Notes from Raw... LIVE!

> Hey Scott--
>
> I attended Monday night's show (seated on the aisle that Reigns came down, so you can rest assured I gave him what for, sir!) and I'm surprised we don't have a rant up yet, but some notes for the BoD from the live experience:
>
> 1. The crowd noise was WAY muted on the broadcast, as we were a hell of a lot hotter than that. But since we were chanting a lot of stuff that doesn't tow company line, I guess that's expected.
>
> 2. Michael Cole being murdered does indeed equal ratings, and it equals amazing crowd pops as well. Brock is now the supreme babyface of the company.
>
> 3. During the commercial break in the Diva's match, there was a mind-numbingly bad rest hold sequence, which the crowd completely turned on, leading to the following classy chants, "You suck Cena", "You suck Bryan", "You suck Uso", "You suck Kidd", and "You suck Punk." Sadly, the crowd didn't know who Paige has ever dated, so no chants were offered her way.
>
> 4. The anti-Cena stuff was deafening. Easily a 80-20 split against him, at least.
>
> 5. In the main event, the crowd literally plowed through chants for the entire NXT roster before going into the wave. Then congratulated itself with a chant of "We are awesome."
>
> 6. And in possibly the best moment of the night, Lillian Garcia is out plugging tickets for RAW's return in August, which prompts the crowd to chant, "We don't live here!"
>
> Cheers!

Paige is dating Sami Zayn as of last scuttlebutt, FYI.

Comments

  1. We Are Awesome is just the worst chant.

High five? Ugh, I hate wrestling fans like this

"We are awesome" is the worst chant ever. Yes, even worse than "What?" or "This is wrestling". Also, count me as one of the people that wasn't offended by the diva chants. Classless? Sure, but it's a wrestling crowd, what do you expect? But to get offended I have to actually give a shit about one of the people in the ring. And besides, that match sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yeah I couldn't figure out if he was selling the shock of the moment, or if that's his usual style. It was unbearable and no way is Cole worse than that.

    ReplyDelete
  5. What if you were chanting for Mike Awesome?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm really on the fence with this stuff. I watched the last hour and it sucked something serious so yeah, dump on that show. On the other hand, the chants were way too personal and mean.

    ReplyDelete
  7. only acceptable at his funeral. Other than that, there was no reason to cheer for him.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Adam "Colorado" CurryMarch 31, 2015 at 4:26 PM

They were doing the "This is awesome" chant 90 seconds in to Bryan/Zigger, at that point they hadn't even really done anything, which makes sense seeing as how it had barely gotten started.

This shit was funny the night after 29. Now it's making ROH crowds look cool.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wait and see what the ratings are post-Mania and with the NCAA championship next Monday, especially if it's Kentucky/Duke.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't think there is any way to put this genie back in the bottle. WWE had a good start by refusing to put them over, but I fear it's here to stay.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Your friend is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Plus baseball is back next Monday too.

  13. Adam "Colorado" CurryMarch 31, 2015 at 4:29 PM

I don't really see what's so mean about "you suck Punk". They're married, I fucking hope he's getting some dome. Now the "I fucked Lita" at ONS, that was mean.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That is what you get when you have a great wrestlemania with actual storyline progression and some great booking, you create something that people want more of, people want to see lesnar as champ again, you've just made him the most interesting, exciting babyface in the sport, now people know we have at least 3 more years of him left, it's easier to get invested in him and his chase back to the title, people want to see Rollins as champ, the guy works hard, is talented and has given us great stuff in ring...and now we get to see main events with that stuff in it. People want to see a bustling and prosperous midcard division, and with two main event guys heading it...they know that WWE has no chance but to give upper card feuds and storylines to service those two midcard belts...which can only serve to bolster the midcard. I'd like to say keep it up WWE, but I've said this way too many times in the past 5 years to think that they have any concept of how to consistent.

Fortunately it's only one night a year.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It was fun at 28 when they rebelled against D-Bry losing in 18 seconds.
It was fun at 29 when they did the Fandango thing and lost their shit for Ziggler.
It was fun at 30 when they changed You Deserve It at Ziggler.

But now it's just lame. WWE knows it's coming and was prepared for it, even encouraging it, so you're not hijacking or rebelling or doing shit. They panned out for the wave!

