The Boom Period is OVER

Well obviously that post-WM ratings bump was a fluke.  This can only mean one thing:  MORE McMahons!  And people married to McMahons.

Comments

  1. Clearly, this means that the WWE Universe just doesn't appreciate the brilliance of the McMahon family. They just need more Big Show and Kane!

Have no fear, the man without fear is here.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I watched an ep of Daredevil last night. It was ok. I'm still skeptical of super heroes without super powers, but it was a well done show. I'm eager to see how they do Kingpin.

He has super powers. The guy lacks FEAR!

    ReplyDelete
  5. People's Elbow! Though he wasn't doing the Elbow pad routine yet

    ReplyDelete
  6. He has powers, the way he pushes his other senses are his powers.

Too many Clones. I feel like I'm in "The Thing: Mobile Version."

    ReplyDelete
  8. So that twist in the Terminator trailer was interesting, mostly because it tied into that original ending of Salvation where John Conner ends up being changed by the heart transplant.

  9. At what point do they start panicking with the low RAW rating?

    F4Wonline:

"Raw felt greatly from last week's show which went against the highest rated NCAA final in moer than a decade and was near record low levels. The show was one of the least watched episode of Raw in the modern era that was not during football season or a non-holiday show, doing 3.66 million viewers, down 23% from the same week one year ago.

    The three hours were:
    8 p.m. 3.69 million viewers
    9 p.m. 3.79 million viewers
    10 p.m. 3.53 million viewers"

  11. Mark Henry heel turn. Sadly, no Hall of Pain, so he's just a useless Nation goon

    ReplyDelete
  12. Post Mania Raw is now an event just like Mania. The other 51 Raws not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  13. ROCK-em SOCK-em Robot!!!!April 14, 2015 at 5:39 PM

    Probably never.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm not sure if that's a super power. Maybe a slightly above average power.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I actually remember the first one I saw on Shotgun Saturday Night back in the day before he added the theatrics. I was like why the fuck did he do all that running just to do an elbow drop.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Carlos Carrasco got carted off after a line drive ricocheted off his wrist and into his face.

    ReplyDelete
  17. He has his super powers, they just don't show it visually like the sonar-sense in the 2003 movie.

  18. ROCK-em SOCK-em Robot!!!!April 14, 2015 at 5:40 PM

    WORLD. ON. FIRE.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Happening with too much regularity nowadays...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Not every superhero needs powers. And I say that with Superman being my favourite hero.

    ReplyDelete
  21. They'll just convince themselves it was because it was taped and spoilerz.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Roman Reigns will bring the ratings up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Once it dips so close to the below-3-mil mark

    ReplyDelete
  24. So there's zero reason to go see the movie now.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Burt Macklin, Man Without FearApril 14, 2015 at 5:41 PM

    That ending!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. See? No Authority, no ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The new face of without fear?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I owe $5 for fed, and $5 for state. I'm done for. DONE FOR!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I dunno about that way of thinking.

I'll probably watch another episode though.

    ReplyDelete

    That beginning!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Burt Macklin, Man Without FearApril 14, 2015 at 5:42 PM

    That middle!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Taped RAW's don't usually do well in the ratings though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Second ep has one of the best fight scenes I've ever seen, movie or show.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Some Republican who was pushing "Abstinence-only" sex education in school is going to be a grandfather. His daughter is only 17.

    The irony.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh I hope we get more Big Steph demeaning male wrestlers! It's what the people want obviously

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's good. It's a great show.

And what's wrong with superheroes without powers? Batman's great without any. Technically, Iron Man doesn't have any. Who are some of your favourites, if you don't mind my asking?

    ReplyDelete
  37. $19.99 to file for state isn't bad.

    ReplyDelete
  38. See? If she was abstinent, she wouldn't be pregnant!

    ReplyDelete
  39. It was a taped Raw, though. Last year's UK show did only 3.76 million viewers, though that was also up against the NBA Western Conference Finals

    ReplyDelete

  49. Fucking 1:30 in the morning here and I'm still desperately trying to save this newspaper, fucking full staff failure they didn't get anything finished or sent to me until 1:30pm west coast time and our print deadline if fucking 3. It's like 6 there now, the fury is real.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Scott, not to alarm you but your blog seems to be reposting this every year at this same date.

