HHH: A "proud papa" to the new generation of wrestlers

How can you not love this man with the heat of a thousand suns?

-J (an unbiased Triple-H fan)

Yeah, but don't forget that guys like Baron Corbin and Mojo Rawley are also under his watch.

  1. Who's the one star??? AJ?

  2. "Yeah, but don't forget that guys like Baron Corbin and Mojo Rawley are also under his watch."

Is he supposed to turn every talent/character/gimmick into an A+ winner? I mean, can't we agree there's more good than bad in terms of what's being developed?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I think that's still a pretty solid track record overall, and it's not like they're pushing Mojo down our throats going over more talented guys every week, and they've kept Corbin away from the NXT Title picture. Just like a sports GM's ability to draft talent, all you can ask for is more hits than misses, and so far I think he's done well.

    ReplyDelete
  4. While not one of the top women yet, I think they've got something with Alexa Bliss as a heel. Great look and what I thought was a very good backstage promo this week. If she can go at all in the ring, she could be Trish 2.0.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Besides Punk, hingsight has nothing to do with it. TNA had their chances to sign all of those guys plus tons of others that have signed elsewhere. Heck they couldn't even keep their own talent like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Bad Influence, Chris Sabin, Young Bucks, Bully Ray, Doc Gallows, Jay Lethal, Hernandez, Rhino, and more. All of those guys are thriving in other companies right now. It seems like TNA enjoys low balling their roster when contract negotiations come up. There is a trend that it is happening more and more lately.

Heyman wanted to run TNA with Daniel Bryan as the main star, but Dixie and Co. declined and instead threw millions of dollars at Hogan and Bischoff.

  6. This argument is dumb. It's like saying that abc is stupid for not putting Jerry Seinfeld in Perfect Strangers.

    ReplyDelete
  7. A couple WWE castoff a were justified.

Angles don't grow on trees and Jeff Hardy was at Cena levels of merch sales at one point.

    ReplyDelete
  8. nice story

    tell it to readers digest

    ReplyDelete
  9. As long as he and his wife keep on making themselves the centre of attention on the main show, HHH can suck a dick.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Haters gonna hate.

    ReplyDelete
  11. "I mean, can't we agree there's way more good than bad in terms of what's being developed?"

    I'd say it's about 50/50.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Re: guys like Corbin and Mojo...so the fuck what? That's one of the things that's great about pro wrestling, the variety of body types and sizes, variety of characters, wrestling styles, etc. And like Miko said, it isn't like those guys are being pushed to the moon.

Not everyone's gonna pan out. For that matter not all of the blue-chippers will always pan out. Even before his injury Itami wasn't exactly lighting the world ablaze.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I predicted Punk back then...just saying

    ReplyDelete
  14. "What's the deal with the car pool lane?"

    "Don't be ridiculous"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Like second local show I went to was him and Cabana putting on a show after punk did like a 10 minute promo drawing crazy heat on the juggalo part of the crowd there. I was so anti juggalo that it was half way into the match before I realized...oh...he is the heel here..

    ReplyDelete
  16. At the end of the day, those are Vince's decisions. I do agree HHH and Steph could try to force the issue a bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I said in a previous thread that the shoulder injury may be the best thing for him. He wasn't really connecting with the audience, and he looked like a nobody compared to Balor when they teamed up. This will give him time to work on promo skills and other ancillary stuff that will help him with the crowds.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There is a Good HHH and a Bad HHH

    Good HHH:
-Puts over Daniel Bryan at WM
-Builds a full-fledged performance center and AAA league that is now arguable the best wrestling show on the planet
    -Takes women's wrestling seriously
-Signed indy darlings Zayn, Owens, Balor, Itami, and Samoa Joe and putting them over consistently in real life
    -Rebuilding the tag team division

    Bad HHH
    -On television WAY TOO MUCH
-What was the point of going over Sting?!?!
    -Stephanie
-also, on television WAY TOO MUCH
-Did I mention he was on TV way too much?
    -Stephanie
-Taking heat on television from actual in ring talent.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bringing them in? Sure. Keep re-signing them after multiple drunken, drugged out things? Nah

    ReplyDelete
  20. I predicted Sonny Siaki and Chris Harris to be WWE World Champions and I still stand by those predictions

    ReplyDelete
  21. This nerd gets it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. yeah I was watching some old heel Trish stuff from 04, Bliss needs to check those tapes out.

