Very important questions

Not really. Three random questions.

Which Brock ad-lib do you prefer -- the kicking of Cena's hat or spitting at Stephanie (which seems to have been largely ignored but was completely awesome)?

Do you even need to ask? The hat-kicking was a moment that defined a generation!

Was there ever any thought of giving RVD the belt in the RVD/Austin/Angle storyline, or was it just a way to get Vince involved in the angle?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA...no.

If somebody told Vince he needed to draw money/subscribers and he had to do it fast or else Wall St. was going to short the stock to sh!t, what angle does he run with this current crop of talent (no part-timers)? Cena goes heel, Orton goes Stone Cold and RKOs the crap out of everyone, Reformation of the Shield?

Pretty sure that the Shield reforming is one of the last bullets he's got left in the chamber. That or actually paying Brock to work every PPV for a while and giving him meaningful feuds and storylines behind them.

  1. The Shield vs The Wyatt Family War Games.

Artistically, that would be one of the best War Games matches.

  2. WWE is really stupid for making Brock go away until SummerSlam. To not have Brock stay for the month after WrestleMania is beyond dumb since he took ALL the heat with him.

Could you imagine shit-heel Rollins vs. Brock in a cage at Extreme Rules? That is what people would pay to see!

    ReplyDelete
  3. That would be awesome, so its not going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I thought they should've done a war games match with those two factions in the elimination chamber. That would've ruled.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It's not like they've actively decided to only use Brock these few dates. He wasn't ever going to work anywhere near full-time.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Reformation of the Shield is tough because of the Authority - you can't make them an uber-heel stable because the Authority will always be higher than them. Unless you did an nWo type-turn for them, where they take out Stephanie and HHH and cause anarchy in the company until the Cena-Orton-Bryan group has to put aside grudges to take them down.

    ReplyDelete
  7. But he could have stayed at least until extreme rules. Everyone who was a reason for watching Wrestlemania was gone the week after. No wonder, they can't keep the fans. "Hey, you like Brock Lesnar? You really wanna see Brock Lesnar? Wait till summer!"

    ReplyDelete
  8. Change the J&J Security with Rollins and Ambrose and voilá.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I dunno, but eventually Brock was going to go, have him hang out a few extra weeks wasn't going to do much. Plus his logical match at Extreme Rules is for the title and they really couldn't have him win it back and they couldn't have him really lose so that seems like it would have been a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Still makes no sense why either faction broke up. Especially the Wyatts. At least the Shield has had success since breaking up...for the most part.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Having gone back and watched the War Games matches. I...eh. I prefer the elimination chamber. They had the chance to do Shield v. Wyatts Elimination Chamber and chose to break up both stables instead. They missed the boat on that one, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  12. They could have had him lose actually. Have Seth win in an upset (With very little interference.) The Seth is set up for life.

Dude has to win without shenanigans at some juncture. Even Flair won the occasional match without the Horsemen.

  13. Making him go away?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Let Roman Reigns come in with a chair and destroy Lesnar so that Rollins can pin him. Then Rollins wants to give Reigns the hand and thank him and then Reigns beats Rollins down as well and then drinks beer with the fans. DTA don't trust anybody! ;)

The correct answer is Cena vs. Orton Part 5905. After all, they're the biggest stars in the world! [/Vince]

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't even think the reformation of The Shield could save Vince if he had a financial gun pressed to his temple.

Now The Shield led by a newly heel-turned John Cena against Steve Austin, The Rock and a returning CM Punk?

Yeah, you could probably squeeze about two or three months of interest out of that.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Rollins as champ, with Reigns as muscle and Ambrose as the crazy writes itself.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think the issue WWE constantly faces is their inability to show restraint and actually build something. Two examples come to mind....wasting both Cena vs. Rusev #1 and Stardust vs. Goldust on the PPV prior to WrestleMania, instead of taking the extra month and just making the WrestleMania match feel more special.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Still have no idea why they broke up the shield while they were at their hottest point. I mean Rollins is doing fine but reigns got exposed and Ambrose is now part of the 50/50 booking midcard treadmill.
It must of sucked for Ambrose to see his former partners headline wrestlemania while he got to curtain jerk the show.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Haha, Cody versus Goldie would of been death. And it would of left a bad stain on a solid wrestlemania.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Exactly.

Think of how much fanfare the recent Mayfeather vs. Pacquaio fight would have garnered if it had been announced just three or four weeks before the event.

There is a fine art to a proper build, and as you stated, showing restraint with respect to your booking.

We all remember the iconic WrestleMania III moment where Hogan bodyslammed Andre the Giant, right? Now think of how iconic it would have been if the modern booking approach had been applied to that feud. Andre and Hogan have their initial confrontation on Piper's Pit, but they have a match just a couple of weeks later on free TV that ends in a schmooz, but not before Hogan bodyslams Andre. The WM III main event still happens, but the event is far from a success and a confused and indignant Vince McMahon is at a loss as to why.

Then Andre turns face and begins spending his time dancing with midgets and feuding with lower card heels until such a time when he is released from his contract because creative "has nothing for him".

  22. But Reigns isn't a jobberweight.

    ReplyDelete
  23. RVD: Patron saint of sometimes Vince is right and the guy shouldn't be a main eventer.

    ReplyDelete
  24. He doesn't want to work that many shows, he has a certain number of dates he works, and they save them for when they save them. This has always been the deal with Lesnar since he came back. It's nothing new. It's not like they're leaving him on the sidelines when he's available for a show he's willing to work.

