Yeah, he's not turning heel.

And keep in mind that those 500 Make-A-Wish grants are just the ones he WANTS us to know about.  He does way, WAY, more charitable stuff that he keeps quiet on purpose.  Basically donating entire trucks full of toys to children's hospitals and personally delivering them.  Say what you will about the character, but the real person makes us all look like Hitler by comparison.

I don't wanna be THAT guy, but, it's not just what you do but WHY you do it. I respect John as a man, so I hope he does all this crazy charity work out of the (mostly) pure goodness of his heart, and not just because politically he knows it's smart, or something like that. I don't think it is...but you never know.

    ReplyDelete
  2. If he was just doing it for "political" reasons he could get by doing maybe 25% of what he does now.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I remember Cena remarking once that his personal life would be easier if he were a heel because he wouldn't be asked to do all these stuff for kids. Of course, he actually enjoys doing it.

Frankly, I'm fine with Cena in his new role in his own little universe defending the U.S. title. He gets to be champion, he isn't the main focus of the show, and he's putting on solid matches with good talent.

I know, hence why I don't really think it's a selfish motivation. But I never put nothin' past nobody.

  5. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 20, 2015 at 7:18 AM

The man has millions in the bank, is the top guy in the top company in his profession 10 years running. Why would he need to be politically smart at this point?

His character might be cheesy as shit sometimes, but man, as the years go on, the more I like the goofball.

    ReplyDelete
  6. This is why I've stopped complaining about Cena. That, and he's jobbed to some of my favorites like Punk, Bryan, and BROCK.

    ReplyDelete
  7. How much of this did he do before the company requested him to? I'm not taking away the good of what he's done, but still. He's in a much better position to do this stuff than 99% of people, not to mention there's a huge upside to doing it for PR reason relating to WWE.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I've never had a problem with Cena the man as he sounds like an intelligent, well-meaning guy during interviews and whatever.

I just hate him as a wrestling character.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I can't imagine meeting that many sick kids and not have an emotional attachment to it. You'd have to be a sociopath to just do it for PR purposes.

    ReplyDelete
  10. He could do 25% of what he does and still be the top wish-granter by a country mile. You don't overdo it like he does unless you genuinely enjoy doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. So? The more he does, the more WWE can annoyingly try and hold this as some type of moral blackmail over his haters.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This. The article mentions that he has more than double make a wish things than the #2 guy

    ReplyDelete
  13. If it was strictly political, then he'd be all about letting everyone know. The fact that he does MORE and doesn't tell people about it shows you he's real about this.

Don't care what anyone says - delivering trucks of toys to children's hospitals is never not awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Theberzerker, #1 HUSS CHOMPIONMay 20, 2015 at 7:26 AM

Yup, and I know a few of those...I'm sure you do too. Not to that level though.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, WWE forces Cena to spend hundreds of hours of his time and his thousands of his personal fortune to grant all these wishes just to piss off Anti-Cena fans.

Do you think before you type things?

    ReplyDelete
  16. And this is only the stuff that's reported.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think even WWE realizes that intelligent people are able to differentiate between John Cena the wrestling character and John Cena the man.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Theberzerker, #1 HUSS CHOMPIONMay 20, 2015 at 7:29 AM

Agreed. I admire anyone who willingly takes on that level of responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Has he not said and already proved that WWE is his life anyway? And I didn't even say that he did it entirely for PR reasons, just that that was a possible motivation and definitely an upside to it in WWE's favor.

    ReplyDelete
  20. YOU CAN'T SEE ME... unless you're a sick child, then I'll totally come and spend time with you.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Finally got around to watching Payback, and Christ...another Cena win over Russev???

This just reeks Cena/Batista 2010 with Cena not only getting the WM win, but then killing the other guys momentum and character the following 2 months.

