BoD Daily Update

Steve Austin/WrestleMania 31 Update

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Austin was booked on a flight to San Jose and had to transfer to a flight out of Dallas from San Antonio, as did the Undertaker who was flying out of Austin, TX, meaning that Undertaker and Austin were scheduled to be on the same flight at some point.  Johnson also notes that it is entirely possible that Austin was not even aware a flight was booked for him but also confirmed that when Austin did not show up it was a topic of conversation within the WWE. Dave Scherer also independently confirmed that there was a space for Austin marked backstage at WrestleMania.

  1. That was an awesome main event, Cena did a good job. I can't believe that was 9 years ago and we are still talking about how Cena sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  2. The current NXT is the WWECW/WWE Developmental that hardcore fans always wanted -- it just took WWE a while to figure out a working model.

The first two ECW One Night Stand PPVs were the PERFECT reunion shows. But like most reunions in entertainment -- think movie sequels years after the fact or band reunions when they're way past their primes -- it would never have sustained the initial interest even if it was run like the good ol' days, which it wouldn't have been.

NXT wouldn't be NXT if it was just trying to do ECW circa 1996 over again.

So I guess we can safely ignore RAW till MITB?

  4. Chris Copeland and his wife got stabbed last night at a nightclub. Two Hawks players got arrested for trying to prevent police from making a crime scene, (Sefalosha, Antic). Strange...

  5. So, we'll be back to under 4 million ratings until Lesnar comes back around July, right?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I can't think of anyone that Cena could fight to get that kind of heat again.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Cena vs Orton,one more timeApril 8, 2015 at 7:10 AM

Its funny because Cena eventually became a far better wrestler than RVD ever was.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Man that club had the incident w the Gracies and the bouncer months ago too.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Any relation to Adam?

    ReplyDelete
  10. July? We'll be lucky to see him before the Royal Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Got the Mountain Goats album yesterday. Southwest Territory and Heel Turn 2: gangster tracks.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Raw rating drops 1.4 million in a week??? Nice

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ohio is attempting to pass a bill that allows people to carry guns without permits or training. Fuck this. I think I'll move to Canada.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's only a matter of time before the title ends up back on Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Kansas is already there I believe. Fucking insanity.

    ReplyDelete
  16. There is ZERO benefit to passing these bills. It makes no sense at all.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Strange considering the show after Mania was awesome. NCAA finals?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Austin said nothing to see here, but sucks he isn't doing Tough Enough.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey, the constitution gives me the right to do anything at any time with any kind of gun, no restrictions, no debate, no considerations, no exceptions. But only with guns.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Holy shit, that's a big drop. Were last week's ratings properly verified?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Definitely, the NCAA Finals ratings were up 33% from last year.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Cena vs Orton,one more timeApril 8, 2015 at 7:22 AM

Reigns vs Show for more than 10 minutes?

    ReplyDelete
  23. No Bryan, no ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, the finals causes the low rating. Check out the drops in the last two hours, the game started at 9:18

    ReplyDelete
  25. Someone posted here yesterday that they went against the NCAA final last year and this year's rating was much worse.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, the NCAA Men's Basketball tourney started at 9:18. The numbers are not as bad as they seem

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was thinking about the Sting thing and how poorly WWE has used Goldberg, Steiner, the cruiserweights, and most of the other WCW guys, and it got me thinking.

WWF purchasing WCW in 2001 pretty much went in the most awful way possible with the exception of some really cool DVD compilations. WWF buying WCW hurt the wrestlers (not giving them another national promotion to work for), hurt the fans (not giving them an alternative), hurt WWF/WWE (by removing competitive fire from the company), and hurt the future of the industry (by making U.S. wrestling post-2001 almost completely defined by "WWE style", both in-ring and in the presentation of the product). We've also discussed how awful the Invasion itself was from a creative standpoint.

And now the history of WWF vs. WCW has essentially been reduced to: "WCW was a crap organization until WCW stole WWF's biggest stars. WCW then used WWF's stars to win in the ratings for a few months. Then Triple H became popular and invaded Nitro on a DX tank that suspiciously looked like a military jeep but we call it a tank because a tank sounds cooler. Shortly afterward WCW collapsed and WWF bought it."

