Bat Hart

I have literally never heard of that before.  I would tend to call baloney on that one because I don't think the timing would have worked, either.  Bret already had commitments to Lonesome Dove around that time and then signed the 20 year deal with WWF and was pretty much full time again.  After marathoning the first season of Community this weekend, however, I do think they should let Abed have a crack at it.

I did know about Elysium being written for Eminem, however.

Comments

  1. Huh, so if Eminem ended up starring in Elysium like planned, the movie would have been good! Right?

I take it as he was hand-picked over DBry. If he avoided interaction with him during the buildup I don't think the fans would have had a problem.

100% BS. Batman Triumphant was going to star Clooney and O'Donnell again. Bret was in WCW at the time it would have been made (summer 1998) and release (summer 1999).

  5. That Brock match was amazing. I think Lesnar removing the gloves and smacking Reigns right into the next universe was amazing. If Lesnar hit me like that I would have died. I do think the match itself was the right direction to take Reigns somehow not dying out there.

P.S. Season 4 sucks. Just about everything else is very good or better.

  9. There were a lot of ways they could have pulled the trigger on Reigns without the open middle finger to Daniel Bryan's fanbase.

Why was it never considered just to use Bryan as Brock's challenger at the Rumble? That way Bryan gets his title shot and the big marquee match with Lesnar and the antipathy toward Reigns would have not been there.

I also thought the via satellite stuff when he had the hernia did not help at all; that was basically the RNN segments they used to turn Randy Orton heel.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If Reigns won you would have Reigns versus Rusev, big show, kane, Bray, Rollins heading into the summer.

With Rollins as champ you have Orton, (wtf was Ryback doing in that 3-way) Reigns, and then I guess Brock whenever they decide to bring him back.

They are kind of lacking on the face side with Cena and Bryan stuck in midcard purgatory. And theyre not gaining any breakout guys with Cena and Bryan beating everyone.

Unfortunately I can't see how it's not going to be "wake me up when Brock comes back".

    ReplyDelete
  25. You hate him because he reminds you of something that was the most awesome thing in wrestling (the Shield) which is now the opposite of awesome since he's the only one representing

I really enjoyed the Mania match too and don't mind Roman half as much now knowing that he isn't in the title picture. Would still like to see him go through some kind of change though

  26. I still feel season 1 offered the best laughs. My favourite season, personal preferences and all

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah it's somewhere in *** land. Can you imagine "Suplex City, Bitch!" Brock attitude with his 2002 athleticism? There is a greatest of all time somewhere in between Old Brock and Young Brock.

I thought the Bryan match at Fast Lane was painfully dull, it didn't play to either man's strengths and it made me hate Reigns even worse.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm surprised the WWE didn't know that Rollins would be the breakout of The Shield from the word go. He has the most exciting in ring style and was the mastermind behind turning on them and they even had him win the blood feud with Ambrose by way of the Ghost of Bray Wyatt. At no point did Rollins not look like The Smartest Man In The Room.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Gotta love the handshakes and putting the other dude over WWE thing. That Sting vs. Triple H ending "Sorry about all that cheating I did pal, shake my hand."

    ReplyDelete
  31. I didn't think Rollins would be the breakout star either mainly because he was so terrible on the mic. But then within the space for 2 weeks he suddenly became AWESOME on the mic. No idea how that happened but I'm glad it did because he's wrestling's MVP at the moment

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think I've determined my issue with Reigns is he has no physical charisma. He doesn't do any of those little movements that engage the fans or build the moments within his matches. He's got that thing where he pounds the mat before the Superman punch (standard operating procedure) and that's the only time he even acknowledges the audience is there.

Watching the Brock match, before the match starts, Brock is moving around the ring like an animal that can't wait to be let loose, and Reigns is just in his stoic douche stance. He doesn't do any physical storytelling, outside of finally selling for Brock. Oh, and laughing while he's getting beat up, in the least endearing way possible. It's in his promos too, he acts like he's been cast as a stock action hero, trying way too hard to be cool and totally overlooking the human element.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I never thought he was terrible although he has definitely improved. He seems confident and has a very naturalist style to his interviews that I like. Actually that was true of how all The Shield stuff was done before they started giving Reigns the Looney Tunes soliloquies.

  36. Spot on. Not sure what all those reports about his "natural charisma" are based on but we've yet to see a shred of it

    ReplyDelete
  37. 2nd half of that match was good, thanks to Bryan working pseudo heel. And alot was lost with Brock when he left. Brock on top would have given the WWE a better shot at another boom period. He was a freak during his first run.

