Roman, sorry buddy but I don't think you are bringing anybody in.
Watching Mania 22 on the Network, at one point in Trish vs Mickie, close to the end of the match, it cuts to the crowd for a pretty long time. Did something happen there that WWE cut out?
I think they also edited out Trish's botched Stratusfaction
It's amazing how rabid the crowd was for Mickie. One of the best angles ever, and not just b/c it involved two attractive women (though of course it helped)
I honestly thought it was going to result in Trish turning heel on Mickie, b/c they did such a good job of building Mickie as the misunderstood fragile one that Trish was losing patience with
I read he had his first amateur fight in his training camp against a 4-0 prospect with an amateur wresting pedigree. He went three rounds but would have list the decision.
Not a good sign. I can see them going the Kimbo Slice route and throwing him in there with tomato cans to puff up the record before feeding him to the killers in a money match.
So the Mesa gunman was cuffed and stuffed after shooting 6 people, including 1 that died. A pic was released and his face and neck are heavily tatted. On the side of his left eye, there is a '88'. Does anyone know what that means?
12/13/86 Wrestling Challenge just upped. IC champ Randy Savage is in action; The US Express are in tag action; Paul Roma vs. Harley Race; Lanny Poffo vs. Butch Reed; SD Jones vs. Adrian Adonis, with a very interested ringside viewer; Sika is also in the ring on this episode; The Snake Pit has Roddy Piper as a guest; revisiting The Honky Tonk Man going to Jimmy Hart as his new manager; and some intrigue regarding Andre the Giant's reinstatement, and...why was Bobby Heenan there? Two more "weeks" and we're into 1987, and that brings out....NWA World Wide.
Anyone see the post-Convergence Superman costume? Kinda neat. That T-shirt is rad. http://nerdist.com/exclusive-dc-comics-unveils-week-one-of-their-post-convergence-titles/
OK I got a question figure you guys are the only ones that can help. I saw a match 10 years ago between 2 Japanese dude. Don't know the promotion, don't know their names. One guy had short black hair and wore white vinyl-esque pants like Tajiri, but they were white with I think red flames or dragon or whatever. The other guy I think had black trunks and was much bigger. Also Japanese. Dude in white pants had a sweet slingshot people's elbow looking move and most of the match was him doing enzuigiri variations on the bigger guy, trying to cave his skull in.
Does this sound familiar to ANYONE? Can you tell me the names and the match? Thanks.
http://www.wrestlezone.com/editorials/562321-a-four-point-plan-for-wwe I usually disagree with Mark Madden's idiotic opinions, but he's spot on with this one. Except for the "separate Brock Lesnar from Heyman" part. Brock can't talk live. He needs a mouthpiece.
“For a year, I had this vision of me wrestling (former UFC champion) Brock Lesnar in the main event for the WWE Championship. But sometimes, when you don’t get what you want, you end up getting something better — like this ladder match. I think with the guys we have in that match and the excitement we can generate, we have a real chance of stealing the show.”
There was a blurb for Sting's Raw appearance at the end of the Madden article, and it reminded me of how stupid JBl sounded when he called it "the Stinger drop"
I enjoy listening to Cornette's podcast but he needs to cool it with the "kayfabe is dead so that's why business is bad" stuff. The only thing that has changed is the way fans consume it. Everyone still wants to believe what they are watching is real, at least while they are watching it.
And I refuse to beleive even back in the early 80's that people fully believed wrestling. You watch stuff from back then, it's so much more obvious that it's fake than now.
Exactly! People just wanted to believe and went with it. It could be the same way now if they didn't go out of their way to remind everyone it's not real.
He couldn't work out in his final years because he was so badly injured. Also he smoked and drank heavily. That's why he had that big gut near the end. He was in shape in his prime though.
Wrestling has always been popular in the special ed set, but unless that was the entire fanbase then there were loads of people willingly suspending their disbelief.
Everyone knew it was horseshit. The only difference between my uncles and me re: wrestling is I'm the one who was enough of a dork to figure out *how* it's bullshit. I'll assume Cornette is keying on the presentation of wrestling on-screen, but god knows with him.
That's why when it's mentioned about a Reigns' heel turn - can he actually deliver an effective heel promo? If they believe in the guy that much, can't send him for promo classes or something to improve his delivery?
