Raw tonight on lesnar and reigns

Scott, is wwe giving up on lesnar vs reigns as the main event to end the show at mania? They haven't even interacted since that studio raw. Reigns after the Tag match just disappeared into the night while orton dominated the last ten minutes of the show. I have never ever seen a main event for any ppv , much less wrestlefrinkingmania get so little coverage...and what was the point of even having lesnar at raw? To just stand there? Why would they even waste an appearance? This is insane even at wwe levels have been. My head hurts.

I have no earthly idea what the point of tonight's show was supposed to be.  Even scarier is that if they actually booked any of the big three matches to have interaction between the guys, they'd likely fuck it up even worse, so we should probably be thankful that no one touches each other or even talks to each other.

  1. Over/under on Taker doing a "run-in" during the Mania main event?

  2. Cena was def. MVP of this show. Right now him n Rusev r the only match i give a shit about for wm so far.

  3. Pittsburgh hadn't been that silent since Bane informed them that one of them controlled the detonator

  4. It's like they're afraid that Roman will fuck up or something simply being in the same ring as Brock. In a studio they could control things but in the ring it's a different story.

Now Roman may be green but he ain't that fucking green!

  5. I know they're only charging $9.99 for Wrestlemania this year but I don't think the show thus far is even worth that.

Almost every guy i care about in the promotion is in the IC clusterfuck that'll get 8 minutes, tops. The other one will drop the title to Reigns in a match that will top out at *** and be more social experiment than wrestling match.

Oh well, maybe next year will be better.

  6. It's like the Cartman "you can't come" strategy, but for wrestling booking.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If you have to protect reigns that much, clearly he isn't ready for prime time

    ReplyDelete
  8. To me the only chance for Lesnar vs Regins to be a great, memorable match is if the beat the hell out of each other NJPW style. And I don't think Regins has the ability or desire to do that type of match, or that that's the type of match WWE wants them to do.

  9. WWE has done this before, where something other than the 'Mania main event gets the runover on Raw: Lesnar-'Taker closed the second-to-last Raw last year, and Punk-Taker (the urn/ashes segment) was the runover on the go-home-Raw two years ago. 'Taker is more high-profile than Orton-Rollins, but I think that's what they were duplicating.

Not saying I agree with the thinking (Bryan was obviously much stronger than Reigns last year, and Cena-Rock II had been built for years, so neither "needed" to main event every show in the 'Mania run-up), but shining a spotlight on various high-profile matches does make some sense, particularly when they sense the main event isn't that hot/sufficient to carry the card on its own. It wouldn't surprise me if Cena (I would have put 'Taker or Sting, but they both had segments tonight) closed either next week or even the go-home (or 'Taker if he actually appears at the show).

Of course, if I sensed my main event was weak (and was still committed to going through with it since I couldn't get a refund on catering), I would spend more time building it up, but that's just me.

  11. He'll just sit in the corner and cry because Lesnar hit him too hard.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes but reigns has barely talked about lesnar, he seems more concerned about the authority

    ReplyDelete
  13. He doesn't need to cut a long promo: just have him march to the ring during Heyman's promo, cock his fist/scream, then have Heyman jump in front of Brock ("my client doesn't fight for free"; can't remember if he used that with Punk or Brock), have Brock do his little smirk. If Reigns has to talk, give him something short and serious: "I told you that you would respect me. At Wrestlemania, I'm going to beat that respect into you and walk out WWE Champion.

They're probably just waiting for the go-home Raw for some sort of physical confrontation, but I wonder how much they'll trust Roman even then.

Has there been any explanation why he doesn't confront Heyman every time he runs his mouth (particularly when Brock is there)? I think he did it one Smackdown. Is he doing Make a Wish like Cena? Playing video games with Titus? Staring into Brie's eyes?

As I mentioned in the other thread, my prevailing theory now is that a couple of weeks ago, everyone with a modicum of sense left in the company just stopped, looked at Vince, blinked hard and said "You know what? Fuck it. Do what you want." and just let him and Bucky Beaver there write everything themselves while they went off to enjoy a normal sleep schedule for the next couple of weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. There should be some explanation for why 'Taker doesn't go after Lesnar, but I don't think they've come up with one (I certainly can't).

Still, as the bookmaker, I'd make "no 'Taker run-in" (I'd include anything, even a gong as a run-in) a heavy favorite, -1000. There's a slight chance they'd do it to set up 'Taker-Lesnar at WM32 if healthy/resigns, but I think they want Roman to go over fairly cleanly/no cluster with Rollins/Ambrose/Bryan/J&J/Show-Kane running in. Plus, Reigns was the one who sent 'Taker away two years ago with a triple powerbomb through a table; I guess 'Taker gesturing to Reigns would be as close as they could do to passing him the Streak.

