If You Liked...Daredevil (TV Series)

Hey Scott,

I don't know if you've had a chance to check out the new Daredevil show on  Netflix yet, but it's fantastic. I've seen very few people complain about it, honestly. As of now, I'm only two episodes in and I'm already hooked.

Anyway, I thought you or others might be interested in a new blog post I made. I'm making a bunch of comic book recommendations for 'ol Hornhead. I know we've many people here are comic book aficionados, so they might find it interesting. (Also, because there's a lot to cover, this is Part 1; I'll be posting Part 2 next Sunday).

It's on the list, fear not.  I wish I would have had Netflix and all these awesome shows back when I was single and had time to do stuff like marathon 2 seasons of 24 over three days.

  1. Daredevil is one Marvel book that I never purchased even once, and I gave most of them a shot at some point or another. I even bought an issue or Terror Inc.

Just couldn't support the idea of a blind, (essentially) powerless super hero. Now if he could fly, and shoot cosmic energy from his dead eye sockets? Then I would have been on board.

  2. The last run, with Foggy getting cancer and everyone moving to San Francisco, was pretty great actually. I had never tried it before either and it totally hooked me.

  3. Man, I've just never had the capacity to binge watch. I don't know if my attention span is lacking or what, but I cannot watch more than an episode or two before having to do something else.

  4. For me, it depends on the show, but even if I really enjoy something, I tap out at 2 or 3 hours. I need to do stuff.

  5. The blind, powerless superhero angle is what makes it work. DD gets beat up a lot and has to really think his way through a situation. In the hands of the right writer, it's incredible.

  6. Well fuck, first 4 game of thrones eps have leaked. Now the debate to watch them this afternoon and have a month's wait for 5

Now I feel guilty for watching entire seasons in one sitting -_-

  8. I'm skeptical, I always liked my heroes pretty blasty. I think that I will give this show a shot though, I really like most of the MCU stuff.

That's if I can get a moment in to watch. Most of my Netflixing is Curious George based.

  9. You have to understand that he's more a street level hero. Possibly more street level than Batman. The whole point of his blindness is that it adds an incredibly interesting layer than almost no other superhero has. His other senses become super-heightened as a result and that leads to some incredibly interesting stories and moments, like being a human lie detector or being able to track or pick up clues through scent.

He's definitely a low-powered superhero, no doubt. But that never stopped Batman from being interesting either, did it?

  10. Which, as my blog post says, there's been a LOT of great writers/creative teams that have showcased exactly that.

  11. Mark Waid's entire run has been a complete joy. Which I liked the more noir runs that other writers have done with him over recent years, Waid's run has been a breath of fresh air while most of the rest of comics and superhero stuff is darker and grittier.

  12. Same here. I'm good for about 90 minutes or so before I'm bored.

  13. I love Waid's run on DD so much. It's been consistently entertaining and chugging along for years without enough press. I hope the show gets a lot of people to try it out.

  14. I'm lucky if I can get through a whole hour long episode of anything. Especially if it requires me to pay actual attention and not do anything else at the same time. Hence why it's 2015 and I still haven't finished all of Breaking Bad.

  15. Oh fuck dude I feel your pain. Nothing quite like 15 hours of work with "Christmas Monkey" stuck in your head.

  16. I've always liked DD and people are all raving about this one. Gonna have to get into this. Shows like this I assume you have to get in on the ground floor and after missing the early days of Gotham and Arrow I wanna ride this one out.

  17. It gets a LOT of love within the industry itself, that's for sure. Every comic book store I go into has it prominently displayed, usually as a staff pick. It was the best selling comic at one store because the owner pushed it so hard on everyone.

  18. I'm not usually one for binge watching. It depends on the show. I did it with the first few seasons of 24.

  19. This is a much faster starter and a much higher ceiling than Gotham or Arrow.

  20. I've always enjoyed Daredevil more when his sanity was falling apart. I remember as a kid reading random issues of my Dads comic collection and finding one that was DD in street clothes having a fist fight with the Kingpin, at that point it was probably the most violent thing I'd seen in a Marvel comic.

  21. Can't do it either. I get figity.

I'm the opposite. I'm a binge watching son of a birch. I don't have the patience to follow something on a weekly basis.

  28. This show was so good that I wish I could unwatch it just so I could watch it for the first time again.

  29. I'm the same way. One hour long episode, or very occasionally two, and I'm done for that sitting.

  30. That'd be Born Again, which I linked to in my article. :)

  31. Just finished the series and it deserves every bit of the hype. Their take on the Kingpin is phenomenal.
