Owen Hart as the Game

Hi Scott,

I've heard a couple of times over the years that Owen Hart was originally going to get the "Game" Gimmick. Is there any truth to it? If so, was it the same "Beat everyone with a Sledge and win the World Time forever etc..." gimmick?

Never heard that one, but I assume he would call them on their cell phone and pretend to be Stu Hart, then get the pin when they're distracted.

  1. What is The Game gimmick anyway? I could be wrong but it only works with HHH because of the friends he made/woman he married/way he played the game. Wouldn't make sense for anyone else to take that moniker

I've watched Season 1 of Dareville and I gotta say, I am NOT impressed...The whole idea of a blind guy that can sort of see and was trained in MMA and parkour by another blind guy is pretty ridiculous...Murdock and his partner work on like 2 or 3 cases and then just argue the rest of the time...The whole Fisk/Vanessa, bad guy meets classy girl that he's honest with b.s. has been done to death...The fight scenes are repetive and obviously choreographed...The only reason I watched the show is because the guy that plays Daredevil played Owen on a REAL good show, Boardwalk Empire...

How do you win World Time?

  4. Yeah, I was going to say. Are we defining the Game as leader of DX? Or Being the boss of the New Age Outlaws, but not X-Pac because he was Kliq? I always thought it was just a good promo. Don't hate the player, hate the game, etc.

Would this be like saying, "I heard Val Venis was supposed to get the Austin 3:16 gimmick"?

I think Val could've pulled off the 3:16 gimmick better than Austin...I think the WWE would've been much more successful had they given Val the 3 :16 gimmick and Austin the porn star gimmick...Val deserved a mainevent push and he was always a much better worker than Austin..

I always saw this as 'They were going to nickname him 'the Game'', and i'm sure the act wouldn't have evolved anything like Trips' character.

  11. Yes Scott you DO have to watch Daredevil. I LOVE the Battlin' Jack Murdock throwbacks. The biggest problem with the Daredevil and Green Lantern movies was they jumped right into the action too much. I think a slower build with more of the origin would have worked better since fans they are introducing the characters. Mark Waid's Daredevil remains awesome for Marvel.

  12. Pranking Ambrose with an exploding TV would have been silly. Thank god THAT never happened...

  13. I just sent a question to Scott and realised how dumb it was. So I hope it gets chosen just so I can get ridiculed and shamed.

  14. Was "The Game" really a gimmick? "Greenwich Blue Blood" is a gimmick.

  15. The Game is definitely a HHH creation; that's from his mind, not from Vince, Russo, et al. Owen had as much as a chance being the Game like Terry Taylor did becoming Mr Perfect.

From what I recall, it was a one off comment from an interview with Jim Ross that caught fire .

  17. which proves they should have JR on the pay roll to do those sit down interviews if nothing else. Foley and Hunter both had huge payoffs from those ross sit downs and that is just off the top of my head.

  20. Exactly. "The Game" seems more like just a nickname to me.

  21. Why the secrecy, WWE?! RELEASE THE MEDICAL RECORDS OR WE
RIOT. We can't continue with this level of speculation and uncertainty.

The throwback scenes were the only good parts of the show....Everything else is just a bunch of Matrix/Jackie Chan style fight scenes bunched in there...

  23. I'm curious as to why you bothered to watch all 13 episodes if you were that unimpressed?

  24. There was nothing Matrix nor Jackie Chan about any of the fight scenes in this show.

  25. Indeed. Nice and gritty/brutal.

  26. This show is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe what Marvel Knights was to the comics. It's the most adult on-screen translation of a comic character for Marvel since Punisher: War Zone (a movie which could easily exist in the same universe as this show). The pacing is slow, which could turn off some, and the plot isn't overly complicated. They establish a setting in which crime is on the rise in the wake of the Avengers battle of New York. The actions & motivations of the villains are clear & not cartoony, with much groundwork laid for one of the upcoming Marvel shows, as well as potential future seasons. Most of the characters are given time to be fleshed out, and by season's end show depth and imperfection due to questionable morals and actions. The writing is solid, the casting good, and the acting top-notch, with Scott Glenn nearly stealing the show with his brief time on the show, and Vincent D'Onofrio absolutely terrific as Wilson Fisk. The action and fight scenes are good: the fight in the 2nd episode already being hailed as one of the best ever on television (if that's what you count Netflix as). The producers were clearly respectful of the source material, without being slavish to it. You can see bits & pieces of many Daredevil stories in this show, yet it's a tight, fresh take that avoids the lethargy and simple aping of comic visuals that the Affleck Daredevil movie suffered from. Overall I can't recommend this show enough.