  16. I think the story of the main event is being centered on the real backstage drama now. The question of how Brock is gonna go out seems to be taking precedence over any effort to build Reigns into a credible future champ. And considering what little he has to work with, Heyman killed it on the mic. Ape the screwjob again, tease the UFC crossover, remind Vince how many times he's given Brock the master key to the WWE universe, only to have him walk out on the company time and again... it's all blurring the line. To me, at least, this is more interesting than the campaign to make Reigns a star. Maybe they're catching on. I wouldn't be surprised if Vince ends up playing an active role in the coming weeks.

  17. I don't think a Lesner will show up.

I think they've given up on Reigns as the face. I think Heyman is going to switch horses midmatch. Where that leaves Rollins, I have no earthly idea.

Apparently, the cheers for Bryan were muted by the production crew, and Lesnar's jeering was piped in.

    Just unbelievably petty all around.

    ReplyDelete
  20. He could cash in, finally. Getting slaughtered the final 10 minutes of RAW could be setting him up as the new underdog. Imagine he scoops Reigns' face push and gets Brock back for the Rumble. Decent swerve.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That was pretty clear from how the entire arena's arms we're going up and down and the noise level wasn't what you'd expect as a result. Probably futzed with shit during the Fast Lane build too.

  24. Cant wait to see the RAW after Mania. Vince might have a 5 hour draft lottery with HLA segments.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I wouldn't be shocked if they have Sting-HHH close the show. It's not like the title match always has to close the show. If they could go back, they would have had Hogan-Rock close 18. Plus, you could have Rollins cash in if Brock-Reigns isn't last and then end the show on Sting winning and The Authority tries to attack afterwards and Taker makes the save and you end the show with Sting and Undertaker in the ring together.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wonder if they'd have Rollins cash in on the Raw after Mania? Probably be a dumb idea since him cashing in on Reigns would get an insane babyface reaction from that particular crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Could be worse, they could pipe in the noise to EVERY match like they used to do on taped WCW shows, so it sounds like the crowd is watching Rock VS Hogan while Jerry Flynn and Brad Armstrong are having a match.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'd take the under....Taker can barely walk, let alone 'run' in

    ReplyDelete
  29. This isn't exactly indicative.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I enjoyed the show so much more when Orton wasn't around.

Someone asked Scott recently if guys have creative control anymore and he said basically no. Will someone then please explain Randy Orton to me? He has failed miserably ever time he's been on top. Yet they keep putting him there. Did anyone ask for that? I don't think so.

Plus he makes the "future" look like a bitch for the last 15 minutes of the show. Rollins has been on fire the last few weeks. Showing the mic skills as well as the in ring stuff. And this is what he gets for it?

Everyone on the roster is booked to look like a chump. Even the Golden Boy Reigns (and they wonder why he's not over) but not Teflon Randy.

Seriously, what the fuck does he have over them? Did he do HHH and Steph in a threeway. Or maybe Vince? Maybe all three? Does he supply Vince and Trips their roids? And Steph too?

The dude clearly writes his own shit. He comes out on top more than Cena. I actually had no problem with this feud. If it was a mid card thing with Randy putting Rollins over. But not in the main event. Not like this. I get Rollins is supposed to be the cowardly heel. But that was just fucking stupid.

You guys can hate Reigns all you want. No, he doesn't deserve to beat Brock. It should be Bryan. But I'll take Reigns over Orton any day.

Terrible show. As someone else said; most of the guys I like are in the pointless ladder match for the Jobberweight Championship.

Also every champion either lost or was made to look like shit except Brock. Champions should win. That's the whole point.

Heyman's promo was nice. Blurred lines and all. But it's all bullshit anyway. More trolling of the fans. It won't mean anything.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The announcers were doing everything to babyface him tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Whatever happens at Wrestlemania I wanted it remembered for all time how shockingly bad the build up was.

Everything is just filler until Reigns has the belt and then we get to see them put even less effort in to everything.

    ReplyDelete
  33. "Greener than turtle shit!"

    ReplyDelete
  34. The show sounds interminable. My apathy towards the WWE product right now means I've barely commented on here the past two weeks. I can only hope that Mania is such a disaster that they change direction, though I'm sure it'll only harden their resolve to fuck the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ah, yes, Reddit. Like Wikipedia, except no one even asks for references.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dude.