    ReplyDelete
  28. You can't take the word of someone directly involved! An INSIDER says there's controversy!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Vince jordan

    ReplyDelete
  30. When Brock left he took the viewers with him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The NCAA Finals ratings weren't as high last year.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No Brock, no ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No Taker, no ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pretty much all of the things were feared at the time could happen because of the buyout, ended up happening. The only company to even remotely come close to competition to the WWE after 2001 was TNA, and they are more like "competition." The scary thing is there likely will be no other company ballsy/stupid enough to try to take on WWE and create a new war.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why does it seem that the only one pushing this story is Mike Johnson about Austin.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So next week are we going to blame a new episode of Two Broke Girls?

    ReplyDelete
  37. No Authority, no ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  38. No shirt, no shoes, no service.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No, that'd be stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's pretty much it.

I still don't understand how I was supposed to go from booing Vince McMahon for four years to suddenly caring about his ownership of the company. I also don't understand how faces and heels were supposed to work during the invasion, or why it needed to be led by two WWF guys (Austin and Angle).

    ReplyDelete
  41. Basically everything everyone said would eventually come to pass has. Heenan...Jim Cornette etc. They all called this in 2001.

    ReplyDelete
  42. No Tyson Kidd or Cesaro, no ratings, FACT.

    ReplyDelete
  43. No shirt, no shoes, no problem.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah all WWE got out of the WCW purchase are the copyrights and video archive (which is a heck of a lot in it's self....especially at the price they paid). But reall, what homegrown WCW talent that came over in 2001 went on to draw money in WWE? Booker T? No. So nobody.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't even think there needs to be a "war" as we knew it in the 1990s. A mid-size wrestling company -- bigger than TNA, but not in WWE's league -- could easily co-exist with WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Also, Lie Cheat Steal was the underdog against Stardust's theme and is currently winning 58-4.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So is blaming it on the NCAA Finals when they've been getting those types of ratings for a long time now except the day after Mania, which always spikes.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It his source and he is sticking by them.

    ReplyDelete
  49. No, casual fan interest always spikes the night after WrestleMania, then the casuals go away again. It isn't anything new.

Plus, the night after WM last year didn't even go against the Finals of the NCAA.

    ReplyDelete
  50. NXT has more seasoned and athletic guys than ECW but I see some straight lines. CJ Parker, when he was around, pretty much reminds me of an ECW jobber. Cassidy and Amore and Carmela are right out of ECW. Goofball stuff like The Vaudevillains too.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Antic is a scary looking dude. He would fit in perfectly as a Euro movie villain.

    ReplyDelete
  52. He was already a better wrestler. It wasn't about being a better wrestler, it's never been.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well, you have to remember that outside of like Cleveland and Columbus, out state is a bunch of rednecks, so you might be moving to Canada.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well that's the thing -- we were supposed to cheer Vince McMahon because we were supposed to be cheering for WWF over WCW. But that meant WWF pissed away any chance of bringing over those 2-3 million people who watched Nitro every week.

Like everything else since 1999-ish, WWF vs. WCW really just became McMahon vs. McMahon, as always, as if WWF vs. WCW -- a feud fans had been dying to see for YEARS -- wasn't interesting enough.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I always found it funny that the crowd chanted "same old shit!" at Cena while RVD carried on hitting the same spots he has in every match he's ever had. Also he looked to be in terrible shape by the end. It's weird how RVD's crowning moment was the point I started going off him as a performer.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Last week was obviously boosted by following a good wrestlemania that had a surprise/controversial ending.

    ReplyDelete
  57. THAT is the argument they'll be making.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Austin has come out and said there is no heat between him and WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It didn't this year either. I'm just saying that RAW's ratings have been bad for awhile now. Were people were expecting the ratings from last week to continue? That's a 1 out of 52 rating they'll get. There's no way they keep that up. If anything, they'll end up with worse ratings next week than this week and back to normal.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Remember when RAW's ratings used to GROW over the course of two hours and we'd see an ungodly number for the overrun?