What kind of actual pull does he have in terms of him winning or losing? I understand you WANT to be on top and look good getting wins, but shit dude. Atleast take the Extreme Rules loss

    ReplyDelete
  22. But didn't Batista leave in 2010? What momentum did he need? He jobbed on his way out, as he should have.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He's far and away the wrestler who has done this the most - even past Hogan, and Hogan's popularity was insane.

I've kinda wondered if him being in the US title program is some sort of small sign that his body is wearing down, but if he's spending more time doing this stuff, then I'm all for it.

WWE may benefit from it in some way, but they're not the ones he's doing it for, it seems, so they can have their indirect victories while the kids (and Cena) are the biggest winners.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah this is true. When Punk turned face just after Mania I would have put very good money on him winning the Rumble and going on to Main Event Mania and as you said they even started planting seeds there and then.

The problem for Punk - as it was for everybody else - was that Bryan took off so huge that Summer that come the Rumble the fans simply weren't going to accept anybody other than him coming out of Mania on top.

No doubt Punk would have gone down better than Batista but make no mistake the fans wanted Bryan and only Bryan.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I shouldnt have mentioned Batista momentum, cause you are right he was on his way out. But his losses were embarrassing and ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cena's definitely winding down his in-ring schedule a bit whether WWE admits it or not. He generally doesn't do Smackdown (and hasn't for the last 2+ years) and he does less house shows than he used to (especially last year when he filmed 2 movies).

    ReplyDelete
  27. He's been on top or close to on top for the better part of 10+ years, minus injury (and even then his rehab was pretty quick).

That's a long time for this, even if it's gotten safer overall. I can see him doing maybe 2 more years and transitioning into more of an Undertaker-type character. Shoot, when you think about Reigns' failure, it affects Cena a lot.

    ReplyDelete

    U.S. Flag bikini, duh

    ReplyDelete
  29. I still can't get over how bad he made Miz look right after their WM match by talking to him like he was some average joe that wasn't up to his level, even after Miz had been booked as a great heel for months.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 3 months was more than enough time to promote Batista being back. After all, the goal of bringing him back wasn't to pop a buyrate for RR or boost house numbers; it was to get people talking going into WM and beyond (had it worked out that way). Remember, the only reason the WWE acknowledged that Batista was coming back before the Rumble was because someone dropped the ball and spilled the beans through house show advertisements.

That said, yeah, he may not have gotten as negative a reaction had he been a complete surprise, but that crowd wanted Bryan and even Austin wouldn't have gotten a warm reception once it was clear Bryan wasn't gonna be in the Rumble.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Of course Triple H isn't as high on Cena as Vince is. Because Triple H is the best at wrestling.

All kidding aside, I think Cena's time as a full-timer will wrap up way before Vince is out. Remember, Vince is only 69. He could work another ten years if he wants to.

    ReplyDelete
  32. But...if roughly half the fans at live shows and their interpretation of his theme music can be believed, John Cena sucks...

    ReplyDelete
  33. This. Lana turning face feels a lot like another "THIS IS A GOOD PERSON NOW NOW CHEER THEM THEY'RE YOUR NEW FAVORITE CHEER THEM DAMMIT" Vince Special that hasn't been thought out at all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lana sure as hell ain't no Sasha Banks.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nope. The thing is, Vince is totally fine with not being on TV. I don't get that vibe from Stephanie. She wants to be in the spotlight and doesn't realize it hurts the product.

Again, we're talking about a woman who puts out a workout DVD despite employing dozens of women with much more experience with fitness, puts out multiple t-shirts for her on-screen character, and thinks booking herself against the most dangerous woman on the planet makes logical sense.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't have the need for Cena to turn heel, but at least have him be actually vulnerable from time to time. Rusev was rolling, but one quick feud with Cena and he's George South.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it's ion everyone's best interest for him to go part-time. Fans will be more fond if he's not always around, he gets more time to live life, and other guys more TV time, and at the same time he'll be around enough to remain popular enough to do more of the MAW stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This. Maybe in the 80s when Hogan wrestled 2 times a month, it gave guys a rub to be in the ring with him, but Cena wrestles every week. He's wrestled probably everyone in the company. "Just being in the ring with the guy gives you a rub" is a fallacy and a relic of an era long since passed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I literally don't know one person, in RL or online, who bought that DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ziggler and Rusev both being in the IC title Chamber match is screaming "red herring", but I'm just being optimistic.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It didn't even work for Hogan. Jake the Snake mentioned on the Sheik documentary that you were ruined once you worked with Hogan. Basically it's back down to midcard act for you.