And as much as I like the Ricky Spanish persona, Scotch Bingington will always be my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Reigns is just a victim of the WWE vs the fans feud. Once word got out that Reigns was WWE's handpicked guy he had no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Reigns should totally answer Cena's open challenge. It'd be the best thing for him. The normal fans can choose between who they like more. The smarks can choose between who they hate more. Cena would go above and beyond to try and get him over. Maybe they can have a draw on Raw (like a Reigns spearing Cena through the barricade causing a double count-out....or something) and then they can have a big PPV rematch.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah after say episode 8 it got good for me. Seasons 2-3 were legendary IMO. It was the only show I tivod for a while.

  42. yeah no way is this guy ever "leaving the product and the network for good"

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was thinking the same thing the other day, the best way to turn Reigns back into a monster babyface is to book 4 more months of Cena doing the open challenge and winning, then have Reigns challenge him at Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I felt that way about Seasons 1-2. Season 3 had some definite gems, but I hated the narrative that they used at the end of the season (i.e. they should all be locked up), so I didn't like it quite as much as the previous 2.

The story for Batman Triumphant matches what I've heard before - Scarecrow hitting Bats with fear toxin, making him see the Joker, which they hoped to be played again by Nicholson. But the casting for everything but the Joker seemed to be pulled out of someone's ass.

As was mentioned below, Clooney was the frontrunner, and I don't think I've ever heard anyone else considered. Casting Bret Hart, in 1998, 1999 or 2000, when the movie would likely have come out, would have guaranteed the movie would have been direct to video at best. Outside of wrestling fans, NO ONE knew who Bret Hart was.

    ReplyDelete
  52. No love for Jenny Fromdabloc?

I just can't see a scenario where Bryan is even de-facto heel at this point. It's like trying to get people to boo puppies and kittens.

The guy comes off likable on fucking TOTAL DIVAS.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I've never visited the site before so suggesting Bret Hart was in the running to play Batman is bad first impression. That said, I would have shown up at midnight on opening day with the pink shades if it ever happened.

    ReplyDelete
  56. In what other business does a company so blatantly ignore and actually fight against its paying audience?

Well, aside from DC Comics and WB

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's because he HAS been cast as a stock action hero who tries too hard to be cool. Instead just letting him be cool. WWE wants SamoJohn Cena. Let Reigns be Goldberg (speak in one-liners only, kick ass) and he'd be perfectly fine.

It's simply shitty casting. It'd be like casting Rock as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet. That just isn't gonna work no matter how much you like Rock.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lonesome Dove -> horrendous Simpsons appearance in which he manages to play himself poorly -> Batman. Seems legit. I like that the source is unnamed, and even a google search turns up next to nothing. I was always under the impression Triumphant was to be another Clooney vehicle.

    ReplyDelete
  59. That's not true. Myself and others were on board for his rocket push after last year's Rumble. It's been the horrendous way they've built him up since then. The injury didn't help, but they completely botched his push in every imaginable way since he returned.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'd say it's both. The combination has turned what would normally be apathy to WWE's "chosen one" into hatred.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Further comment, would Bret Hart *really* not have mentioned this in his book? That he could have been BATMAN?!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've said it before ... Reigns would have been fine if he hadn't gotten hurt. It pushed everything back, and they should have just paused and reset and given the title shot to Bryan or Orton, both of whom kayfabe had real storylines that could lead into WM. They should have brought him back slow, given him Cena at WM or someone like that. Reset to Summerslam and have him win it there.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Bret Hart couldn't have been Batman. His cowl would have kept sliding off from all that hair grease.

  64. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogApril 9, 2015 at 11:18 AM

It was. Just not by WWE. :)

That really was the way to do it. Bryan comes back hastily from surgery, demanding a shot at the title he never lost. The Authority grants it because they may as well let Lesnar get rid of post-op Bryan once and for all. Make Bryan the biggest underdog of all time and lose clean in the middle after the fight of his life. Then whoever wins the Rumble (Reigns), hopefully gets the boost of fans wanting to see him beat the guy who killed Bryan off. Also, Roman is winning a Rumble match that does NOT include Daniel Bryan

    ReplyDelete
  65. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogApril 9, 2015 at 11:20 AM

If he never gets hurt, I'm assuming you get another Reigns match with Orton, then one or two with HHH, with Reigns leading the anti-Authority team at Survivor Series.

  67. Jenny Fromdabloc - That stress ball sure came in handy.
As for Bryan, I meant he was working a heel style vs Reigns. Turning Bryan would be beyond the Planters factory, but I put nothing past this comapny these days. But I suspect Bryan is a cool, laid back guy outside the ring. John Cena on Total Divas - that's how he should be in the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  68. He seems like an emotionless workaholic terminator on Total Divas. Also he wears the shorts in real life?