Now it seems people tune in and 8 to find out what's happening for the rest of the show and start to leave in the second hour. By the time the third hour roles around and they realize they're going to see yet another match involving some combination of Rollins/Reigns/Orton/Show/Kane, they peace out. Why stick around to watch the same 5-6 guys fight each other in different combinations yet again?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes, but to lose everyone from last week is disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  62. No Disco Inferno, no ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah I guess Rey.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Literally when WWF bought WCW, Vince was a heel drugging his wife, and Shane was the hero fighting for his mom. Then, suddenly, we hit the brakes and Shane is a dastardly heel and Vince is the sympy billionaire.

    ReplyDelete
  65. He didn't come over right away, though, he came in well after the invasion died down.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Who is the host of it?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I have never watched an entire '3 hour Raw. Not once. I've tuned it at 8, watched for a while, left and came back. But never the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't think they have announced it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This weekend I randomly decided to try to watch the episode of Raw where Mankind wins the title, and all I can say about the Attitude Era looking back is that the good stuff was legendary but the bad stuff was truly, truly awful.

3 midcard matches to start, all of watch had either DQ/no contest finishes and multiple run-ins. This was followed by the Chyna/Mark Henry/Sammy angle with Chyna's horrible mic work, although this did lead to the classic "Sweet Jesus! A penis!" moment. THEN they got to the Terri miscarriage angle and I just couldn't do it. I'll probably fast forward to the Mankind/Rock match.

I will say this - as much of a train wreck as Attitude Era Raw could be, it was never boring and you can't say that about Raw today.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Why do they want to do Rousey vs McMahon at WM 32? Why not do Rousey vs a woman hating Miz. That would be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  71. He might have tried to come out and get sympy from the people, but he didn't get no sympy from me!

Yeah, if you watch that final Nitro/RAW simulcast, Shane is the conquering hero because he bought WCW. Fans are cheering, everyone is happy.

When WWF finally got around to relaunching WCW on Raw on July 2 (almost four months later), they did it in Tacoma, WA with a clown like Buff Bagwell, of all people, in the match. In June, RAW was in Richmond, VA and Tampa, FL. The VERY next week -- July 9 -- RAW was in Atlanta. Wouldn't you have relaunched it there instead?

I mean, I can't be the only one who thinks it makes buckets more sense to relaunch WCW on the July 9 RAW in Atlanta, GA instead of the July 2 RAW in Tacoma, WA.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Austin doesn't seem like the kind of guy to shy away from expressing his feelings about anything. If there was a misunderstanding, he'd probably say so.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Until today I disliked how WWE replaced the original Waterproof Blonde version of Christian's theme music.

Listening to it now.... Holy crap, what a poorly-played, technical disaster that version is. You might as well have assembled a team of drunk monkeys to play it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. While it was an exciting moment, it always felt like a sort of lifetime achievement award for RVD to win the WWE title that night. Even then, you had a non-referee official counting the pin, so that always kind of cheapened it a little bit. I don't think he would have lasted long as a champion even if he hadn't been arrested shortly thereafter.

Regarding that main event, I still love the moment when Edge took off the biker helmet, as well as the crowd's reaction. They had absolutely hated Edge 30 minutes earlier during the tag match, but they loved him after spearing Cena. It was also nice to see that Edge still hated John Cena and that they still viewed Edge as a main event guy, after being the best heel in the company by a long shot, even after dropping the title back to Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  75. There was talk about going with Lance Storm vs. Booker T instead of Bag well vs. Booker.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I still maintain that One Night Stand 2005 is the best ECW Pay Per View of all-time.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Being in the crowd at that Tacoma Raw was fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  78. There was a rumor floating around that Jericho would be the host

    ReplyDelete
  79. I was at that show and loved every minute of it. You also forgot to mention the legendary Road Dogg/Al Snow hardcore match in the snow. Greatest non ECW show I've ever been too.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I still think they should have had Kurt Angle interfere and cost RVD the title at ONS. They could build the storyline of Angle still being offended by the crucifixion angle and upon being drafted to ECW, trying to destroy them from the inside. Then you roll out the new ECW brand with Angle as the biggest heel ever.