The thing you WANTED to be was Hogan's buddy. You'd still be an overshadowed midcarder, but you'd beat all the other midcarders and get a pretty decent pop.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think Rusev is that bad (now Ryder, THERE'S a guy who got buried after his interaction with Saint Cena). If Rusev wins the EC match or even MITB, he can still recover.

It's not just the matches against Cena, it's how these guys are booked afterwards, and most times they're just like "Welp, couldn't beat Cena, so I guess we got nuthin' else for you".

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's a shame that other than his music most people today think of him as a skirt-chaser and don't remember his civil rights work.

It's the same thing with Charlton Heston. He probably did more to support Civil Rights than any other white actor in Hollywood in the 1960s. But more people today think of him for being a gun nut (due in part to Michael Moore's selective editing, of course).

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm trying to remember the failed Vince projects from 96 what were being pushed while Austin floundered in the midcard. I shudder to think what would have happened if Vince didn't have competition at that point.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Then you need to watch the GIF of Mysterio strapped to a backboard and tossed into the ring post. That'll cheer you up.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He was the rare breed that had the power to correct an injustice and actually did it.

It's amazing to me that he still remained popular, knowing full well that stances like the ones he took could've ended his career, but he also had a great supporting cast in the Rat Pack.

That's what makes human history so complex and fascinating - people do so many good/bad things, that it's difficult to say "I can't root for him because of all the wrong he did, but he secretly gave millions to the needy and cooked meals for the homeless, so I guess that makes him OK".

I can still appreciate what Cena does when he's not in the ring, while still annoyed with him about other things he's done both in and out of the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Considering that her husband put out a fitness DVD for guys, it seems a logical step for his wife to do the one for women, especially considering that most women watching WWE are going to be closer to the physical shape of a non-athlete than a pro wrestler.

She had two shirts and one was a 100% charity deal.

She's a mark for and friend of Rousey's. Hardly the only wrestling personality to want to book themselves to work with people they fanboy (or fangirl) for.

And Steph "debuted" in 1999, was gone by 2003 and made only occasional appearances until 2013. For someone who loves to be on TV can't stay away, seems to me the calendar shows she has no trouble staying away. She clearly doesn't MIND being on TV and for whatever reason, Authority-less Raws tend to do lower ratings, so if you want to blame someone, blame the people who don't watch unless the heel authority figures that hate all the faces and all the heels and several of their own employees (?) and themselves (???) are around.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Next thing you know he'll stick Lana with Roman Reigns for no reason and scratch his head when he can't figure out why fans aren't into this sexy couple.

    ReplyDelete
  49. R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.May 20, 2015 at 8:11 AM

WM Main Event > Death Tumor on Back

    ReplyDelete
  50. I would not be surprised in the absolute slightest.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The weird thing is the fans are super into it. But yeah, I have no idea what you do next with her.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I admire Heston's work in that regard, but yeah, I'm not enthused with the gun stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We still believe that we can work our way to Heaven. Even the atheist thinks - I am a good person - even my deeds would be enough. But we are saved only by grace through faith and not of works - lest we boast. While faith without works is dead, one must be saved to want to do good works rather than do good works on their own. Our own righteousness is filthy rags.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Because who would? WWE's audience is largely male, and of the female fans they're generally either into Divas like AJ or Paige and/or they're not exactly the working out type (more the concession stand type, know what I mean?)

