WWE streaming competition

HBO Now launched it's new streaming service last Wednesday, and this week WWE added ALL the '98 Raws to the Network. Coincidence? How much is WWE paying attention to other competitors in the online streaming space? You'd think that it wouldn't really matter, but between Netflix + Hulu + WWE + Amazon + HBO Now, I mean something's gotta give, right?

And have you checked out HBO Now? Pretty fucking sweet deal. It was awfully hard for me to choose between 98 Raws and Game of Thrones tonight, but… Winter is Coming.

I don't even know if there's a way around geoblocking of HBO Now in Canada.  Aside from Game of Thrones, though, HBO isn't really a big player in Canada anyway because the rights to their stuff is pretty heavily divided among all the pay TV broadcasters.  I'm not even sure how they'd pull off the Now service legally up here.  And no, I don't watch Game of Thrones.

I don't know if WWE cares about their service or not, but interestingly enough Crackle is now adding a live stream like the WWE Network, so maybe other people are paying attention to them.

    You need to watch GoT.

  2. Is this emailer the same guy who said he was gonna watch HBO instead of Mania? Because, seriously, WWE and HBO are not direct competitors.

  3. Is HBO Now still exclusive to Apple's shitty stream box?

  4. If you have a kid, they are now.

Before, they had to fight for you viewing pleasure.

Now with the network/hboGo, they have to fight your money if you are interested in both.

  5. That's Vince-Speak. Wrestling and dragons are on complete separate spectrums of entertainment.

  6. I believe it is for the first 3 months.

  8. And I agree with that

But the person paying for the separate spectrums can potentially be the same.

Im not a fan of HBO all like that so HBOGo will probably never get my money.

But, say for instance there are a contingent of fans who like BOTH GoT and WWE and are willing to pay, that is where the problem lies with Vince because GoT is better than WWE clearly. Ive never watched it, but I hear more people talking about GoT than the last RAW on social media so there's that.

  9. How is HBO a competitor to WWE? Just because they are both streaming services doesn't mean they have the same target audience.

  10. Does the HBO service have Tales from the Crypt on it?

  11. But they're both entertainment. That's the key. I'd argue most streaming services and entertainment are direct competition. People want to be entertained and if that's not by wwe then they have options to consider even if those are non wrestling

  13. Because it's the best show on TV?

  14. I've heard a lot of platitudes that it is great, but have yet to have someone explain what's so good about it. Though, I cant stand fantasy dragon stuff, so I'm probably not its target audience anyways.

  15. Agreed. GoT is well written, well acted, and BOOBS. Lots and lots of gratuitous BOOBS.

  16. They are competitors only in the broadest sense of "people only have so much money to spend." Other than that, yes, you're right.

  17. Amazon Prime has a bunch of old HBO shows, as well. I started going back through Deadwood not all that long ago.

  19. If you have an iphone or ipad and a lightning to HDMI cable i think you can do it from an iOS device. I have HBO GO on my iphone since I haven't canceled my cable yet and I watched the scientology doc on it, looked and sounded great.

  20. Problem is I hate Apple and don't own any of their devices. I'll just keep waiting until HBO Now is available everywhere
