  1. I watched Whiplash and Birdman this weekend. Whiplash was good and JK Simmons was great in it. Birdman was super boring and the typical Hollywood "aren't we great" picture.

    ReplyDelete
  2. With all the talks about Perro, I think it says a lot about WWE that I can't think of any wrestler who ever died in a WWE ring (I wouldn't count Owen Hart because his death wasn't wrestling related, it was stupid stunt related). Outside of Droz in 1999, I can't think of a WWE wrestler who sustained a disabling injury or death because of a botched move in the last 15 years.

Sure, several went down because of long-term wear-and-tear problems (like Edge), but nobody has been paralyzed or killed in a WWE ring for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Lol, being Facebook friends I saw this there as well!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I like Birdman, but I will give you that it 100% won all those awards because Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood.
Look at the last four Best Picture Oscar winners: The Artist, Argo, 12 Years a Slave, and Birdman. 3 of the 4 are "Isn't show business fascinating?" winners, while the fourth is "Aren't we so great because we're making movies about RACE PROBLEMS?"

    ReplyDelete
  5. I've been watching some Japanese matches lately. Do these motherfuckers really have to call every regular vertical suplex a "BRAINBUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Go State!!! Nova is out of the bracket, now pull this upset off

    ReplyDelete
  7. I don't think 12 Years won because of race problems.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes, because it's awesome that they show passion and enthusiasm for what they're announcing.

Whereas here, the motherfuckers are just having fun, Maggle.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I really liked Birdman, but I kinda don't wanna see it again, because I fear it won't hold up when there are no surprises left.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Isn't that amazing? Even throwing it back open to all of wrestling, I'm shocked there haven't been more deaths/injuries between all the poorly trained and/or drugged up jackasses that have been in the ring

    ReplyDelete
  11. Meh, I think it's obnoxious

    ReplyDelete
  12. well crash definitely won because of the race issue

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think you're obnoxious!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I didn't like Birdman much overall but I actually really liked Norton and Keaton in it, just didn't care for the story at all. Could care less about the long take either. Still need to see whiplash

    ReplyDelete
  15. don't forget about all the stupid stunts they do (falling off cages; falling off ladders, hitting the head with steel chairs while being handcuffed)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I finally watched the Wrestling Isn't Wrestling video. Great stuff and I was shocked to see the blog featured.

    ReplyDelete
  17. only guy I can think of who was seriously injured on a botched move was 20 years ago with that jobber vs marty jannety

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm not saying it's the exclusive reason because it was a great film (and probably was the best film of that year), but the Academy got slammed that year with all kinds of accusations that it isn't diverse enough. What better way to prove them wrong?

Same way Selma wasn't going to lose the Best Song Oscar this year. The Academy got slammed for not nominating it for more Oscars, so it got thrown a bone.

We're going to see this continue in the future. An "Important Movie about ____" (race, gender, sexuality, etc.) will be "snubbed" by the Oscars, people will complain, and that Important Movie will end up winning something just because the members will vote so they don't feel bad about themselves for not celebrating that Important Movie.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Was Koko B. Ware in Birdman?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I watched Birdman, cause I'm a Michael Keaton mark. It was fine, I'll likely never watch it again. I've noticed, one thing that makes Keaton great for me, is the little facial tics that he does, and just his overall presence. Makes him stand out. I'll agree, the film seemed rather pretentious.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I sort of felt like Norton and Keaton played themselves in a way. "gee Norton is a douche in real life and he is a douche in the movie."
I really wanted the title to be Batman instead of Birdman because all I could think of was whenever they said Birdman, I was thinking Batman

    ReplyDelete
  22. Cena vs Orton,one more timeMarch 22, 2015 at 10:25 AM

    Err ummmm....yeah

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX_2Nxlt4As

    ReplyDelete
  23. I had to wonder if that was a dig at his Batman roles during the 90's.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I liked that video but man, that kid who made it seriously needs a bunch of carcinogenic rights hands to the face.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And I wonder how much of that could be blamed on the jobber not taking the move properly due to inexperience. I'm no expert, so I can't say.

    ReplyDelete
  26. everything is awesome was robbed for best song

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would open it to all of wrestling, but the serious injury rate seems a lot higher outside of WWE. Hell, look at how many guys AJ Styles has hurt with the Styles Clash over last year. WWE wouldn't let him use that maneuver.

    ReplyDelete
  28. HHH Pedigree on Marty Garner comes to mind as well. Should've broke his neck.