On top of that, while I wouldn't kick Steph out of bed for eating crackers, how many women would point to her and say she has their ideal body type?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sure, but I mean, theoretically, in terms of public perception at least, you could make the argument that if this guy who never wrestles chooses to step off the throne and wrestle YOU, then YOU look like a big deal.

With 5+ hours of TV a week, the only guy who can maybe, maybe give that kind of rub anymore is Lesnar and that's because Lesnar is smart and doesn't think it's worth the time and effort to go wrestle bullshit no-finish Raw matches every week.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Agreed with some, but the TLC victory was sandwiched around Cena treating Ziggler like a jobber. Also, while I don't blame him directly, he could've helped Ryder out a lot more than he ended up doing in their team-up.

Definitely like what he's doing now, though - only hope whomever gets the US title keeps the "open challenge" program going, because it's actually kinda compelling.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think they can print a few fucking tshirts and design all the graphics they'll need given a week, let alone two months.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well, TBF, they followed a formula for years - heel midcarder goes on a rampage, gets sent up to Hogan, Hogan sells for a while before figuring out a way to beat him, zillions made, pushed back down to midcard, rinse, lather, repeat.

No one was replacing Hogan at the top, so it didn't matter who was facing him - there was no endgame of being "bigger" than Hogan moreso than it was making a lot of money during that time.

    ReplyDelete
  59. As they should have been. He was the asshole heel who was leaving, and thus he got his comeuppance.

    ReplyDelete

    Vader?
    Jake?
    Mero?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have no problem with Cena right, wrestling character or otherwise. Clearly he's a good guy. Cena's doing more with the US title than anyone has in about five years and has had great, competitive matches with a load of new guys. No downside, in my view.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  63. So this is the best thing you can think of to spread the word? You're not out actually helping anyone in your community or achieving anything meaningful; you're talking to people on a wrestling blog.

I'm sure Jesus is all like "Whoa, we better make sure the gates are open WIDE for this guy."

    ReplyDelete
  64. I wish it would stop being so jingoistic, but beyond that it's been pretty good. "Hey you, let's fight" is a good reason to fight.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sinatra just palling around with Sammy Davis Jr. alone did a lot for Civil Rights. It put a black man on the same level as himself during an era when many people didn't see the races as equal.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Awesomeness from Google Adsense: As we're having this discussion about Cena granting wishes to terminally ill children, I get ads for "Clear Your Criminal Record for Life!" from federal pardon services. Clearly they know something about Cena we don't.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Guess this brings a new meaning to "You can't see me".

    ReplyDelete
  68. R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.May 20, 2015 at 8:21 AM

    Fair enough counterpoint.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have no idea how that happened, either. Are we sure the didn't Pavlov the We Want Lana chants by piping them in to kickstart it?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Is Cena standing a set distance from these children's hospitals?

    ReplyDelete
  71. And that's fair. But yeah, it's not right to ignore all of his support for Civil Rights simply because he also fought for guns rights.

I saw something on Reddit the other day on how Pacquiao spent the days after the fight working at a children's clinic. Half the comments were "Yeah but he cheated on his wife so he's a scumbag."

One doesn't cancel out the other, but it's possible to respect someone for one thing while at the same time dislike the same person for something else. It's not a zero-sum game.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Groucho Dr. Facts MarxMay 20, 2015 at 8:21 AM

Apparently federal pardon services can't see Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh yeah, and the 'you want some, come get some' catchphrase is lame, but the matches are good so who cares.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Favio, The Baby PuncherMay 20, 2015 at 8:22 AM

"[x] can easily be rebuilt anyway by [y]"

Again, how often do we say this, and how often does it actually happen in today's WWE?

    ReplyDelete
  75. And that was the same formula used with great sucess during the Sammartino, Morales and Backlund reigns. The midcard was of little importance, it almost just served as a tool to build-up big-time heels to be fed to the then-current Champion and then be sent down the card. It's the Meat Machine anology.

    ReplyDelete
  76. YOU CAN'T CLEAR ME!

