Hi Scott!
My friend started a good natured gag/prank site. While I wasn't sold on the concept when he initially told me about it (they send customized gag songs to the person of your choice via e-mail or phone), I tried it, and it's actually pretty funny. I sent it to a coworker, and the look on their face was worth the $.99.
I was hoping that you might plug it on the Blog, as I think you and your readers may get a kick out of it, too.
Thanks!

This was absolutely a shallow ploy by Russo to get clicks via riling up internet smarks.
ReplyDeleteHe's playing you for ad revenue, kids.
I said this yesterday when his terrible opinion came out, but Vince Russo's opinion is contradictory to his entire career. He talks about these IWC fans who are the only ones who know Sami, but Russo's entire career was based on "this is real right now. We're breaking kayfabe, and we know everyone is smart and will get this."
ReplyDeleteYEAH!! Vince Russo is an AMERICAN, and that means he doesn't want to see these Canadians try to get over on AMERICAN TELEVISION
ReplyDeleteExcept that even though I'm annoyed by him, I don't go to any of his websites. The only reason I know his opinion at all is because Scott or someone else posts it.
ReplyDeleteHell, I don't even know from which website he posted this.
I SAID "Forgot your scissors?"
ReplyDeleteLet's also ignore the fact that the majority of 15,000 people (listen to the pop) seemed to know who he is.
ReplyDeleteRusso doesn't understand the way things work now.
1) WWE fans have the network or know someone who does.
2) The network airs NXT
3) Sami Zayn is on NXT
4) The people who watch RAW are WWE fans, have or know someone who has the network, have seen NXT, and know who Sami Zayn is.
5) Therefore, WWE fans know who Sami Zayn is.
It ain't rocket science.
You're one person, Mr. Indeed. A few hundred people have posted "FUCK YOU RUSSO!" comments on the original post at WrestleZone, so he's clearly pulling some people in.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's unfortunate.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should start an online fundraiser to fly Jim Cornette to Russo's house so he can pee on him or something? That would be productive.
Sami could be world champ in the future, no doubt, but not as his character currently is. I'd put him under a mask, IMO.
ReplyDeleteThat's a terrible idea. His facial expressions make him an even better sympathetic babyface.
ReplyDeleteRAW was great this week even without Sami Zayn - you know it was going to be a different show when New Day showed up in the opening segment and were awesome in it. Great wrestling throughout and authority stuff kept to a minimum. Plus it helps that the crowd was super hot all night
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't signed by WWE because of his facial expressions.
ReplyDeleteWhat was different about this week's Raw ratings is that while lower than usual, they stayed consistent all night. So people who were watching weren't changing the channel, which is what seems to happen drastically every other week (if I'm not mistaken). So yeah, Russo is a numpty
ReplyDeleteNope. But he's not wearing his mask now for a reason.
ReplyDeletePeople, if we ignore him, he'll shrivel up and go away. We can do this!
ReplyDeleteYes, because WWE has to change names and gimmicks of the Indy guys they sign. I'm just saying Sami needs a hook before he can take the next step on the main roster.
ReplyDeleteRusso gave us WCW Champion Jeff Jarrett and his barnstorming catchphrase "Slapnuts."
ReplyDeleteSure, WCW was a clogged toilet when he got there, but all he did was plunge it so he could flush it all away.
Vince Russo will never fully go away while he still gets Google Alerts with for his name popping up on wrestling websites. I'm sure whenever his computer beeps with a new alert, he jerks off to it, screaming "I'm still relevant! I still matter!" the whole time.
ReplyDeletePlease, stop the insanity.
We can all bash Russo, but I GUARANTEE there are people within WWE that are thinking the same thing. And it's exactly why no one gives a shit about WWE right now.
ReplyDeleteWell, giving him an indy geek mask will surely put him over with the WWE front office. He'll be champ in no time!
ReplyDeleteI know this is supposed to be an over-the-top comment, but it's probably shockingly accurate.
ReplyDeleteOver the top? What about this post is supposed to be over the top? There's no arm wrestling going on...
ReplyDeleteYou could say that about anyone who comes in from the indies. A guy named Daniel Bryan was blander than bland despite being the best wrestler in the world but once he turned into a smarmy heel, got a chant over and then became a fiery and plucky babyface, fans jumped on board. And look at Seth Rollins. Great worker but looked to be the Marty Jannetty of the Shield but now he's the best of all three of them.