    ReplyDelete
  17. It has absolutely nothing to do with anything and only done to embarrass her. Actually, anytime Punk is mentioned when she's out there is nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah...why are smark fans mad AT Roman Reigns.

Mad ABOUT his being elevated too quickly? Sure. Mad ABOUT his not having enough great matches or solid promos to be forced into the WMadjectivebutton main event while pushing Daniel Bryan down the card? OK.

But what has Roman Reigns done to deserve your anger? Especially after he LOST at WrestleMania...and then went out and beat up on Kane & Big Show (which, if we have to see Kane & Big Show, it should be someone beating them up, right?)

(I guess I wouldn't have been a "Die Rocky Die" guy either...)

I've seen recent pics of Paige with some bearded due looking all snuggly, but might just be some friend of hers. If she IS dating Sami, then I alternately love him that much more and also I WILL DESTROY HIM.

    ReplyDelete
  20. He busted his ass at Wrestlemania and delivered an amazing main event. Dude also delivered at Fast Lane.

BUT I GAVE HIM WHAT FOR SCOTT KEITH PLEASE PUBLISH MY EMAIL

    ReplyDelete
  21. This reminds me when they ran the Chicago RAW after Punk left and some group sent out a list of chants and certain people to boo.

But oh no, not the Undertaker, he's earned our respect!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The other 3 were dead?

I'd give Byron the benefit of the doubt that he was selling not being prepared to go out there. Plus, he was just standing there by himself on a live show..

    ReplyDelete
  23. Adam "Colorado" CurryMarch 31, 2015 at 4:37 PM

Well, in this case it was because the crowd just didn't want to see the match (and I don't blame them), as noted above everyone got some variation of it.

But the constant Punk chants at AJ are getting REALLY old, I agree there. But maybe WWE should take it as a sign that people don't want to see these chicks go out there and half ass a match and take time from people that the crowd both cares about and can actually work.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why doesn't Stephanie catch any of this? She's the one writing this crap. When she was out the crowd just played along with the show. When she leaves then they want to rebel.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I took it as storyline...you don't want someone going out there, no-selling the chaos and cranking up the charisma to seem like he's out there trying to steal someone's job. You want someone a little understated, confused, lost in the enormity of the moment...to sell what's just happened.

It wouldn't fit the moment to send out a new announce team that was strong and better than the people who were all just murdered by Brock.

    Saxton was the sacrificial lamb.

(I'm not saying the guy is great. Even with all of the NXT announcer musical chairs...and even liking Renee Young in her current role...I don't think they've found the next great announcer yet...which is why we're stuck with Cole, JBL, Booker & Lawler. And, to be honest...the silent segment was better than those guys.)

    ReplyDelete
  26. If the fans want to dump on the match then that's fine. I just don't see why it has to be made personal. Just chant, "this match sucks" or "turn the channel".

    ReplyDelete
  27. Whenever I hear of fans resorting these kinds of chants, I always think it's brought on by this post traumatic stress that's triggered by them never really getting over the shock of finding out wrestling is fake.

I hope someone of higher than me gets a research grant and looks deeper into this.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Why does no one chant "You suck Bella" at Bryan or Cena? Or "You suck Naomi" at Jimmy Uso? Why does the crowd only want to slut-shame the women?
    Oh wait, 'cause they're dicks.

    ReplyDelete
  29. https://youtu.be/QvVoH-X-Kls

You sound like KGB after Mike beat you with the Jack on the turn.

    ReplyDelete
  30. How did Lillian escape YOU SUCK DEAN chants?

    ReplyDelete
  31. On some level, I think even the proudest smarks are still marks. Just my opinion, but I think they're kind of scared to go off-script on Stephanie because she's a powerful figure in their mind. Same reason the crowds seem to think WWE isn't pushing the hell out of Daniel Bryan. They're buying what WWE is selling but thinking they're rebelling.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Trends are started by bold thinkers such as yourself. Give it a go next year!

    ReplyDelete
  33. So, they're having fun? And you have a problem with that?