    ReplyDelete
  51. where are you? The UK?

    What's up!

    ReplyDelete
  55. All the preview blurbs said last nights show was going to feature the return of HHH and Stephanie. Maybe that backfired, or maybe what the show needs is Stephanie verbally dominating the Tag Team Champions and then her beating them in a handicap match.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ah, the famous Nugget promo!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I kinda miss the C/D level shows, like Heat and Main Event. I can't imagine it would take that much effort to tape them and put them on the network on a Tuesday and Friday night. Hell, bring back jobbers (which I've been saying for years) and let some of the lower-mid guys go out and show off some cool moves.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I thought they were re-booting this shit and forgetting Salvation existed.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oldenburg in Germany, the first few days of vacation were great but now I'm dealing with a collapse of infrastructure and I'm not there to fire anyone lol

I'm just sitting here...patiently waiting for them to upload pictures while we sit 3 hours past print deadline....watching dollars fall away

    ReplyDelete
  60. His powers are way stronger than people think and give him credit for.

His reflexes and reaction speeds are really strong for a "street-level" guy. This is the guy who dodges a sniper round when his senses was limited by a room he was in so he didn't even know it was there, sensed the air pressure change, and THEN dodged it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Dang dude that sucks. Not much you can do about it so just try to enjoy yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I never really liked Batman or Iron Man. Batman doesn't have powers, and Iron Man doesn't really either.

Avengers was always my go-to. I liked a few of their lineups, but never really Iron Man, or Wasp, and Captain America I was so-so on. I also liked FF, Spider Man, X-Men not named Longshot, Gambit, or Forge. Hulk. Anybody cosmic, although I never understood why Silver Surfer had his board and thought he would be a lot cooler if he just flew.

For some reason I always respected Hawkeye, even though he too has no powers.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Burt Macklin, Man Without FearApril 14, 2015 at 5:53 PM

    You still got it *clapclapclapclapclap*

....aside from everything collapsing on your European Vacation....how are ya?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Saw the trailer for the NWA movie. I had no idea they were revolutionaries fighting for civil rights issues. I always thought they were just dudes that used the n-word a lot and chased women.

    ReplyDelete
  65. It is creepy that even SOUNDS like Chyna now.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Taped Raw against highest rated NCAA final in more than a decade. Let's not hit panic mode.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Haha I wrote that too

    ReplyDelete
  68. So former WR Curtis Conway worked with me one on one today in terms of cutting some game film packages to highlight what he wanted to point out with the secondary coverage. It was pretty awesome not just breaking down film with a former pro football player (especially since as someone who never played it, I had to focus hard on coming across as knowing what he's talking about), but also the fact that I was working with the son-in-law of maybe the greatest athlete ever, Muhammad Ali.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Then, is it time to hit...BRIE MODE? *troll face*

    ReplyDelete
  70. Not watched Daredevil tv show but unless they have deviated from the source material drastically, Doesn't Daredevil have powers?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cena's opening promo was one of his worst ever and that's saying something. Please change his character.

    ReplyDelete
  72. It was last week that was against the NCAA Finals

    ReplyDelete
  73. They will spin that shit like Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore are sitting in front of it, too.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hawkeye, Bullseye, and Green Arrow having "no powers" are some of the most ridiculous things ever. Comic book guys without "powers" are only without powers relatively speaking. Comic book peak humans are WAY above even Olympic athletes in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Not bad. The white and red one should use a bit more brown though.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Would everyone be criticizing Stephanie if her character was a man?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I saw little girls at Axxess wearing that shirt. Meaning that their parents have no idea that "Brie Mode" means getting absolutely crazy, shit-faced plastered and they bought it because, yay, Feminism or something.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I understand that they are peak level, or perhaps even slightly higher than possible peak level. I understand that they are not average Joes. I understand that Daredevil has greatly enhanced senses.

I'm fine with you enjoying those guys though, it's ok.

    ReplyDelete
  80. The Balding Roll Express!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm pretty sure HHH and Vince get their fair share of criticism.

    ReplyDelete
  82. And with no shirts, it looks like the Stomach Roll Express, too.

