Worst PPVs?

Hi Scott,

I always ask for you recommendations on what to watch and I realise I'm doing it wrong. What are the worst PPV shows you've ever endured during the last 10 years of WWE programming?

No Way Out 2002 and Bad Blood 2003 instantly jump out as being really bad shows with no redeeming qualities. Do you have any more that are worth flat out avoiding?

Thanks.

I barely even remember what happened year-to-year past the brand extension point, let alone which PPVs were terrible.  I remember Bash 2004 as being terrible (the one with Paul Bearer getting killed by cement mixer) and of course this year's Royal Rumble was legendarily awful, but it's a blur to me beyond that.

Comments

  1. Both of the shows mentioned in the email aren't that bad. Not great, but certainly not worst. I mean No Way Out 2002 had that EPIC Rocky promo killing the nWo and Bad Blood 2003 feature some decent matches.

King of the Ring 2002 is garbage. Armageddon 2002 is really, really bad. And to Scott's point, basically any of the re-born Great American Bash shows are total crap.

  2. They already tried that with Cole's "anal bleeding" line, didn't take off like they thought

  3. This e-mail had too many words. I can't be bothered to read this!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Bro, I'm tellin ya. Sex. Will. Get. Eye. Balls. On. The. Show.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Aside from a good Shield/Rhodes Brothers match, Battleground 2013 was pretty terrible, including one of the worst endings to a WWE PPV ever.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Only if the Triple Threat match is called by Lawler & JR and ends with Austin giving each of the current announcers 15 stunners so they go away forever.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I was in attendance at Great American Bash 04, thank you very much!

Anything RAW-related in 2002 and 2003 was terrible - just Triple H wankfests

    ReplyDelete
  8. I love everything about this idea.

    ReplyDelete
  9. First PPV I ever ordered was Great American Bash 2006. I was a child, and a mark.

It's not good. It's in fact quite bad--just check the results tab! http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_American_Bash_%282006%29

December to Dismember, what a waste of a show.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'd stayed up until 4am and didn't realise it had actually ended.

Yup. First match was *** and that was as good as it got in every conceivable way.

    ReplyDelete
  13. this email is more retarded than funny...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I liked that show a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Theberzerker, #1 HUSS CHOMPIONApril 23, 2015 at 9:39 AM

Rumble this year doesn't really count when the triple threat match was UNCHRISTLY good and damn near *****

    ReplyDelete
  16. That show was so bad. I think Vince booked it like that as a middle finger to the old JCP fans

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes yes yes yes no no no no

    ReplyDelete
  18. The worst part is, I can hear this conversation between the announcers in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Judgment Day 2003 and 2004 sucked

    ReplyDelete
  20. Was that Cena vs. Lashley?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah this unconformably realistic fantasy booking.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Vengeance 2006. Holy shit that show was bad.

    ReplyDelete
  23. No, that was the elevated enzymes show

    ReplyDelete
  24. you can call this the anti bob cat email which was hilariously bad in an amazing way!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I got shushed during that show for making jokes during Kane v. Fake Kane

    ReplyDelete
  26. The JBL-Guerrero match was a lot of fun live, I must admit. But god Undertaker just sucked in 2004 - people in the crowd were like "why is he fighting the Dudleys" and nobody understood what was happening with the cement. Literally seconds after it wen toff the air everyone saw Bearer falling out the back of it. So dumb.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It was so bad, Heyman quit, Big Show quit (oh, excuse me, "burned out"), and Dreamer and Stevie would have quit if they had let them.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Fatal Four Way 2010, WOOF. Summerslam 2007 was an absolutely irredeemable piece of garbage, the "highlights" of the show were returns for Triple H and Rey Mysterio where they looked sluggish and terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What's worse is the *** opener was a carbon copy of a match they had done a million times before and better on TV and other PPVs.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Armageddon '03 I think peaked at **1/2 in Scott's review for the Three Stages of Hell main event. Easily the worst HHH vs. HBK.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wait, what? I vaguely remember this but I'm not googling it on my work computer.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I Was at Fatal Four Way and it was a lot of fun. Nothing bad, just a bunch of solid matches

    ReplyDelete
  33. That Triple H vs. Undertaker match at King of the Ring 2002. The shit smell funk of it still lingers 13 years later.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was 21 in 2006...wtf. Am I just old?