    ReplyDelete
  34. If you really could get a large government grant to do a study on wrestling, what would you study? I think I'd look into the history of racism and cultural stereotypes in wrestling and produce a documentary about it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. They don't have penises to suck....well....probably not

    ReplyDelete
  36. You can suck on many parts of a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Zayn is now on my shit list

    ReplyDelete
  38. The impact of spudnick monroe on the civil rights movement would be interesting

    ReplyDelete
  39. They don't give a shit about the actual person. They are drunk (spending their own money on the booze WWE provides them) and bored and amusing themselves. And the talent know not to take it personally.

The only people getting uptight about this are those that aren't actually affected.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Did you hear Cornette talk about that on the Austin podcast? I was strangely fascinated by that. Real good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm with you, Curry.

    Wait...what did I just say?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yea id much rather the crowds the night after raw just start being the same as every other non smark city because its getting "lame"

    ReplyDelete
  43. Even if the performers can brush it off, it's not harmless. I think the kind of guy that chants that kind of stuff is the kind of guy who generally has issues with women that can turn out to be dangerous. It's all part of the complex stew that is misogyny and rape culture.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If he accepts the push, then he accepts everything associated with it. Reigns is not an innocent bystander in all this.

    ReplyDelete
  45. How can we assume Bryan, Cena, uao, ect enjoy such activities? We must only chant truth

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's definitely not want, if they're turning down the crowd mikes

    ReplyDelete
  47. But you know what AJ, Brie and Nattie like?

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Love-Matic Grampa!March 31, 2015 at 4:53 PM

I'd be nervous, too. Brock might come back for more blood.

    ReplyDelete
  49. YOU, IN ALL LIKELINESS, ENGAGE IN MARITAL RELATIONS WITH YOUR HUSBAND!

    CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think they turn down the crowd mikes as a precautionary measure in case any of the chants are inappropriate for TV, but they definitely encourage and want that kind of crowd on that night.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Do they, because they actively work against audiences being vocal

    ReplyDelete
  52. It affects my enjoyment of watching the show. It was hard for me to enjoy it while there was an arena full of people trying to get themselves over at the expense of the people we tuned it to see.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The Love-Matic Grampa!March 31, 2015 at 4:56 PM

They should have ended on the Brock destruction and saved the "suspension" announcement for next week. RAW ending with Cole, Booker and JBL all lying dead while Brock continues brutalizing the cameraman would have ensured monster ratings next week.

    ReplyDelete
  54. All women.like winners, obviously

    ReplyDelete
  55. And NOBODY chants "You suck Hunter" at Stephanie.

    ReplyDelete
  56. "You suck Punk" seems a bit worse to me -- it's kinda hostile, and completely uncalled for at a person who is just wrestling a wrestling match. "I fucked Lita" isn't the classiest thing in the world, but it wasn't chanted at her directly, and she was portraying a stereotypical "slutty" character.

    ReplyDelete
  57. or "you write horrible tv"

    ReplyDelete
  58. Are you saying that those behaviors can be reigned in by forcing people to not say what is already on their minds?

Last I checked, the PC era has not lead to a drop in rape or DV.

I prefer out in the open misogynists to closet ones. Makes it easier to avoid them.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If they're like "This is awesome that this match is happening," that's not so bad for it to be early. Kind of like the Hogan-Rock reaction, or the crowd pop that will happen at the opening bell of Mayweather-Pacquiao.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm saying that it's not just harmless "boys will be boys" fun, and that it's a symptom of a larger societal problem.
I took my 13-year-old nephew to a house show recently, and I know that if he'd chanted any of that stuff at the ladies, I'd smack him on his head and tell him to cut that shit out. Then talk to him later about why he did that.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Seriously?

    1) Is he trying? I have no reason to think he's not doing everything he can to make this work.

    2) Is he so bad as to be dangerous? I don't know of anyone who was injured because Roman Reigns was careless or incompetent in the ring.

    3) Is he incapable of reading what he's been asked to read for his promos? I think he's giving his scripts as good of a reading as he's capable of...and he's more coherent and more effective in his promo work than many.

When the anti-Reigns backlash started...it was because people wanted Daniel Bryan instead of Roman Reigns. People were mad at the booking...the creative approach. This got fed by some stupid promo scripts...again, people were mad at the creative team.

