Ugly Serenade

Hi Scott!

My friend started a good natured gag/prank site. While I wasn't sold on the concept when he initially told me about it (they send customized gag songs to the person of your choice via e-mail or phone), I tried it, and it's actually pretty funny. I sent it to a coworker, and the look on their face was worth the $.99.

I was hoping that you might plug it on the Blog, as I think you and your readers may get a kick out of it, too.

Thanks!

  1. This was absolutely a shallow ploy by Russo to get clicks via riling up internet smarks.

He's playing you for ad revenue, kids.

I said this yesterday when his terrible opinion came out, but Vince Russo's opinion is contradictory to his entire career. He talks about these IWC fans who are the only ones who know Sami, but Russo's entire career was based on "this is real right now. We're breaking kayfabe, and we know everyone is smart and will get this."

    ReplyDelete
  3. YEAH!! Vince Russo is an AMERICAN, and that means he doesn't want to see these Canadians try to get over on AMERICAN TELEVISION

    ReplyDelete
  4. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 6:42 AM

Except that even though I'm annoyed by him, I don't go to any of his websites. The only reason I know his opinion at all is because Scott or someone else posts it.

Hell, I don't even know from which website he posted this.

  5. I SAID "Forgot your scissors?"

Let's also ignore the fact that the majority of 15,000 people (listen to the pop) seemed to know who he is.

Russo doesn't understand the way things work now.

    1) WWE fans have the network or know someone who does.
    2) The network airs NXT
    3) Sami Zayn is on NXT
    4) The people who watch RAW are WWE fans, have or know someone who has the network, have seen NXT, and know who Sami Zayn is.
    5) Therefore, WWE fans know who Sami Zayn is.

    It ain't rocket science.

  7. You're one person, Mr. Indeed. A few hundred people have posted "FUCK YOU RUSSO!" comments on the original post at WrestleZone, so he's clearly pulling some people in.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 6:50 AM

    Well, that's unfortunate.

Maybe we should start an online fundraiser to fly Jim Cornette to Russo's house so he can pee on him or something? That would be productive.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Sami could be world champ in the future, no doubt, but not as his character currently is. I'd put him under a mask, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 6:54 AM

That's a terrible idea. His facial expressions make him an even better sympathetic babyface.

    ReplyDelete
  11. RAW was great this week even without Sami Zayn - you know it was going to be a different show when New Day showed up in the opening segment and were awesome in it. Great wrestling throughout and authority stuff kept to a minimum. Plus it helps that the crowd was super hot all night

    ReplyDelete
  12. He wasn't signed by WWE because of his facial expressions.

    ReplyDelete
  13. What was different about this week's Raw ratings is that while lower than usual, they stayed consistent all night. So people who were watching weren't changing the channel, which is what seems to happen drastically every other week (if I'm not mistaken). So yeah, Russo is a numpty

    ReplyDelete
  14. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 7:08 AM

Nope. But he's not wearing his mask now for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  15. People, if we ignore him, he'll shrivel up and go away. We can do this!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, because WWE has to change names and gimmicks of the Indy guys they sign. I'm just saying Sami needs a hook before he can take the next step on the main roster.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Russo gave us WCW Champion Jeff Jarrett and his barnstorming catchphrase "Slapnuts."

Sure, WCW was a clogged toilet when he got there, but all he did was plunge it so he could flush it all away.

  18. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarMay 7, 2015 at 7:12 AM

Vince Russo will never fully go away while he still gets Google Alerts with for his name popping up on wrestling websites. I'm sure whenever his computer beeps with a new alert, he jerks off to it, screaming "I'm still relevant! I still matter!" the whole time.

    Please, stop the insanity.

    ReplyDelete
  19. We can all bash Russo, but I GUARANTEE there are people within WWE that are thinking the same thing. And it's exactly why no one gives a shit about WWE right now.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 7:16 AM

Well, giving him an indy geek mask will surely put him over with the WWE front office. He'll be champ in no time!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 7:17 AM

I know this is supposed to be an over-the-top comment, but it's probably shockingly accurate.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarMay 7, 2015 at 7:19 AM

Over the top? What about this post is supposed to be over the top? There's no arm wrestling going on...

    ReplyDelete
  23. You could say that about anyone who comes in from the indies. A guy named Daniel Bryan was blander than bland despite being the best wrestler in the world but once he turned into a smarmy heel, got a chant over and then became a fiery and plucky babyface, fans jumped on board. And look at Seth Rollins. Great worker but looked to be the Marty Jannetty of the Shield but now he's the best of all three of them.