    ReplyDelete
  35. No Way Out 2002 debuted the nWo in WWE, so that redeems it somewhat in my eyes. Seeing Hogan in WWF again was pretty cool the first time around.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Rollins/Cena/Lesnar alone (not to mention a really good tag team title match) keeps this year's Rumble from "legendarily awful" status as an overall show.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have an extreme antipathy toward that time in 2010 and maybe am misremembering that show as being worse than it was. It was collectively shit on by everybody but looks better on paper than I remember.

I also didn't remember the Cena/Batista LMS PPV as being Extreme Rules and not Over The Limit, probably in my top 5 most hated matches and finishes of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's not even the worst Royal Rumble match, it was piss poor but '09 and '99 were worse and probably several others.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've probably said it 100 times, but I think the reason I'm still a huge HHH fan to this day is that I skipped over those years pretty much entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wasn't Bash when JBL won the title in a bullrope match? B/c the consensus is that's a really really good match.

Wouldn't a worst PPV have to have no redeeming value?

    Try Havoc 2000

    ReplyDelete
  41. Between Wrestlemania 26 and the Nexus debut was just a booking wasteland.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I feel like having one ***1/2 match doesn't redeem three hours of crap.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Co-sign on Summerslam '07... such a snoozefest

    ReplyDelete
  44. Fall Brawl 2000 says hello

    ReplyDelete
  45. If you call anything else the worst Summerslam you're fucking wrong. Worst show of the Benoit hangover.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Nah, the cage match main was pretty good

    ReplyDelete
  47. Kofi v. Drew was really good, Bourne v. Y2J was awesome and both 4-ways were good. Sheamus winning ruled

    ReplyDelete
  48. I survived by periodically watching his 2000 run to remind myself how good he could be.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It wasn't bad match-wise, but Fully Loaded 2000 occupies a special place in hell. The old guard beat all of the new blood (Taker over Angle, Hunter over Jericho, Rock over Benoit).

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think they really don't try anymore when a ppv is in Milwaukee. KOTR '96 and Over the Edge '98 were good, but NWO, Taboo Tuesday 04 and Elimination Chamber '12 sure weren't.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah, there were definitely others that were technically worse. I'm watching all of '98 now and just watched the Rumble, and holy fuck, was that shit brutal. But it was at least exciting once the considerable deadweight cleared out, even as they'd all but told us for the previous month that Austin would be winning the Rumble match.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh god "im doing it wrong" isnt coming back is it? I just came to accept that "because reasons" isnt going anywhere anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  53. From hosting Starrcade '88 to hosting the 2004 Great American Bash. Quite the drop in quality for Norfolk.

    ReplyDelete
  54. They did Austin vs. Jericho twice. I wanted to like it a lot but they had no chemistry. Rock vs. Jericho was always amazing though.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ehhhhhhhh..... SuperBrawl X and Uncensored 2000 sucked.... Much like most of that year did for WCW.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Who was in the Elimination Chamber matches in 2012?

Also - why can't I remember who was in main events from four years ago but can recite the undercard of an IYH from 1995 from memory?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I thought the '98 Rumble was a fun show with plenty of good historical value. It's worth watching once. Rock has lots of great shit on the show. It's just kind of a show that "needed to happen" for the Austin storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jericho's a strange case in that there's a LOT of guys you'd think he'd have great matches with and yet there was no chemistry. Cena, Punk, Flair, Austin...