I'm always hesitant to listen to a podcast from an old-timer, because it inevitably descends into an echo chamber of "Well, if things were done like they were done in MY day, the business wouldn't be like it is," failing to realize that the genie is out of the bottle. You can't put it back in.
He's not like that all the time but it's annoying when he does it. He's at his best when talking about the history of mainly the Kentucky/Tennessee area. If you into wrestling history then I would highly recommend those podcasts
Right. Like I love Dolph Lundgren, but the guy could take a dozen years of acting classes but he'll never be Daniel Day-Lewis. But that doesn't he mean he can't be kick-ass and put out good movies in his role.
Ironically 14 year old me was a huge proponent of the HE'S TOO SMALL argument against Rey Mysterio. It was mostly a shitty way of conveying that I didn't think he was believable as champ and his push was forced and shoehorned, but still.
My mom never really commented. She supported my watching and would take me to buy DVDS and such but I don't think she ever said "cool!" Or "why do you watch that crap?" She was a neautral presence.
Never had a problem with this. It's all about how you book the match. If he uses his speed and quickness to wear down bigger guys then it makes since. If he's knocking guys out in 2 minutes then not so much.
To be fair, there's a pretty significant difference between Mysterio and Bryan. Mysterio's billed height/weight: 5'6", 175 lbs. Bryan's: 5'10", 210 lbs.
Feminists are all up in arms over a cover featuring Joker preying on a distraught Batwoman claiming they would never show Batman or Superman being as weak and vulnerable on a cover despite people showing them several examples of the opposite.
I laughed whenever anti-Bryan guys on Facebook complained that Bryan facing Lesnar wasn't believable, but if you told them that Bryan was an inch taller than Eddie, they'd say, "well, Goldberg interfered in the match to help Eddie win."
Technically, Goldberg didn't factor into the ending of the title match, Eddie DDTing Lesnar onto the belt is what did Lesnar in before the Frog Splash.
Has anyone ever built their own fence or had a fence built for them before? I need to out a fence in at my house (wooden) and am wondering what I should plan on spending. I really don't want to have to put it in myself.
I always said it would make sense for Rey Mysterio to be world champ because he was insanely popular, has a legitimate life long story in wrestling, and was a superb enough wrestler that he could make it work. There is literally no-one else that small who could have pulled it off.
Then they just fucking jobbed Mysterio for months until he lost the title anyway.
I've been close to both - Rey at a WCW house show and stood near Bryan at an ROH show. These are obviously estimates, but yeah D Bry is definitely much bigger than Rey.
Boners.
ReplyDeleteBecause it needs repeating:

WHAT!?
ReplyDeleteI remember this casket match not being terrible.
ReplyDeleteFinish him, Brock!
ReplyDeletethis WWE management vs the fans feud is never going to end, is it?
ReplyDeleteIs CM Punk ever going to fight or is this like when Hogan said he was running for president?
ReplyDeleteThis is gold for when Reigns goes Rocky like heel.
ReplyDeleteHe said later in the year
ReplyDeleteHe's gonna have a lot of real anger and ammunition, that's for sure. Kevin Kelly said Rock basically HATED the WWF fanbase until 2000.
ReplyDeleteto his credit he never really showed it. Everyone that met him during that time said he was a nice as could be.
ReplyDeleteWatching Mania 22 on the Network, at one point in Trish vs Mickie, close to the end of the match, it cuts to the crowd for a pretty long time. Did something happen there that WWE cut out?
ReplyDeleteThing is, does Reigns have the verbal ability to turn the anger into promos that will make me want to see him get his ass kicked?
ReplyDeleteHis coaches say he needs a year of training.
ReplyDeleteWhen he starts cutting promos that sound like a teenage girls twitter timeline then you will hate him....wait, he does that now.
ReplyDeleteVaginal claw then Mickie licking her finger
ReplyDeleteAKA The Spot Of The Night.
ReplyDeletethat may be a good sign to know this really isn't for you.
