Raw on the network

> Hey Scott,
> Have you heard any scuttlebutt on the new raw dump? They put up every 98 raw which is a good thing in a vacuum but it makes me wonder if/when they finish off 96 and do 97. Also since these raws are in a different section it makes me wonder if they will disappear like all the great black history month programs. For such a great service the lack of any information about archive updates can get frustrating.

The scuttlebutt seems to be that the dump is permanent, but who the hell knows?  Missing all of 97 sets off my wrestling OCD, but I'll take whatever j can get.

  1. I'm hoping this isn't another petty attempt at trolling the fanbase, but with this fucking company you never know anymore. It's pretty universally accepted that 1997 and 2000 were the two best years EVER for RAW (and 97 arguably for wrestling period), and the majority of WWE Network subscribers are hardcore fans who want that content, so Vince... cut the shit and give us 97. I would actually resubscribe for that.

  2. Ah, so Dana will give GSP/Silva 4 years after the fact.

  3. His promo to set up the Jericho stuff at Wrestlemania was surprisingly really good.

  4. SAbu isn't terribly good in the ring either

Ambrose has the worst luck with appliances

  6. I thought it was better than any of the Steamboat matches I saw. Now I realize they had a ton of them so I could have missed a full monty classic but yeah, up to that point in his career I think it was his best singles match.

Maybe they want to upload all the 1997 RAWs and Nitros at the same time, they just jumped to filling out '98 b/c it's a free month and they only thing they remember ever being successful was the goddamn Attitude Era that I'm actually starting to get REALL GODDAMN SICK OF to be honest with you. But that would make some sense at least.

    ReplyDelete
  8. They probably do make a profit on it, just LESS of a profit then they make running other venues

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hasn't changed much today. THEDEMONKANE with a devastating chokeslam!

    ReplyDelete
  10. At least they had Scott Hall put him over as a buddy and a Caribbean wrestling hero. It didn't really work, but you can't say they didn't try. It didn't work for Steve Blackman either, and I was hoping he'd get push to the title.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Honestly, I'm just glad I got to see a Wrestlemania at MSG before they stopped running there; amazing atmosphere.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Steve Blackman as a Caribbean wrestling hero would have been amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Given how nationally popular the UFC is now (more than boxing...i think it's safer than boxing too) it's kind of absurd that shit isn't legal in New York

    ReplyDelete
  14. They haven't omitted everything. The addition of all of the '98 Raws was a separate thing altogether from the (admittedly too sporadic) regular Raw updates.

    ReplyDelete
  15. When he cared, he actually was very good - one guy's opinion I guess -.....thing is, he talked zero.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I never got that either. I got the whole Sunny making an idiot out of PIG - it was stupid - but I got it. I never got a man dressed up in drag as Sunny in spite of Vince thinking drag queens were en vogue or something. All I know is the Gunn break up within six months or less after this because of Sunny breaking up with them. I'm still shocked Billy has some nastilgia value while Mike Barton is forgotten - outside of Butterbean.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Maybe, but Austin did cut a pretty good promo after Beware of Dog - where he dogged the Lex Express and said he could go around the country on a bus whuppin butt.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can't agree. I've never loved that strap match anyway, but I'd take almost any of his Steamboat matches, or the Pillman match from COTC over this one.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I can't wait to finally relive those cowardly WCW losers piss their pants in fear of Triple H's tank!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nassau is shutting down soon for a remodeling where they are going to cut down capacity, guaranteeing that the Islanders will never move back

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well if you never liked it that would make sense. I thought it was close to a ***** match with some really stiff stuff. It was the first time I saw the Austin I remembered seeing in WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That's not what I meant, but yeah you got a point.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love Barclays Center, but it's no MSG, it's smaller and doesn't have the historical vibe. But mSG is way too much to run

    ReplyDelete
  24. chase bridge should be open for wrestling. The Madison club is probably shut because it would likely be behind the ramp

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dolan for the Knicks has been an abomination, h even ran out Marv Albert as the voice of the Knicks. For the Rangers, it helps having Glen Sather run the team

    ReplyDelete
  26. My crazy theory: they are competing with HBO NOW. Seriously, I subscribed Saturday and was thinking today that WWE really needs to step up it's game if they're gonna keep getting my money.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They also added two from October 96.

I just wish they'd STICK TO A FUCKING SCHEDULE.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I was a bit of a Steve Blackman Mark in 2000-01

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought Austin's best match in WCW was at Fall Brawl 94 against Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just turned on one of the attitude Raw's for the first time in ages (March 9, 1998) and wow, just in the opening with the crowd shots is night and day from today. It seems like everyone has a sign and they are all AMPED to be there. They also go nuts for a lot of the baby faces, instead of, you know, sitting on their hands and falling asleep. Makes the shows seem more exciting and important.

  31. ATTITUDE ERA ATTITUDE ERA

    ReplyDelete
  32. I wish that term was never coined.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The WWE's focus on Great Moments is a real pain. Great Moments are great moments because something built up to them. Austin stunning McMahon only matters because of the long build! I mean sure everyone wants to see the DX tank, but we have to see that long build of HHH ascending to heaven and getting the idea from $DEITY.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ATTITUDE ERA! ATTITUDE ERA! At this point I wish that term was never even coined.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I still wished WCW had called the outsiders: Scott "Shaver" Hall and "Big Premium" Kevin Nash.

    ReplyDelete
  36. His later music was so cool. He wasn't that horrible either. I mean he wasn't ufc material - but I liked the guy. Front stance, low block.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The network banks upon the model of "I'll take what I can get."