ReplyDeleteSami will find his hook. I highly doubt it'll be under a mask.
D-Bry was in no way blander than bland.
ReplyDeleteNot only that but he's SYRIAN-CANADIAN!!!
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning? He TOTALLY was! He looked like Bob Backlund's son!
ReplyDeleteWorst thing to ever happen to professional wrestling. Total clown.
ReplyDeleteWith his NXT start as the Miz's rookie? He was pretty bland. Took him a few months to find his footing.
ReplyDeleteOk, I get it, you don't like the mask idea. Still, him wearing a mask in the short term would not be the worst idea IMO. Sami needs several years of seasoning and gimmick tweaks/changes before he's a world champion.
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah...that's usually what happens with any newcomer.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean when he was on the indies or in NXT?
ReplyDeleteNXT. He was very charismatic on the indies.
ReplyDeleteOh okay. My mistake. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteDamn it, I really need to stop using that phrase! That's the 2nd time in a week someone has mentioned arm wrestling to me.
ReplyDeleteWearing a mask in the short term is not the worst idea. It gives him a hook that fans will remember. Obvs the Lucha Dragons wear masks so it'll never happen right now, but Sami move his way up the ladder as he's constituted now. It took Bryan years of 300 days on the road before he was ready to be world champion.
ReplyDeleteExactly. THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteOf course it is. Remember, in his 2000 WCW shoot, he declared himself done with wrestling and said that Sean should ask him anything he wants right then and there because that would be the last time he ever spoke about wrestling.
ReplyDelete...
Mm-hmm.
Put Sami under a mask and it's maximum 4 weeks before he's feuding with Adam Rose and/or Fandango or teaming up with Los Matadores against Heath Slater and the Ascension on Main Event because the creative team will take one look at him and think LOL LANKY GINGER GUY THINKS HE'S A MEXICAN.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Russo. If this Sandy Zayn guy or whatever he's called was genuinely a big deal then as soon as he came out for the open challenge every fan would have run to the nearest pay phone to tell their friends to turn over and watch Raw instead of Nitro. He clearly can't draw worth shit and needs repackaging as Muslim Sammy Isis
ReplyDeleteThe difference is all the guys you named stink in the ring. Sami has a unique in ring style and his selling is tops in the business. Talent over comes crap, even though I don't think a mask is crap.
ReplyDeleteYou're still talking about him today, bro.
ReplyDeleteWatch this be a SWERVE when Vince Russo returns to Raw next week and does a SHOOT promo repeating what he said on the Internet (which every wrestling fan follows with a microscope), and Zayn comes out....only to say that he found a new manager to help him be a "TV star"...and that man is VINCE RUSSO. Then SEX 2015 reforms.
ReplyDeleteBreaking News: Vince Russo doesn't understand the wrestling business. More at 10.
ReplyDeleteBreaking news? More like a history program.
ReplyDeleteA mask? How generic...
ReplyDeleteAnd thus the sarcasm of my joke is explained.
ReplyDeleteStop being ridiculous. He'd also create a new belt, have the new faction defend it in a falls count anywhere match which would wind up in a desert somewhere, have them all blown up, and then return the next week and forget the whole angle ever took place
ReplyDeleteHe's not that bad. He's had some good matches with Neville and Owens.
ReplyDeletethat's crazy talk
ReplyDeleteyet he became even better with it ...
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the pole... they need to have a pole match in there somewhere too.
ReplyDeleteI assumed that was just a given, like how there would also be a ref, bell, and ropes involved too.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand I agree with Russo about Sami. On the other hand, he also said that Bill DeMott was a more marketable superstar than either Dean Ambrose or Seth Rollins. So kinda hard to take the opinion too seriously. He's just something for people to post about.
ReplyDeleteUnless your friends are part of Nielsen (sp?) families, what good would it do to call them?
ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with Sami being better than Primo or Heath Slater. It has to do with what putting him in a mask will make him look like to the people who make the decisions.
ReplyDeleteAlso:
"Talent overcomes crap."
Lol
There's a rich history of talented guys who would take major issue with that statement.
Do people still write "Lol"? There's also a rich history of talent overcoming crappy gimmicks. The only talented guy not able to overcome a bogus gimmick: Shane Douglas Lol.