    ReplyDelete
  29. also they could have easily had the gay movie win instead of the race movie. Also, the gay movie was directed by an asian (who won best director).

    ReplyDelete
  30. I really loved Whiplash a lot. Some great tense scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  31. There was a line when the main character said "I havent played birdman since 1992." that was the last year he played batman

    ReplyDelete
  32. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLnGnD92W68
    That guy should be dead.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Keaton wouldn't have got the gig without having that same background.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Lukewarm" MrJustinBMarch 22, 2015 at 10:30 AM

    Nope. Just Frankie.

    ReplyDelete
  35. And I think he was slated to be in Batman Forever, but had disagreements with the script or something, so Val Kilmer came in instead.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm curious if he is that way because he is the son of a famous hollywood guy

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, I don't know if Hunter fucked up, or if Garner thought he was going for a power bomb variant and over compensated.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Brokeback Mountain? Yeah, 2006 was definitely a big "issue year". Just look at the Best Picture nominees:
    Crash: All about race
Brokeback Mountain: About a homosexual relationship
    Capote: About a homosexual author
Good Night and Good Luck: About bringing down McCarthyism
    Munich: About Israeli hostages

    ReplyDelete
  39. Garner fucked it up, if I recall correctly. He thought it was like a piledriver for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Haha, turned on my TV to see the end of the Friends where Monica and Rachel switch back to their old apartment when Joey and Chandler are gone then bribe them to keep it

"As a thank you, Rachel and I will kiss for one minute."
    o_O
*cut to the boys going back into the apartment and straight to their rooms*
    "That was one good minute!"
    "So worth it!"
    "Goodnight!"
    *bedroom doors slam*

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah he didn't lke the softer tone it was taking and was pretty much over playing Batman by that point anyway

    ReplyDelete
  42. A regular vertical suplex is called a Brainbuster in Japan. And what you know as a Brainbuster is called a Brainbuster DDT in Japan.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Also, Bat nipples dude.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like Forever and hated Returns, so I was OK with it

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Lukewarm" MrJustinBMarch 22, 2015 at 10:39 AM

    ... Seriously? I didn't know that. Huh.

    ReplyDelete
  46. My favorite role of his, and his as well, is still Beetlejuice. The Dream Team was pretty good as well, but Christopher Lloyd and Peter Boyle were also good in that. I still need to watch Night Shift and Johnny Dangerously.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Watching Extreme Rules 2009 and the IC title match between Mysterio and Jericho is wonderful while the rest of the card is pretty lacklustre. Though the main event of Edge vs. Jeff Hardy in a ladder match is one hell of a car wreck, enjoyable for spots but it barely resembles much of coherent match.

    ReplyDelete
  48. "That’s so funny to think if you’d just done that right after the last contest, no one would have had to move at all."

    ReplyDelete
  49. Forever wasn't terrible, although Tommy Lee Jones tried to hard to be Joker I think. Returns was god awful though.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Mysterio vs. Jericho was a pretty underrated feud. The matches were terrific.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Would you rather be known as for one role that would be remembered forever but you would be typecast forever (think Batman, Gilligan, a Brady Bunch person) OR be a struggling actor and would never be well-known (basically the "I know that guy" actor)?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Was that the one where Jericho rips off Rey's mask during the 619 as the finish, or was that their Bash rematch?

    ReplyDelete
  53. then in #4, it was batcrotch and batbutt shots

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think that iconic role. At least you can milk it like Adam West does, who seems like a pretty happy guy, all things considered.

Whereas the struggling actor never tastes a little fame and that's debilitating to their self-worth. I've worked at a talent agency for actors before and man, they are a very, very sensitive lot.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I liked returns. Devito was awesome as the Penguin and Catwoman was decent

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'd like to be that 'character' actor.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Typecast or not, to forever be known as a cultural icon of your day, would be pretty sweet. Also, all the gash he and Burt Ward had to fight off apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Huh...that's odd.

    ReplyDelete
  59. so has George Takei; I can't think of one role beyond star trek but he is on everyone's FB page

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah Jericho rips his mask off. Also Jericho cuts a fantastic promo before the match starting from the concession stands and walks through the crowd and into the ring while interrupting himself to yell at people to not touch him.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Easily iconic role. Most people who get into the business are forgotten and never known. To be in a film that brings a lot of people joy, even if it's the only thing I'm remembered for, I think that would be an amazing accomplishment.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Totally. I mean, Adam West is BATMAN whereas the struggling actor might have had a couple of walk-on parts on 80s sitcoms with a line here and there.