    ReplyDelete
  23. In fairness, who DIDN'T look at Siaki and think "Money."

    ReplyDelete
  24. I called him Money Siaki because I was pretty clever back then

  25. Stranger In The AlpsMay 29, 2015 at 7:22 AM

TNA could have signed any of these NXT guys at any time, but it probably would not have made a difference. TNA's issues were not the roster, it was pretty much everything else from management to accounting to promotion to you name it.

Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, Finn Balor......they would have been wasted by this dumbfuck of a company. Cesaro would be pretty much where he is right now because he doesn't connect with the audience.

Owens on talk is Jericho this morning.... Interview begins at the 18:40 mark.

    ReplyDelete
  27. back in like 99 (maybe 2000) I predicted Edge and Jeff Hardy would be headlining WM in like 3 years...I at least got the right guys from those teams to end up headlining to at some level.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'd like to know how many hours of my life I've wasted watching Triple H promos from episodes of RAW. 20+ minutes times X amount of weeks = INFINITY!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I very much enjoy this false narrative that the problem with TNA was that the roster didn't have enough indie darlings.

The roster was literally the only thing the got right for ten years.

I love Jericho but his openings are not good. Austin's opens are light years more fun

    ReplyDelete
  34. You just argued against the best show ever so...that didn't work. Although TGIF might not be the best venue for "The Contest"

    ReplyDelete
  35. You know what would have totally saved TNA?

Signing John Cena before WWE did.

    ReplyDelete
  36. They should have signed Vince McMahon to run the company

    ReplyDelete
  37. Aye. The story is one of wasted talent, not of them lacking talent.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I always throught Bret was the star of the Hart Foundation. They all told me I was mad! Mad!

    ReplyDelete
  39. You adopted children? Good for you! It's a very noble thing to do to give a child a home.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm getting pretty tired of all this, "Things will be so great when HHH & Stephanie are in charge" bullshit. What world are we living in? They ARE in charge.

Like if Triple H & Stephanie were really sooooo concerned with women's wrestling on Raw (which has been a joke for like 10 years), they would've done something by now.

  44. Then how can you promote a father life hack if you haven't done the hacking yourself?!

    ReplyDelete
  45. THIS nerd gets it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agreed. But in fairness, there are HOFers who might look like nobodies compared to Finn. That might've been the worst thing for him, teaming those two up when Finn came in.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Any of those guys would probably have jobbed to Hogan anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I meant HHH!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Even the "WWE Castoffs" make sense. Angle, Jeff, RVD, EC3... even Anderson looked like a ton of raw potential.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think the amount of time they've been on TV since Mania has been just fine. Yeah, there's a few overly long promos here and there but they've been off several shows entirely and haven't been nearly the focal point they were for much of last year.

But as always, keep in mind I am an unabashed HHH apologist.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Talented young indy stars
WWE castoffs that still have something left
Big name legends like Sting, Hogan, Flair

That really is all you could EVER need to run a successful promotion

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ohhhhhh...completely over my head!

Although, in my defense, dudes post random stuff on here all the time. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. He also made Shield look great last spring.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think Sting was the only guy who actually moved the needle for them (his first appearance boosted them from like .8 to the 1.1 they became accustomed to)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah, good luck with that! I'm off to the daily update!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Good looking out.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Kevin Owens is my favourite wrestler right now, now that DB is on the shelf. They've done such a good job pushing him that I can't even visualize him getting pinned.

I swear, if Cena is the one to do it...

    ReplyDelete
  66. For real though, this is why we can't have nice things. Believe it or not they pay attention to what us smark internet geeks have to say, which is largely why they've thrown us the bone that is NXT. They're obviously trying to appeal to a wider audience but they do care what we think too.

