After they split up the new Rockers in late 96 it seemed like they gave Leif a more serious edge and a little bit of a push as his new role was to give guys good matches in PPV openers, which was a good spot for him to showcase his talents, but I think WWF were put off with his subpar match against Mero at Final Four and Snow returned back to being a jobber again, not even being showcased on PPV anymore until Heyman nabbed him.
ReplyDeleteRey's somebody that I definitely want to hear the shoot from.
ReplyDeleteECW vid looks great as usual. Should have the Douglas hospital promo tho.
ReplyDeleteThey should have Khali join the Authority. A trio of Kane, Big Show, and Khali could be the greatest heat generating team of our generation.
ReplyDeleteMy copy comes in the mail today.
ReplyDeleteOk, Gordon.
ReplyDeleteBig Show: Did you order the hamburgers?
ReplyDeleteKhaki: Armabesh devabesh ra.
Kane: Well he does have a greasy bag in his hands.
Khali: Armabesh devabesh ra.
Big Show: Give me the bag.
Khali: Armabesh devabesh ra.
Big Show: Wait a minute, there is nothing but French fries in this bag.
Kane: That's my order. Thanks Khali.
Khali: Armabesh devabesh ra.
Big Show: What are we going to do to Daniel Bryan tonight.
Khali: Armabesh devabesh ra.
Kane: Wait a minute, these aren't french fries.
[Khali grabs bag]
Khali: Mah foo. Mah foo.
If Big Show and Kane were immobile enough for you, here comes the return of the Great Khali!
ReplyDeleteYOU GOTTA SEE THEM IN PERSON!
ReplyDeleteApril Fools! ....ohhhhhh
ReplyDeleteTwo ***1/2 star matches to his name. Triple H and Cena are miracle workers.
ReplyDeleteHands. Frying Pans. Nuff said.
ReplyDelete"Thanks. I pride myself in working hard"---Cena
ReplyDelete"Of course I am. I'M THE GAME"---HHH
Is there no other Indian wrestler they could hire to fill that quota?
ReplyDelete... sure, we can go with that.
ReplyDeleteSonjay Dutt?
ReplyDeleteKhali. IF that article from the other day is accurate and he's just using the WWE to try and start a Wrestling Fed in India under the auspices of WWE. Fine. If he is actually going to start wrestling again because Vince thinks the dude is a draw? Maybe they think that they'll get more subscriptions to the Network in India? But one might think he'd have to actually win matches and...Eesh. I don't know.
ReplyDeleteI'm Indian, and I can safely tell you no fan in this country has ever given a fuck about him
ReplyDeleteOne might think he'd actually be able to MOVE, let alone win matches.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can do comedy finishes. Like he gets KO'd but falls on his opponent and pins him.
ReplyDeleteKhali's back! WWE IS SAVED!!
ReplyDeleteFans: WE DON'T WANT REIGNS.
ReplyDeleteVince: (in gravel angry voice) FINE!...I'm going to bring back....I'm going to bring back...KHALIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Fans: Oh no! We love Reigns!
Oh, cool. Are there any home grown guys from India that are popular? Do you guys have any Indian federations that people go to? Is there some sort of Indian version of the Hart family for example?
ReplyDeleteHad to look him up but he definitely looks a better option. Also had no idea there were backyard wrestling video games on Xbox... they don't look too shabby
ReplyDeleteThey definitely want Khali back for their Indian market aspirations, just hearing Cena mention how much they want to establish themselves there and in China as well confirms that. And much like their Mexican plans with Del Rio, no one will give a serious fuck.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Snow blow out his knee in that match?
ReplyDeleteCena's far and away the most popular guy,it's not even close.
ReplyDeleteAs far as homegrown talent goes,TNA had a talent show, didn't really work out though.WWE has been the dominant player here for nearly 2 decades.
Speaking of Hart,Bret was really well liked back in the day.
How is latino heat ranked 206?
ReplyDeleteIn case you missed it: Twisters have been ripping the SHIT out of the Midwest. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected.

Best use of khali ever: longest yard movie
ReplyDeleteKhali.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
Me too. Stopped at #4 as well. That shit is FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC.
ReplyDeleteMake Mine Marvel.
Yeah, shame about Ring Ka King. I wish it had worked out.
ReplyDeleteIs Laredo Kid any good?
ReplyDeleteYour review comes next week. Do it to it!
ReplyDeleteThe Bak3ray is back!
ReplyDeleteThis year's show are at least better than 1993-95, because even though WWF's roster was lacking, all of the relevant guys are now regulars rather than, say, Razor Ramon, Bret, and HBK only showing up once every 3 taping cycles like in '94.