He got destroyed by Lesnar. Good booking, people should be happier.
He didn't talk at WM. He didn't talk at postWM Raw. People should be happier.

NOW...it's sounding like people are mad at Roman Reigns. I don't get that at all. And "Reigns is not an innocent bystander in all this." is an unfathomable statement to me.

If he was lazy, if he was Khali-esque in the ring, if he was Gangrel-esque on the mic, if he paralyzed someone...then, I could see people being mad AT him. But he's trying to do what he's asked to do...that's what we've liked Sandow for...what we've liked Ziggler for...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Emailer, fuck off with your chants at the divas. Seriously, I would have been embarrassed to be there when I was 12.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Because the NAW RAW is an outlier show. Outside of not performing in front of a crowd, it's going to happen regardless of what they do...unless you think it possible to write a perfect 3+ hour show.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The Love-Matic Grampa!March 31, 2015 at 5:02 PM

Roman did himself no favors with some of his comments in interviews. Granted, those were probably scripted for him, too.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The Love-Matic Grampa!March 31, 2015 at 5:04 PM

I did think it was funny when she shut down the chants, I'll give her that much. That crowd shut the fuck up and QUICK.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I can see this is a thread to avoid.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Exactly. If you disapprove of the way Reigns has been pushed/booked, you KNOW who's responsible for that. Boo HHH and Steph and chant anti-Reigns things at them. Chant "No more Reigns" or "We want Bryan" or "This show sucks" or whatever. And greet Roman with silence or apathy, fine, but being mad at him makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Everything but the slut-shaming is awesome, because it opposes the wrestlers I don't like on my TV.

    ReplyDelete
  69. So for real area they replacing Cole for good?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Of course the "fans" gonna chant "We don't live here" because they are the same group of people who travel to Wrestlemania in the last few years.

Alot of people who travel and attend those Post WM Raws are from Europe and any of those Northeast or Chicago type towns. They are also usually the same age group 18-30. Ask most of these "fans" they usually will say they started watching wrestling around 98-2001.

When I hear these "fans" resort to these chants it just shows the world how fucking retarded they are. Thats why I so glad Daniel Bryan didnt main event WM this year. Just to piss them off.

But at the same time, these so called "fans" disrepected the man they claim to love D-Bry by insulting him and his wife.

Daniel Bryan and the rest of the guys in the biz really HATES those types. You annoy the wrestlers with those retarded chants.

    ReplyDelete
  71. No. Renee does.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Didn't they break up because he wouldn't tell his mom they were gonna move in together?

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's not an exact science. Some things are not meant to be.

Does John Cena deserve to have his suckiness sung to him? Hell no. He always busts his ass in the ring, and he's been an integral part of almost all of the most amazing matches of the past ten years. But fans have decided that they hate him. Does Cena let that get him down? No. He rolls with it and makes the crowd work for him.

Roman Reigns took an asskicking and hit his basic spots. He still has a long way to go to become as good as Cena...and a longer way after that to making the crowd decide to love him. That's the breaks, little man.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Pretty much the only time I haven't cringed at chants like that is when Mike Bennett got sloppy seconds chant, because his GIMMICK was ripping of CM Punk stuff while dating his ex.

This lacked any context to suggest who they fuck is relevant.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Maybe she doesn't? Maybe she's like Hillary...

    ReplyDelete
  76. You're right, Bryan hates the fans he gave 10 years of his life performing in front off, breaking into tears to leave th indys because he loved what he did so much.

yup, that's a guy who hates dedicated wrestling fans.

    ReplyDelete
  77. He might grow to hate them if they keep disrespecting his wife.

    ReplyDelete
  78. MaffewOfBotchamaniaMarch 31, 2015 at 5:13 PM

    DOWNVOTED TO FUCK

    ReplyDelete
  79. They disrespect Daniel Bryan by saying that he gets head from a beautiful woman?

    ReplyDelete
  80. So that's how she did it! Clever girl.

    ReplyDelete
  81. If people in the streets were chanting "You suck d***" at your wife, would you take that as a compliment?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I was there last night as well. The stuff in the Divas match was pretty cringe-worthy, and I actually gained a ton of respect for those six ladies for still putting on, by all accounts, a pretty darned good match.