    ReplyDelete
  63. DONT TOUCH ME I WILL KNOCK YOU OUT JUNIOR

    ReplyDelete
  64. Forever wasn't too bad. Val Kilmer made a good Bruce Wayne but a meh Batman

    ReplyDelete
  65. "Yeah let's just pretend that's not true."

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think that's different from the I Know That Guy actor, though.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Triple H gave his approval of the Wrestling Isn't Wrestling video on Twitter

    ReplyDelete
  68. One iconic role gives you a lifetime of comic con appearances and money selling headshots and making appearances. Or small, token appearances on nerd shows like Big Bang Theory for easy money.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh, I'd be quite happy to make a lot of money playing one role and then turning into a parody of myself for the rest of my life.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Lol I love that he was the Super serious Jericho with the large vocabulary of words, very Nick Bockwinkel-ish, yet retained enough of his Y2J persona, to call someone "junior".

    ReplyDelete
  71. Virginia is a Duke rival and Michigan St is my ex-gf's school. Is there a way both teams can lose this game?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have some friends in the industry (mostly behind the scenes) and they struggle for years and decades just to get a minor thing (even backstage).

    ReplyDelete
  73. Eric Bischoff might've called it a jumping front face driver or something

    ReplyDelete
  74. Thought it was an okay show. 09 wasn't as terrible as I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  75. A friend and I had a discussion that Kilmer made the best Batman, while Keaton was the best Bruce Wayne. This was pre Nolan/Bale trilogy.

    ReplyDelete
  76. great story in jericho's book about how Vince nixed the finish because he didn't think it could be done

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah, maybe .05% of people who get into the business get to be a major actor in the limelight. It's a tough business to break out in.

    ReplyDelete
  78. If someone took the time to make what is basically a tribute to a character I played for decades, I'd approve too.

    ReplyDelete
  79. definitely Adam West; he didn't need all that rubber; it was all him

    ReplyDelete
  80. Just read the Blue Pants interview on WWE.com, her saying HHH was in laughing tears from the Blue Pants chants was pretty great.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yeah but he's awesome

    ReplyDelete
  82. Character actors are definitely "Hey It's That Guy!": actors. You know them just enough to recognize them and are always popping up as unique characters in random shows and movies.

    ReplyDelete
  83. And why doesn't Batman dance anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  84. or you could be like Virgil and be extremely lonely

    ReplyDelete
  85. So, is Cole a giant Takei fan boy then?

    ReplyDelete
  86. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv8Ay5exYEk

    ReplyDelete
  87. And he's happy that he found a character and gimmick that connected with the fans. Of course, it might not translate like that on the main roster. But in the meantime, enjot the chants.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Love that they angled the shots when he spoke.

"Don't worry, Superman. Your secret identity is safe with me".

    ReplyDelete
  89. It all depends on how you handle yourself with that success. I met Virgil at WizardWorld once (he was together with Ted Dibiase, the REAL reason I wanted a picture with them). He was a constant, nagging salesman rather than just talking to me like a human being.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Of course the best Batman/Bruce Wayne will always be Kevin Conroy

    ReplyDelete
  91. Yeah, Fire Pro Returns on PS2 taught me that. Very confusing at first,

    ReplyDelete
  92. Look out Big E! BAYLEY'S GONNA HUG YOU!

    http://youtu.be/dSc2e1TSCxw

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think there's tiers to character actors, though. JK Simmons and Phillip Seymour Hoffman were/are character actors. Never really the lead but always solid supporting players.

But then there's the next level of character actors where you might not know their names but they're always in various shows and films. They work steadily and do well.

The lowest end of supporting actors are those guys I mentioned. Maybe the guy Rachel spills soup on or teaches Denise at Hillman or Tony Miceli chases away from Angela. You recognize them but they don't show up constantly. Those are the strugglers.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Speaking of BBT - When Jim Parsons hosted SNL, I saw Sheldon Cooper hosting SNL. I can see that typecasting happening to him. Look what happened to Jason Alexander. How can the guy move on after playing such a memorable and quotable character?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I hope he is truly a fan of the NWA style of wrestling and booking. I hope if/when Vince dies, he takes over and the overall product is like NXT. I hope.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Is it weird that when I think Jason Alexander, I think Duckman first before Seinfeld?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I think he's actually a talented actor. He was great in that AIDS movie on HBO with Ruffalo and does some Broadway work.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yet he's more gayer than Takei

    ReplyDelete
  99. She can hug me anytime.