ReplyDeleteAnyone excited about Simmons guesting on Monday? I wonder if Vince will scream in his ear, too
ReplyDeleteI think they also edited out Trish's botched Stratusfaction
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how rabid the crowd was for Mickie. One of the best angles ever, and not just b/c it involved two attractive women (though of course it helped)
JR and Lawler rolling with the crowd was hilarious. "Sounds like the Chicago mental hospital all got day passes!"
ReplyDeleteAh OK, thanks, they show the vaginal claw I believe but not the finger licking.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4g05d_wrestlemania-22-women-s-championshi_news
ReplyDeleteAt 12:45.
So those comments from Reigns, we're being worked right? This is all leading to a Reigns heel turn?
ReplyDeleteMickie was fantastic, and played her character as being just damaged enough to garner sympathy, but crazy/violent enough to be booed by most
ReplyDeletedoes it even matter? the mania main event will still suck. Bryan still won't be main-eventing.
ReplyDeleteI honestly thought it was going to result in Trish turning heel on Mickie, b/c they did such a good job of building Mickie as the misunderstood fragile one that Trish was losing patience with
ReplyDeleteI read he had his first amateur fight in his training camp against a 4-0 prospect with an amateur wresting pedigree. He went three rounds but would have list the decision.
ReplyDeleteAh thanks, on the Network they show Trish backing away holding her crotch a bit and that's it.
ReplyDeleteNot a good sign. I can see them going the Kimbo Slice route and throwing him in there with tomato cans to puff up the record before feeding him to the killers in a money match.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Mickie's last proper TNA run was cut short. She was doing a fine job with her heel turn
ReplyDeletethen at the same time Mickie tries to force herself on Trish sexually, and that's not ok.
ReplyDeleteSo the Mesa gunman was cuffed and stuffed after shooting 6 people, including 1 that died. A pic was released and his face and neck are heavily tatted. On the side of his left eye, there is a '88'. Does anyone know what that means?
ReplyDeleteI wish they'd hurry up and turn Kalisto into a gay hairdresser.
ReplyDeleteI liked when they swapped characters to play mind games

ReplyDeleteI usually disagree with Mark Madden's idiotic opinions, but he's spot on with this one. Except for the "separate Brock Lesnar from Heyman" part. Brock can't talk live. He needs a mouthpiece.
Riley's new serious character is kind of undercut by the dorky backwards hat.
ReplyDelete“For a year, I had this vision of me wrestling (former UFC champion) Brock Lesnar in the main event for the WWE Championship. But sometimes, when you don’t get what you want, you end up getting something better — like this ladder match. I think with the guys we have in that match and the excitement we can generate, we have a real chance of stealing the show.”
ReplyDeletelol
Fortunately Brock has such a presence about him that he doesn't need to talk. And Heyman delivers the goods on every promo.
ReplyDeleteThere was a blurb for Sting's Raw appearance at the end of the Madden article, and it reminded me of how stupid JBl sounded when he called it "the Stinger drop"
ReplyDeleteI enjoy listening to Cornette's podcast but he needs to cool it with the "kayfabe is dead so that's why business is bad" stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that has changed is the way fans consume it. Everyone still wants to believe what they are watching is real, at least while they are watching it.
This'd be the weirdest heel turn if he can ever convince people he's happy with this bullshit
ReplyDeleteMisawa always had this skinny fat look.
ReplyDeleteAnd I refuse to beleive even back in the early 80's that people fully believed wrestling. You watch stuff from back then, it's so much more obvious that it's fake than now.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, Brock is pretty gold when he talks in video packages. But WWE insists on this 20 minute promo shit for every performer.
ReplyDeleteWhat's funny is that there's no way Reigns can hold his own in a 20 minute promo either.
Exactly! People just wanted to believe and went with it. It could be the same way now if they didn't go out of their way to remind everyone it's not real.
ReplyDeleteHe couldn't work out in his final years because he was so badly injured. Also he smoked and drank heavily. That's why he had that big gut near the end. He was in shape in his prime though.
ReplyDeleteWrestling has always been popular in the special ed set, but unless that was the entire fanbase then there were loads of people willingly suspending their disbelief.
ReplyDeleteHa, I think Shawn pulled the ol' "Ask your sisters and your mama's how gay Shawn Michaels is!" on the Bret fanboys in the front row.