Of course he ended up leaving a month later so it probably wouldn't have mattered.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Today I Learned: When WWF relaunched WCW with the awful Booker T vs. Buff Bagwell match on the July 2, 2001 RAW, it was in Tacoma, WA.

The July 9, 2001 RAW was in Atlanta, GA. Had WWF waited a week, they probably would've gotten an much better crowd response to the return of WCW.

We still got the cool "Return of ECW" moment on July 9 (well, until Stephanie was revealed as the "owner), but again, why not do that on a RAW in Pittsburgh, or Philadelphia, or NYC, or another ECW stronghold?

    ReplyDelete
  82. They were in a hurry

    ReplyDelete
  83. Christian's best music was the Opera intro "At Last"

    ReplyDelete
  84. Sure, but it's hard to argue that he wasn't the most successful WCW-turned-WWE guy post-Invasion.

    ReplyDelete
  85. And they ran Booker vs. DDP the next night at the Smackdown tapings, a much better match.

Vince had to have know Bagwell was a slug. He must've been distracted by his pecs.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Wake me when Brock comes back.

I have no idea why they are saving him for SummerSlam. Brock is RED HOT - use his dates now.

    ReplyDelete
  87. In a hurry? WWF bought WCW in March. They didn't relaunch them until July. That doesn't sound like a hurry. Another week could've been sacrificed for a much better crowd response.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I wish Cena won that match and Heyman raised Cena's hand, grabbed the mic, and said "now this man is EXTREME!" Could you imagine the response"

    ReplyDelete
  89. "Plus, the night after WM last year didn't even go against the Finals of the NCAA."
Yes, it did. Mania 30 took place the first Sunday in April last year, not the last Sunday in March like 31 did.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Playboy has named Noelle Foley as their "InstaCrush" of the week.

    SFW: https://twitter.com/Playboy/status/585148490671595522/photo/1

    ReplyDelete
  91. it's the post invasion thing that also screwed up part of it. The five best guys jumped before WCW was dead. Jericho way before and then the Radicalz. Then the DIDN'T get the rest of the best. They needed, in order of importance, The NWO, Goldberg, Sting, and DDP & Book, maybe a few others to round it out. But without NWO, Goldberg and Sting there was no real point.

    ReplyDelete
  92. If there is any affect that Backlash 2002 had on me last night is I have since had Edge's Rob Zombie theme stuck in my head. It's the opening of the song, followed by the mumbled Rob lyrics, and then it just repeats.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Because that doesn't involve Stephanie.

This is a woman who is delusional enough to think people want to buy her workout video and "Steph! Steph! Steph!" shirts.

If you think Vince was a media whore, he has nothing on his daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  94. After the King of the Ring, they seemed to be in a rush to blow through as many angles as humanly possible in the shortest amount of time possible.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Absolutely. Although if we're counting Hogan, he got another title run and did so by beating HHH.

    ReplyDelete
  96. This is the time of year when they need Brock to sell Network subs. They need to bolster the summer month, not Rumble to Mania, because those months sell themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I get that -- they wanted to set up the Invasion PPV on July 22. But it still seems like awful planning all across the board.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I do think that the WWE version of RVD was a pretty good worker for awhile. He toned down some of the really dumb shit or got rid of it altogether and did a better job of working the remaining stuff into the flow of a match.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Guilty: I loved Hogan - Triple H, fun stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I remember Vince ran some names by the WWF crowd during the simulcast, and Buff got a huge pop. I think that led to his tryout.

My favorite Buff/WWF story was the one Jim Ross told about Judy calling in sick for Buff like he was a kid at school or some shit.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Eh, it's hard to call Hogan a "WCW guy". That title run and return was more so based on WWF 80s nostalgia.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Speaking of that, has there been any release of how those DVDs are doing? Like, I personally think Steph is hot, but I can't imagine many female fans want to partake in a workout that gives them broad shoulders and somehow makes your voice much deeper.

    ReplyDelete
  103. That could have potential.

    ReplyDelete
  104. It was slow and crazy overbooked. But the fans were going crazy for Hogan and popped huge when he won the title. That's what the goal was so mission accomplished.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I know, I just like to point out people who have beaten HHH without doing a job back.

    ReplyDelete
  106. They tried face WCW vs. heel WWF and it was flopping, so they reset.