ReplyDeleteDuring the KOTR tournament episodes a few weeks after this. It's completely anticlimactic though, and I'm sure the reaction in '96 was "And then Austin hits a jawbreaker and...wins the match? Weird."
ReplyDeleteWCW was less crappy when Nitro started. Yes there was still crap in both companies but as a teenager it wasn't unwatchable. ECW may have had the best year of the 3.
ReplyDeleteI guess so. The Dungeon of Doom just...ugh
ReplyDeleteI was like, "I NEED TO STOP READING THIS AND SCROLL DOWN AND POST... oh."
ReplyDeleteI need that thing a bit more snug
ReplyDeleteDid Shawn ever realize how lame his character was? And was it just HBK and HHH messing with people at this point or did they ever add more people to the crew?
ReplyDeleteYeah, Shawn did, at least to an extent. It might have had something to do with his bad attitude/tantrums, as by his own admission, Shawn was rather immature, and he tended to make mountains out of molehills. Knowing that he was fighting a losing battle (on the character front, as well as business-wise) would have been hard for him to handle.
ReplyDeleteAnd he didn't add the KICK WHAM for awhile, right?
ReplyDeleteah never saw this. thanks
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how anyone can get through those 1996 Raw episodes, good God.
ReplyDeleteI always wish al would have showcased his technical skills more than his goofy gimmicks, as he had some decent matches at various times. I remember a great match he had on smackdown against Perry Saturn. Should have busted out the snowsault and dragon sleeper more often. Can't help thinking he would have been a better fit for the thrillseekers (and I like lance storm), but then maybe he wouldn't have helped train glen.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I saw a midcard Al Snow match at a house show, it was excellent. One of those was vs Saturn.
ReplyDeleteYup. Same.
ReplyDeleteSurvivor Series 1996. Al Snow's best WWE Match. Nothing else comes close.
ReplyDeleteHe had a pretty nice showcase match with Flash Funk at IYH: It's Time. I would consider that probably his best singles match.
ReplyDeleteI remember Leif Cassidy doing the "frustrated jobber/unstable guy on the edge" gimmick after The New Rockers split up. I was hoping they would do more with him. When RVD came in to do that ECW Invasion angle, I remember the WWF was openly promoting a Light Heavyweight Division starting up soon, and they made it seem like RVD, Cassidy, Flash Funk, etc. would have been prominently featured. Instead, RVD and Cassidy went down to ECW (which probably was the right move for both guys), and they ended up building around TAKA instead with a bunch of USWA jobbers padding out the division.
ReplyDeleteDid Nash refuse to job? (I'm being serious btw, once you're done laughing)
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the early Stunner. The KICK WHAM set-up was entertaining, but it had a certain cartoonish quality (let's be honest, the Austin character in general basically became a cartoon by mid-98). The original Stunner was set up more methodically, and it fit the "cold calculating killer" vibe of the character at that time.
ReplyDeleteI may be wrong but the first KICK WHAM was against Triple H at IYH: Buried Alive. Coincidentally (or maybe not coincidentally) when he debuted his iconic "glass shatters" theme.
ReplyDeleteHe had nothing on Avatar or Shinobi.
ReplyDeleteWWE = Dilbert principle.
ReplyDeleteFor 1996, I still mourn the never-happened Warrior-Michaels SurSer main event.
Warrior would actually fight two or three more times on RAW before his departure.
ReplyDeleteAlso, The Shawn/Bulldog angle while showing slight signs of Attitude Era type booking, did nothing for the Bulldog as a whole. I remember to recap some issues between Shawn and Bulldog in the past, they pretty much talked about how Shawn always beat him, for the I-C belt in '92, the '95 Rumble, and also eliminating him in the '96 Rumble. Yeah, way to build up a challenger.
As for the whole Diana angle, the potential for an awesome payoff was there, but with the Hart's being uptight about the whole thing (as detailed in Bret's book), sadly it was not to be.
Man, you're forgetting Papi Chulo. You can't forget Papi Chulo.
ReplyDeleteI dont think he KICKED WHAMMED him at that one. I dont know when he debuted that.
ReplyDeletewarriors last raw match was against owen hart which was odd because he was just suspended before the match started. Thats why you don't tape a month in advance
ReplyDeleteThey also would sell it as if it damaged their throat at first
ReplyDeleteHe had a real good IYH ppv opener vs Flash Funk too.
ReplyDeleteBooze. Lots and lots of booze.
ReplyDelete
