  1. Jacques Rougeau has a son who's 6'7" and 300 pounds? Vince probably just climaxed.

    ReplyDelete
  2. My bad, I read the Miz part as him starring in "Santa With Muscles".

    ReplyDelete
  3. YOUR next greatest Intercontinental Champion of all-time!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I tried to read this Masked Man column and gave up at zenith of the reality era. What trash

    ReplyDelete
  5. How many freakin' DVDs has the Undertaker had at this point?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Grampa's Little Helper? What's that?

    ReplyDelete
  7. "After getting fired from his job, a slick, fast-talking businessman is given an opportunity of a lifetime to become Santa Claus’ second-in-command. However, getting the job won’t be that easy: Dax must go head-to-head against an elf that feels she’s more deserving of the title. As the competition heats up, Dax learns the true meaning of Christmas… but ultimately who will become "Santa’s Little Helper"?"

So Mad Max was the absolute tits...

    ReplyDelete
  9. So knowing that Miz was going to be off TV for 2 months, he won the Sandow feud because...?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Because reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  11. If Santa Claus turns out to be Captain Sisko, I am SO buying this.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Miz has to be kept strong so he can put Christmas over.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Because WWE doesn't want to be responsible for Dougie's suicide?

    ReplyDelete

    I AM THE MOUNTIEEEEEEEEEEE's son

    ReplyDelete
  15. He's less lazy of a Millennial than Sandow

    ReplyDelete
  16. It sounds like we have 2 sons of former wrestlers signing. Biff Busick has to be Big Bully's son, right?

    ReplyDelete
  17. While I will say that this sounds like a bad ripoff of Elf, playing a dorky elf in a stupid costume is probably just right for Miz.

    ReplyDelete
  18. One day we'll be watching nothing but the kids of the wrestlers we watched as kids.

And we'll look at our own kids who aren't wrestlers and they'll be SUCH disappointments to us.

    ReplyDelete
  19. And we'll feel super old...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Paige will make quite a sexy slick businessman too, I'd wager.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Tombstone, This is My Yard, Undertaker: He Buries them Alive! (VHS)..... am I missing any?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Paige in an elf suit might get me to watch that movie (on mute).

    ReplyDelete
  23. She looks pretty fucking good in the video at the bottom of the page I got that synopsis from: http://www.wwe.com/inside/overtheropes/wwestudios/santas-little-helper-miz-page-27253718

    ReplyDelete
  24. And we'll finally understand our own fathers' looks of disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We still haven't gotten the dreaded Undertaker vs. Kane DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't really have a 'type,' but that totally works for me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've been boycotting remakes and reboots for a while, but I might check this one out.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Daniel Bryan's injury problems are a wrestling tragedy. He's a throwback, a wrestler proud to be a wrestler who honed his skills by traveling the world, learning from masters, having matches with diverse and talented opponents and improving himself as much as he could. He then made it to the top company on the planet and faces adversity but fought through, becoming one of the most popular wrestlers in this generation and winning the world title in one of the greatest Wrestlemania performances ever.

    It's a damn shame.

    But...

    WE'RE GETTING THE MOUNTIE'S SON!!!!!

    Life goes on, motherfuckers!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte was the main event of the NXT house show last night, which was a hit across the board by all reports.

It's nice to know there is one piece of the WWE empire that caters to their hardcore fans.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cedric Rougeau's new name?

    Jean Luc Le Douche

    ReplyDelete
  33. Do you really want your kid to be a wrestler? Sure, they MIGHT make good money but no one comes out of it unscathed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL, Give Divas a Chance actually happens on the show Steph ISN'T involved in.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm gonna force my kids to do all the things I never got to do, like all good fathers

    ReplyDelete
  36. This one's by the original director.

Slow day in the television world too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If Cedric Rougeau doesn't debut with Mountie training vignettes I'll be disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  49. My kid is going to do all the things or I won't love him

    ReplyDelete
  50. I watched those movies not too long ago. I still love 1 and 2, 3 was shit, 4 would have been great if they ended it before the hospital nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If it was 20-25 years ago I'd be excited by the possibilties. But I've seen too many second generations crash and burn.

    ReplyDelete
  52. If Cedric Rougeau leads to a New Real Americans, with Swagger and Jacques' son (who clearly grew up in Memphis), I'm all about it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  55. I work for a pretty well-known entertainment publication and met with our Social Media reps this morning. They told me we get at least 25 tweets per day from people requesting that we promote their Kickstarter/IndieGoGo whatever campaign to help make their films. We never do simply because of the sheer volume, but we still get them.

The sad part is that most of the requests are from people looking for $20,000 or more, and they don't even come close to it.