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can remember the location for each of the Big 5, but couldn't tell you what the main event of last December's PPV was

    ReplyDelete
  60. Was that the one with Steiner vs. Goldberg? That's a great match.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I feel like a crappy WCW PPV is usually way less punishing than a crappy WWE one since WWE's are way more formulaic and rely on at least a few matches to be good.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mark Henry handling the big Johnson

    ReplyDelete
  63. I completely forgot about it. Vince Russo beating down Goldberg caused me to forget about the match

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have a freakish memory for this type of stuff, and I had to think about it for 15 seconds.
It was an Ambrose/Wyatt/TV monitor triple threat.

    ReplyDelete
  65. If you mean '13 it's Randy Orton vs. John Cena to unify the titles in a TLC, if you mean last year's it's Bray vs. Ambrose.

    ReplyDelete
  66. 100% agreed.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Austin, Flair, Punk, RVD.

I always thought his Cena matches were good but Survivor Series '08 was shit. Jobbing him when he was hot to Cena was horrendous.

    ReplyDelete
  68. A $40 PPV with Billy Gunn v. Kenzo Suzuki, Torrie vs. Sable, and Bob Holly vs. Mordecai among other bottom of the barrel matches, with Taker squashing the Dudleys and killing Paul Bearer in the show closer? Worst PPV of 2004 definitely. Of the last 10 years... ECW December to Dismember.

    ReplyDelete
  69. He also had really good chemistry in the one match he did with Undertaker. It's a pity they didn't do it at Mania during the streak.

    ReplyDelete
  70. As bad as WCW's announcers were, they were better than what the WWE is currently using

    ReplyDelete
  71. ROFL! Everybody LOL at the feeb! AMIRITE?!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Post Wrestlemania 20 Smackdown was the absolute drizzles. They could not have made it any more obvious that "We are raiding this show to save Raw from the ratings spiral it's in. Enjoy your Kenzo Suzuki matches."

    ReplyDelete
  73. I couldn't remember, but yet I remember King of the Ring '97 was in Providence, R.I.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Besides their August 1998 match on Thunder, did Jericho ever wrestle Flair in WCW? Because any WWE match was with an obviously past-his-prime Flair

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yeah, those old guys were really way past their prime and in need of a push out the door.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Fully Loaded 2000 gets a pass for having good matches. WWE's ppvs, again, are all formula - so good matches and story get a pass but when it's bad it's really bad.

    ReplyDelete
  77. This email could main event any inbox in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm not saying that, but at least one of them should've lost a match to make it interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Just don't mention RVD in that; Jericho will flip his shit

    ReplyDelete
  80. Vintage gets it.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I can too, and it would be their best interaction since "Anal Bleeding"

    ReplyDelete
  82. I gotta say, between this, bob cat and Joe Gomez, this has been a really hilarious week here.

    ReplyDelete
  83. That was the one where the retarded kid tried to hug Shawn Michaels during his match right?

    ReplyDelete
  84. I mean, it certainly would have been fine if that had happened, but Rock and HHH had a combined three years of main eventing under their belts at this point. They were hardly the "old guard."

    ReplyDelete
  85. Angle should have beaten Taker. Hell, Angle had already hit him in the knee with a pipe

    ReplyDelete
  86. That's how the show was perceived though. The fact that the old guard went 3-0 left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, especially since Angle and Jericho should've won

    ReplyDelete
  87. I thought more people would remember Undertaker killing Paul Bearer. You mean it's not cemented into people's memories?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Cemented...I see what you did there...

    ReplyDelete
  89. It was a concrete effort on my part.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Stranger in the AlpsApril 23, 2015 at 11:03 AM

Not nearly enough "get the fuck out of here".

    ReplyDelete
  91. "This will obviously lead to a triple threat match between the commentators at Wrestlemania"

Who calls the match! I am NOT watching this, in silence

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yeah, I didn't laugh once. Bring back bob cat.