    ReplyDelete
  107. The thing was, they couldn't get the nWo, Goldberg, Sting, Steiner, Flair, Mysterio, or any of the guys who were on Turner deals. They had one year and MILLIONS owed to them. Nash said in the Outsider shoot he made more money sitting on his couch smoking pot than he would've with what Vince could offer.

DDP was the only one dumb enough to skip out on the Turner deal and jump to WWF, and look how THAT turned out.

    ReplyDelete
  108. TBF http://img28.fansshare.com/photos/katdennings/kat-dennings-thor-lg-580202196.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'd Bang Bang her and Have a Nice Day.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Guiltier: I loved ever moment of Hogan's 2002 run.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Are you being sarcastic or serious? Because I thought it was fucking terrific.

    ReplyDelete
  112. The problem is finding talent. ROH, NXT, and TNA not to mention the AAA and the Japanese promotions have sucked up any talent the WWE doesn't have and NXT is owned by WWE. TNA is pretty much already scraping the bottom of the barrel

    ReplyDelete
  113. I loved how after HHH's huge comeback, he jobs the title a month later to Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'd like the match more - if they hadn't booked Hogan as a helpless old man at 48 years old. I mean it took three armies and a tank to beat Triple H. But I always liked the flow of the match and Hogan with that diamond cutter was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  115. They wouldn't have gotten a better crowd response with that match. Anything involving Bagwell would have gotten a bad response.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Apparently the WWF wrestlers didn't want Bag well to join the company and were miffed when he came in.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Last week's show also caused the lowest rated episode of Better Call Saul, and I think some other stuff had low ratings too. That third hour must have piss a LOT of people off.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Hogan was only 48?! My god...

    ReplyDelete
  119. It was just such a weird period. I really didn't mind the Invasion, but if you knew that you were eventually running an Invasion angle, you probably don't need to turn Austin heel. Rock was going to Hollywood for the next four months anyway. A HHH-Austin feud up until the Invasion would have been okay.
I've heard the idea of a heel Austin and a face HHH but that would have been horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Hogan returned the job to Triple H on the June 4, 2002 Smackdown for the #1 contender spot at King of the Ring 2002. Hunter even kicked out of the legdrop.

    ReplyDelete
  121. No. He jobbed too much. Dude should of won the title, destroyed Chris Beniot and Kurt Angle and the Rock and dropped it to Crock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Wanted to make sure PAL!

    ReplyDelete
  123. No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Austin is so fucking selfish. There are so many wrestlers like Dennis Stamp BEGGING to be booked but he just kind of shrugs it off.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Well that was stupid -- of course the largely WWF audience was going to cheer WWF guys.

    ReplyDelete
  126. See I would rebook it completely the opposite. I think for the first time, the money could have been in the chase with Hulk. He lost to Rock in a hard fought contest and everybody loved him for it. I'd have put HHH over him (not cleanly) to make the story be "does Hulk still have it?" Then let him triumph later in a big babyface moment.

    ReplyDelete
  127. They should cycle through guys.

One week it's Jericho, the next it's Rock and then BAM! It's Iron Mike Sharpe.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Benoit and Triple H were hurt and the midcard was stale. Remember that the other feuds going on before the Invasion were Big Show and Trish vs the Hardyz and Lita and APA vs Dudleys. Not exactly appointment television.

    ReplyDelete
  129. That Tacoma Raw was the most fun I've ever had at a wrestling show. After getting screwed at WrestleMania for the second straight year, I thought it made more sense for The Rock to join WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  130. If he was really born on August 11, 1953 - then yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  131. It is probably the case where the WWE was hoping that Austin's loyalty would have caused him to come in at the last minute instead of him handling it like a businessman and negotiate some type of role beforehand. I get the sense the WWE often contacts people at the last minute hoping they are desperate enough for some kind of role.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Isn't she banging that dude that goes to WWE shows dressed as a clown?

    ReplyDelete
  133. His tag team with Edge was fun as hell

    ReplyDelete
  134. It's fucking crazy because the guy has looked SOOO old.