I think I ought to do a story about how young filmmakers need to find a new revenue source for their work...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Haven't seen any of them. I'm not much of a movie watcher; don't be appalled.
When I first started dating my wife, she got to me to watch the three Lord of the Ring movies; extended versions. I gave her props for taking advantage of the small window of opportunity. Would never today.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I only saw the first one of those. Knowing nothing about them I was quite disappointed that I sat through 3 hours and didn't get an ending.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I remember reading about the Melissa Joan Hart project that was like the first celebrity kickstarter or whatever to fail, and fail spectacularly. Oh it was so cringey :(

    ReplyDelete
  59. A guitar legend. BB's legacy will always be felt with rock and blues fans. RIP.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I saw Scary Movie first, then tried watching Scream. Couldn't get through it. Felt like I had already seen it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Where she walked past Kaitlyn and said "Don't you EVER interrupt me" and kaitlyn just stood there meekly?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I liked them but alot of walking. Randall put it best in Clerks 2 during the Ring/Star Wars dedate. The third one is my favorite. Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn was a pretty bas ass character.

    ReplyDelete
  63. She was trying to raise $2 million. $2 million! She doesn't have that much goodwill.

Meanwhile, Super Troopers 2 raised $4 million and they were only asking for $2 million! That's what demand gets you.

Funnily enough, I spoke to a rep for the studio doing ST2. They said they *really* didn't need the extra money from the campaign to make the movie and already had the financing in place, but it allowed them to finance a few extra bits that they otherwise couldn't afford. They mainly did it for the publicity to get the PR campaign rolling. Good for them.

    ReplyDelete
  64. For me, the perfect example of Stephism is, despite having several real athletes working for the company, Steph gets the workout DVD. And then doesn't do a bunch of the exercises, but instead watches the other girls do it and comments.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I was going to be a dick and start one of those Kickstarter/GoFundMe accounts to try and get money for a new car. I wanted to see if people were dumb/kind enough to just donate. Or my student loans, that would be smart too.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  67. Buffalo HopscotchMay 15, 2015 at 8:10 AM

Maybe if Melissa Joan Hart starred in a movie where she was pistol whipped for saying "shenanigans" too much she would have raised the $2 million.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Buffalo HopscotchMay 15, 2015 at 8:13 AM

And they'll be like Dudley Do-Right, which Vince will think all the kids will love even though hardly anyone under the age of 40 knows who that is.

    ReplyDelete
  75. How so? They had enough money to do, say, 90% of what they wanted. By raising $2 million (which ended up being $4 million), they were able to cover the remaining 10%.

Now they can do the movie they way they wanted it.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Has anyone heard this rumor that apparently Vince is going blind? It started from Reddit, but they were talking about it on one of the Observer shows this week, and there's more circumstantial evidence from the last few years than just the Reddit user's story.

WWE immediately denied it, but of course they would.

  86. The perks ranged from t-shirts and cop sunglasses, to a Broken Lizard member recording your voicemail, to a Super Trooper 2 DVD, to VIP tickets to an advance screening, all the way up to getting the patrol car used in the movie.

There was also a $100k perk that meant the Broken Lizard guys would be your kid's godfathers and a $25million perk that was a sperm donation from one of the Broken Lizard guys. Nobody claimed those.

Two other signs of Steph's ego: The company makes t-shirts for her, and she attends various PR events when it would be so much smarter to have one of the performers do it instead.

  104. I think people are a little rough on Greg Gagne. Yes, he was skinny and not the most charismatic character, but the guy was a good wrestler and alledgedly a good wrestling mind that never got utilitized because of Verne. Greg never held the World Title even with the company falling apart and Greg not going to Vince or Crockett.

Her first problem was being Melissa Joan Hart. Her second was offering terrible perks.

Actually, her main problem is trying to make a movie for $2 million which, by the plot description, could probably be made for under $100k or even $50k if she knocks out her fee.

    ReplyDelete

  111. Some actors aren't willing to do that. I cannot for the life of me remember who said it, but it was a famous actor who did well-received indie films. Eddie just thought about it for a second, and said "No, I can't do that..."

    ReplyDelete
  148. I am curious if they keep him around with Simmons gone. Obviously Bill is a big fan and pushed to have wrestling covered there.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Interesting. Though. Is their motivation for wrestling, to make more money for their decadent lifestyle?

    ReplyDelete
  150. I think Grantland will slowly die out altogether, but the first thing to go will be their non sports content, which I don't think ESPN cares about and since the site is kind of a commercial disappointment to begin with, will be the easiest to chop.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I REALLY wish they'd booked Mizdow differently. Mizdow starts to mimic Miz, so Miz starts making him wrestle in his place as a stunt double (which is allwed by a loophole because of the wording of his WWE Films contract) until Mizdow gets tired of getting beat up.

    ReplyDelete

  154. That was the huge missed opportunity.

  155. Sub Sasha for Alicia, especially because she'd be the breakout star.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Good call, I was just trying to think of someone with nothing to do right now.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I thought originally, that Nate Silver was being groomed for taking over Grantland and sort of folding it into 538

    ReplyDelete
  158. Grantland is a prestige site apparently. Meaning they want it to show ESPN has quality as well as mountains of cash.

