Oh shit, they finally made a GTA San Andreas movie. Wait, no, it's just some shitty disaster flick with the Rock. Fuck.

  2. Interesting challenge of Rock's box office ability. Thing looks like a Roland Emmerich fever dream

  3. Face/face feuds generally suck ass and they're not gonna let Cena look weak because Vince thinks the sun will explode if they do.

That's badass. 2 playoff games live during the run of a lifetime. Enjoy the hell out of it.

brocore you bastard we are continuing our MITB heated discussion HERE!

  6. I'm cool with three matches, so long as the last match is the rubber match. Whomever wins basically "wins" the feud.

  7. The problem I have is the old guard should build the young guys so they are ready to fight eachother. Ideally I'd have the new guys lose to the old guys, build to them beating the old guys then moving on to face other new guys.

    ReplyDelete
  8. We learned that with Hulk Hogan's heel enemies too

That's exactly how these guys are being booked. Go over people to feed to the top face. Then go around returning those favors and then leave the territory. Only difference is guys aren't leaving. They just hang around forever doing nothing of note.

  9. King Kong Bundy couldn't have stayed on top. Outside of his size and having no eyebrows, he had no lasting appeal on top. He was the perfect example of a Kozlov-style heel. Early push, because BIG, and then comedy sideshow for the rest of his time there, because awful.

  10. I got to admit I like heel New Day because they are the first WWE heels in awhile who actually wrestle like heels during matches.

  11. Not every feud of Rusev's has to be USA vs. Russia. If Rusev were to "win" this feud, they could give him a short program against a mid-carder that Rusev dominates. If the long-term plan is to book a Reigns title run, why not keep Rusev strong so you have a ready-made challenger? Instead of wasting Rusev's losses on a guy who doesn't need the heat (Cena) , save him for the guy that you really want to put over (Reings). Beating Rusev would do a lot more for Reigns than it's doing for Cena.

    ReplyDelete
  12. If they really wanted to build Reigns up Rusev was the way to go. Not the ONE guy in the whole company who didnt need it. And the one guy who is lol "in the midcard".

  13. Almost exactly what I wrote below. Absolutely agree.

  14. It's a bad habit sorry. I need to learn to read the comments first.

  15. I'm not big on fantasy booking, but salvaging Rusev and making this feud worthwhile should be easy. If the plan is to turn Lana and reveal that she's American, then have Rusev turn on her during the I Quit match and trap her (Accolade, etc.), so Cena is forced to quit in order to save her from serious injury. You build up Rusev's evil aura, he gets the better of Cena in such a way that Cena is still protected, and you've turned Lana in a super-sympathetic face. In Lana's promos afterward, she reveals that she's American, but couldn't get herself out of Rusev's grasp. Is that unreasonable?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Repackaged how though? Like volkoff when he suddenly liked americans? Start dancing like koslov? I dont dissagree with you I just dont see the writers being able to pull that off without Lana.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Problem is that won't happen with PG booking and no violence against women.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The problem is Rusev is a one-dimensional character. They can create a new dimension after this feud but they have shown time and time again that they won't.

Look at Bray. He's still doing the exact same deal for the last two years.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Rusev will have longevity based on his ringwork alone. He's a good worker that can tear up the mid-card with a bunch of people without the pressure of being undefeated and without the pressure of John Cena looming over him.

    He'll be okay.

  20. I was a Bundy mark as a kid, and was astonished that his career plummeted so fast after his loss at WrestleMania II.

Headlining against Hulk Hogan one year, battling Hillbilly Jim and a bunch of midgets the next year.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In the territory days, a monster heel like Rusev would just jump some place else for a while.

Now he'll end up like Umanga. A once "unbeatable" villain that ends up being beaten by everyone.

It's clear that there's no "plan" for anyone outside of the Chosen Few, and sometimes not even then. They don't book long term for anyone, so you end up with scenarios like "Rusev feuds with Cena, loses, then ????" and yet when he's on RAW getting little reaction for his five-minute midcard match with Random Babyface they'll say "oh, he's not connecting" and come up with some goofy comedy shit to "freshen up" the gimmick. It's infuriating.

  23. Rusev Booking Idea: Jilted Friend-Zoned Client. He goes on a vengeful tear against Cena for "taking his woman" and is essentially disturbed from the whole deal.

"Today I think we're supposed to believe the wrestlers live in the
production trucks, and they are wheeled into the arena every Monday
night, and they are all turned on with a giant switch."

That's one way to ensure that no on ever becomes bigger than the brand and thus has no leverage. Furniture makes no demands.

"Just think of how many of today's "stories" don't make sense if you
think about why none of these characters don't interact the other 6 days
and 21 hours of the week when the camera isn't on and pointed at them."

That's why I hate most of the so-called on-camera relationships, because even the real-life couples have trouble convincing me that they even interact anywhere except backstage with a camera crew.

Something as easy as trying to get the crowd to cheer and acting shocked and angry when they boo does wonders. Just let these guys act like actual relatable human beings, and MAYBE the crowds will care and not tune out when the main eventers aren't around.

"[Fill-In-The-Blank] is young and talented and the easiest character in the world to rebuild..."

How often do we say this, and how often does it actually happen in WWE?

Looking forward to the Rusev- Sandow comedy tag team

  30. Probably because he doesn't have chiseled "Ivan Drago" look, but I've just never bought the idea of Rusev as an indestructible Russian/Soviet athlete.

    ReplyDelete
  31. They could do an amnesia angle where he gets hit in the head and is suddenly a pro-usa patriot.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Same. He just looks kinda like a fat mexican from the neck up.

  33. It worked for Goldberg and Ryback!

    Oh wait.

    ReplyDelete
  34. They should go full on george the animal steele and just give him electric shock treatments.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Good point, that's certainly true. I wonder if they'd go so far as to imply/threaten such a thing off-screen and achieve the same result.

  36. The problem isn't this isolated feud between Cena and Rusev. The problem is WWE's treatment of younger guys as it is.

WWE's 10+ years on top without any real competition led to them getting too comfortable and complacent for their own good.

Mid-card and upper-card is stale as hell. Kane, Big Show, Ziggler, Sheamus, Cena, Barrett and Orton. These are all fine performers, but they've been around for too long.

Sheamus recently went through a nice gimmick refreshment, but they're not capitalizing on it. Instead of having him go on a tear through the roster until he gets to Brock (imagine them together in the ring - that's a cool image), he's treading mid-card waters just like before. He's booked like a chump one week and like strong heel the next. Nothing consistent and it's obvious WWE has no plans to put him in the main event picture. Which makes his entire refreshment for nothing as he's the same mid-carder he was before.

Ziggler's window for getting to main event is officially closed as this is his 6th year of being a mid-carder/upper-carder who fights, but rarely gets a big win and that has not evolved as a character for years. As much as I respect Ziggler's efforts, he bores me at this point and I have little interest in watching him.

Fact is, WWE needs new blood to get mega over as soon as possible. It's irrelevant if it's Wyatt, Ambrose, Rollins, Reigns, Rusev, or anyone else. It just needs to happen and it needs to happen with a lot of guys. Because otherwise - they risk getting so stale no one will bother watching.

That's why the Rusev stuff is such a bad decision. At a time when they can use any new main eventer they can get, they build a monster up for an effin' year only to feed
him to Cena three times in a row.

That's a bad decision, no matter how you slice it.
