Most ****+ matches

> Hi Scott
>
> Fairly simple question (I hope) but for all the crap Cena gets, I suspect he's had as many four star or higher matches than most, thanks to a combination of longevity, his actual ability and the fact that he's regularly wrestled some of the best in the business over the past decade.

> I wondered if you could list the top ten wrestlers measured by how many four stars or higher matches they've had by your ratings, if its easy to produce in excel. If not, is this info easily available from Meltzer? Or is this something for Ask411?

Asking for a SPREADSHEET is the exact opposite of a simple question.

Ric Flair is always the answer.

Don't be such a baby Keith. Trawl through 20 years of reviews and tally an answer goddammit!

  3. Flair's run of having ****+ matches with anybody was 83ish to 96ish, so about 13 years.

Cena's run of having ****+ matches with anybody is 05ish to date. So that's 10 years and counting.

During Cena's run however there have been far more PPVs and the champion was in big matches on tv far more often.

So it could conceivably be argued that Cena has had more **** matches that have been taped than Flair.

  4. hes a jam up guy!

  5. Scott, while you're at it? Can we get it in an Access database and a PowerPoint presentation of the highlights? Thanks!

  6. I was going to email Scott, but I may as well ask you guys. Was Khali ever in a good match?

  7. Didn't somebody already compile all of Scott Keith's ****+ matches a few years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Didn't Cena drag a *** match out of him at a PPV?

    ReplyDelete
  9. He had a decent one against Cena at one of the Extreme Rules PPVs

  12. Now all we need is for someone to go through the list and tally up the competitors. Should only take a few hours.

  13. Khali VS Triple H at SummerSlam 2008 was decent.

  15. I'd still take a *** HBK match over a ****+ Cena match any day.

  16. I wonder who has participated in the most negative star matches?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I... don't think it's Flair.

It's more likely to be Benoit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I actually thought his cage match with Batista was fun. And he he okay matches with Cena, plus a good squash match with Flair.

  19. I decided to quickly count up the Cena/Flair **** matches based on the archive.
I'm ignoring Rumble matches & Battle Royals, as all the competitors aren't listed.
    Cena-16 matches
    Flair-39 matches

  20. Benoit has more than Cena right?

The emailer should send this question to Ask411 and make sure to mention to Sforcina that Scott refused to answer the question. That should rile up the retched refuse over there.

  22. Let's look at some other guys ****+ matches
    HBK- 46 matches
    Bret- 31 matches
    Benoit - 53 matches

  23. Check out the lost Carolina classics at jimcornette.com. There's more ****+ Flair matches on there than Cena's ever had.

  24. But Flair did it every single night. Not just the big shows.

And while cena pulled a watchable match out khali, he wasn't traveling the territories working every top guy in the country (sans wwf) and even giving the George souths of the world ***+ matches.

Taking nothing away from Cena but its comparing apples and oranges.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'd go *** for the previously mentioned Triple H-Khali match too

Cena's in the great worker caste. He's just at the bottom of the great worker caste.

"Is he better than Cena" is not a bad way to grade someone's match quality.

  27. In both cases however, I think it's fair to say Khali wasn't the driving force behind the high rating.

It's like claiming crediting Marilyn Monroe for the "All About Eve" Oscar win.

  28. But what about Raven?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Khali even dragged Jericho down to a DUD match in 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What am I missing? I don't see a list there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ric Flair wrestled a single **** match thousands of times. It's impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Apparently he had 6 ****+ matches

    ReplyDelete
  33. You need to click on the company names at the top to see the matches by federation.

I'm more curious about the other guys that don't get credit for their amount of good matches: Taker, Bulldog, Luger etc.

  37. 5 for Kevin Nash. all involving Bret or Shawn.

  38. Wow that is one hell of a reference!

    ReplyDelete
  39. It depends. Cena vs Orton iron man ok (if that hit 4 stars). Cena/brock/Rollins not quite.

    ReplyDelete
  40. He had an okay-ish no DQ one with Cena at ONS '07 (although there was this one hilarious spot that sticks with me, where he did a kick to Cena that missed by a fucking mile) and another one with HHH a year later
