Big Show and Kane.

Scott:

WHY?

Why, a week after one of its best Manias in recent history, does WWE INSIST on MOAR Kane and Big Show? I understand Big Show has hands like frying-pans (and must be seen in person to truly understand) but God damnit man--these two assholes just ruin anything resembling momentum or excitement. What is the deal? Show, in particular, most have pictures if Vince with goats or something. There is just no other reasonable explanation.

That aside, love the blog and appreciate the work you do in maintaining it. Its not easy with a family, I know.

Ryan

I think they should have been pushing the Sheamus-Barrett team in that position since January.  Same dynamic, but at least it's someone new with the potential to do something more.  And you get a bunch of fresh matchups, too!

Comments

  1. Also ... Sheamus and Barrett can have good matches

    ReplyDelete
  2. But Show was the New Year's baby! And it was hilarious! They told us it was!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Bnb and Sheamus aren't huge though...Kane and big show....huge

    ReplyDelete
  4. Huge fucking bores

    ReplyDelete
  5. Kane is a made man after his personas of an evil dentist & a fake Kevin Nash and being a loyal solider for the past 20 years (yes it's been THAT long!). Big Show is the biggest wrestler since Andre the Giant and will always have a place on the card. I agree they should be scaled back, but I can understand why alot of trust is put in them.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Perfectly fine midcard acts, but there's no fucking reason they should closing any show that isn't Main Event in goddamn 2015

    ReplyDelete
  7. Where's the Raw Recap by Logan Sisco, or whoever is doing the Raw Recap these days?

    ReplyDelete
  8. This is what happens when you don't trust the people who you're trying to make stars. Kane and Show should absolutely not be in opening RAW segments, final guys in the Royal Rumble or winning battle royals. But somebody, somewhere in the inner workings of creative, the office, both or neither, feel Kane and Show are big, familar guys to the audience and can be trusted to do jobs, go over, whatever. Not saying it's right; just trying to rationalize it.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think it boils down to convenience... Kane and Show have been consistently over for the last 15 years and particularly Kane has been a very loyal employee. It's understandable to see them in similar roles and positions so often. They won't put asses on seats but they fill out their role just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Because they haven't found anybody big enough to take their roles as "fearsome giant villains."

Seriously, how hard is it to find college centers that washed out?

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's the ultimate team up of disappointing surprise partner/opponents.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nobody has been fucked with or humiliated by management more than Big Show. If half the shit he's put up with (crying over losing his house!) happened to Punk or Bryan the Internet would break in half with bile and anger. But it's okay because he's Big Show.

I'm kinda hoping he gets overpaid by WWE forever. Guy deserves it.

  13. There's only one funny Baby New Year, daddeh http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pSCcMfz0uDw/VEkoa6XZYcI/AAAAAAAAAnY/ocyKfxpqe5U/s1600/baby%2Bnew%2Byear.jpg

  14. Here's a fun question: If you could free the WWE of Kane and Big Show, but to do so you had to remove them from the WWE's history, like Glen Jacobs and Paul WIght simply never got into the business would you do it? Have they reached the point of being so terrible that their best moments no longer justify their present existence?

To answer my own question. Yes. Absolutely. 100% would take this deal. Kane and Show's crimes outnumber their triumphs by a ration of at least 79 to 1.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't know why Show can't just host a talk show or something or the network and just be a special attraction.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh I know what their rationale is, I just wanted to hammer home that it's stupid as fuck, especially simce both guys don't draw dick at the gate

    ReplyDelete
  17. As clint eastwood once said "deserves got nothing to do with it". Who cares about past performance, his boring as sin in this role

    ReplyDelete
  18. LIVE from Parking Lot C in Stamford, Connecticut it's BIG SHOW LIVE!!! Featuring Hornswoggle, along with Honky Tonk Man and the Frying Pan Hands Band! Tonight, Show welcomes Lana! The Prime Time Players! Musical Guests 3MB, and Rusev rides a tiny bike!

And Now... WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL IT'S THE BIG SHOW!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Or at least Swagger or Cesaro in the Sheamus/Barrett position. Kane should have been fighting at Bryan's side against the Authority and Big Show...eh, who gives a fuck about Big Show.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sin is a whole lot more entertaining than Big Show.

Even WCW Sin is more entertaining. And that had a main event of Scott Steiner, Sid, Jarrett and ANIMAL! With Sid snapping his leg!

    ReplyDelete
  21. intriguing...I'd love barrett and sheamus in the kane/big show position.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Really cool ending to the show, yes, but I think the e-mailer is praising Mania a lot more than it deserves here.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh man, I totally forgot about Big Show sobbing as he punched people in the Fall of 2013. That was when Stephanie cut that awful promo about always looking up to Show backstage when she was a kid although he's only 4 years older than her and wasn't even in the company until she was 22.

    ReplyDelete
  24. opens up the fun can of worms in how different the state of wrestling would be if they were removed completely.