ReplyDeleteEveryone knew it was horseshit. The only difference between my uncles and me re: wrestling is I'm the one who was enough of a dork to figure out *how* it's bullshit. I'll assume Cornette is keying on the presentation of wrestling on-screen, but god knows with him.
ReplyDeleteCornette is delusional if he honestly thinks that most believed pro wrestling was real in the 1980s.
ReplyDeleteI started watching in 1991, and there were always plenty of non fans around to make sure to let me know it was fake every chance they got.
ReplyDeleteI get the impression he means the death of kayfabe but other than us, who paid any of that stuff much attention?
ReplyDeleteThe Amore/Cassady opening spiel goes on too long. Not even the New Age Outlaws went on that long.
ReplyDeleteWell, you can't teach that.
ReplyDeleteMy loving and caring mom was always a room away to do the honors for my brother and I.
ReplyDeleteThey definitely need to tighten it up, but it's over, so no reason to rock the boat, yet.
ReplyDeleteDo japanese companies still use Budokan Hall for events?
ReplyDeleteThat's why when it's mentioned about a Reigns' heel turn - can he actually deliver an effective heel promo? If they believe in the guy that much, can't send him for promo classes or something to improve his delivery?
ReplyDeleteI think Jaws from james bond has a worse record than Kane.
ReplyDeleteI'm always hesitant to listen to a podcast from an old-timer, because it inevitably descends into an echo chamber of "Well, if things were done like they were done in MY day, the business wouldn't be like it is," failing to realize that the genie is out of the bottle. You can't put it back in.
ReplyDeleteMy granddad was always there for that.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Stranger met Jaws when she was a kid. Her family were travelling to Colorado, and bumped into him at a truck stop in West Texas.
ReplyDeleteShe said he was a nice guy.
All those guys that came home from Europe, Korea, and Vietnam had no idea what a real fight looked like you see. It was a different time.
ReplyDeleteHe's not like that all the time but it's annoying when he does it. He's at his best when talking about the history of mainly the Kentucky/Tennessee area. If you into wrestling history then I would highly recommend those podcasts
ReplyDeleteWhat did he do between Bond movies and Happy Gilmore I wonder? He's pretty funny I guess, I wonder why he didn't get into wrestling.
ReplyDeleteYeah, "Game of Thrones" is going to lose a lot of popularity once its fans realize it's not real.
ReplyDeleteHa, "YOU KILLED VINCE! YOU KILLED VINCE!" chant! Never noticed that before!
ReplyDeleteYeah but he looked awesome jobbing to Bond.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing him in Cannonball Run II.
ReplyDeleteActive WWE or TNA wrestlers who need a heel turn ASAP?
ReplyDeleteAnd he was in this awful Ryan ONeill flick called 'So Fine'. He was the only highlight in that train wreck.
ReplyDeleteCena

ReplyDeleteSome guys have it - some guys don't.

ReplyDeleteI think my router finally kicked the bucket. All the lights on it just blink and it won't connect. Resetting does nothing.
ReplyDeleteThis guy gets it.
ReplyDeleteRight. Like I love Dolph Lundgren, but the guy could take a dozen years of acting classes but he'll never be Daniel Day-Lewis. But that doesn't he mean he can't be kick-ass and put out good movies in his role.

I haven't had any pizza since the Rumble. Something has to change.

ReplyDeleteAt last, our long national nightmare is over.
I had some homemade calzones the other day and they were to die for.
ReplyDelete"The second round." SHUT UP WITH YOUR FAKE SECOND ROUND SHIT
ReplyDeleteYeah, he can have that victory.
ReplyDeleteI always said it would make sense for Rey Mysterio to be world champ because he was insanely popular, has a legitimate life long story in wrestling, and was a superb enough wrestler that he could make it work. There is literally no-one else that small who could have pulled it off.
ReplyDeleteThen they just fucking jobbed Mysterio for months until he lost the title anyway.
and you're going to die with them!
ReplyDeleteI've been close to both - Rey at a WCW house show and stood near Bryan at an ROH show. These are obviously estimates, but yeah D Bry is definitely much bigger than Rey.
ReplyDeleteI'd gladly die for them!
ReplyDeleteNobody is more oppressed than an upper middle class white girl in America.