Sami will find his hook. I highly doubt it'll be under a mask.

    ReplyDelete
  24. D-Bry was in no way blander than bland.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not only that but he's SYRIAN-CANADIAN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. At the beginning? He TOTALLY was! He looked like Bob Backlund's son!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Worst thing to ever happen to professional wrestling. Total clown.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Extant1979 - Extreme SuperstarMay 7, 2015 at 7:22 AM

With his NXT start as the Miz's rookie? He was pretty bland. Took him a few months to find his footing.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ok, I get it, you don't like the mask idea. Still, him wearing a mask in the short term would not be the worst idea IMO. Sami needs several years of seasoning and gimmick tweaks/changes before he's a world champion.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well, yeah...that's usually what happens with any newcomer.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Do you mean when he was on the indies or in NXT?

    ReplyDelete
  32. NXT. He was very charismatic on the indies.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh okay. My mistake. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 7:24 AM

Damn it, I really need to stop using that phrase! That's the 2nd time in a week someone has mentioned arm wrestling to me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wearing a mask in the short term is not the worst idea. It gives him a hook that fans will remember. Obvs the Lucha Dragons wear masks so it'll never happen right now, but Sami move his way up the ladder as he's constituted now. It took Bryan years of 300 days on the road before he was ready to be world champion.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Belee_Matt!_INDEED!!!May 7, 2015 at 7:25 AM

    Exactly. THANK YOU.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Of course it is. Remember, in his 2000 WCW shoot, he declared himself done with wrestling and said that Sean should ask him anything he wants right then and there because that would be the last time he ever spoke about wrestling.

    ...

    Mm-hmm.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Put Sami under a mask and it's maximum 4 weeks before he's feuding with Adam Rose and/or Fandango or teaming up with Los Matadores against Heath Slater and the Ascension on Main Event because the creative team will take one look at him and think LOL LANKY GINGER GUY THINKS HE'S A MEXICAN.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Battle Kat LitterMay 7, 2015 at 7:50 AM

I agree with Russo. If this Sandy Zayn guy or whatever he's called was genuinely a big deal then as soon as he came out for the open challenge every fan would have run to the nearest pay phone to tell their friends to turn over and watch Raw instead of Nitro. He clearly can't draw worth shit and needs repackaging as Muslim Sammy Isis

    ReplyDelete
  40. The difference is all the guys you named stink in the ring. Sami has a unique in ring style and his selling is tops in the business. Talent over comes crap, even though I don't think a mask is crap.

    ReplyDelete
  41. James M. FabianoMay 7, 2015 at 7:57 AM

You're still talking about him today, bro.

    ReplyDelete
  42. James M. FabianoMay 7, 2015 at 8:00 AM

Watch this be a SWERVE when Vince Russo returns to Raw next week and does a SHOOT promo repeating what he said on the Internet (which every wrestling fan follows with a microscope), and Zayn comes out....only to say that he found a new manager to help him be a "TV star"...and that man is VINCE RUSSO. Then SEX 2015 reforms.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Breaking News: Vince Russo doesn't understand the wrestling business. More at 10.

    ReplyDelete
  44. James M. FabianoMay 7, 2015 at 8:06 AM

Breaking news? More like a history program.

    ReplyDelete
  45. James M. FabianoMay 7, 2015 at 8:06 AM

    A mask? How generic...

    ReplyDelete
  46. And thus the sarcasm of my joke is explained.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Stop being ridiculous. He'd also create a new belt, have the new faction defend it in a falls count anywhere match which would wind up in a desert somewhere, have them all blown up, and then return the next week and forget the whole angle ever took place

    ReplyDelete
  48. Battle Kat LitterMay 7, 2015 at 8:24 AM

He's not that bad. He's had some good matches with Neville and Owens.

    ReplyDelete
  49. TheBrazillianTrannyMay 7, 2015 at 8:46 AM

    that's crazy talk

    ReplyDelete
  50. TheBrazillianTrannyMay 7, 2015 at 8:46 AM

yet he became even better with it ...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oprah NoodlemantraMay 7, 2015 at 9:01 AM

Don't forget the pole... they need to have a pole match in there somewhere too.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I assumed that was just a given, like how there would also be a ref, bell, and ropes involved too.