Of course, even when he was in his 20s, he looked like he was 40.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Are they just using the NXT hires that are on a training contract?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Nothing wrong with that run at all. He put guys over and was entertaining.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Ironically Booker T is the one person who did alright for himself within the WWE despite being involved in the disastrous first WCW in WWF match.

    ReplyDelete
  138. It doesn't take much since ECW jumped the shark in July of 97 and every PPVS after Barely Legal didn't have the feel or realness of true ECW. And Barely Legal is the best ECW PPV ever. The One Night Stands were WWF PPVs.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I thought John Cena was dating a Bella?

    ReplyDelete
  140. Exactly, so that's why all of the sudden Shane was a heel and Vince was a face.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Oklahoma tried this too. Thankfully (surprisingly?) it did not pass. Gotta love my home state.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Yeah, it did make a lot more sense. I love the moment when Rock says "FIIIINALYYY, The Rock has returned....to the WWF" and JR losing his shit afterwards. But I'd trade that for a better booked storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I haven't seen any numbers, but I can't imagine that they're great.

First of all, how many female fans are there in the first place? And not to be stereotypical, how many of those female fans are in good shape or want to be in good shape? And of those that are in either category, how many are going to think that a Stephanie McMahon workout DVD is the way they're going to lose weight and get in shape? I mean, most women want to lose weight, not add bulk.

Stephanie isn't quite a bodybuilder, but she has more bulk on her than the swimsuit model shape that most women trying to get in shape tend to go for.

    ReplyDelete
  144. We're there in Virginia. Just need to pass a background check.

    ReplyDelete
  145. ONS '06 is one of my favorite wrestling shows ever, and I never liked ECW.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Not guiltier. I despised Undertaker's 2002 run.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Likewise, it was a great run. He had some dream matches, put some guys over huge, and then settled into a nice role as a tag team guy. It was fantastic, I was sad when he left. No one did more for Bock Lesnar than Hulk putting him over HUGE before Summerslam.

    ReplyDelete
  148. What's going on with Hulk Hogan's hair?

It's blond and yet it's silken,

like that of a Chinese man.

    Ah yes

Uh, that is Hulk Hogan's signature's look.

    Blonde, Chinese hair

And skin of a hot dog.

    ReplyDelete
  149. All I know is it is coming back and is on USA.

    ReplyDelete
  150. RVD could be great when he had someone like Eddie Guerrero to lead him. I wish he got a longer match with Shawn Michaels on PPV, and had more chemistry with Jericho who they paired him with all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  151. The Rock was also filming a movie I think too, so I can see that point. Still, I would've held off a week and re-launched WCW in Atlanta. Maybe devote the July 2 RAW to hyping the July 9 one with a good chunk of it using WCW video packages.

    ReplyDelete
  152. It'll confuse the government when they come to take alllll the guns

    ReplyDelete
  153. Brock running Hulk's blood through his chest like a conquering warrior was fucking amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Instead of building momentum after Wrestlemania, WWE created separation with the fan base.

    ReplyDelete
  155. They should have brought in Bischoff to be the guy running the WCW invasion. It's amazing how badly they blew it. The company has never recovered

    ReplyDelete
  156. I was sold on Brock 100% after that, that match might just Heyman's greatest masterpiece. It was like an old SNME match mixed with an ECW match or something, it was fucking awesome. Sometimes star ratings just don't work.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Huh, I have no memory of that.

Hogan did quite a few jobs though, Rocky, Taker, Brock. Not bad for Cunt Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I think waiting 6 months at a minimum for the relaunch would have been better

    ReplyDelete
  159. The only PPV that really stands out after Barely Legal for orignal ECW was Heatwave 98.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Nah, and that's the thing with Hogan's run. None of his matches were **** but the heat was amazing. That's more important than having a **** match than no storyline, no build, and no one caring. That happens a lot today.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Cunt? He jobbed out his ass for that 2002 run -- you forgot to mention tapping to Kurt Angle at King of the Ring too -- and ended it by teaming with Edge and giving him a big rub.

You can hate on Hulk Hogan for a lot of things, but he really did a lot to put over guys in 2002.

    ReplyDelete
  162. And how many of those don't just go to Youtube for free, that Hulu workout program, yoga class, etc. Who's buying workout DVDs?