Outside of that, the night was a total gas. My personal favorite chant was telling Sheamus he looked stupid, and seeing Rollins blow a gasket at the wave was pretty funny. Also of note in the main event, when the crowd chanted Reigns was worse than Cena, Orton did a very subtle "you can't see me" hand shake, which I thought was a pretty fun comeback.

    ReplyDelete
  83. A couple of years ago Orton was the one getting flustered by the chants. Looks like he learned to deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Good for you. Up to the point of hitting a child on the head. You lost all credibility on the matter with that.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I don't think what the fans did was justifiable, but equating northeast, European, and Bryan fans with some assholes with a chant is beyond stupid.

why did the crowd chant during the commercial specifically? I'm not sure he's not full of shit. I can totally see the guy whose so proud of himself for this hyping a few hundred drunk assholes in his section as being the arena

    ReplyDelete
  86. But the WWE Universe got itself over. Are you too proud to associate yourself with the rest of us in the WWE Universe, pal?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Is that you, Maggle?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Depends on whether we were performing as a bitchy sort of character on the street as part of some sort of public performance at the time.

Do you think that the person portraying the Brie Bella character gets those chants on the streets?

    ReplyDelete
  89. My final word on the RAW chants: it seems that a lot of people cannot tell the difference between fantasy and reality.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Nothing about Brie Bella's character has anything to do with her sex life. If this were Trish Stratus at certain points of her career, or Shaniqua in her dominatrix gear -- performers for him sex and/or freakiness was actually part of their character -- it would make some kind of sense. But the only reasons Brie is getting those chants is because she's a woman, because that portion of the crowd is made up of crass males, and because those males just happen to know who she's married to.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Those chants at the women were dumb. Felt like a 10th grade study hall with the teacher out of the room.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Meh, there's a pretty large contingent of fans her and elsewhere who have insinuated that the Bellas are in their spots because of who their boyfriends are, so the outrage over the chants rings hollow to me.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Smacking an adolescent kid (not a toddler or a baby) on the back of the head is perfectly acceptable where I'm from.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Cheer the heels, boo the faces, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I take it you don't watch Total Divas.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Which is funny, because those same fans claim Daniel Bryan is constantly being buried and is a victim of the people who put wrestlers in their spots.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Okay, we're done here.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I do, actually. Nikki talks about having sex with Cena a lot. Brie and Bryan are pretty modest about it.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I don't boo John Cena. I'm old and life's too short.

But, if I DID boo John Cena...here's why I would.

    1) He's more about merchandise than anything else. It's the tea towels...it screams "Here's more of my stuff you can buy." A hero doesn't do that. You can say "Hustle Loyalty Respect" all you want...but to me, you just want to sell me shit...

    2) He only cares about himself. He may have "Loyalty" in his list of three prime attributes...but he's NEVER helping anyone out, even those who have helped him out. A hero doesn't do that. So, he doesn't live up to what he markets himself as...

    3) As a sports entertainer, the best thing you can do is help the audience continue to keep their suspension of disbelief. Yes, we know it's not real...but let us enjoy the illusion that it is. When Hogan hulked up...it was after he'd been destroyed and you could see it on his face...and after he was done posing, you'd see him blood encrusted and broken. Cena gets beaten for awhile and then pops up like it wasn't anything and then smiles and no sells everything at the end. He's literally ruining everything.

And people, even those who sing "John Cena Sucks", do cheer for him during his matches...they do cheer for him in the ring (except sometimes when he goes into his Five Moves of Doom schtick.)

I think Cena has earned his boos. I think the reluctance to change his character enhances that negative reaction.

And maybe how Reigns has been booked and scripted deserves boos. Now that WMadjectivebutton is over, I don't think he's earned continued hatred. He's not holding anyone down. He's not out there floundering. He hasn't even offered a shit promo.

It's just weird to me when the Number One heel hasn't done anything to deserve that reaction.

(But, like I said...it has Rocky Maivia precedence...and I wasn't paying attention to wrestling at that point. The best thing they did for The Rock was to embrace the hate--but he had a natural charisma that I think we all see is not shared by his cousin...)