    ReplyDelete
  159. They could even steal dialog from movies and it would fit Miz's character.

Miz: "You are an expendable asset and I USED YOU TO GET THE JOB DONE. GOT THAT?"

    Cedric= Guy who Vince wants.

  161. Yeah, but there's been some articles about their traffic and how much the site costs to staff, and it's not great.

And the indications seem to be that Simmons was still their major traffic source.

I really could see them chopping half the writers and folding Grantland back into ESPN.com as part of some type of "ESPN The Magazine Digital" site.

  163. Spike Lee is filming a movie title "Chiraq" about the violence in Chicago. People are upset that the film is going to make Chicago look bad.

Instead of, you know, being upset at the fact that Chicago is one of the most violent cities in the country.

Don't shoot the messenger, folks. Even if it is Spike "Mr. Annoying" Lee.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Or maybe Page 2.1.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I don't they would take the name off it since it has built up some cache. But I do think they will cut the staff down by a healthy amount.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Deadspin was questioning whether they even owned the name. Apparently, they never filed for a trademark on Grantland, according to them.

    ReplyDelete
  167. And one of the reasons why I stopped watching altogether.

They really could've built Miz/Mizdow as an awesome feud, but instead their blowoff happens on RAW, and not at WM. They don't even make it to a PPV.

That's the kind of stuff that makes me not bother - if you're not going to give me what I want to watch, why should I?

    ReplyDelete
  168. We don't know how much Grantland costs to run. They can make a few cuts and still get it to work probably. Especially if they're not paying Simmons 5 mil/year.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I highly doubt ESPN would miss something that basic.

    ReplyDelete
  170. True, the Simmons cut is a huge cost savings. His salary would probably fully staff the site all by itself.

    ReplyDelete
  171. They were talking about it on one of their podcasts. Not sure of the validity of it.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Spike will also probably look at how horribly segregated Chicago is, with predictable results re: poverty and its attendant woes.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Hey! This is America dammit. We blame other people for our problems and if we don't get what we want we sue.

    ReplyDelete
  174. "It's so violent in Chicago because it's segregated and the white people make all the money. The black people are just angry at the white people so that's why they kill one another over drugs territories and their control."

-paraphrasing from what Spike will say

    ReplyDelete
  175. There was definitely a tone shift in his columns after he got the blessing of Triple H.

But that doesn't quite bother as much as it does others. I don't know what it is about him, just not a fan.

    ReplyDelete
  176. This stable is still about 5-7 years away. Pop culture and Vince.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Well I was expecting to see the offspring of Jacques and Pierre, but this dude at least isn't FAT (TM Scott Steiner) like Pierre. Yeah, he's going to get a million chances in WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Then you might have a bit of a problem. Because in order to work, Miz would have to get over. Which...I just don't think he ever will.

    ReplyDelete
  179. It's probably his writing - he comes across as somewhat factual dealing with topics that are opinion-based. That could turn some people off when it comes to comparing events.

    ReplyDelete
  180. It's pretty close to what's going on, subbing "angry at the white people" with "stuck in places with horrific poverty, little work outside the drug trade, crumbling infrastructure and an education system not geared toward employment".

    ReplyDelete
  181. And even now. When did that show last have an episode? Started in 04 and finished about 4 years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  182. People who state opinions as fact are the worst people. Along with rapists and murderers. And terrorists. MURICA!

Kind of excited for The Miz to return. Was watching 09-11 PPVs and its shocking how over he was at that point. Just this perpetual nuclear heat machine.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Pretty spot on. I once went to a press conference with Lee and he pointed out something I thought was really valid for a guy who's usually full of hot air:

Young kids in the ghetto see three avenues out: playing ball, rapping, or selling drugs. Most aren't talented enough to play ball or rap, so they're stuck with the third option.

    ReplyDelete
  185. This is awesome.

  186. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 15, 2015 at 9:08 AM

We don't know if we don't want him yet. He could be awesome. Right now, he's green as turtle shit. Let's not turn on him before we even see him wrestle.

    ReplyDelete
  187. He also fell into the Simmons trap of creating some absurd "theory" and forcing everything into it. Every article became about the Reality Era. That combined with the Triple H visit is when it all started to fall apart.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Dave Chappelle had a funny line like that (maybe a rip off who knows) when he talked about going back to talk at his old high school.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I think the stable as a whole gets over. Miz just has to be a douchebag, which is the one thing he can do. His interactions with the different members of Team Miz, if done right would be fantastic.

And a couple of those guys would absolutely breakout from doing that role.

Yeah, it's a stable surrounding Miz, but in reality, you're using it to get over a bunch of guys who have nothing to do right now.

    ReplyDelete
  190. The major cause of crime, at least from what I've seen is young men with nothing to do.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Well now there's a movie coming out, so Vince may be either more or less inclined to find out what it is. We'll have to see.

    ReplyDelete
  192. The awful movie everyone is trying to pretend doesn't exist comes out this year, I believe.