    ReplyDelete
  163. Although Vince spent much of late 1997 through 2001 being the ultimate heel.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Give her the Mandibal Claw!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Well, a lot of them were also against the WCW guys in general because they didn't want to lose their spots.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Oh, hey you have Trish Stratus and her yoga RIGHT THERE.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I just call him that because it's pretty much his official name on OSW Review. After seeing the original Hulkamania era again, I understand why.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I've argued all across the Internet for 20 years about RVD and how great I think he is, at least his ECW run anyways. Not sure why what I saw is different from A LOT of other wrestling fans.

    ReplyDelete
  169. That's because it was a WWF PPV.

    ReplyDelete
  170. The entire Invasion angle was made in a hurry. The big Summer angle was to be Heel Austin vs Face HHH, but HHH blew his quad and that went down the toilet.
As for WCW, I've heard they were trying to get it back on tv, but no network was willing to touch the brand with a 10-inches pole even with the WWF name behind. It wouldn't be untill 2004 that TNA got a TV deal, so It's reasonable to assume that Wrestling in general wasn't considered a wanted TV copmmodity by the networks for several years. I think they toyed with the idea of rebranding Smackdown to Nitro, but decided just doing the invasion angle.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Oh you gotta be shitting me...the guy who accused me of being dougie is Vince Jordan? Too funny

    ReplyDelete
  172. My favorite is his "Blood Brother" theme from when he was in the Brood. WWF The Music Vol. 4 I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Agreed, that one stands out. I will argue that some of the late 2000 PPVs, like Massacre on 34th Street, were good too but by then ECW was a totally different company.

    ReplyDelete
  174. The whole thing is probably her taking HGH and doing squats with HHH.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I've never understood why they didn't wait at least 6 months before relaunching WCW. People forget just how damaged the brand was

    ReplyDelete
  176. I said this before in the thread but face HHH vs. heel Austin would have been terrible. I think that would have been enough to stop me watching sooner than I did.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Another unarmed black dude gets shot by a police officer and then this dude is caught on camera dropping something next to the body. For fuck's sake.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Agreed. That was my favorite show of 2006, with only Unforgiven 2006 coming close. Just too much fun.

    ReplyDelete
  179. " So in a way it came full circle and turned into what people wanted out of the "new" ECW all along. " *mind blown*

    ReplyDelete
  180. Exactly! And that's even sold through WWE's Shop!

I imagine women want to look like Trish more than they want to look like Steph.

    ReplyDelete
  181. People can rip on Hogan all they want but they forget all the good work he did when he came back that year.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I think the Cubs are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I get all that, but my point is that even if they were going to stick to the Invasion PPV plan why not re-launch WCW in its hometown?

When WWE revived ECW for the first two One Night Stand PPVs, they did it in NYC -- one of the original's big strongholds -- not in Oklahoma.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I remember Heyman freaking out because Brock didn't take him seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  185. If this is the guy that was pulled over for a traffic stop the cop was charged with murder.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Did have that short face run in 99, then went face again in 2000, part of 2001.

    ReplyDelete
  187. A post Mania Raw main event featuring Lesnar would be huge to keep interest going.

    ReplyDelete
  188. The Nike NCAA champs t-shirts are awful, and awfully lame. The scissor cutting the net one.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Yup. Hence why Stephanie is delusional in thinking there is an audience out there for her workout DVD and Steph t-shirts. On top of that, Steph t-shirts also come in MALE sizes.

This is the company that can't make an "RKO OUTTA NOWHERE!" shirt for months when it's a well-known internet meme, but can get a "Steph! Steph! Steph!" shirt out a month after she turns heel.

I've turned the corner on star ratings, particularly Meltzer's. Because over the last ten years or so I've sat through matches he claimed were **** or better, and yet the crowd sat on their hands, the action felt robotic and scripted and I found myself drifting off or fast-forwarding. All the elements have to work for me, and a great story and hot crowd will trump a technically worked "classic" with no heat or purpose everytime.

  193. Homina homina homina...

    ReplyDelete
  194. That's the thing, they wanted to take their time to bring back WCW, but then HHH got hurt and they went into panic mode.
