RNR Express in 1988

Watching Clash of the champions Miami Mayhem and they have a segment welcoming back the rock n roll express. Yet I don't remember them doing anything of note in the nwa that year. So, is there a story behind this?

If it's the time period I'm thinking of, they jumped to the AWA for a little while and bounced around between there and Memphis.  The appeal was really dead in the water by late 88 because it was really a short shelf life on the teen idol thing.  They didn't really pop up again until 1990 and by that time the act was pretty much done thanks to Gibson's pretty gnarly knee injury and the Steiner Brothers becoming the team everyone wanted.

  1. Blasphemous statement: of all the legendary tag teams, the RNRs are the ones I think I have the hardest time getting into. I grew up a diehard Rockers fan, and I kind of think they did the RNRs gimmick better than the RNRs did.

  2. I hated them, and was a huge Midnight Express fan. Never really got the appeal of the RNR

  3. Ricky Morton: 44 year old teen idol.

  4. These guys were NWA so I never really cared all that much, but they always just seemed kinda greasy to me. Not like a babyface heartthrob team at all.

The Rockers came off way better, even if they were in fact extremely greasy under the facade.

  5. Rockers were the team that would sneak roofies into you and take you back to the hotel. RnR were the team that would sneak you roofies and take you the shed out in the woods.

  6. Southern chicks love southern men. Kinda hard to believe but not woman is attracted to the Channing Tatum type. It is what it be.

  7. They're gods in the south. Jericho and Lance Storm were talking about Smoky Mountain on Jericho's podcast, and Jericho brought up the "Strange Kentucky People" video, and how this family had a picture of Jesus, and then ABOVE Jesus, a picture of the Rock and Roll Express.

  8. Seriously, growing up, they always looked so old aND kinda ugly (especially compared to the adored Rockers on the other channel). maybe it's a southern thing

Have you seen most southern people? A guy with a lazy eye and a guy with a hooked nose are premium hunks down there.

The south is a weird place indeed.

  11. Just how many children does Ricky Morton have?

  12. So I count me in the camp that never got how they were heart throbs either? They looked liked like crazy white trash meth dealers. I'm not saying I can't see how they could get laid, I just don't get how they were like this group the girls fawned over. Jesus christ southern girls, get it together.

So I bring this up every time they come up but what is the definitive Mxe v RnR match? Because I've only seen the two mid south ones on youtube that always pop up and the NWA ones that are supposedly way inferior to the mid south ones. WWE can't put this on the network?

  15. Ricky Morton was semi-attractive in the early 80's... but damn if he didn't age overnight sometime around 1987. Gibson... eh... maybe people didn't believe in glasses down south.

  17. A lot of northern dudes love southern chicks. I never got it, the whole having to come up with excuses why not to eat the spaghetti is just weird to me.

  18. The Rock and Rolls were guys who the girls loved because they were so adorable, like how girls like pugs.