    ReplyDelete
  53. On one hand I agree with Russo about Sami. On the other hand, he also said that Bill DeMott was a more marketable superstar than either Dean Ambrose or Seth Rollins. So kinda hard to take the opinion too seriously. He's just something for people to post about.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Unless your friends are part of Nielsen (sp?) families, what good would it do to call them?

    ReplyDelete
  55. It has nothing to do with Sami being better than Primo or Heath Slater. It has to do with what putting him in a mask will make him look like to the people who make the decisions.

    Also:

    "Talent overcomes crap."

    Lol

There's a rich history of talented guys who would take major issue with that statement.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Do people still write "Lol"? There's also a rich history of talent overcoming crappy gimmicks. The only talented guy not able to overcome a bogus gimmick: Shane Douglas Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Russo pushing Jarrett in 2000 disqualifies him from this topic

    ReplyDelete
  58. Kayfabe News seized on the story:

    http://www.kayfabenews.com/vince-russo-says-stone-cold-wasnt-star/

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah that Austin guy wasn't a big deal ratings wise in 96.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Russo bitching about the Internet while he has own web site, podcast and Twitter account...that's like porn stars complaining about porn while continuing to do porn or environmentalists complaining about cell phones while continuing to use them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Bingo. At least when Billy Jack Haynes said the exact same thing in his last shoot, he really meant it.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree with him to an extent, but this is how you make a star. John Cena was a nobody when he came out that day when he challenged Kurt Angle.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yes. Shane Douglas is literally the only wrestler in wrestling history who has ever seen his career handicapped by a bad gimmick. Ever. The only one. Yep.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thank you for agreeing with me.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think the poor rating has more to do with previous week sounding like a pile of shit, next week will probably be up.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think Russo has some really good points about the current the product, he just goes way over the top with it. Count me as someone not enjoying Seth Rollins as World Champion.

    ReplyDelete
  67. And he was a nobody afterwards. He became a somebody when he started to rap.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The irony is that that's why he was successful. He gave people something different after they had been spoonfed the same shit for decades.

But shock and awe only works well once, and has vastly diminishing returns thereafter.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I agree. He's not stupid its just his ideas need to be reigned in or explained by wrestling people so they can say here's why this will or won't work like he had in WWF.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Zayn doesn't have to be advertised. You see the jobber come out against Cena and you turn the channel. If they HAD advertised it and built it up then maybe folks would have stuck around. Otherwise it came off as a nobody and people lost interest.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Bingo. As of now, Zayn is nobody outside of a small niche of fans.

    ReplyDelete
  72. He's not bitching about the net in any way. He is bitching about a small group of fans on the web who think they represent the majority. That's not really controversial.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Russo pushing Austin, Rock, DX, HHH, Hardy's, and Foley almost makes him an expert.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Marketable? Absolutely. (Well, Ambrose is easy to market. ) Actually being able to be a superstar is something else entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Huh. I thought he had quite a bit of success with something he doesn't understand. Maybe, just maybe, he understands it better than you.

    ReplyDelete
  76. How much of that was Russo and not Vince, Shane and others also? When Russo had total control of WCW, he constantly pushed the wrong guys

    ReplyDelete
  77. Its not the idea, its the method. Zayn just showing up doesnt do him any favors.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'd say 75%/25%

And WCW was a different beast entirely. What worked in WWF wouldn't work in WCW because of the structure if nothing else. Say what you will about Jarrett as WCW champ, but 1) the guy was actually talented and not nearly as bad as the IWC says he is. Is he Stone Cold? No way. But he's a good.worker (not amazing...but good) and a more interesting interview than Hart was. But what I think was really important is 2) Jarrett was a guy when was 100% loyal to Russo, and Russo could trust him to follow the booking instead of being a wild card with creative.control. That goes a very long way.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I stopped watching WCW once Jarrett won the title. There was nothing about him that I found even remotely interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Not even remotely? Wow. Harsh.

    ReplyDelete
  81. To me, Jarrett was worse than Arquette as champion

    ReplyDelete
  82. Oh sure. But there's no universe where I can see Hugh Morrus being a bigger "superstar" than either Ambrose or Rollins, particularly Rollins. :) I'm not saying any of them is the next big thing but man...Hugh Morrus...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Everyone has had shit gimmicks. Bill DeMott is a marketable dude. Doesn't mean it was done, but it would have been very possible.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah, I don't think I buy that you think that.

    ReplyDelete
  85. LOL, you and I will have to agree to disagree on this one. :) more marketable than Rollins?!? Nah way!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Triple H and Steph will likely be back on Raw, so they'll get all the credit if the rating goes up.