    ReplyDelete
  100. "(seated on the aisle that Reigns came down, so you can rest assured I gave him what for, sir!)"

    Just...wow.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Even with Cena, though, do we know it's him that won't change the character? Because I can totally see Vince and whoever else is in power refusing to change Cena's thing because it's their top seller.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It's manufactured at this point. Oh, we're the post Wrestlemania crowd, we have to be snarky.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think it's because of the stuff they were chanting at the divas

    ReplyDelete
  104. I can't find any fault with this logic at all.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I don't mind them having fun, but I like it more when it's organic and not, oh we're the post WM crowd better chant stuff. I mean, We Are Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  106. If they want the divas to be taken seriously, a good starting point might be NOT TO CALL THEM DIVAS.

    ReplyDelete
  107. They might not live here, but damn they bought out tickets to the next RAW in San Jose quick. We were at the box office and couldn't even get seats anywhere on the floor, though they certainly hit Stub Hub awful fast.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Bryan's still a visible star, but regardless Brie is basically an invisible buffer for Nikki while she goes MicHHHelle McTaker on the woman's division even though there are plenty of better women around.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Why would you want to go? Matt seems to hate RAW

    ReplyDelete
  110. That's how he tests their quality, and is also why he can never go back to Pottery Barn.

    ReplyDelete
  111. You're friends with Vince Russo?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Whenever I hear the after-WM crowds hijacking shows, I always think of 6:51 of this clip:

    https://screen.yahoo.com/carsenio-hall-show-000000859.html

    ReplyDelete
  113. I'm not sure the WWE Universe is ready for that much fellatio.

    ReplyDelete
  114. lol, Matt likes RAW when it's a quality show, a lot of times it's not. As a critic (hell as a fan) he's allowed to like or hate the shows as individuals yet like the show overall.

    ReplyDelete
  115. He seems to hate the show overall. So why bother spending your money and sitting through it in person?

    ReplyDelete
  116. It cracks me up that they try to integrate Total Divas into the WWE world as TD is taped way in advance, yet the announcers and some of the fans react as if the story were shown in real time. I also think it's hysterical that "Brie Mode" which is all about getting falling down drunk has come to mean how she fights to the point whre we saw preteen girls wearing it at Axxess.

  117. I like it very much. It's when it gets extraordinarily stupid (like, usually, in the last hour) where I start to lose stuff.

The rest of what I write is in jest. Also, I love seeing the people who complain about me coming back again and again. They read it...even though they complain about it.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Like you going to RAWs?

    ReplyDelete
  119. We were there last night, as well. If stars handle it well, fine. Sheamus being told "YOU LOOK STUPID" was puzzling for a show that features a miniature bull and two LOD rejects who look worse than Sheamus.

I thought it was awesome that Sheamus was like, "Yeah, bring it on, haters..." -- which totally shut everyone up and reduced them to simply booing him. THAT is how you handle the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  120. A lot of people read just about every wrestling-related thread that's posted here. I wouldn't take it as some sort of Skip Bayless-type badge of honor, bud.

    ReplyDelete
  121. As I stated, I like the show. That's why I do it.

That's the difference between you and I. You hate me and you hate what I write. Keep reading, though.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Adding to Matt's reply below, we think the taunts at the Divas and even the wave were really parts that took away from the experience last night. Being at Wrestlemania was amazing, RAW was also really cool as an experience. Even if the Aug 3 San Jose RAW show sucks (and it's not following a PPV so it will be a more regular RAW), you just can't beat the being there experience.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I'd argue that using the word "retarded" in a hateful, derogatory manner is a lot worse than anything those fans chanted.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Agreed that Sheamus handled that really well. I thought the divas handled the chants well, too; they slowed the match to a crawl and waited them out with rest holds.

    ReplyDelete
  125. But, I have reasons to boo Cena the character. Notice that I didn't say anything about Cena's promos and the goofy jokes that are often given to him. A lot of people don't like that about Cena...but, like the stupid Looney Tunes stuff that set a lot of people against Reigns...that's probably what's been scripted and they're charged with trying to make that shit work.

I'm not sure what the reasons for booing Reigns the character are...other than "he's being pushed down our throats and we don't think he's ready". And to me, that's a claim against management...not the man.