    ReplyDelete
  83. He has heightened senses. That is, sort of, a super power.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Are they mutually exclusive?

    ReplyDelete
  85. What Reigns match are you watching?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Ha, quick shot of Jim Cornette reveals a sea of empty seats that they have to cut away from. There are some blacked out sections on the roof too.

Of course, just a few months later they'd probably pack the arena with no problem.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Watched the first two episodes of Dare Devil. Kinda slow and I'm not a huge fan of the fight scene style. Does it pick up at all as the season goes on?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Nope. I mean, Triple H does the exact same stuff gets annoying sometimes but then I think to myself, "Oh, he has testicles," and then I'm okay with it.

    ReplyDelete
  89. How the fuck did that Meth head hillbilly motherfucker become a "teen idol" gimmick?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Boners

    Poopity

    Hi every BoDy!

Now it's time for the laid back evening thread, as opposed to the ANNNNNNNNGGGGRRRRRRRYYYYYYYY daily thread

    ReplyDelete
  91. Yes. Absolutely. And anyone who says otherwise is made of lies and broken olive branches.

    ReplyDelete
  92. And then I saw his face

    And I'm a Belieber

    ReplyDelete
  93. With the possibility of McMahons returning to TV, I've come to the conclusion that someone needs to replace the opening of "No Chance In Hell" with Tina Belcher's anxiety groan.

    ReplyDelete
  94. But...

    She swaaaallllllowed it

    ReplyDelete
  95. Chilling out at night, Bobby Walker

    ReplyDelete
  96. Is MC Ren still alive?

    ReplyDelete
  97. European Vacation?

    Look kids. Big Ben. Parliament.

    ReplyDelete
  98. To clarify, many people bitch and moan about how she stands up to the wrestlers (excuse me superstars) during the show. Well, Vince did that 15 years ago and everyone loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  99. They're still gonna suck.

    ReplyDelete
  100. ThebrazilianpsychoApril 14, 2015 at 6:12 PM

    DJ Yella posts in here.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Bayless and Burt: y'all owe some royalties

    THAT'S what's up

    ReplyDelete
  102. I knew a girl who I swear was a real life version of her

    ReplyDelete
  103. There was one thing that irked me about the trailer: The White Sox hat that I believe Eazy (or maybe it was Cube) was wearing was not a thing when they were forming the group and releasing 'Straight Outta Compton.' That logo wasn't a thing until the '91 season.

    ReplyDelete
  104. The hair, glasses, the voice, the awkwardness, even the groan

    ReplyDelete
  105. They're an improvement

    ReplyDelete
  106. Right, they still had the old hat right?

    ReplyDelete
  107. and the obsession over butts......?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Funny that the GOP constantly pushes for "abstinence only" sex ed and the areas in which it is taught have higher teen pregnancy rates than schools that are intelligent enough NOT to teach that drek.

    ReplyDelete
  109. **diving headbutt to the nads**

    ReplyDelete
  110. See, not that exactly, and I know that;'s a deal breaker

But when she did get obsessed over stuff

    ReplyDelete
  111. So a dad decided to upload footage of his daughter crying during Mustafa's* death scene

LOOK AT HER PAIN, SO CUTE

    *not me

    ReplyDelete
  112. I thought Main Event was still around?

    ReplyDelete
  113. And the sad thing is Rousey will be the one to finally give Steph her comeuppance and Ronda isn't even a part timer so she's going to get that big rub and won't be working for the company the following night.

    ReplyDelete
  114. The boom period officially ended in 2002 when Austin and The Rock stopped working full schedules. It's really been mediocrity across the board ever since (ratings, revenue etc.). IMO only the Summer of Punk and the lead up to managed to come close to recapturing any of the old magic. And of course they screwed it up.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Is it? Maybe it is. I don't have the network anymore. Last I remember hearing was that it was cancelled for some reason or another. But I actually enjoyed it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. This is a dramatically larger drop than previous years. The lows are getting lower and the highs are 10% less.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Well, at least Bryan can't get blamed for this can he?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Mmmmm Stephanie's ass

    ReplyDelete
  119. Well the only way for thing in the WWE to turn around is for Vince McMahon to be removed for power

    ReplyDelete
  120. Well the only Way for things to turn around in the WWE is for there to be a coup d'etat on the McMahon Family

    ReplyDelete
  121. So, I don't want to sound alarmist, just throwing a question out there, if WWE goes out of business, what happens to professional wrestling in North America?