    ReplyDelete
  77. And people got with the program, because they made a ton of money off it. At that point there was an established pecking order and everyone knew their role.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Unless I am mistaken he didn't even want Make A wish to be public but Make A Wish actually wanted him too.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Adsense tends to get its ads from things you have searched for... are you sure you were "out of town" recently?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I've already detailed why a Steph fitness DVD makes no sense. It targets maybe -- maybe! -- 5% of WWE's audience. And I think that's generous.

She's had more than two shirts. "Steph! Steph! Steph!" and "Steph for business", and neither of those are for charity.

Just because Steph is a mark for Rousey doesn't mean she should waste a potential Rousey match on her. It's unrealistic and pushing the wrong talent.

As for being obsessed with being on TV, I am talking about Stephanie McMahon currently, who has been an on-screen heel authority character -- with little interruption -- for two years at this point, with only one obvious moment of comeuppance (when Vickie Guererro beat her)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Too bad you are damned to hell.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well, Dean Ambrose jobbed to light fixtures repeatedly all last year and two weeks of being strongly pushed led to him being a super over ME babyfafe again...so last week?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Also :: Caliber joke goes here because Cracked ::

    ReplyDelete
  84. He was moonlighting as "Keith Scott", world-renowned bionic janitor.

    ReplyDelete
  85. John Cena the person = a great guy, committed as hell to the business, spending a ridiculous amount of time making kids happy.

John Cena the character = boring and badly in need of an overhaul.

That said, the former is probably why the latter won't happen. They can't turn him heel and have him going for 1,000 make-a-wish wishes at the same time, they don't seem to understand he could do both.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Scotsman catching Caliber ripping off a Cracked list might be my all-time favorite BoD post. I haven't seen that much backpedaling since I saw a unicyclist in the circus.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Keith Scott got killed by his brother in Season 3 of One Tree Hill :-(

    ReplyDelete
  88. So much this. Humans are intelligent - we can discern events as they happen instead of just throwing people into a "good" or "bad" box.

It's how I felt about Benoit - yes, what he did was horrible, but he did do some good in the ring.

    ReplyDelete
  89. The Steph x3 shirt was for charity and I'd like to know what other shirts she's had. I can only recall one, the white SMH one from over a decade ago and if you're upset about that still...

Rousey's not gonna wrestle anyone, so it's a moot point.

And yeah, that the Authority never gets comeuppance is a problem, but also not something Steph-exclusive.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I first read that as "Since I was a unicyclist in a circus"

I am going to keep thinking that is what it said anyway because it is funnier.

To your point that was a great one... and was about the only time Scotsman has ever posted here (as Scotsman)

    ReplyDelete
  91. I used to watch that show with the Mrs. - until it got too dumb for me to follow.

And this coming from a guy who has seasons 1 and 2 of "Sledge Hammer!"

    ReplyDelete
  92. This isn't going to be a popular point, but I don't think he needs to go heel. The Open Challenge has freshened up his character, IMO, made him more vulnerable (somewhat), and gives you something to look forward to.

    ReplyDelete
  93. "Well Billy, the reason I hit Roman Reigns in the face with a chair is... you know how you're angry with God for making you sick? It's like that".

    ReplyDelete
  94. It was fine until season 4... then they jumped the timeline 4 years
and it just got worse and worse... they would jump the timeline 3 more
times before it was over... I don't think reality has caught up to the
    year it ended. Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I agree. Just *anything* different is good. I don't think it's going far enough, though, not yet, as he's still basically #cenawinslol

If he'd quit against Rusev, now THAT would have been interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yeah, the Open Challenge has been a very cool aspect of the character and, most importantly, ensures that he ISN'T the focus of the shows.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I would just say "I hit Reigns in the face with a chair because he sucks and his hair isn't even real".