As with everything, your mileage may vary. I'm just surprised at the continued vitriol shown against Reigns--when he walked through the crowd, he was getting violently flipped off and screamed at...like he was a puppy murderer (and, like the original poster, who was proud of giving Reigns "what for" as if he's expecting to be praised for doing so.)

    ReplyDelete
  126. I had should add that while he is asserting the legitimacy of the segment, he updated me with "hell yeah! Michael Cole's vertebrae is busted!"

    ReplyDelete
  127. Yea, John Kreese was being retarded.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I don't hate you at all. I just find it puzzling that the guy whose RAW reviews are basically 3 hours of snark ripping apart the show would go: Wait, the show I don't like is coming to my town? Better pony up!

    ReplyDelete
  129. REPEAT: "As I stated, I like the show. That's why I do it."

    But, it's cool.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I would hate to see your thoughts on a show you don't like.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I thought that was a funny and very cheeky comment there. Nothing to be taken aback by, I would think.

Like "Mick," I'm realizing I should run away from this thread out of sheer fear.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Seth Rollins is a draw!

  134. I wanted to see this out of respect for Robin Williams, but didn't want to see something that was supposed to be so terrible. It's why I didn't watch Angriest Man in Brooklyn either

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'll freely admit to joining the John Cena anti song last night as it was kind of fun. As for your point #2 about never helping out anyone though, the man has helped grant 400 Make a Wish requests, making him the top wish granter in the country. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/trending-now/john-cena-grants-400th-request-for--make-a-wish--192554702.html

    ReplyDelete
  136. Yeah, I was hoping that it was a secret gem of sorts. I didn't have high hopes but I like the occasional anti-Christmas Christmas flick. Sadly, that one was just DOA.

    ReplyDelete
  137. The fact that it got such a limited release was a red flag. He still has two more movies coming out, but I felt Night at the Museum was a good sendoff.

  139. ARRRRGH THE BARBARIANMarch 31, 2015 at 6:05 PM

    Did you ask him personally?

    ReplyDelete
  140. I also enjoyed "Sadly, the crowd didn't know who Paige has ever dated, so no chants were offered her way."

Sadly. I mean, they were so close to calling all 6 women cocksucking whores. What an opportunity missed!

This guy sounds like the ultimate shithead.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Don't bother. This is the guy who thinks chanting that kind of bullshit is a necessary part of civil individual discourse.

He's unfathomably stupid and stubborn. Just leave him be.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Kinda hard to claim the moral high ground when you're hitting a minor lol

    ReplyDelete
  143. Could've sworn Paige was dating the guitarist from A Day To a Remember, seeing as how he tweeted a pic of them at the HOF and referred to her as "babe."

    ReplyDelete
  144. Any crowd that chants "We are awesome" is only trying to get themselves over and can fuck right off.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I think the conversation about the chants has sort of run it's course. Just remember if you find yourself getting sucked back in that you're attempting to explain to someone why it's wrong to scream at a female stranger that they're a cocksucking whore.

Either they're kids who will hopefully grow out of that shithead kid phase or they're adults, which is sad, but there's no hope for them. Take solace in the fact that, unlike them, you don't have to pay women to spend time alone with you.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Given that Heyman started that first hour with "Brock Lesnar will compete on Raw for the first time in 12 years," maybe we should rethink this logic that Lesnar isn't a draw.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Paige is dating Zayn?

Well, Total Divas has lied to me AGAIN!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Hey, I like my hookers pal!

I mean, YES, I agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Agree. The first hour and a half of the show was so good I put Better Call Saul on DVR instead of watching live, but the last hour and a half felt like it was on auto-pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  150. If Zayn is really dating Paige - CONGRATS~! You're a good guy Sami you deserve it. Paige is just STUPID HOT~!

    ReplyDelete
  151. Hookers provide a noble service! They have all my respect.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Yeah. The post 29 crowd was a hell of a time, but we have ruined a lot since then. I never liked the "we are awesome" chant though, even while being in the middle of it.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Watch Tropic Thunder. Thats all I have to say on this.

    ReplyDelete
  154. That was actually well played, like something Heyman would have booked in ECW (i.e., the Sandman/Dreamer cigarette incident).