    ReplyDelete
  38. I used to have two matches of Hogan squashing Tito from 1980. One had the tones of Graham and Rudman - two of my favorite announcers.

    ReplyDelete
  39. What would have happened if they had given Ron Simmons the Dang gimmick in 1998? World champion baby! Unless the rumors concerning Vince and the WWF title are true.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Butch Reed was dressed for down town Detroit. Jesse Ventura, 1987

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hard to imagine they ran a Wrestlemania at the Hartford Civic Center

    ReplyDelete
  42. One of the greatest promos I ever heard had to be Buddy Landell from probably 1988-89 during a quick cup of coffee return. "I bet some promoter went to a gym and said - I think I'll name that muscle bound idiot Sting and name the other guy Lex Luger."

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Nation of Contsipation?

    ReplyDelete
  44. For people who these 90's Raws are new to, uploading 1998 and skipping 1997 is like seeing Empire Strikes Back but never seeing Star Wars.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Titan Sinking, the book on 1995, says they weren't making money back then. So that's 20 years.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Im kinda sick of "wrestlemania moment" too. I hope nobody took a drink everytime they said it at WM. It used to be a cool thing that just happened.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Their uploading definitely makes no sense. It's like they panicked and realized they didn't have Attitude Era Raws on there so they add them all at once...where if they had just stuck to a schedule of uploading 5 a week like they had in the beginning, they would probably be just about through all of 1998 by now anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah kind of but they dont say it after literally every move someone does like Vince did.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If this corporation were actually a person it would be committed for insanity. Hard to believe there are people actually investing real money in it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Why the hell they didn't just put everything in chronological order? One can start watching around late 96 when the "attitude" started to seep in with Russo's booking of tweeners and anti-social rhetoric. Then go through all 97 and understand where the real Attitude Era came from.

Anyone who watched KFB Cornette's WWE 1997 timeline would understand.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Me too. I hate it. And frankly, the so-called "attitude" was kinda lowbrow and lame for the most part. I remember that era for the "anything can happen" aspect to it and the fact that it had the deepest roster of any era with the most exciting (and sometimes death-defying) matches ever. I don't remember it for Mark Henry having sex with Mae Young or Val Venis being castrated.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Watching from "FRUSTRATED ISN'T THE GODDAMN WORD FOR IT!" gets the full Attitude Era experience, but that was Bret and not DX. You can see the bind they're in.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Can you imagine what would happen if the NY Knicks started an on demand network and a year later still didn't have any games from the years that they made the finals?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Let me have my dreams!

    ReplyDelete
  55. That's the EXACT start of that era. Totally agree.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That's what mlw radio says also that it's very expensive to run and it's not maintained well backstage

    ReplyDelete
  57. Fair enough. The MeloDrama followed by the Dwightmare...now we are struggling to make the playoffs

    ReplyDelete
  58. That was exactly the experience for a lot of Americans, though. Ratings went up big time in 98, with tons of new eyes on the product that likely didn't see the 97 stuff.

Not that I'm defending WWE's idiotic uploading, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Eh, it was entertaining. And like DoctorEw said, the fans were EXCITED to see wrestling. That never seems to be the case now.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'll come back if they put up the 97 shows.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Trust me I know. I watched the 1997 Royal Rumble alone. My friends were like "you STILL watch wrestling???" For the 1998 Rumble, those same friends were all over my house with Austin 3:16 or DX shirts on.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Most of it was. But it's a shame that that era is more remembered for the "shock TV" aspect then the wrestling. People who weren't watching at the time probably think that all Rock did was cut funny promos. He was actually a GREAT wrestler.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I can't stand it. Just let things happen naturally. If they are memorable they will be remembered for years on end. Christ.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I don't mind it as a retrospective thing. Like when coming back from commercial in the weeks leading up to WM there's a clip that's like "And now....the Wrestlemania moment of the week" and it shows Hogan slamming Andre or whatever. That's cool. But yeah...when JBL is rambling on about "this is a Wrestlemania moment, Maggle!", that blows.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Probably not vince told bret he'd hold the title for a year and told nash he'd have it 2-3 years.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Absolutely. Telling us as it's happening that we're seeing an historic moment doesn't make it so.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Still annoyed there is no Superstars...you know their FLAGSHIP show until the mid 90s? Also how about all of the tons of shows they have. Wrestling Challenge, All American Wrestling...etc...etc.... You could also throw in the WCW weekend shows as well.

I don't mind if they had 2-3 or week. Just make it consistent.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The Fishsticks were moving to Brooklyn in October

    ReplyDelete
  69. Amd he stayed, because

    ReplyDelete
  70. FUNNIEST part of that promo. It's like Warrior and Hogan have their bits and its like "Uh, Tito, what is the name of your followers?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Brooklyn is getting Summerslam, quit your whining

    ReplyDelete
  72. In basketball they don't put half of the arena away with a big HD screen and entrance area.

    ReplyDelete
  73. That doesn't take up 1/3rd of an arena's seats though.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ok, I'm exaggerating but I could live with a very small entrance like in the early days. They could put the screens somewhere around the ring or so.

    ReplyDelete
  75. they did it because they wanted to be in the NY area with LT wrestling and hoped to get as positive an audience response as possible from NY area giants fans. They just ran MSG year before so that and other nearby NYC arenas like meadowlands were ruled out, so Hartford it was. Plenty of giants fans reside in CT

    ReplyDelete
  76. Impossible logistics being mid baseball season and also yankees would never allow any setup and seating on the grass. Wont happen

    ReplyDelete
  77. that is a heck of a stretch to use that as a selling point. An event that is obscure to the majority of their fans in a building that doesnt exist anymore.
