves 2 guys fighting and 2 guys laying for the most part).

    ReplyDelete
  77. Vince is listening to his stockholders, if anyone. But the fans have proven that they'll support his ish no matter what, so he does what he wants with no repercussions.

    ReplyDelete

Vince is trying to create his post-Cena company star. Problem is, Vince has never really built a company star from the ground up. Hogan was hugely over before he returned to WWF in 1984. Austin, Rock, and Cena all got over because their own approaches to their characters connected with fans.

  89. Ditto. Back then, something like this would work, but it only works if the fans actually buy the other guy as a threat. No one is buying what Reigns is selling (take that however you want).

  120. Hogan killed Warrior out of the gate? Hogan was out of the title picture from Mania 6 until Warrior lost the belt.

As for lack of credible opponents, Reigns has the same problem. If Vince thinks fans will be invested in Reigns vs. Big Show or Kane post-Mania, it might be the most out-of-touch thing he's done in a long list of being out-of-touch.

  126. He stole the show when the Nexus first invaded.

"YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAN ME....(points at Cena)....YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAN ME."

We could only wish the Intercontinental title means something again. Bryan could legitimize it provided management books quality defenses and keeps the belt on him a while.

He better be watching the episode where he kills off his toys, that was a neat swerve.

  129. Ambrose was on the cusp of being the most over guy in a long time when he was chasing Rollins. Now he's just another guy. Had his push matched the responses he was getting I could have quite easily seen Ambrose in the main event at Mania against Lesnar

Why does it seem Vince has the maturity level of a 8 year old pervert?

  132. Well, to be fair, Sapphire pinned Sherri, so Macho's heat is intact.

But you're right, Macho was getting crushed by Hogan throughout most of 1989.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I think he's headed to NJPW.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Hogan hanging around immediately after Warrior won took some of the spotlight from Warrior (out of the gate). Plus any top heel (that was left) wasn't featured against him.

Yes Reigns has the same problem, but like you said, Warrior was more over.

Can we just be happy with the fact that if Bryan wins at Mania, he then can say he's held every title and is also considered a new triple crown winner?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Agreed. But no one is getting over in this "era of midcard booking". Reigns has always been the guy, and they're killing everyone instead of elevating him.

  138. I'm not sure I buy that, because they hired him back quickly afterward. If they were really annoyed with him, they could've just left him in ROH or PWG wherever else he was.

  140. b/c they've only sold 60,000 tix for mania? or only have 1 million subscribers to their own network. I think "disastrous" is quite the exaggeration.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Or can we be smartasses and just say that, like a horse, his heat was taken to the back and shot like previous triple crown winners?

    ReplyDelete
  142. I'm perfectly fine with where WWE is headed currently. We wanted a youth movement. We wanted new stars. We are getting just that. Reigns as WWE Champion, Bryan is IC Champion, Cena is US Champion defending the title against up and comers and getting them over, Kidd/Cesaro are Tag Champs. Rollins is the MITB briefcase holder. Bray is getting a WrestleMania match against the Undertaker which is a huge deal win or loss. Ambrose is still over. Ziggler is still over. Barrett is a great heel.

I just wish they'd get a little bit better of stories surrounding the in-ring stuff, which has been excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  144. They needed a big surprise for Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Man to even be asking if they needed a back up plan means it must have been a hell of a fight with Brock. So I guess we should assume it was Brock being insulted about getting low balled and not that brock is passionate to stay and wants a good deal right?

    ReplyDelete
  146. He choked out Justin Roberts with his own tie and one of the advertisers got pissed off so they canned him then brought him back.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Have The Miz be the Nexus' bigger picture. Have the entire concept of NXT be Miz's "Ultimate Reality Show" where the rest of the roster rallied alongside him when Bryan was insubordinate.

That's where this should've been going all along. Also, Maryse should've been his valet, and not DiBiase's.

    ReplyDelete
  148. My god man, you've just swapped one variety of kool-aid for another! :)

  149. Punk did not hold any titles, nor was he really booked for anything.

    ReplyDelete
  150. He is manipulating the fans into turning the channel and quitting the network when it isn't offered for free.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Having a youth movement is fine, but that movement isn't poised to carry things into the next years.

All of those people you mentioned should be much more popular than they are now, carrying gates and selling out places. The booking is keeping them from being interesting. Holding secondary titles means you're jobbing to less over acts.

Don't look at who they have - look at WHAT they're doing with them.

Yeah, I remember, but he was taken off TV with the express notion that he would be brought back soon. I thought it was basically confirmed that he was "fired" not fired.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Theberzerker, #HUSSAPPROVEDMarch 2, 2015 at 8:42 AM

I would be, but yet another PPV loss for Ambrose would just kill him even further. They book him like a joke, yet he's still over, but if he loses all the way up until May then forget it. A win at WrestleMania would reset things for him, I think. I hope.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Carrying gates and selling out places doesn't affect me personally. Sure, it would be nice if the company were making a ton of money and such, but it's not like I'm investing any of my money into the product outside of the occasional $9.99 for a PPV and full library, which is well worth it.

  160. Yea, he was fired but not FIRED. I think they told him to not sign with TNA or any other company that would tie him down

  161. I'm inclined to think that he actually is an 8-year-old pervert in a 69-year-old body.

His conversations with Russo about Sable/White Cotton Panties, as well as his insistence to have a Steak Burrito with ketchup every day for lunch...

    Yep, that's an 8-year-old.

  163. Watched the Dark Knight trilogy as a whole for the first time ever last night and my main criticism of the films is Batman's fighting style. It's all clunky elbows and fists and Chrstian Bale is just really, really slow. Hopefully this is something they correct in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Well the interesting thing I guess is that the date he gave as a cutoff coincides with the next NXT tapings from what I read.

    ReplyDelete
  165. SportsNet has just been talking about trade deadlines past the entire time since they have nothing to talk about

    ReplyDelete
  166. I'm all for guys making as much money as as someone is willing to pay them but I'm surprised Brock would get so upset. I mean I would think for him at this point it would be I want this... or I go home. How much money does that guy need based on everything we know about his life style? working on your farm..growing a beard and laying on Sable doesn't seem to need a ton of disposable income.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Theberzerker, #HUSSAPPROVEDMarch 2, 2015 at 8:44 AM

What good is that youth movement if it's just constantly booked against Big Show & Kane?

    ReplyDelete
  168. Hell, get Christopher Daniels to fly out there...let's see another 3-Way with AJ.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Brock also knows he has a limited shelf life to make this money.

If anything I think he'd come in as a trainer. He'd get a couple matches maybe a la Rhyno but he'd end up behind the scenes more than likely. No way Vince and Dunn would use him correctly on RAW at all, and no way is he dumb enough to think they would.

  181. I'm not talking about the upcoming Wrestlemania event. I'm talking about the past results like Rumble ('14/'15) and Fast Lane.