  69. They booked it to get as ugly as possible. I think they thought that Bray tossing Bryan would put heat on Bray to build toward the Undertaker match but what it actually did was put heat on the Royal Rumble and turned a million people at home and 15,000 live against the match.

Roman Reigns needs to be a heel

    1. Reigns plows through Big Show, Kane, et al while showing a harder edge. He finally gets a match booked with Triple H at SummerSlam 2015.
    2. Rollins beats Orton, Bryan, Cena, Ziggler, Ryback until Lesnar returns for his rightful re-match at SummerSlam 2015.
    3. Ambrose becomes more of a tweener over the next few months, then wins the MITB Briefcase in a surprise. He says he's gonna do what Rollins did and just sit on the Briefcase until Wrestlemania.
    4. Rollins beats Cena or Bryan at Battleground, when Ambrose helps Seth retain. He realigns with Rollins and they use the Briefcase as an "insurance policy" protection for Rollins' title reign. Their plan is to back each other up for the rest of the year, then face off at Wrestlemania 32 via Dean's cash-in. Both are crazy, unpredictable heels and fans are hopefully still wanting Dean to turn on Seth and cash in before next year.
    4. At SummerSlam, Reigns beats Triple H to hopefully get some heat. Ambrose vs. Cena/Bryan (whoever he screwed at Battleground). Rollins vs. Lesnar, WWE Title: Reigns comes out and turns heel to help Seth retain. The Shield reunites, triple-powerbombs Brock, and Brock actually fails in his re-match. The Authority is killed off, Brock has failed, and the Shield is running the show now. Seth has the title, Reigns is the dominant heel muscle again, and Ambrose has the Briefcase.
    5. If it's all going well by the end of the ear, Roman Reigns wins the Rumble again, this time as a dominant heel. Rollins (champ) vs. Reigns (RR winner) vs. Ambrose (MITB cash-in) at Wrestlemania 32. With all the part-timers rumored, I don't see a Seth Rollins title match headlining the show anyway, so why not? The Ambrose MITB thing gives you an audible, if the Shield thing isn't going great for some reason.

  73. Sorry, I only read Cracked lists once Caliber rips them off and posts them as his own.

  74. I'm calling bullshit. I can't find any legit source for that Bret Hart rumor anywhere on the internet. You'd think Hart would've mentioned it at some point in the countless hours of interviews he's done.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The funny thing is post Mania all 11 days of it so far has changed absolutely nothing.Roman is feuding with Big Show, Seth with Randy just what most of us expected except now Seth has the strap instead of Roman. Throw in Cena-Rusev 3 and Daniel Bryan,Dolph Ziggler and Bad News Barrett feuding along with the returning Sheamus.

WWE is sticking to the same ol plan they had a month ago.

  76. I always figured part of the reason why the film didn't go forward is because Clooeny dropped out. I'm not sure if they even considered recasting him for Triumphant. By 1998 WB was already working on a reboot, not Triumphant.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I actually want to see Reigns succeed when he's ready. I have nothing against the guy and it would be great to see a new main event guy. But he's so not ready yet and he has a lot of work to put in until he is. Working with the Big Show and Kane won't help him, either.

  79. To be fair, he didn't have much to work with in that Simpsons episode. The guy was written as an over-the-top cliché 1980s snarling wrestler (complete with 'pencil-neck geek' in his lines) and that's how he played it. I'm just happy to see him on "The Simpsons" even if his dialogue stinks and he's hamming it up horribly.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm just annoyed that they're ripping on his mic skills. I thought Bret was a great talker, both as the 'serious athlete-type' in the mid '90s and the whiny, bitter, grumpy anti-American at the end of his WWF run.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I would bet 90% of us feel the same way. He's got a lot of potential, but hasn't been allowed to learn how to work singles, cut promos, or find his personality.

    ReplyDelete
  82. If Vince likes meaty thighs so much, why is Reigns the most covered-up guy on the roster other than Stardust, Goldust and Los Matadores? Do his thighs not make the cut? And if not, why is Vince so into him?

  83. The best rumor movie of all time came from 2001 when Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage were booked to team up for the movie Men and Work 2. What was so funny about it, that all the film needed was the Ultimate Warrior as the villain, who steals the town's garbage. Sadly, this movie was only a rumor - but seriously having Warrior play "the evil Lord of trash" would have been amazing.