    ReplyDelete
  25. lol @ the last part.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I mean, maybe you can keep them together until.... Summerslam? But I don't know what more you really want to do with them past, say, a final showdown with the Wyatts or something. All three were ready to move on, and you can't use shoddy booking since that point as an after-the-fact justification. The Ambrose/Rollins feud was the hottest thing they had going for months and Reigns was on the right track until his injury (and has since re-found his way as they actually booked him really well starting with the Raw before Fastlane).

It was time for all of them to sink or swim as singles performers, and the group reuniting is something you can always come back to a year or two later if needed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's still stupid. The # of dates don't have to change, but Brock was worth way more coming off of WrestleMania than he will be in August.

    ReplyDelete
  28. They decided to wait 6 months to use his dates & that loses all his heat.

    ReplyDelete
  29. How was it not going to do much? There like 2 MILLION people that watched the Raw after WrestleMania that disappeared with Brock. Strike when iron is hot.

    ReplyDelete
  30. First, its 4 months. Second, its in his contract.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You're creating a false dichotomy here, about whether it was the right or wrong decision to have him work that show.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My problem with the shield split is that they decimated Evolution twice, Batista left and then Rollins was like " I want to align myself with these losers ". You can still push Reigns while keeping the band together. Here is my scenario: the shield stay together, the authority gets someone else to replace Batista say Cesaro (and since he was being managed by Heyman at the time this could of directly lead into the Authority hiring Brock to take the title off Cena), then have the Authority expoilt the shields weakness by booking them in single matches, make it clear that Ambrose and Rollins struggle by taking significantly longer to beat opponents than Reigns and finally once the crowds are hotter for reigns than the other two then you pull the heel turn with Rollins citing jealousy for Reigns better success.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Still don't understand why they didnt use the Elimination chamber. It was RIGHT THERE!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Be fair - Hogan also would've made jokes about Andre's bowel movements and called him Jack a bunch of times

    ReplyDelete
  35. It made sense because Batista wasn't supposed to leave. Rollins was supposed to join the group as another addition. If you remember the Batista quitting promo, Triple H was already referring to having "a plan" and that Batista should be patient. If Batista had stuck around, then he could have joined in on the total destruction of The Shield. As for why Rollins would join them? Simple - they have the money and they have the power. Sometimes it's just that easy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I didn't read the entire fantasy booking scenario, but I think the best way to give someone a singles push is to actually push them as a singles wrestler, rather than as part of a group.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You're exactly right. I got too cocky there.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think it depends. Before they were the New Age Outlaws, Billy Gunn and the Roaddog were just jobbers. When they formed a team they went more popular and when they joined the DX, they were on top of the card. Then when they decided to push them as single wrestlers, they went nowhere. Or take the nWo, Hall and Nash would have never made such an impact, if they would have come in as single wrestlers.

  40. Saying "we only use Brock at the Rumble, Mania and Summerslam" immediately makes the rest less special. Throw him out there for fucking payback!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Didn't realize you were Brock's lawyer on this.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Giving Orton another big push is by far the least interesting of those three options, so clearly that's the one Vince would pick

    ReplyDelete
  43. If knowing the facts makes me a lawyer, then pay my retainer.

  46. Thats some true shit. That would happen today and it's sad

    ReplyDelete
  47. How would The Shield reuniting be some huge financial success if Vince had a figurative gun to his head? They were an awesome group because it showed us what all three men could bring to the table as competitors right off the bat, but getting back together would just be taking a bunch of steps backwards at this point. They haven't even been apart long enough for a reunion to even feel like that big of a deal.

  48. RVD should've upset the Rock for the WCW Title the night after Austin lost the WWF Title to Angle. Deranged Austin goes away for a few weeks, throwing a temper tantrum because he lost his precious title, only to return to see that the guy who he thinks is trying to take his spot now has the Big Gold Belt would've pushed that little angle over the top. Now, Austin's passive-aggressive attempts to screw RVD over the next few weeks have tangible consequences as the title is now at stake. Run the Angle/Austin rematch as it happened, only Angle retains via DQ after Van Dam accidentally hits Austin with a chair when trying to help bring the title back to the Alliance. Run RVD/Austin at No Mercy, with Austin getting DQ'ed after beating Van Dam with the chair like he did Rock and the Hardys back in the spring.

The next night, The Rock is granted his rematch against an injured Van Dam and wins the WCW Title in a giant schmozz, with Austin running in to make sure his Alliance-mate Van Dam doesn't win, and Jericho running in to make sure The Rock doesn't win. And, if you must turn Angle in this whole deal, have him come out to celebrate with Rock post-match ("Yay, WWF has all the titles again) and then lay him out in a big swerve. Reveal that since winning the title, Angle had felt disrespected being sent down the card despite being the WWF Champ because Rock was a big drama queen and that apparently the WCW Title means more than the WWF title, and if that's the case, I'm playing with those guys.

Now everything's reset for Survivor Series, Austin can get his win back over RVD in the leadup, and you wind up with Austin/Angle vs Rock/Jericho at the end of the Survivor Series match. You can do everything just as it went, only now without the title, Austin's out of a job - but you can find some loophole to bring him back with Flair coming in.

  49. I would "of" enjoyed that match if they gave it time. I think they would "of" put on a good show!