    ReplyDelete
  100. He was quite good in that HBO movie with Mark Ruffalo. I think he'll have some chances to break out if he wants, but his Intel ads play off that persona, so maybe he's perfectly happy with it. He went from no one to one of the highest paid guys on TV with a house full of Emmys, so that's pretty good ascension right there.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Despite all the plugs during RAW in the mid 90s, I forgot about Duckman. That was great stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Takei would tell him "dial it back a notch or two, ya queer".

    ReplyDelete
  103. Give me the big role and the residuals. After that I'll move to New York and do stage/the occasional cameo in film and TV.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I think of him trying to rape Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman

    ReplyDelete
  105. Goddamn, Dwight Schrute is one of my favorite tv characters of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  106. That's the second mention of that HBO movie. Going to have to track it down and check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Did you hear this week he wanted to play the Riddler in a Batman movie? Hmmm...

    ReplyDelete
  108. "How do you sleep at night?"

"On top of a pile of money, with many beautiful ladies".

    ReplyDelete
  109. I get the feeling this'll be no different than Emma. Fantastic wrestler with a funny quirk that happens to gradually get over with the fans. Sent up to the main roster and booked like a total idiot and missing the whole point of that quirk.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I can see it, that's actually not a bad idea.

    ReplyDelete
  111. "What the hell are YOU staring at?!"

    ReplyDelete
  112. SERENITY NOW!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Agreed. I could see it, too. It's not like Nygma has to be ripped to the gills or really handsome or even overly evil. He's a nerd who likes puzzles.

    ReplyDelete
  114. IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY.

    ReplyDelete
  115. If it was similar in line to the Animated Series Riddler, that would work rather well, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  116. There was a great film on Netflix about "that guy" actors (no actresses) and talked about how they barely get recognized and if they do, fans will call them out by their character (like Lassiter on Psych).

    ReplyDelete
  117. Female Santino 2.0.

    ReplyDelete
  118. QUESTION: Why is Dwight awesome?
QUESTION: Why is he your favorite character?
QUESTION: What is your favorite Dwight moment?

    ReplyDelete
  119. *sob* And I liked Emma, too. :( Any potential washed away in her first appearance.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Jason Alexander gets some steady work and he has been on broadway a bit

    ReplyDelete
  121. Of course they felt the need to immediately connect Emma with Santino. Because, comedy!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Blue Pants is more of a funny jobber character than Emma, who's supposed to be a goofball that's meant to be taken seriously in the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  123. "MCMAHON IS BACK!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  124. I did feel a little bad bad when I heard about William Atherton being called dickless all the time on the street post-Ghostbusters. Of all the things to be called lol.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Probably the one role. Especially when people have seen you in other great movies and know you're an amazing actor to begin with

    ReplyDelete
  126. I just saw Emma on NXT a couple of weeks ago, where she was saying how now she's back in NXT, and "hey, that's great!" but showing resentment to that. So it seems there's a lot more to her than being lady Santino. Stupid writers.

    ReplyDelete
  127. My last day as 28. Gonna be lazy as fuck.

    ReplyDelete
  128. *shrug* Hey, almost everyone started out as a jobber. She's just getting started. Who knows? Maybe in a few years, she'll be a Diva champion.

    ReplyDelete
  129. ESPN changed their headline from "former WWE wrestler" to "Rey Mysterio Jr.". They must have caught hell for that one.

    ReplyDelete
  130. 09 SmackDown: Great. Well, until Vince started paying more attention to it after SummerSlam
    09 Raw: AWFUL

    ReplyDelete
  131. Well, they weren't wrong...

    ReplyDelete
  132. She does a goofy dance. To Dunn, and the main show that = RETARD!

    ReplyDelete
  133. That's the spirit!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Technically, no they were not, but it's about what was implied

    ReplyDelete
  135. they could have mentioned former WCW guy

    ReplyDelete
  136. At least they specifically said former. Haven't a few news outlets not used "former"?

    ReplyDelete
  137. I'm sure everyone's sick of talking about it, but I just wanted to observe that it's virtually impossible to go on YouTube right now and not see dozens of different Aguayo clips, with a sad number of them titled "Rey Mysterio 619 Kills Perro Aguayo" or similar. I held out seeing it as long as I could but footage actually played on two different news channels last night.

    ReplyDelete
  138. My question is why is wrestling sports when someone dies? They don't post the results of matches so why is this news to them?

    ReplyDelete
  139. I haven't seen any that have but I've heard that a few didn't say it.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I can't watch footage of people dying, it's too eerie. Only time I have was when Tony Stewart struck that kid, and even then, he wasn't dead at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I think for every actor/actress that wants to be the face of Hollywood, there are more that are content playing different characters in different movies/shows and earn a good living without the pub. Some people prefer to fly under the radar.