  90. I really used to dig Roman but I can't stand him right now. It was the silver-spoon treatment from Vince, getting pushed to the main event with 2 PPV singles matches and a Rumble win that made him look like a geek. ReplyDelete
  96. Interesting point but Roman was in a much different situation facing BROCK LESNAR~! and taking a beating no seen since VADER~! dominated WCW and got hit with everything and fought back maybe ... just MAYBE he could have defeated Brock. It was a great match and it they had built Roman up with good performances like that instead of the SHIT that was Royal Rumble 2015 people may not have been so opposed to his would be ascension. As Scott noted there were ways to get people behind Roman but they never use them.

Hardy was brought back to WWE to add to Edge's heat and nothing else. I honestly don't think there was anything else to his comeback than that.

  97. Everyone kicked out of finishing moves at Wrestlemania, the effect was lost on me by the time the main event rolled around. I was shocked they had Orton and Rollins kicking out of finishes during the first hour of the show. Just really poor psychology, you would think they would better with guys like Malenko and Anderson in the back. I was very disappointed. Roman Reigns kicking ou of F5's had no effect as I was trained as a viewer to expect that due to the homogenized "WWE Style".

    ReplyDelete
  98. He should be in black tights and boots, why is he still in The Shield?

    ReplyDelete
  99. I like Reigns and The Usos as a heel group while Reigns finds his sea legs.

    ReplyDelete
  100. He didn't kick out of three F5's at Wrestlemania. He only kicked out of two since Brock never bothered trying to pin him after the first.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Disagree. They kept Batista and Bryan completely apart until it was unavoidable, and people retaliated against Batista. The fans who initially rejected Reigns were smart enough to realize it was because he was handpicked over Bryan, even without the interaction.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I really thought Ambrose was going to bust out as a huge star. One of my favorite Raw main events for the past 5 years was his NO DQ match vs. Rollins. He just had this Mick Foley / Terry Funk like madness to him that was just magnetic. Then he left to film a shitty WWE films movie and has been buried / cooled off and even jobbed to a TV. Just sad.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Ambrose's story is so sad because he was the one guy in the Shield who wasn't protected, and it was because he had the workrate that made Rollins marketable and the fan support/overness that they wanted for Reigns. Rollins HAD to win that feud, because he'd be dead in the water if he lost. And Reigns HAD to win and look strong because they wanted him to be their star. But unfortunately, Ambrose hasn't been around long enough to be bulletproof like a Chris Jericho or CM Punk or Daniel Bryan or even Dolph Ziggler. If he keeps losing every high profile match and feud, the fans are going to stop supporting you and will view you as a loser. Even now, he wins more than he loses....but he loses every meaningful feud. So he's considered a loser, even though he doesn't lose ALL that much.

    ReplyDelete

  108. I think it is all about Bryan. If Bryan didn't came back before the Rumble (or WM), I think we could have all accepted Reigns as his substitution. But then Bryan comes back and I think everyone wanted him to win the Rumble, after what happened last year.

Btw. funny thing is that I think the feud against Kane killed Bryans title reign last year and it's the same Kane that killed Benoits title reign back in 2004. He just sucks every life of every feud he is in.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Forgot the title but I do remember the story seeing the Joker after a dose of fear toxin.

  112. I love saying that in Roman Reigns threads too. It's beautiful in it's simplicity.

  115. Cause the Shield looked cool.

  116. Reigns is all bricks, no mortar. A lot of the big "ya can't teach that" stuff, even the superficial stuff, he's got. Fortunately, the stuff he doesn't have is stuff ya CAN teach, so hopefully he'll fill in the gaps.

  117. The thing with Brock, now, is...what can he do, move-wise, to both keep kayfabe and look credible against his opponents?

He has MMA skills that could actually real world injure his opponents...so, he can't do that (unless that's the angle.) He has legitimate collegiate wrestling skills that far outshine all of his opponents (that's what made the WMXIX match-up intriguing...pitting him against Angle, who could go...that gives them more options.)

To work WWE style has limited him to big, repeated Germans...and his F-5. What's the point of doing anything else?

So, the F-5 is less of a finishing move now...and more of a "this is all designed to wear you down to nothing" move...just as the German suplexes are.

The intriguing part of the "missed opportunities" is to wonder what Bryan-Lesnar (with the right road agent) could look like. We may never know.

  118. If they ever do the "Shield Reforms" angle, he can be the one who always believed in the Shield...

  119. Would he be any better at cutting promos if he hadn't gotten hurt?

  120. You know, things would still have been rough, but I marvel at how much worse they made it by running Bryan and Reigns at each other.

If Reigns was their guy, they should have just run with that. Bryan lost, oh, well, there's another Rumble next year.

I can't begin to mentally picture the fan they thought they were gonna satisfy by half-committing to Reigns' push, running him at and over the top face on the roster and then having that guy cut a promo selling Reigns as the new guy you should be cheering for instead.