ReplyDeleteRusso pushing Jarrett in 2000 disqualifies him from this topic
ReplyDeleteKayfabe News seized on the story:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.kayfabenews.com/vince-russo-says-stone-cold-wasnt-star/
Yeah that Austin guy wasn't a big deal ratings wise in 96.
ReplyDeleteRusso bitching about the Internet while he has own web site, podcast and Twitter account...that's like porn stars complaining about porn while continuing to do porn or environmentalists complaining about cell phones while continuing to use them.
ReplyDeleteBingo. At least when Billy Jack Haynes said the exact same thing in his last shoot, he really meant it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with him to an extent, but this is how you make a star. John Cena was a nobody when he came out that day when he challenged Kurt Angle.
ReplyDeleteYes. Shane Douglas is literally the only wrestler in wrestling history who has ever seen his career handicapped by a bad gimmick. Ever. The only one. Yep.
ReplyDeleteThank you for agreeing with me.
ReplyDeleteI think the poor rating has more to do with previous week sounding like a pile of shit, next week will probably be up.
ReplyDeleteI think Russo has some really good points about the current the product, he just goes way over the top with it. Count me as someone not enjoying Seth Rollins as World Champion.
ReplyDeleteAnd he was a nobody afterwards. He became a somebody when he started to rap.
ReplyDeleteThe irony is that that's why he was successful. He gave people something different after they had been spoonfed the same shit for decades.
ReplyDeleteBut shock and awe only works well once, and has vastly diminishing returns thereafter.
I agree. He's not stupid its just his ideas need to be reigned in or explained by wrestling people so they can say here's why this will or won't work like he had in WWF.
ReplyDeleteZayn doesn't have to be advertised. You see the jobber come out against Cena and you turn the channel. If they HAD advertised it and built it up then maybe folks would have stuck around. Otherwise it came off as a nobody and people lost interest.
ReplyDeleteBingo. As of now, Zayn is nobody outside of a small niche of fans.
ReplyDeleteHe's not bitching about the net in any way. He is bitching about a small group of fans on the web who think they represent the majority. That's not really controversial.
ReplyDeleteRusso pushing Austin, Rock, DX, HHH, Hardy's, and Foley almost makes him an expert.
ReplyDeleteMarketable? Absolutely. (Well, Ambrose is easy to market. ) Actually being able to be a superstar is something else entirely.
ReplyDeleteHuh. I thought he had quite a bit of success with something he doesn't understand. Maybe, just maybe, he understands it better than you.
ReplyDeleteUm....yeah.
ReplyDeleteHow much of that was Russo and not Vince, Shane and others also? When Russo had total control of WCW, he constantly pushed the wrong guys
ReplyDeleteIts not the idea, its the method. Zayn just showing up doesnt do him any favors.
ReplyDeleteI'd say 75%/25%
ReplyDeleteAnd WCW was a different beast entirely. What worked in WWF wouldn't work in WCW because of the structure if nothing else. Say what you will about Jarrett as WCW champ, but 1) the guy was actually talented and not nearly as bad as the IWC says he is. Is he Stone Cold? No way. But he's a good.worker (not amazing...but good) and a more interesting interview than Hart was. But what I think was really important is 2) Jarrett was a guy when was 100% loyal to Russo, and Russo could trust him to follow the booking instead of being a wild card with creative.control. That goes a very long way.
I stopped watching WCW once Jarrett won the title. There was nothing about him that I found even remotely interesting.
ReplyDeleteNot even remotely? Wow. Harsh.
ReplyDeleteTo me, Jarrett was worse than Arquette as champion
ReplyDeleteOh sure. But there's no universe where I can see Hugh Morrus being a bigger "superstar" than either Ambrose or Rollins, particularly Rollins. :) I'm not saying any of them is the next big thing but man...Hugh Morrus...
ReplyDeleteEveryone has had shit gimmicks. Bill DeMott is a marketable dude. Doesn't mean it was done, but it would have been very possible.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think I buy that you think that.
ReplyDeleteLOL, you and I will have to agree to disagree on this one. :) more marketable than Rollins?!? Nah way!
ReplyDeleteTriple H and Steph will likely be back on Raw, so they'll get all the credit if the rating goes up.
ReplyDelete