So when we still whine like this- like, who fucking cares in 2015 what they were doing with then women's division in 2005 when the talent they're training now is fucking amazing?- they see that shit and take the opinions of their hardcore base audience a lot less seriously then they otherwise would.
Legit criticism is fine and even necessary, but stop whining like a bitch over shit that doesn't even matter.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Stranger In The AlpsMay 29, 2015 at 7:47 AM

I'm so glad they have Kane around to just plug in to any empty spot they may have on the card.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Just kinda noticed. No biggie; figure it's 8/3.

Feeding animals now, then napping. My fucking body clock still thinks being awake til about 4am is the way to go, while the Hoss zoo thinks breakfast has to be between 8a-9a Hosstime.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I said pretty much the same thing during the NXT thread; the part about KO being my fave.

I really can't see Cena pinning him clean, but would it really be a surprise?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Um, if they're having Brock back in Japan, they need to make that a Big Show match.

    ReplyDelete
  72. To quote Mr Blonde, if they hadn't done what I told 'em not to do, they'd still be alive.

    ReplyDelete
  73. It wouldn't be a surprise but it would leave a bad taste, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I get the feeling that Kofi read this update, then immediately said "aw, HELL NO."

    ReplyDelete
  75. My god, Kofi's going to die in Japan!

    ReplyDelete
  76. OH I JUST REALIZED I HAVE OTHER PLANS

    ReplyDelete
  77. Stranger In The AlpsMay 29, 2015 at 7:49 AM

When the Cena-Owens match was first announced, I had no problem with Cena pinning Owens, just as long as Owens looked strong in the loss. I figured Owens will get his shot down the road.

Now that he has all this awesome momentum going on, Owens needs to be protected. Owens should get DQ'd for kicking too much ass or something.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm not so sure though. Vince has created a culture and template for how he wants to run things. He is the final say when it comes to RAW and their big events. Stephanie and HHH have a big say in that too, but how things are run is established by Vince and he started it years before Steph and HHH had anything to do with it.

HHH has done a lot right outside of that culture, things that are brand new. Performance center, NXT, even minor things like mending fences with Bruno.

It seems as is Vince has certainly lost touch with his audience, the Austin podcast seemed to really confirm that. But he is a workaholic and dedicated. His leadership in the company has never been questioned.

You can't change the entire direction of a company in a week, especially when the head of it believes that the current way is the right way of doing things.

    ReplyDelete
  79. That Japan house show should be on the Network.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Stranger In The AlpsMay 29, 2015 at 7:50 AM

Yeah, because no one told him. Kofi gets his news from the BoD. That's pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  81. One more thought about TNA's "roster issues:"

People act like letting Daniels/Kaz/AJ go is like some giant fatal mistake, while conveniently ignoring that those guys had been in TNA longer than Hulk Hogan was in WWF. Exactly how many times would you like to see AJ vs Daniels anyways? A hundred times?

Then in the same breath they'll say the big mistake was not hiring Paul Heyman and giving him full booking and roster control. He was vocal that if he got hired "anybody over 35 is gone." Which would include the AJ/Kaz/Daniels group as well as Roode and Storm.

So which one is it? You can't have both.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Stranger In The AlpsMay 29, 2015 at 7:53 AM

Also of note: Sheamus has reportedly been cast as Rocksteady in the TMNT sequel.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I think it would be cool to have Owens win the belt and demand that Cena or anyone come to NXT to win in back. Sort of continue the open challenge on NXT. I like keeping it as a separate entity, but something like that might be interesting

  93. Random quirk about soccer - calling exhibition matches "friendlies" has to be the wussiest thing they do.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Can't have both? you are talking to wresting fans you know

    ReplyDelete
  95. Cricket. I just can't even. I find baseball boring and that's 3 hours. Cricket can be 5 days. My only sports are soccer, UFC and wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  96. So Jeff Jarrett, Jim Duggan and Lance Hoyt were at a local minor league baseball game last night promoting GFW. I was there and figured what the heck and went to meet them. There were like 5 people in line so I got to have long-ish conversations with them all, and they were in good spirits and pleasant. Jeff seemed relieved that he met a person willing to pay money to see his fed.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hopefully they give Owens a pay bump for working on the main roster.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  111. Good point. In fact, I was puzzled when ROH announced that AJ/Joe vs Daniels/Kazarian match the other day. I would be perfectly happy not seeing them wrestle each other for a few more years

I'm kinda worried my backup plan could be a more romantic-type setting than I'd like for a second date, it's one of those old-timey Italian restuarants. I'm probably overthinking things because this is the first time in, like, ever that I've dated someone that I didn't first already know, was friends with, worked with, etc.

