  2. So, finally read Morrison's Ultra Comics. I can't decide how much I love it, but it's pretty great. It's also the weirdest thing I've read in a while.

    Hughes by a mile.

Bulldog was a relic but he at least had matches.

  35. When I was a kid the Hindenberg was like THE disaster. Ships sink, trains derail, planes crash, but an airship blowing up was like something out of science fiction. But I think since then with space shuttles blowing up, Titanic becoming a romantic movie, and 9/11... the Hindenberg has been somewhat forgotten. I still think the live radio narration as it happened is one of the most heartbreaking & human bits of journalism ever.

  46. I'm 50/50 on it. It could just be a coincidence that stupid people latched onto and drew all sorts of flimsy connections to turn it into a conspiracy.

On the other hand, it's totally the sort of petty bullshit Vince goes for and Cena wouldn't say no to doing it in order to satisfy Vince's spite-boner, so who knows?

  49. Yeah, but Vince is really only interested in the kind of controversy he can manufacture, which isn't all that controversial.

  51. Oh ok. I tend to watch grown up things.
Im kidding. Relax. I still watch the Avengers cartoon.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Then I think R-Truth's suplex stunner he used to do was also a vendetta against Austin. Because reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Quite frankly I thought he was asking about the McMahon family's fine china.

  55. Yeah, but Jews at on point were an ethnic group with power and influence. Gay people didn't. And anybody can be gay, so I don't see how you turn them into some mysterious, strange, other force.

  56. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogApril 19, 2015 at 2:13 PM

Yeah, if they knew they were not going to do Hogan vs. Flair at Mania 8, then why not? Problem is, it wasn't until the Hulk-Flair house show circuit that they decided that was the case, allegedly.

That said, it would have been badass though, if Hogan vs. Flair, "Champion vs. Champion" happened at Survivor Series, with Sid turning heel there instead and making Flair the champ. Do the re-match at Tuesday in Texas, with controversy again. Tunney holds up the title and puts it in the Rumble match. You can still do Hulk vs. Flair at house shows. Build to Hogan-Sid and Flair-Savage, after Ric wins the Rumble like it actually happened

Yeah, Macho had every right to kill the man, let alone attack him backstage.

    ReplyDelete
  62. He wanted to go back to WWE a couple of years ago and they didn't want him back. I'd like to see him back as a commentator in some form, I always thought he was the best commentary partner Cole ever had.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Is it too much to assume that Cena simply wanted to freshen up his moveset?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Seven, according to the Jericho podcast.

    ReplyDelete
  65. That wasn't the point of my email. I wouldn't call a spring board stunner a "pretty simple move" for a guy like Cena.

I'm the dudes biggest fan, but it's not like he's Dean Malenko.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Enough with your way answers!

    ReplyDelete
  67. He did say this on his podcast:

“Obviously it’s reminiscent of the Stone Cold Stunner. Here’s my biggest beef with it – it’s such a dynamic move, and requires such precision and timing. When you hit that move, why don’t you establish it, and get a couple three-counts out of it? Then when Rusev or whoever kicks out, it means something. So, he could have another ace up his sleeve if he’d actually beat people with it. If he had looked further down the road than the short term, he would have had a real, valid, badass finish, rather than just a set-up, which now means nothing.”

    ReplyDelete
  68. as mentioned a few weeks ago, especially the line from Vince is cringeworthy: "that the most revolting thing I've ever seen in my life". uhm... yikes.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have absolutely no interest in this story. The only thing I have less interest in is TNA. Which is why I clicked on this thread because I read all the others.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Nobody said "rapist". What I mean is that for example Rick Rude in the 80s was kind of a straight Goldust who, instead of men, was interested in women. What he did for example in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iz2b0p8XPbM is kind of what Goldust did.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Actually I do have something to add. When Eugene used the stunner occasionally i remember people kicking out if it and I dont even think he finished anyone off with it. Now I know that what his gimmick was, to use famous moves. Did Austin ever bring that up? Because with people kicking out of it he kinda ruined the move.

    ReplyDelete
  72. They started in October, so by Survivor Series they should have had some sort of idea. Flair beats Hogan via countout or DQ thanks to Mr. Perfect. Do the rematch at This Tuesday in Texas, where Did turns on Hogan, costing him the title.

    ReplyDelete
  73. If he were down for it, I'd love to see Austin book a territory. Like, if another Turner bought out TNA and said, "book this like a real wrestling show", although I've heard their booking has been better. Point is, Stone Cold has a pretty sharp mind for the business. But, learning from the Von Erichs and Chris Adams, and guys like Eaton/Arn/Rude/Heyman will do that to you.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Brock debuted when? April? By August he had bested Hogan, won the KOTR and defeated The Rock for the title. I'd call Kurt's stretch more fun to watch though.