    ReplyDelete
  142. or when a big athlete is on there (LT, Tyson, floyd)

    ReplyDelete
  143. CNN's site yesterday listed Rey as "WWEer" in their headline.

    ReplyDelete
  144. They are considered athletes.

    ReplyDelete
  145. And, also be batshit crazy, if you believe what's been told about him.

But, you have to be a little crazy to play the roles he's done in Gangs of New York and There Will be Blood.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Best actor of this generation?

    ReplyDelete
  147. only when someone dies or gets caught in a drug bust.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Yes. You're a creep.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I think the older, established actors have that luxury. If he were just jumping in this he would have to be in the muck with everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Not sure who else is in the running. Christian Bale maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Nobody noticed Rey didn't touch him with the 619?

    ReplyDelete
  152. My pick - an ancient one - James Stewart. The variety of different roles he played. Worked with Hollywood's best over a span of decades. And the guy never made trouble for himself and was pretty much beloved. His was a great career.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogMarch 22, 2015 at 11:12 AM

My only issue with NXT. Do they HAVE to use "Universe" instead of "fans"? Leave that shit on Raw

    ReplyDelete
  154. Leonardo Dicaprio would be a close second for me

    ReplyDelete
  155. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogMarch 22, 2015 at 11:13 AM

Hulk Hogan saying the NXT gold would look good around his waist. bwahahahahaha.

Kevin Owens stomping the fuck out of Hogan in a "Wrestlemania Moment" though? I'm good with that

    ReplyDelete
  156. The guy that played Pinky on "Next Friday" has had a good career. He's firmly in that "hey that's that guy" camp but he seems to always be working.

    ReplyDelete
  157. loved jimmy stewart; one of my favorite movies is mr smith goes to washington

    ReplyDelete
  158. It's really criminal that he hasn't been given his due by the Academy. I used to loathe him after Titanic, but goddamn, he's made me turn my opinion around so much.

    ReplyDelete
  159. brand synergy, brother

    ReplyDelete
  160. i think it's more like a solar system

    ReplyDelete
  161. I need to catch up on the ones he did with Hitchcock. And the westerns.

    ReplyDelete
  162. And even then, only in a way that can be tied to WWE.

Didn't some other wrestler in Northern California die this weekend? Where's ESPN's coverage of that?

    ReplyDelete
  163. He's pretty awesome. I would give it to him just for that scene in Wolf where he's paralyzed and crawling around.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Leo. I want to bang models for life.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Cary Grant is a favorite of mine. North by Northwest is pretty much my favorite Hitchcock film ever.

    ReplyDelete
  166. rear window and the man who knew too much are awesome; not a fan of vertigo

    ReplyDelete
  167. He cites Nick Bockwinkle as an influence in forming that gimmick

    ReplyDelete
  168. They should redo the power bomb Owens gave Zayn after he won the belt but have Owens do it to Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Where's wxynmcneal to tell you all you're wrong and just looking for something to rage about?

    ReplyDelete
  170. Exactly. I don't know who trolled ESPN to get them to change it but I'm glad they did. If there was balance in the coverage I wouldn't mind but anytime you see wrestling on there it's to bury it.

    ReplyDelete
  171. That would unquestionably kill Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  172. You know who was an awesome old-school actor? Gregory Peck. His Atticus Finch is like Clark Kent/Superman.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogMarch 22, 2015 at 11:16 AM

One death in the ring is enough for a while. I'm not kidding either. Hogan's body might not be able to take that one

    ReplyDelete
  174. Just watched The Guns of Navarone last night.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogMarch 22, 2015 at 11:16 AM

He would have been tremendous as Clark

    ReplyDelete
  176. The fucking departed man. Went there in spite of Leo, came out loving him (no homo).

    ReplyDelete
  177. Vertigo I think takes repeated viewings. I'm sure I missed some stuff the first time I watched it.

    ReplyDelete
  178. and the internet is not prepared for the death of Hulk Hogan. Let's put that off for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Love the Simpsons parody of Rear Window with Bart Of Darkness. "Grace, come here, there's a sinister looking kid who's making fun of our movie."

    ReplyDelete
  180. He looks like Alex Ross' Clark Kent in Mockingbird.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I am always disappointed when a movie character doesn't live up to my expectations when I read the book but he actually exceeded them.

    ReplyDelete