    ReplyDelete
  122. BIG setback. No other TV network would give a deal to another wrestling company for a while. Since WWE = wrestling for most fans it would be devastating.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Think this is fun? Just wait until the show quality gets so bad that people stop paying the overpriced tickets. Then the fun REALLY begins.

    ReplyDelete
  124. It's not happening ANYTIME soon., but i'd imagine the territories would return. I can't see tna taking over.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Vicki's farewell... and we all enthusiastically applauded her for it.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Well there wasn't any football, not college hoops, no hockey, it's early season in baseball...wonder what the excuse would be?

No HHH and Big Steph...got it.

    ReplyDelete
  127. The simple solution is to just throw Vince, Stephanie & HHH off the Grand Canyon

    ReplyDelete
  128. If I had been terrible at my job since the fall of 2000, I'd have been fired a loooooooong time ago. It must be nice to be horrible at your job, without fear of being fired.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I would feel bad for the canyon.

    ReplyDelete
  130. You're a funny guy, Bones.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Oh, thank God! You hadn't posted in so long today that I thought you might be away and - thus - feared for a wrestler's life.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Hey I got banned for Scott's twitter page for suggesting that Vince needed to be assassinated

    ReplyDelete
  133. The millions tuning expecting to see Reigns as champ are never coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  134. They do, superstars too

    ReplyDelete
  135. As you should be.

Vince should be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a smelly donkey.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Exactly. And when fans chanted at Vince, he would snap back at them, to show that they were getting under his skin. He didn't have a smartass remark for everything they did.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Well it wasn't the smartest thing I've ever said

    ReplyDelete
  138. Stephanie has a grand canyon in her pants....hey-oh

    ReplyDelete
  139. Obviously byran"s fault, but they'll say cause it was taped

    ReplyDelete
  140. I don't think so. There's so many networks and people will still like wrestling. Networks need content.

    ReplyDelete
  141. This is a silly statement. She is getting just as much shit as Vince, Bischoff, Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan or anyone else got when ratings nosedived because of their idiocy.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I'm not arguing this or taking a dig at you more just noting how we've continued to have this conversation every year for 12 years and it never changes and their solution is always the same and we always seem to be surprised by it.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Samoans watch in droves. Who knew?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Well it wasn't the smartest thing I've said I'll give you that

    ReplyDelete
  145. If anyone is playing their cards right at the moment, it's Lucha Underground. Don't set your sights too high, let the product speak for itself, let word of mouth do all the work for you. They're going to be just fine in their own little corner and their time will eventually come.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Preview for next weeks Raw: Big Show!!! Kane!!! The Authority!!! Ryback!!! Big Show!!! Kane!!!

    ReplyDelete
  147. One of My Idea's for Wrestlemania Last Year was to have Cena Face The Undertaker Beat The Undertaker then attack the Undertaker after the match doing the unthinkable and turning heel in the process as Cena gives such a brutal beating to the Undertaker that he is stretchered out of the Ring

    ReplyDelete
  148. She doesn't get nearly the amount of grief as Kevin Nash or Vince Russo got

    ReplyDelete
  149. Biff Kensington Has a PosseApril 14, 2015 at 6:56 PM

Brock went away, Rousey didn't show up, people stopped caring. That and the last 45 minutes were an abomination of unwieldy proportions.

    ReplyDelete
  150. The last 45 minutes? It may have been underwhelming, but I would not call Ziggler/Neville an abomination by any means.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Biff Kensington Has a PosseApril 14, 2015 at 6:57 PM

I meant the night after WrestleMania, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  152. But to be fair, I don't remember Vince cowering when Zach Gowen got in the ring. They should stop picking the small, skinny divas to put against her. Though maybe that's *why* they're picked.

    ReplyDelete
  153. If anyone sets the standard for torpedoing ratings, it's Vince Russo, the man that nearly killed TWO wrestling organizations.