    ReplyDelete
  75. But he DIDN'T turn in 1994! It was a SWERVE at Starrcade! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have the Fire Stick, and like it, but wouldn't recommend it. For me it makes sense because I have Prime and my son watches it. But it's also locked down, so unless you're really into Amazon content, I wouldn't do it.

I think Chromecast would be a better buy, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!April 19, 2015 at 5:27 PM

Doesn't sound pissed off to me. Sounds like a logical interpretation of how they're using the move.

    ReplyDelete
  78. absolutely. He made UT look like a good worker for the first time. Previously being stuck with big lugs like Yokozuna, Bundy, Gonzalez, etc. he was limited. And the two smaller guys he worked with were a thoroughly unmotivated IRS and a guy buried deep in a character that created bad matches in Goldust. Otherwise it was big stiff after big stiff.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Actually Halloween Havoc - but much like Orndorff's face turn in 1987 -- I'm convinced the original heel turn was real - but after Kevin Sullian broke the Butcher's face and he turned face as the man with no name - that was when he became buddies with Hogan again to be a spy for the DOD.

    ReplyDelete
  80. And even the Chyna question was handled well by HHH. I just listened to it yesterday and kept waiting for the "controversial" part to come up but it was totally run of the mill. The only thing I can imagine Vince complaining about is that it was too "insider-y."

    ReplyDelete
  81. GORE GORE GORE GORE

    ReplyDelete
  82. Cena might be paying respect to steve or it might be like the rock situation where vince tells John to do this hoping it leads to an angle

    ReplyDelete
  83. I agree steve is very mature and level headed

    ReplyDelete
  84. Now I want to see Eugene vs Damien 666

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm pretty sure Austin mentioned this on his Podcast at one point. "You give one of your workers the stunner and it's Goddamn Eugene!?" or something to that extent. He wasn't actually hot about it from what I recall though, I think he just figured it could have been given to someone higher up the card.

    ReplyDelete
  86. With you 100% on Rocky. I loved him as a heel but once he turned face and his catchphrases became embarrassingly repetitive I tuned out.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I remember watching this show as it happened...May 96, so I was 9 years old. Seeing Ahmed's rage really drew me into him even further. I was already amazed by him when he bodyslammed Yokozuna (seeing that as an 8 year old was pretty much the coolest thing ever), but this solidified him as my favorite for a long time. Too bad about his injuries, I really believe he could have made it to the top, even though you couldn't understand a thing he said on the mic.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I remember the crowd pop to the start of that Ahmed/Vader match and it was like the stuff you would if Austin entered the building in 1998

    ReplyDelete
  89. He's always been awkward in his movements, but he's also always been pretty agile and acrobatic, especially for a guy his size.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Fat, Ugly Inner-City SweathogApril 19, 2015 at 9:17 PM

Yeah and Brock's was more a product of WWE deciding in advance that he was going to be the Next Big Thing and doing everything to make sure that happened.

Angle was more the guy they had high hopes for and by sheer force of awesomeness got himself to the main event faster than even they had hoped

    ReplyDelete
  91. Jump backwards while reaching over your shoulder. It doesn't require a third degree black belt.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Sorry, Cena is not using the stunner anymore than Austin was using the Diamond Cutter, or anymore than Undertaker was using Lawler's pile driver. If Austin (who was great, not a knock on him) was able to do a springboard stunner, I'd at least understand his criticism (though to be fair, I'm pretty sure he doesn't take it seriously in the least) But the springboard makes it a different move.

    ReplyDelete
  93. No dude. This is wrestling. There has to be some kinda conspiracy behind everything because there could not be any other way that Bryan is not champion.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I dunno...I haven't asked him. Hang on, I'll try to Professor X him and see what I can come up with.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I dunno about this card needing a retcon booking. You forget how big a deal Hogan/Undertaker was back in the day. Undertaker had been built up as such an unstoppable monster over his first year in the company that everyone (and my sample group was all of my grade school classmates) was going nuts to see how he'd match up against Hogan.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Hmm I don't know, he does say "here's my biggest beef with it" suggesting that he has more than one problem with it. If you were him at this point you'd have to wonder whether Cena suddenly using the move is a pure coincidence or a sneaky sleight on him

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ahmed was awesome for like a year. So much fun to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Other possible questions on Austin's index cards for the Triple H interview.

"So, Chyna. Ever regret sticking it in there?"
"So, Chyna. That's a dude, right?"
"So, Chyna. You still love her, don't ya?"
"So, Chyna. You were trying to turn Stephanie into her, weren't ya?"
"So, Chyna. You ever accidentally call Steph by her name?"
"So, Chyna. Ever get mad that she got that 'X-Pac heat', if you know what I mean?"

All of those were crossed off. The only one left on the card was:

"So, Chyna. Is she ever getting in the Hall of Fame?"

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oops. I got confused and thought you meant Savage and not Beefer. I apologize.