WM16's main event is suddenly amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Who's more useless to wrestling: Big Show or Beau James? At least Beau can cut a decent promo.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've always believed it's Jerry Lawler who has pictures of Vince with goats

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jerry... Jerry might not be the guy to try the "embarrassing evidence" thing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. How about all the Kane vs Big Show matches we are gonna get when the authority breaks up?

    ReplyDelete
  29. More than anything the continued presence of Big Show and Kane demonstrates the company's inability to build up top-level stars. The only reason they're still there is because they haven't left yet to pursue something else like Lesnar, Lashley, Batista, or any of the other "top stars" that didn't want to be stuck working for McMahon for their whole lives.

    ReplyDelete
  30. SHANE manages Jericho in the four-way?

    ReplyDelete
  31. They've had horrible luck keeping guys in that "size group."

    ReplyDelete
  32. Vince - Muh Mastodons!

    ReplyDelete
  33. God damnit man! Indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mills Lane: ............... I'll allow it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Put the women and children to bed, it's gonna get ugly...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Part of the problem is that nobody was allowed to be on Cena's level. Punk came the closest, but they kept cutting his legs out for under him to ensure he'd never make Cena-level money because the ultimate fear is that Punk would become "bigger than WWE" and then leave and make more money elsewhere.

So let's say your Lashley or Morrison and you know you're never going to advance much further than the level you're at now, which means your paychecks won't be getting any bigger. You can still make good money without being on the road every week by working for other wrestling companies with less dates and and with outside projects (movies for Morrison, MMA for Lashley). Why stick around and wrestle 3-4 days a week and watch your money get eaten up by road expenses?

  37. Pardon my TJ: i'm about to apply for another position within the company I work for, and even though I have actual experience doing the work, I dont technically qualify because I dont have a degree. Ive never really tried to get this kind of job before so I gotta ask the more professional among us: do employers really care about that kind of thing? Its not anything where i'd need professional training or anything it just seems to be a foregone conclusion to an office job. Has anyone been in this type situation before? I'm kinda nervous about it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Too bad Big Cass is like 240 lbs. and not a muscle mass.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I used to think that only things you can count on in life are death, taxes, and Undertaker/Kane matches, but now I suppose you can change that to Big Show/Kane.

Also, when Kane finally retires, they need a 10 hour documentary on him. A background so ridiculous and a career so over the top they had to write a FICTION NOVEL to try to example his story.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It feels like there used to be tons of guys billed at 6'10 to 7'2.

Now there's none. Except Show and Kane.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's easier to get promoted up than hired at a higher position without a degree.

Experience will get you promoted without. But lateral moves tend to bite you in the ass without one.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What we really need is a fresh John Cena vs Randy Orton feud.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have an engineering degree and a law degree and I've never once seen it matter, especially if you're applying within the same company. Any place I've ever worked, the only thing that matters is if you have experience doing the work (25%) and who you know (75%).

They'll be likely to interview you since you're internal. If it really matters to them, they'll ask you about it and you can explain you have direct experience.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Murph, in my experiences usually it depends on the Company. Large Fortune 500 Company, you're screwed. Smaller, somewhat informal company, they dont really care. It would help if you are "in process of getting" said degree (i.e. enrolled in bullshit classes to give appearance of working towards said degree)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lateral= different company

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm in HR, and involved in the hiring process quite intimately. If the job says "degree required" and you don't have one, then you will probably get disqualified from consideration right off the bat. I'm not saying it's right, or that you're not qualified - but most companies consider that a minimum qualification for some jobs. If you don't have it, you won't be considered.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Good Luck to you! Hope it works out

    ReplyDelete
  48. Morrison isn't in that size group so Vince gladly let him go

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would say no to Kane and yes to Big Show. In the grand scheme of things, I really can't think of a single thing that Big Show did that was great, or a single scenario where he made something better. Kane had a lot of great moments.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Easily the best Nash match ever and holy God did the undercard suck for WWF until around late 97 or so.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It sounded like Vince just ran by three jobs by Nash, he agreed to 2 and shot down the other and that was the end of the conversation. It wasn't like Vince was adamant he do it and Nash refused.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think they just wanted to give Shawn/Diesel a proper blowoff and put Shawn over the guy who was pushed o top of the company the past year. If Nash goes to WCW and has some Dungeon of Doom Hogan feud instead of the nWo Vince pushing him on the way out doesn't look as bad.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree with Scott's rating for Vader/Razor but disagree that it was really boring. I enjoy the match and think it was good. Shame it came as Razor was out the door because an extended program between the two would have been interesting.

Razor was big enough to play the big man but his style lent itself to fighting from underneath so to speak against a guy like Vader.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My ranking for best Kevin Nash matches:

    1. GFBE
    2. Vs Bret King of the Ring 94
    3. Vs Bret Survivor Series 95
    4. Vs Razor SummerSlam 94
    5. Vs Shawn WM 11

I really dislike the Bret/Diesel match from the Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I am, but he most definitely brought it for his big PPV matches in '96 (except Beware of Dog).