    ReplyDelete
  154. They're already getting there, but won't seem to accept it

    ReplyDelete
  155. The Problem With Daniel Bryan's Title run last year was that he allowed himself to be put into a really crappy feud with Kane that he should've vetoed right off the bat the other thing he should've done is fight through the pain of that neck injury and defended the title right up to Summerslam

    ReplyDelete
  156. Sounds like the Blockbuster recipe for bankruptcy, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  157. That's because Vince Russo and Kevin Nash were actually writing the shows.

    ReplyDelete
  158. WCW was already on death's door when Russo got there

    ReplyDelete
  159. And she's had a hand at writing the shows since 2000

    ReplyDelete
  160. It was a taped show. Not any worse than other shows of late, just taped. Some people read the spoilers and didn't bother watching. If ratings drop again next week, then sound the alarms.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Yes, although less than I think if she was a man. But, it's not sexism. It's because her character takes advantage of being a woman in today's WWE when the men can't touch the ladies. We know she's never getting hers as she goes out of her way to bury every female on the roster.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Welp, I've been done with the current product for years, and shant be returning till Trips and Steph are no longer on-screen characters...so yeah, WWE will likely go out of business before that happens.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Steph follows HHH logic of almost never showing ass unless it's advantageous to you.

    ReplyDelete
  164. If the McMahons somehow go away, they'll be replaced. Every fed does the authority crap now. It's unavoidable and a big reason why my love of wrestling has faded.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Has anyone ever thought about putting someone like Jim Cornette, Paul Heyman or Jim Ross in Charge of The WWE anyone of those 3 individuals could probably turn things around in the blink of an eye

    ReplyDelete
  166. I don't think a lot of Cornette's stuff would fly today...he's still stuck in the 80s.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Yeah he is a little bit of a nutcase but fun to listen to

    ReplyDelete
  168. If WWE ever did go broke I'd put in a bid for the library!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Cornette would be okay as a voice for ideas but on a team. He'd possibly balance a more modern version of booking, which is why I think the Attitude Era booking worked.

    ReplyDelete
  170. LITERALLY showed ass.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Not clueless. Indifferent. Huge difference.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Lol Hurdle just got run

    ReplyDelete
  173. A lot of the concepts would work just fine today but he'd need to have a filter to go through like Russo had with McMahon.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Virgil's Gimmick TableApril 14, 2015 at 7:18 PM

Just treat her like a Chyna!

    ReplyDelete
  175. I wonder why no one else tried to make an attempt at buying WCW during its final days

    ReplyDelete
  176. Well, I just suck.

...but they should be on the network.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Well he did say individuals, so I took it as just one doing the booking.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Yes he did. At first I thought I was hearing Diana, but they showed her and her mouth wasn' moving.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I agree that he and Russo in '97-'98 actually made for a better team than you'd expect, but...man, Cornette's idea for the Invasion for his Guest Booker shoot wasn't much better than what we actually got.

    ReplyDelete
  180. If they had pushed BROCK murder death killing everyone into the 10 o'clock hour and someone (Dean?) beating Cena for the U.S. title it would have been one of the all time great Raws and they'd still be riding the high.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Exactly. Can you imagine Steph or Hunter taking the ass-kicking that Vince did against Undertaker & Kane in 1998?

    ReplyDelete
  182. Duh. The solution is more John CENA standing up to the authority.

    ReplyDelete
  183. You're surprised by this?

He outta ban you here too.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Yeah I can't believe they think they're too good to run Hershey for Raw.

    ReplyDelete
  185. WWE gets bought to be cheap programming for usa, someone (Netflix, Amazon, maybe even UFC) buys the tape archives and makes money off that as an online service.

  186. That's a good point; FWIW I've mostly been sticking to NJPW which entirely lacks this trope - it's honestly the most refreshing thing one could imagine in wrestling nowadays.

  187. This is why I don't understand why they made Brock go away. It won't mean anything when he comes back in August because no one will be watching.

Brock losing the title at WM was one of the hottest angles the WWE had produced in years and the follow up is to make the guy bringing all the viewers go away. So stupid.

It took three years but they FINALLY figured out how to make Brock mean something again and they immediately pissed it all away.