    ReplyDelete
  155. I googled Sami Zayn dating Paige and got nothing. Source on that?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Byron is usually fine on Smackdown and fell right back into form once King joined him.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I would think you'd want him to watch the Karate Kid.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Based on last year's post-WM bump they were expected to do about 5.2 million, so this a big number but not stellar. Next week should see about a half million drop, so if they drop back under 5 million then they'll be on track to fall back under 4 million the first week of May. We'll know pretty quick if Mania earned them any new viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  159. If they drop back under 5 million next week then it's possible the whole bump will be gone by May. That's been the pattern.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Yes, I'm aware of that movie's reference. You aren't a character in that movie. You're just a dickhead.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Reminds me of the dickheads who were pounding on the Usos' car after the Rumble, only for one of them to get out. Said dickheads, of course, instantly shit themselves and took off running.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Where's a gif of Abe Simpson walking in and out of the brothel when you need it?

    ReplyDelete
  163. Brie would be in that position (as a face) if she had any discernibly skills whatsoever. At least Nikki is a good heel.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Orton was AWESOME in New Orleans last year for Raw. I don't know how much got on TV, but in his segments he was milking as much heat as possible from the crowd, playing along with it, gesturing, etc. A 180 from the Sheamus match the previous year.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I watched the App during the breaks, and the chants were indeed loud and noticeable.

    ReplyDelete
  166. It sure wasn't at WM28.

    ReplyDelete
  167. That's debateable. I mean, doing the "loser" L on your forehead makes a good heel?

Shit, Ric Flair's been doing it wrong all along!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I totally thought it had to do with pissing in a sink or something like that. Something really....shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Laughing so hard at this.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Almost everything in wrestling is debatable. I think she cuts good heel promos, cheats in her matches and has more personality than most of the WWE heel divas. Which isn't hard, granted, but she's improved in the character stuff even if her bumping is still slow and awkward.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Name some more of the off-color chants. And the Vaudevilains had better have been part of the NXT roll call, or I riot.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I marked out for his Hulk Smash routine, ESPECIALLY on the announce table. Seriously, him just squashing everyone under the table reminded me of Hulk punching Thor out of nowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Because if anyone in that relationship is sucking, it's Hunter.

    ReplyDelete
  174. You suck Generico is and sounds like a big insult. Think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Paige is dating Kevin Skaff of the band A Day To Remember.

Besides a nice pic of Paige and Zayn sitting on a couch together (OMG~!), there has never been any indication ANYWHERE of those two being an item. At all.

    Another Scott Keith "fact" ;)

    ReplyDelete
  176. So, like Scott?

    ReplyDelete
  177. Thanks, that's all I got. I really wish Scott would source this stuff rather than feeding the internet rumor mill

    ReplyDelete
  178. You're such a shit bloke.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Your dads, uncles, grandpas never popped you all on the head, punched your arm, etc.?

    ReplyDelete
  180. I have to go back and watch it. I don't even remember what he did last year.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Yea, I found it hilarious he spent the whole month shitting on Mania and then suddenly was like: OMG GREAT SHOW. Why even bother watching it?

    ReplyDelete
  182. They weren't doing it while explaining how harmful my language was. It's just like how violence is a-okay to show children, but you better not even mention sex because ICKY! Even slight, innocuous physical violence > words. "Sticks and stones" and all that.

    ReplyDelete
  183. That's disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I mean, I get it. Scott just gushing over how awesome everything is would get extremely boring. And I think most of us became fans due to the snark. I'm similar to that; I bust on a lot of things I love -- movies, TV, video games. Plot holes, bad line deliveries, goofy shit, etc.

And I don't have a problem with that style. But someone posting on SCOTT KEITH'S BLOG is gonna get on a writer for being, well, just like Scott Keith? Ooooookay.

The Clique ruffied him for old times sake.

    ReplyDelete
  186. This is different though. Matt's RAW reviews read like: Here's what I hated about RAW this week, you guys! and yet here he is happily shelling out money to go to these RAWs.

I defended him going to Mania. If Scott was going to RAWs, I'd say the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Isn't that more due to Raw not really getting to Scott's neck of the woods? But I see your point.

    ReplyDelete