I'd be a SuperCena fan forever if he said that on RAW.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Plus, why not have both? Dude likes doing it. It's awesome, but given that its tied to making more money for the company that has made him a multi multi millionaire, why wouldn't he do the PR thing as well?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Frankly he could just say he hit Reigns in the face with a chair.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Every super villain needs a superhero: If Cena is the one guy Rusev can't beat cleanly, that's fine. I fully expect Rusev to turn Dolph Ziggler inside out, though.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Favio, The Baby PuncherMay 20, 2015 at 8:43 AM

I just hate the idea that a heel supposedly can't do the MAW stuff as well as a babyface. I know that if I was sick as a kid I would have marked out if Mr. Perfect or Bobby Heenan came into my hospital room and started doing heel schtick with me.

Still, Cena's a good dude. I don't think anyone with a brain can dispute that. And Sinatra was such a badass for his day, and it's a shame that most people our age only know about him from the SNL impressions.

    ReplyDelete
  102. He is a good guy but it's not like most of us could afford to donate trucks full of toys, nor would most kids care about us delivering them personally. He's just a rich celebrity who happens to be not a dick, probably.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Agreed with Mike hnfortunately. This isn't a calling, it is simply trolling.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Most kids don't know about kayfabe.

I'm fairly certain Sgt. Slaughter didn't go around giving out toys to the youngins after he turned Iraqi heel (though that would've been hilarious to see).

    ReplyDelete
  105. "Here's a Yo-yo, MAGGOT! STAND UP STRAIGHT WHEN YOU TALK TO ME!"

"I don't have any legs, Mr Slaughter..."

    "TEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNN-HUT!!!!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  106. I liked Savage/Roberts/Perfect as heels as a kid and so did a lot of my friends. This was elementary school.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I didn't know there were two more seasons. Good grief I've been missing out on all the "hilarity".

Speaking of which, how does one acquire all the seasons to "Night Court"? Can't seem to find them through the normal channels.

    ReplyDelete
  108. A character like Rusev only has so much shelf life anyway, I'm bored of his shtick TBH. He's gone against all the patriotic Americans on the roster, it's only natural and obvious to now do the Rusev/Lana break up and aftermath. Not sure where he goes after but worst case scenario he's crushing midcard jobbers and occasionally beasting battle royales

    ReplyDelete
  109. Favio, The Baby PuncherMay 20, 2015 at 8:47 AM

See, I would have loved that.

But I was always a weird kid.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Macho Man did all that stuff with the Special Olympics and he wasn't always a face.

Fair enough, but Ambrose is the exception that proves the rule. It clearly CAN be done, but for some reason WWE rarely rebuilds guys after they fall to a certain level. Usually, you get slotted and stay in that spot unless something extraordinary happens.

Tell me: If you were a millionaire celebrity, would you visit Children's hospitals? Spend hours with sick kids making them smile? Would you donate millions to charity? What's your definition of a "good person"? Since you aren't a celebrity millionaire, do you volunteer your time anywhere? Do you donate to charity? Do you take care of the less fortunate in any way? Do you do good works as a member of society?

In what way? I still don't get this at all. How is a babyface manager a "money train"? What female wrestler (if she even can be a decent wrestler) has ever truly been a money train?

Sable had what, 1 year or so of being a money train? And that was when WWE was basically selling porno pics of their women, which they obviously won't be doing here.

Where is the money in babyface Lana? Hell, fucking Miss Elizabeth meant zilch to WWE the second they split her off from Macho Man, and she's the best case scenario for a babyface non-wrestler.

I don't think anyone is saying people who give to charity are all angels. But instead of making any negative stink about people giving to charity, how about we say, "Thanks John. Maybe I should go out there and try to help others in some way." Instead, we're like, "Oh, we don't know WHY he's doing this! It doesn't make him a saint!" That's like the last thing anyone should take out of this.

Saville is a huge outlier, though. And frankly, it's clear that a lot of people helped him cover up his criminal acts and benefited from promoting his "wholesome" image for decades. But that's no reason to indict every celebrity who chooses to do charity work for kids as having some kind of secret agenda.

  191. 1 John 4:1-19 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.