Looking at the topics of this update, I can only imagine the question was "Who are three people who could kick the ass of anyone on this blog?"

    ReplyDelete
  145. You can divide our season into 3 pretty distinct chunks. The first ten games when nothing clicked and we were rubbish. The mid season when we lost like 2 in 25 and looked solid and at times great, and then the end of the season where the title was gone and we just couldn't be bothered. I'm confident enough in that middle section that we can challenge next year

  159. Hey, I'm just saying it's not like HHH has some godlike eye for talent, because he's whiffed on his share of stuff. Signing Prince Devitt wasn't exactly spotting a diamond in the rough, ya know? #keepingitreal #justsayin #thanksobama

There's a lot of Parks & Recreation on TV in the mornings. I like it.

"Rusev killed a moose and ate it"

"Brock Lesnar helped a lady cross the street, then f-5'd her."

"Kevin Owens smashed a bottle over his own head, then tilted a pinball machine."

  164. So is Owens going to pull double duty for Main Roster/NXT, or does Joe or Balor take the belt off him?

I don't read the NXT spoilers (and don't really want to know), but I assume the Owens didn't lose the belt in the four episodes they taped right after Takeover.

So he'd carry it at least until the next tapings, or maybe he just works both shows for a while.

  165. You should go on yelp or whatever and find a hole in the wall eatery that has AMAZING food, particularly whatever her favourite cuisine is. It could be like an adventure, trying a new and quirky place plus it shows you're making an effort based on her interests (in this case, her fave dishes).

  166. I guess he could technically lose it on a RAW or WWE PPV, too.

I'd be shocked if they take the title off of him on anything less than a Takeover special, and the next one doesn't happen for a few months. Since they only tape NXT once every four weeks or so, he's free on Monday nights.

  169. Jericho vs Balor is also on that card. Yeah, they really need to put that on the network.

Yes. Yelp has helped Mrs. Stranger and myself find cool new places to eat.

Like this Salvadoran restaurant just down the street from us. God DAMN those street tacos were excellent.

  172. Aye. Some real wasted time watching United in the last month or so of the season

  173. I guess it depends on what the do with him. If he's just going to work RAWs and WWE PPVs but stay on the NXT house show circuit, then they don't have a big issue. He can carry feuds simultaneously across the two brands. If he goes on the main roster tour, then it becomes an issue, because you have NXT shows without the champion.

  175. Just witnessed a dude trying to explain the word "thug" to us. According to him, because of Baltimore, It has a new meaning: it exclusively means "black person" and is a "racial slur" which is "bad as the n-word".

And, ironically, he was practically told to fuck himself by a black dude.

  176. Further Owens fantasy booking: Doing a thing similar to what they did with Itami, but with Rusev. Make it seem like Owens took him out for his spot. In a few months, when Rusev is healthy, have Owens being a dick to Lana in the ring. Rusev makes his return and the save and turns babyface.

So does HHH hide KO in closet until it's time for his segments to keep him away from Vince and his wacky ideas?

  179. I have a hard time believing he's going to do much business with these ballpark tours. Not even really sure why he's doing them to be honest. Didn't this strategy fail for TNA a year or so ago?

  180. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarMay 29, 2015 at 8:36 AM

There are a lot less NXT house shows than other WWE shows, so it might be possible for him to split his time.

And how has NXT not scheduled a show at the Hammerstein or another small NYC venue?

  183. Of those five guys (AJ, Daniels, Kaz, Roode, Storm), only Daniels was over 35 at the time Heyman was talking to TNA. So yeah, they could have had both.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I'd be shocked if they don't do a TV taping at Hammerstein before the end of the year.

But, from what I've heard, WWE is insistent on keeping NXT's budget as shoestring as possible so maybe they don't want to pay for it.