Cena called Rollins a coward for holding Edge as ransom to get Cena to put the Authority back in power. Last night, he held Rusev ransom to get Lana to give him his rematch at WM.

Dean Ambrose destroyed Bray's chair in the build to TLC and Bray was devastated. Last night, the chair was back and Bray laughed as it burned.

You're talking about things that happened a year or two ago. This show no longer recalls things that happened less than 6 months ago.

  39. Has there even been a Wrestlemania main event with as much of an underwhelming build as this one?

  40. Wikipedia gets way too much hate. At least 95% of things that are mentioned on there have sources listed to them.

  41. Where was Bane when we needed him last night...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Seth got beat down like he was a babyface. WTF was that?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Orton was fucking awesome last night what exactly was bad?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't think so- he got beat like a heel getting his comeuppance

    ReplyDelete
  45. Creative has decided to go the "quantum physics" route of writing for TV. You may WANT there to be order to events, where one thing logically leads to another, but instead we have a bubbling cauldron of occurrences wherein random events happen, particles disappear and reappear with no rhyme or reason, and the overall sense of chaos causes despair in the hearts of those who study it too long.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That's the tease of Randy Orton. He'll look awesome at the beginning of an angle but when he gets pushed forward, it ends up sucking.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm wondering how casual fans are supposed to see Reigns as a threat when he's jobbing to the likes of Rollins and Big Show mere weeks before his big main event. I mean, how often did Steve Austin job leading up to his match with HBK? Pretty sure ten years ago Cena and Batista were both doing the "restraining order" angles, yet were still beating the snot out of losers like La Resistance and the Bashams to look strong.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hell, remember just before the December In Your House that had HBK/Shamrock in the main event? Say what you will about the main event or Shamrock in general, but they built him up STRONG for that, making him look like a very viable contender.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It all depends on how long his motivation keeps up. Which for Orton, doesn't last long. He starts to get less fucks as time goes on, especially if he's not pushed in the main event.

    ReplyDelete
  50. In that case, WTF is he getting his comeuppance on free TV before WrestleMania?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think that was one of those deals where we all knew Shawn was winning, but we were just going to bask in the glory of Ken kicking the shit out of him for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You can say the same about Sting - HHH and Wyatt - Taker like Scott said. Rusev vs Cena I think is the best build up and it's a rematch from a mere few weeks ago.

I wish Taker didn't respond and the build was Wyatt just mocking him for being dead/washed up etc. I wish we had no clue that he was coming back and then after a few minutes of Wyatt waiting for him and gloating in the ring at Mania, the lights go out and DONG.

    ReplyDelete
  53. You know, WWE could do a hell of a lot better at promoting WrestleMania as a must-see because it features guys who DON'T wrestle on free TV instead of making it seem like those guys couldn't be bothered to show up.

But that's probably problem #34 on their list of top 100 problems.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT MAKING ROMAN REIGNS LOOK LIKE A BITCH AIN'T ONE, BELIEVE DAT!

    ReplyDelete
  55. They couldn't even get Reigns to have a stare-down with Lesnar in the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  56. They're probably saving that for the go-home RAW on the 23rd.

    ReplyDelete
  57. It really is looking like Sting/HHH will close the show more and more.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Listen to the announcers. They were practically doing Owen Voice. I'm not sure what tone that segment was going for, because logically, it was a face turn for Orton, but presentation-wise, they were saying all these pro-face things to justify Orton's actions, but doing it in this very understated manner that almost made it sound like they understood why Randy was attacking him, but they didn't agree with it. It was bizarre.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Sid and Undertaker is about the only one that comes close.

    ReplyDelete
  60. They're kind of screwed, because Reigns winning will get no real reaction, Rollins cashing in post-match risks getting a face pop, Taker winning is nowhere near a surefire face PPP since most people expect he will and Sting winning is, well, I dunno. Weird to send WM off the air with Mr. WCW standing tall.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Still don't think there's any way Sting isn't counting lights at WM.

    ReplyDelete
  62. They really are screwed but looking at it it really is the best way to close the show at this point. Its the best hope for a decent reaction to see Sting in a WWE ring for the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Most of 13 had a weak build. Excluding Bret vs Stone Cold and the Street Fight

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's when they should have a pull-apart brawl.

    ReplyDelete
  65. ***? Very generous of you.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Probably not, but it will be hard to match my apathy for miz/cena and rock/cena 2

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was there live and that beat down went on an uncomfortably long time (like 5+ minutes) until Orton finally hit an RKO on the announce table which I don't think was on TV.
