Fwd: Jon Jones' Bad Weekend

Tiiiiiiimbeeeerrr!

So, think the fight will still happen?

Enough is enough with this guy.  At the very least they should strip him of the title before he self-destructs completely.  I do think if nothing else they should delay the fight for a while and see how it shakes down for him from a legal standpoint.  Apparently his magical 24 hours in rehab didn't work after all.

Not stripping him of the title is bullshit. If he can no longer handle the responsibility of being a champion, let someone else step up and take it. I don't care how big of a cash cow he is. At some point he becomes more of a liability than an asset.

  2. I. Wait. You don't care how much of a cash cow he is, but you think that UFC should cash in with some more fights til he loses it?

    ReplyDelete
  3. If he's guilty? I think you have to strip him. For the sport, and for his own well being.

    Then have a big tournament!

  4. Super casual mma fan.

How bad could this be PR wise for ufc?
    Estimation

  5. I'm super casual and I don't care. Most of the outrage will probably come from people that have never watched a fight before.

No I think he should be stripped and then either hold a tournament for the vacant title or have the top two contenders fight for the title. The whole division shouldn't suffer just because the champion fucked up.

  7. I dunno. Jones is seen as a villain already so I'm not sure it'll matter.

In regards to mainstream, I doubt it'll really have an impact. We live in an age where athletes do something stupid daily.

  8. Well after reading what he did, I got intrigued.

I remember the rvd/sabu incident and at the time rvd was being groomed as a top guy, and you know how hard he got punished.

I was just wondering since ufc/wwwe comingle if dana would do the same thing or worse since this is one of his top guys

    ReplyDelete
  9. Even with the RVD thing, who was really outraged? I'm sure the sponsors were worried but I doubt the average fan cares enough to get pissed off.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Okay, just seeing what the deal was.

    ReplyDelete
  11. True.

So you feel the fans that buy in arent really gonna have a feeliway.ing either way.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I thought this was a comic book thread.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think UFC fans will be happy if Jones loses his title and goes away. Not sure if he's much of a draw as he's kinda hated since he's got some douchey tendencies.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'd just have an interim champion and give Jones time to clean himself up - look thoughtful about his obvious problem and sell a huge redemption fight.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Don't worry. Rumble Johnson is going to kick the shit out of him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. He may not get a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  17. PR wise, it shouldn't matter a whole lot. His first cocain offense was just kind of swept under the rug. The UFC is full of criminals.

    ReplyDelete
  18. True. Dana may panic and strip him of the belt. Then we'll get Rumble vs. Someone for the Interim Belt in May, setting up a unification bout once (if?) Jones gets his shirt together.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The only time Jones has ever been in any danger (besides to himself) was against a guy who was his size, and Jones still won that fight decisively. Rumble is awesome, but until someone actually kicks Jones' ass, I'm not picking against him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm not so sure about that. At all. Rumble has never been pushed like Jon has. I don't know how he'll react at 205 being put in the kinds of situations Jones would put him in.

Anyway, Jon needs to get his head screwed on straight before he throws his amazing career away, if he hasn't already.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Heels sell in MMA. That's the main reason Brock was such a draw.

Jon's not close to that drawing level, but he's definitely a bigger draw than anyone not named GSP or Silva. Maybe Rousey.

    ReplyDelete
  22. A lot of people said Cormier would beat him, too, and he couldn't even put up a decent fight.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd hate to see this guy become a self-destructive bust, but I think training and fighting is keeping him together more than hurting him. Take that away, and you have a guy who likes to party with a lot of money and a lot of time on his hands. THAT is dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  24. He's one of the best fighters in history. I love watching him in the octagon, and I'd hate seeing him go.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jones could then walk around with a replica title saying he never lost it. Then they can debut the first ever UFC ladder match. How awesome would a "shoot" ladder match be? They can't print enough money for that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's what I am trying to get at.

If Dana strips him, will t hurt UFC, or will fans rejoice cuz he is not a draw.

Again, I dont know who is who, but I am legit curious to gain some perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  27. $2500? He could pay that with the money he stuffed in his undies.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'd like to see Rumble knock his ass down too, but Jones is a beast himself. Can't count him out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If they do nothing (or slap him on the wrist again), the PR reaction could be nasty. They already have a bit of an image problem with the drugs and past criminal acts from the boys, and this would be a big glob of whip cream and cherries on the shit sundae.

    ReplyDelete
  30. "Enough is enough with this guy."

    IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's very important to get your shirt together as well. Can't downplay such a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Star athletes using THE DRUGS?!?! I. AM. SHOCKED.

You just described a LOT of pro athletes.

  34. It's official, Jones has been suspended by the UFC and stripped of the title. It'll be Johnson vs. Cormier at the next PPV to determine who will be the next LHW champ.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Cormier? Didn't Jones kick his ass?

Granted, if we eliminate everyone Jones has beaten from contention, the fight will be Dana White v. me, but still.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh, gotcha. I totally agree with this!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Fighters aren't role models. I honestly don't care. I don't understand why we expects guys whose claim to fame is being able to beat anyone else up better than anyone else in the world to live up to some sort of moral code. I wouldn't strip him of the belt no matter what (unless he is cheating and I dont count using cocaine as cheating), but society seems to disagree and seems to think fighters should be role models. Its BS in my opinion. Mike Tyson was awesome because he wasn't a role model.
